Chronic nausea is a widespread functional disease in children with numerous comorbidities. High-resolution electrogastrogram (HR-EGG) has shown sufficient sensitivity as a noninvasive clinical marker to objectively detect distinct gastric slow wave properties in children with functional nausea. We hypothesized that the increased precision of magnetogastrogram (MGG) slow wave recordings could provide supplementary information not evident on HR-EGG. We evaluated simultaneous pre- and postprandial MGG and HR-EGG recordings in pediatric patients with chronic nausea and healthy asymptomatic subjects, while also measuring nausea intensity and nausea severity. We found significant reductions in postprandial dominant frequency and normogastric power, and higher levels of postprandial bradygastric power in patients with nausea in both MGG and HR-EGG. MGG also detected significantly lower preprandial normogastric power in patients. A significant difference in the mean preprandial gastric slow wave propagation direction was observed in patients as compared with controls in both MGG (control: 180 ± 61°, patient: 34 ±72°

Melitaea klili Benyamini, 2021 was recently described from Israel as a species closely related to M. telona Fruhstorfer, 1908, but different in phenology, ecological preferences and with an allopatric distribution. Here, based on comparative examinations of mitochondrial DNA-barcodes, male genitalia and larval behaviour under laboratory conditions, we synonymize M. klili with M. telona. The COI barcodes of M. klili were found to be identical to those of M. telona. Analysis of 658 bp fragment of the mitochondrial gene COI demonstrated that the minimum uncorrected p-distance between M. ornata and M. telona was 1.98%. This value is remarkably less than the 3% threshold traditionally accepted as a species boundary in DNA barcoding studies. The morphological differences between these taxa are minimal. In fact, M. ornata and M. telona represent two phylogenetic lineages, the taxonomic status of which (separate species or subspecies of the same species) is intermediate and debatable.

Liquid-liquid phase separation is a phenomenon within biology whereby proteins can separate into dense and more dilute phases with distinct properties. Three antibodies that undergo liquid-liquid phase separation were characterized in the protein-rich and protein-poor phases. In comparison to the protein-poor phase, the protein-rich phase demonstrates more blue-shift tryptophan emissions and red-shifted amide I absorbances. Large changes involving conformational isomerization around disulfide bonds were observed using Raman spectroscopy. Amide I and protein fluorescence differences between the phases persisted to temperatures above the critical temperature but ceased at the temperature at which aggregation occurred. In addition, large changes occurred in the structural organization of water molecules within the protein-rich phase for all three antibodies. It is hypothesized that as the proteins have the same chemical potential in both phases, the protein viscosity is higher in the protein-rich phase resulting in slowed diffusion dependent protein aggregation in this phase. For all three antibodies we performed accelerated stability studies and found that the protein-rich phase aggregated at the same rate or slower than the protein-poor phase.

Two taxa described by Turati in 1920 as subspecies of Melitaea phoebe ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), are examined from high resolution photographs. M. phoebe phoebina Turati, 1920 is identified from morphological features as M. ornata Christoph, 1893, and M. phoebe rostagnoi Turati, 1920, is confirmed as M. phoebe. The quadrinomial M. phoebe rostagnoi sterlineata Turati, 1920 from the same locality as subsp. rostagnoi is also confirmed as M. phoebe.

The fitness app Strava incorporates the utility of a fitness tracker with the connection of social media. Since 2009, Strava has attracted over 100 million users, yet little research has assessed the implications of its use. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceived psychosocial implications of Strava use among collegiate club runners. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 runners from collegiate running clubs across the United States who were Strava users. Results indicated that runners perceived the psychosocial implications of Strava use to fall into three main themes: 1) self-presentation, 2) social pressure, and 3) motivation. The findings of this study support the utility of Strava to connect collegiate club runners and support their motivation to run while also suggesting some potential concerns related to social pressure and self-presentation that could influence mental or physical health.

