Objective: To investigate the effect of mesioangular impaction of the mandibular third molars on distal caries and distal bone loss (DBL) in the adjacent mandibular second molars to provide a basis for prophylactic impacted third molar extraction. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed panoramic radiographs of 736 patients with mesioangularly impacted mandibular third molars at the Department of Stomatology, Shanghai Fifth People’s Hospital. The chi-square test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, and logistic regression were performed to analyze the relationship of patient age, sex, mesial inclination angle, distal caries, and DBL in the mandibular second molars. Results: Patient aged over 30 years and a mesial inclination angle > 30° were risk factors for distal caries in the mandibular second molars (p < 0.05). Patients aged over 20 years and a mesial inclination angle of 60°-90° were risk factors for DBL (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In patients with mesioangularly impacted mandibular third molars, age and the mesial inclination angle were positively correlated with the severity of distal caries and DBL in the adjacent mandibular second molars. These findings could guide dental practitioners to prevent complications of the adjacent molars during early prophylactic extraction of the mandibular third molars with mesioangular inclination.

By referring to the method of system reliability modeling in reliability engineering theory, the abstract problem of system operation failure of fresh supply chain is concretized. By constructing the operation sequence of each link in the system and the causal logic of event existence, the Bayesian network topology is constructed. The reliability model of the supply chain system is established to analyze the ability of the fresh supply chain from the production end to the consumption end of the supply chain system to operate smoothly. From the perspective of system reliability, the weak links of fresh supply chain are determined, which provides an effective model for accurately evaluating the system reliability of fresh supply chain.

When it comes to processing, purple pepper and purple corn are poorly utilised even though they are rich in anthocyanins and other nutrients. Therefore, studies focusing on their processing are vital for resolving their underutilisation. In the present work, purple pepper and corn were used to prepare a compound fruit wine. The fermentation process parameters were optimised using single factor tests and response surface design. The sensory characteristics of the compound fruit wine were used as an indicator. The antioxidant potential of the purple compound fruit wine was also assessed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH·) and hydroxyl radical (·OH) scavenging rates. A purple compound fruit wine with a sensory score of 94.2 and 8.6% alcohol by volume was obtained using a combination of 72.0% purple pepper juice and 28.0% purple corn juice (with an initial sugar content of 23.3%), followed by inoculation with 6.2% Saccharomyces cerevisiae and fermentation for 7.8 d at 23°C. The resulting purple compound fruit wine had a typical harmonious fruit aroma and a mellow taste. Furthermore, the content of anthocyanins in purple compound fruit wine was 1.38 ± 0.14 mg/mL, and the half inhibitory concentration (IC50) values against DPPH· and ·OH were 51.31 and 49.08 mg/mL, respectively. This optimised fermentation process could serve as a theoretical basis for the industrial utilisation of purple pepper and corn.

The processing residue of Pterocarpus erinaceus was used to obtain an ethanol-extract, whose anti-fungal properties and mode of action was investigated using multi-omics principles and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the decay resistance of the heartwood of Pterocarpus erinaceus was in Grade I; it showed strong decay resistance. The effective concentration of 70% ethanol extract of the heartwood of Pterocarpus erinaceus was 13.8%. It showed high inhibition against Coriolus versicolor and Gloeophyllum trabeum, and the content of the extract was positively correlated with the diameter of the inhibition zone. Transcriptomics analysis showed there were 93 genes differentially expressed in Gloeophyllum trabeum. Among them, 42 genes were up-regulated and 51 genes were down-regulated. These genes were mainly related to oxidoreductase activity, integral components of the membrane, carbohydrate metabolism, lipid metabolism, and other related Gloeophyllum trabeum life activities. In total, 31 substances were separated and observed using GC-MS, and their peak areas accounted for 91.8% of the total peak area. Of these, 16 substances including ketones, esters, amines, alkanes, olefins and aromatic compounds showed a relatively high content. Ketones accounted for the most abundance at 29.1%. These compounds may represent the main active components of antifungal and decay resistance.

Osteoporosis, an age-related metabolic bone disease, is mainly caused by an imbalance between osteoblast-mediated bone formation and osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. At present, there are many osteoporosis drugs that can promote bone formation or inhibit bone resorption. However, there were few therapeutic drugs that can simultaneously promote bone formation and inhibit bone resorption. Oridonin (ORI), a tetracyclic diterpenoid compound isolated from Rabdosia rubescens, has been proved to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor effects. However, little is known about the osteoprotective effect of oridonin. Thioacetamide (TAA) is a common organic compound with significant hepatotoxicity. Recent studies have found that there was a certain association between TAA and bone injury. In this work, we investigated the effect and mechanism of ORI on TAA-induced osteoclastogenesis and inhibition of osteoblast differentiation. The results showed that TAA could promote the osteoclastogenesis of RAW264.7 by promoting the MAPK/NF-κB pathway, and also promoted p65 nuclear translocation and activated intracellular ROS generation, and ORI can inhibit these effects to inhibit TAA-induced osteoclastogenesis. Moreover, ORI can also promote the osteogenic differentiation pathway and inhibit adipogenic differentiation of BMSCs to promote bone formation. In conclusion, our results revealed that ORI, as a potential therapeutic drug for osteoporosis, could protect against TAA-induced bone loss and TAA-inhibited bone formation.

This paper presents a framework for telepresence operation by touching live video on a touchscreen. Our goal is to enable users to use a smartpad to teleoperate everyday objects by touching the objects live video they are watching. To this end, we coined the term teleinteractive device to describe such an object with an identity, an actuator, and a communication network. We developed a touchable live video image-based user interface (TIUI) that empowers users to teleoperate any teleinteractive device by touching its live video with touchscreen gestures. The TIUI contains four modules touch, control, recognition, and knowledge to perform live video understanding, communication, and control for telepresence operation. We implemented a telepresence operation system that consists of a telepresence robot and teleinteractive devices at a local site, a smartpad with the TIUI at a remote site, and communication networks connecting the two sites. We demonstrated potential applications of the system in remotely controlling telepresence robots, opening doors with access control panels, and pushing power wheelchairs. We conducted user studies to show the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Exploiting two quasi-natural experiments, we find that firms increase emissions of toxic pollution following decreases in analyst coverage. The effects are stronger for firms with low initial analyst coverage, poor corporate governance, and firms subject to less stringent monitoring by environmental regulators. Decreases in environmental-related questions raised in conference calls, an increased cost of monitoring to institutional shareholders, reductions in pollution abatement investment, and the weakening of internal governance related to environmental performance are channels through which reduced analyst coverage contributes to increases in firm pollution. Our study highlights the monitoring role analysts play in shaping corporate environmental policies.

The search for wearable electronics has been attracted great efforts, and there is an ever-growing demand for all-solid-state flexible energy storage devices. However, it is a challenge to obtain both positive and negative electrodes with excellent mechanical strength and match positive and negative charges to achieve high energy densities and operate voltages to satisfy practical application requirements. Here, flexible MXene (Ti3C2Tx)/cellulose nanofiber (CNF) composite film negative electrodes (MCNF) were fabricated with a vacuum filtration method, as well as positive electrodes (CP) by combining polyaniline (PANI) with carbon cloth (CC) using an in-situ polymerization method. Both positive and negative free-standing electrodes exhibited excellent electrochemical behavior and bendable/foldable flexibility. As a result, the all-pseudocapacitance asymmetric device of MCNF//CP assembled with charge-matched between anode and cathode achieves an extended voltage window of 1.5 V, high energy density of 30.6 Wh·kg−1 (1211 W·kg−1), and 86% capacitance retention after 5000 cycles, and the device maintains excellent bendability, simultaneously. This work will pave the way for the development of all-pseudocapacitive asymmetric supercapacitors (ASC) with simultaneously preeminent mechanical properties, high energy density, and wide operating voltage window.

Pearl millet is an important cereal crop worldwide and shows superior heat tolerance. Here, we developed a graph-based pan-genome by assembling ten chromosomal genomes with one existing assembly adapted to different climates worldwide and captured 424,085 genomic structural variations (SVs). Comparative genomics and transcriptomics analyses revealed the expansion of the RWP-RK transcription factor family and the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-related genes in heat tolerance. The overexpression of one RWP-RK gene led to enhanced plant heat tolerance and transactivated ER-related genes quickly, supporting the important roles of RWP-RK transcription factors and ER system in heat tolerance. Furthermore, we found that some SVs affected the gene expression associated with heat tolerance and SVs surrounding ER-related genes shaped adaptation to heat tolerance during domestication in the population. Our study provides a comprehensive genomic resource revealing insights into heat tolerance and laying a foundation for generating more robust crops under the changing climate.

Syzygium albumis a critically endangered species, and the wood basic properties haven’t been reported. Therefore, this paper analyzes the wood from the anatomical characteristics, physical properties, and secondary components.The results showed thatobserved S. albumwood of a 46-year-old tree is diffuse-porous to semi-diffuse-porous wood. The maximum vessel tangential diameter is 127.47μm, which is found at the beginning of the earlywood. Thewood rays are heteromorphic type I and II, and the multi-column part is mostly 3 cells wide. In physical properties, the air-dry density is classified as "heavy", whereas its air-dry and full-dry differential dry shrinkage are "small" and "medium", respectively. This indicates that the wood performs better when dried. The content of benzene-ethanol extract from S. albumwood is 2.10%. The benzene-ethanol extracts were analyzed by GC-MS, and the main components are 2,6,11,15-tetramethylhexadecane (3.29%), eicosamethyl cyclodecasiloxane (10.02%), octadecamethyl cyclononasiloxane (7.43%), and tetracosamethyl cyclododeca-siloxane (3.60%), etc.

Glutinous rice tea wine is an alcoholic beverage with antioxidant function which has good market value. However, it is prone to turbidity and precipitation during storage. To improve the unstable quality of glutinous rice tea wine, pectinase is used to clarify it. Based on single factor test and response surface test, the optimal clarification process parameters of pectinase, including pectinase addition, enzymolysis temperature, and enzymolysis time were optimised. Then, the antioxidant activity of glutinous rice tea wine was determined. Results showed that the effect of three clarification treatments on the clarification of glutinous rice tea wine was in the order of pectinase addition > enzymolysis temperature > enzymolysis time, and the optimal clarification conditions were: pectinase addition was 0.4 mL/L, enzymolysis temperature was 40.3°C, and enzymolysis time was 120.2 min. Under the optimal condition, the transmittance of glutinous rice tea wine was 92.3%, while the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of glutinous rice tea wine on the scavenging rates of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH·), hydroxyl radical (·OH), and superoxide anion radical (O2-·) were 53.64, 41.18, and 66.56 mg/mL (ethanol content), respectively. Therefore, glutinous rice tea wine had certain antioxidant capacity and health promotion effect which provided a theoretical basis for improving the added value of medium- and low-grade teas.