This study aimed to enhance hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) screening to achieve earlier diagnosis of patients with hepatitis C (HCV) cirrhosis in our Safety-Net population.Adherence to HCC screening guidelines at Safety-Net hospitals is poor. Only 23% of patients with HCC at our health system had a screening exam within 1-year of diagnosis and 46% presented with stage IV disease. HCV-induced cirrhosis remains the most common etiology of HCC (75%) in our patients.In the setting of an established HCV treatment clinic, an HCC screening quality improvement initiative was initiated for patients with stage 3 fibrosis or cirrhosis by transient elastography. The program consisted of semiannual imaging. Navigators scheduled imaging appointments and tracked compliance.From April 2018 to April 2021, 318 patients were enrolled (mean age 61 years, 81% Black race, 38% uninsured). Adherence to screening was higher than previously reported: 94%, 75%, and 74% of patients completed their first, second, and third imaging tests. Twenty-two patients (7%) were diagnosed with HCC; 55% stage I and 14% stage IV. All patients were referred and 13 (59%) received treatment. Median time to receipt of treatment was 77 days (range, 32-282). Median overall survival for treated patients was 32 months.Implementation of an HCC screening program at a safety-net hospital is feasible and facilitated earlier diagnosis in this study. Patient navigation and tracking completion of imaging tests were key components of the program's success. Next steps include expanding the program to additional at-risk populations.

Do students respond to sticker prices or actual prices when applying to college? These costs differ for students eligible for financial aid. Students who do not understand this may not apply to some colleges because of the perceived high cost. We test for this form of “sticker shock” using College Board data on SAT scores sent, as a proxy for applications, to leading public institutions for students entering college in 2006–13. Some of these institutions guarantee financial aid will meet full financial need. Sticker price increases at those schools would not affect the actual cost after factoring in financial aid and should not affect decisions for those eligible for aid. We exploit the large and variable increases in sticker prices during the Great Recession of 2008. We also control for local labor market conditions to abstract from the recession's impact on individual educational decisions. We find evidence of sticker shock—students unaffected by virtue of institutional aid policies still apply less often. Using data from the National Student Clearinghouse, we also find that price increases at public flagship institutions reduce enrollment of high-achieving students, regardless of financial aid status, who often choose private colleges instead.

This paper discusses three problems concerning the Woodland Grayling, Hipparchia fagi Scopoli, 1763, with respect to the identity and application of the junior name Papilio hermione Linnaeus, 1764. In 1977, the late Otakar Kudrna designated a specimen of the Rock Grayling, Hipparchia alcyone [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, to become the lectotype of Papilio hermione – as a result of which hermione supplanted alcyone as the senior epithet for this species. Because P. hermione is the nominal type species of Hipparchia Fabricius, 1807, Kudrna’s action rendered this a genus based on a misidentified species. Third, while a majority of lepidopterists have ignored Kudrna’s action and continue to apply the name H. alcyone to the Rock Grayling, and still regard P. hermione as a junior subjective synonym of H. fagi, the formal nomenclature for the Rock Grayling has become unstable because a large minority have nonetheless accepted Kudrna’s lectotype designation and all that follows from it. It is demonstrated here that no syntypes of Papilio hermione (or Papilio fagi) have survived; consequently, Kudrna’s lectotype designation for P. hermione is invalid. By designation of a single specimen of the Woodland Grayling as neotype for both P. fagi and P. hermione, the two names are rendered objectively synonymous, thereby restoring stability to the species name for the Rock Grayling (as Hipparchia alcyone), and to the application of Papilio hermione (= Hipparchia fagi) as nominal type species of the generic name Hipparchia.

Grey-faced Petrels (Pterodroma gouldi) are colonial burrowing seabirds predominantly nesting on offshore islands of the upper North Island of New Zealand. We studied their chick provisioning on Te Hāwere-a-Maki during two years of unfavourable warmer La Niña conditions in 2011 and 2013. We intensively monitored chicks in each year, weighing chicks every 12 h for 10 consecutive days to estimate meal sizes following chick provisioning and to estimate 12-hourly body mass loss as a function of time since last feeding. We found a quadratic relationship of body mass loss with time since last feeding, with rapid digestion of meals following provisioning followed by a period of fasting from five days post feeding as chicks waited an unknown and variable amount of time until their next meal. The rate of body mass loss did not depend on chick age nor body mass, and did not differ between years, but heavier chicks included in our study were more likely to successfully fledge, suggesting a legacy of adult provisioning prior to our study commencing. Our regular handling of chicks for monitoring has no discernible impact on parent provisioning compared to a set of control chicks. The mean estimates of 100-gram meal sizes and 10-day foraging trip durations are likely to be below the break-even point for this species.

In October, 1865, Paul Bogle and a few hundred Black residents of rural Jamaica rebelled against the vagaries of an overly zealous magistrate. They set the courthouse at Morant Bay on fire and killed over a dozen people, mostly white. In the savage government reprisals that followed, over 430 Black Jamaicans were executed. Here, I observe how biblical language played a central role in public discourse about the rebellion. I focus on the rebellion’s slogan: skin for skin. I trace the interpretive history of this phrase drawn from the book of Job, showing how it became associated with advocacy for Black rights. And I examine the social context of Bogle’s use of the phrase to call for a Black alliance that crossed ethnic, religious, and class lines. I thus further a critical trajectory that has recognized the importance of biblical language to race talk in the age of emancipation.

Genetic diversity can affect population viability and can be reduced by both acute and chronic mechanisms. Using the history of the establishment and management of two invasive rat species on Tetiaroa atoll, French Polynesia, we investigated the intensity and longevity of contrasting population bottleneck mechanisms on genetic diversity and bottleneck signal. Using microsatellite loci we show how both a chronic reduction over approximately 50 years of a Rattus exulans population caused by the arrival of its competitor R. rattus, and an acute reduction in a R. rattus population caused by a failed eradication approximately 10 years ago, caused similar magnitudes of genetic diversity loss. Furthermore, these strong bottleneck signals were in addition to the lasting signal from initial colonisation by each species many decades to centuries earlier, characterising a genetic paradox of biological invasion. These findings have implications for the study of population genetics of invasive species, and underscore how important historical context of population dynamics is when interpreting snapshots of genetic diversity.

Details are provided of hybridisation between Polyommatus icarus (Rottemburg, 1775) from East Sussex (UK) and P. celina (Austaut, 1879) from Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain) under laboratory conditions. Comments are also made on natural hybrids between Melitaea phoebe and M. ornata occurring in Slovenia.

BackgroundDiagnostic laparoscopy (DL) is a key component of staging for locally advanced gastric adenocarcinoma (GA). We hypothesized that utilization of DL varied between safety net (SNH) and affiliated tertiary referral centers (TRCs).MethodsPatients diagnosed with primary GA eligible for DL were identified from the US Safety Net Collaborative database (2012-2014). Clinicopathologic factors were analyzed for association with use of DL and findings on DL. Overall survival (OS) was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method.ResultsAmong 233 eligible patients, 69 (30%) received DL, of which 24 (35%) were positive for metastatic disease. Forty percent of eligible SNH patients underwent DL compared to 21.5% at TRCs. Lack of insurance was significantly associated with decreased use of DL (OR 0.48,p

Objective To evaluate clinical data regarding the use of amivantamab and mobocertinib for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 20 insertion mutation non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and assess their potential impact on the care of patients. Data Sources A comprehensive literature search of PubMed and Clinicaltrials.gov was conducted using the terms amivantamab, Rybrevant, JNJ-61186372, mobocertinib, Exkivity, TAK-788. Study Selection and Data Extraction Relevant English-language clinical trials were evaluated. Data Synthesis Amivantamab and mobocertinib were Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved based on phases 1 and 2 studies. Amivantamab demonstrated an overall response rate (ORR) of 40% and median progression-free survival (PFS) of 8.3 months. Patients commonly experienced rash (86%), paronychia (45%), and stomatitis (21%). Mobocertinib demonstrated an ORR of 28% and median PFS of 7.3 months in phase 1/2 study. Patients frequently experienced diarrhea (91%), rash (45%), and paronychia (38%). Cardiac monitoring is recommended with mobocertinib due to risk of QTc prolongation and cardiac failure. Relevance to Patient Care For NSCLC patients who possess an EGFR exon 20 insertion mutation, amivantamab and mobocertinib are indicated as second-line therapy. Ongoing studies are evaluating these therapies as first-line monotherapy and as part of combination regimens in multiple cancer types. Dosage forms, drug interactions, and patient comorbidities should be considered when deciding which of the 2 agents may be most appropriate. Conclusion Amivantamab and mobocertinib target an uncommon NSCLC mutation that has historically marked a poor prognosis because of innate resistance to previously approved EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Promising results from early phase trials supported accelerated FDA approval.

Atlantic salmon Salmo salar is a socio-economically important anadromous fish species that has suffered synchronous population declines around the North Atlantic over the last five decades. Reduced marine survival has been implicated as a key driver of the declines, yet the relative importance of different stressors causing mortality at sea is not well understood. This review presents a synopsis of the principal stressors impacting Atlantic salmon in estuarine and marine environments. It also applies a semi-quantitative 2-D classification system to assess the relative effects of these stressors on English salmon stocks and their likely development over the next decade. Climate change and predation were identified as the biggest threats at present and over the next decade. Poor water quality and bycatch were classified as relatively high impact stressors, but with a lower likelihood of becoming more prevalent in the future due to available mitigation measures. Other, less influential, stressors included tidal barrages, artificial light at night, impingement in power-station cooling waters and thermal discharges, pile-driving noise pollution, invasive non-native species, electromagnetic fields, salmon mariculture, and tidal lagoons. Salmon fisheries exploitation was not regarded as an important stressor currently because effective exploitation rate controls have been implemented to substantially reduce fishing pressure. Future research priorities include addressing knowledge gaps on expanding stressor impacts from climate change, predation, renewable energy developments, and artificial light at night. Local management actions directed towards improving freshwater and estuarine habitats to maximise ecosystem resilience to stressors and minimise their cumulative impacts are recommended.

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) containing mRNA can deliver genetic material to cells for use as vaccines or protein replacement therapies. We characterized the effect of solution pH on cationic LNPs containing green fluorescent protein (EGFP) mRNA and their transfection efficiency. We compared the structural and colloidal properties of mRNA LNPs with LNPs not containing mRNA and mRNA free in solution. We used a combination of biophysical technique to build a picture of the structure of the lipids and mRNA across pH and temperature in the form of an empirical phase diagram (EPD). A combination of Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate lipid phase behavior. The mRNA–LNPs transition from an inverse hexagonal phase at pH values below the pKa of the cationic lipid to a lamellar phase above the pKa. At higher temperatures the mRNA–LNPs also transitioned from an inverse hexagonal phase to a lamellar phase indicating the inverse hexagonal phase is more thermodynamically favorable. Based on circular dichroism, the mRNA within the LNP has more A form structure at pH values below the lipid pKa than above it. Optical density, zeta potential and dynamic light scattering measurements were used to probe the colloidal stability of the mRNA–LNPs. The particles were larger and more prone to aggregation below the pKa. A stability study was performed to relate the biophysical characteristics to the storage of the particles in solution at 4 and 25 °C. mRNA–LNPs had the highest transfection efficiency and stability at pH values below the pKa. However, there was a trade-off between the stability and aggregation propensity since at very low pH the particles were most prone to aggregation. We performed kinetic experiments to show that the time scale of the pH-dependent phase behavior is slow (6 hour transition) and the transition from lamellar to inverse hexagonal phases is irreversible. This suggests that the lamellar phase is less stable and kinetically trapped. Our findings deepen our structural understanding of mRNA–LNPs and will aid the development of related formulations.

As interest in using unsupervised deep learning models to analyze gene expression data has grown, an increasing number of methods have been developed to make these models more interpretable. These methods can be separated into two groups: post hoc analyses of black box models through feature attribution methods and approaches to build inherently interpretable models through biologically-constrained architectures. We argue that these approaches are not mutually exclusive, but can in fact be usefully combined. We propose PAUSE (https://github.com/suinleelab/PAUSE), an unsupervised pathway attribution method that identifies major sources of transcriptomic variation when combined with biologically-constrained neural network models.

To cure a patient's cancer is to eradicate invasive cells from the ecosystem of the body. However, the ecologic complexity of this challenge is not well understood. Here we show how results from eradications of invasive mammalian species from islands—one of the few contexts in which invasive species have been regularly cleared—inform new research directions for treating cancer. We first summarize the epidemiologic characteristics of island invader eradications and cancer treatments by analyzing recent datasets from the Database of Invasive Island Species Eradications and The Cancer Genome Atlas, detailing the superior successes of island eradication projects. Next, we compare how genetic and environmental factors impact success in each system. These comparisons illuminate a number of promising cancer research and treatment directions, such as heterogeneity engineering as motivated by gene drives and adaptive therapy; multiscale analyses of how population heterogeneity potentiates treatment resistance; and application of ecological data mining techniques to high-throughput cancer data. We anticipate that interdisciplinary comparisons between tumor progression and invasive species would inspire development of novel paradigms to cure cancer.

Purpose:The ability of natural killer (NK) cells to lyse allogeneic targets, without the need for explicit matching or priming, makes them an attractive platform for cell-based immunotherapy. Umbilical cord blood is a practical source for generating banks of such third-party NK cells for “off-the-shelf” cell therapy applications. NK cells are highly cytolytic, and their potent antitumor effects can be rapidly triggered by a lack of HLA expression on interacting target cells, as is the case for a majority of solid tumors, including neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a leading cause of pediatric cancer–related deaths and an ideal candidate for NK-cell therapy. However, the antitumor efficacy of NK cells is limited by immunosuppressive cytokines in the tumor microenvironment, such as TGFβ, which impair NK cell function and survival.Experimental Design:To overcome this, we genetically modified NK cells to express variant TGFβ receptors, which couple a mutant TGFβ dominant-negative receptor to NK-specific activating domains. We hypothesized that with these engineered receptors, inhibitory TGFβ signals are effectively converted to activating signals.Results:Modified NK cells exhibited higher cytotoxic activity against neuroblastoma in a TGFβ-rich environment in vitro and superior progression-free survival in vivo, as compared with their unmodified controls.Conclusions:Our results support the development of “off-the-shelf” gene-modified NK cells, that overcome TGFβ-mediated immune evasion, in patients with neuroblastoma and other TGFβ-secreting malignancies.

The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway is one of the most commonly misregulated signaling pathways in human cancers, but its impact on the tumor microenvironment has not been considered as deeply as its autonomous impact on tumor cells. In this study, we show that NF-κB is activated by the two most common PI3K mutations, PIK3CA E545K and H1047R. We found that markers of NF-κB are most strongly upregulated under conditions of growth factor deprivation. Gene expression analysis conducted on cells deprived of growth factors identified the repertoire of genes altered by oncogenic PI3K mutations following growth factor deprivation. This gene set most closely correlated with gene signatures from claudin-low and basal-like breast tumors, subtypes frequently exhibiting constitutive PI3K/Akt activity. An NF-κB–dependent subset of genes driven by oncogenic PI3K mutations was also identified that encoded primarily secreted proteins, suggesting a paracrine role for this gene set. Interestingly, while NF-κB activated by oncogenes such as Ras and EGF receptor leads to cell-autonomous effects, abrogating NF-κB in PI3K-transformed cells did not decrease proliferation or induce apoptosis. However, conditioned media from PI3K mutant-expressing cells led to increased STAT3 activation in recipient THP-1 monocytes or normal epithelial cells in a NF-κB and interleukin-6–dependent manner. Together, our findings describe a PI3K-driven, NF-κB–dependent transcriptional profile that may play a critical role in promoting a microenvironment amenable to tumor progression. As the global temperature rises in the coming decades,Aedes albopictusis expected to invade and establish in South East England, whereCulex pipiensis currently the most common native mosquito species. Biocontrol measures that use local cyclopoid copepods againstAe. albopictusmay be compromised if the copepods prefer alternateCx. pipiensprey. In this study, we assessed the predation efficiency ofMegacyclops viridiscopepods against FrenchAe. albopictuslarvae and larvae that hatched from egg rafts ofCx. pipienscollected in South East England. The experiments were conducted at 15°C and 25°C, which are representative of present and future summer temperatures in South East England.Ae. albopictuslarvae that survived the course of the experiment in the predator-absent controls were significantly smaller thanCx. pipienslarvae that survived in the absence of predation. The background mortality ofCx. pipienslarvae increased with the ten-degree increase in temperature, and the smaller size of survivingCx. pipienslarvae at 25°C, relative to survivors at 15°C, suggests that largerCx. pipienslarvae were more likely to die at the higher temperature setting. Across all experimental treatments, the ratio of copepod body length to mean prey length, based on larval lengths of survivors from the corresponding predator-absent controls, was a significant predictor of predation efficiency. Adding temperature setting to the predation efficiency model as a predictor did not improve model fit. Within the mixed prey treatments, the predation efficiency ofM. viridiswas 34.5 percentage points higher againstAe. albopictusprey than againstCx. pipiensprey. The higher predation efficiency thatM. viridisexhibited against invasiveAe. albopictusprey, likely due to the smaller size of these larvae, supports the future use ofM. viridisas a biocontrol agent in the UK.

Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has demonstrated efficacy in patients with melanoma, but many exhibit poor responses. Using single cell RNA sequencing of melanoma patient-derived circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and functional characterization using mouse melanoma models, we show that the KEAP1/NRF2 pathway modulates sensitivity to ICB, independently of tumorigenesis. The NRF2 negative regulator, KEAP1, shows intrinsic variation in expression, leading to tumor heterogeneity and subclonal resistance.

Grey-faced Petrels (Pterodroma gouldi) are a colonial burrowing seabird predominantly nesting on offshore islands of the upper North Island of New Zealand. We studied their annual breeding biology and the impact of Southern Oscillation Index climatic effects by measuring colony productivity and chick growth rates from 2011 to 2015 on Te Hāwere-a-Maki as unfavorable warmer La Niña conditions changed to favorable cooler El Niño conditions. Across all five years, annual chick hatching consistently occurred within a one-week period at the end of August but fledging variably occurred over a three-week period following Christmas. Because ship rats are pest controlled on Te Hāwere-a-Maki, we found only a slight reduction in breeding success with nearby predator-free islands. However, chick growth and fledging rates were significantly higher under El Niño conditions occurring towards the end of our study, rather than La Niña conditions at the start of our study. Our regular handling of chicks for monitoring had no discernible impact compared to a set of control chicks. The combined impacts of annual variation in predation and climate mean the Grey-faced Petrel colony on Te Hāwere-a-Maki maintains a constant population size of around 100 burrows.

Seabird breeding success is known to reflect oceanic conditions. Gray-faced petrels (Pterodroma gouldi) breeding on the east coast of Auckland, New Zealand, exhibit poor reproductive success and slow chick development compared to west coast conspecifics. This study mapped changes in physiological traits (corticosterone [CORT] and hematological parameters) indicative of sublethal stress in this Procellariiform species between the west coast (Ihumoana) and east coast (Hāwere) island colonies. We found adult gray-faced petrels on the east coast to be lighter and, unlike west coast birds, exhibited an attenuation of response CORT levels between incubation and chick-rearing phases. Such responses were also reflected in east coast chicks that were lighter and had higher feather CORT titers than west coast chicks. Measures of adult hematology and plasma biochemistry revealed significantly lower glucose levels in east coast birds and indicated that chick rearing is the most stressful phase of breeding for this species Combined; these results suggest that east coast birds are under greater nutritional stress and that parents appear to transfer the costs of poor foraging to their chicks to preserve their own condition, consequently increasing chick developmental stress. Our results suggest that any long-term decrease in ocean conditions and/or climatic shifts would be more acutely felt by east coast chicks and potentially their parents, resulting in years of poor breeding success rates on a local scale.

According to the ancient Stoics, living virtuously is all one needs for living well—for what the Roman Stoics called vita beata and the Greek Stoics eudaimonia, which today is usually rendered “happiness.” According to Cicero, the Stoics believe both that the exercise of virtue requires no special circumstances outside one’s control—virtue is self-sufficient—and that virtue is the only good, and that explains why they believe that virtue is sufficient for happiness. By contrast, the prevailing modern reconstruction is that the Stoics believe that virtue is sufficient for happiness, and that explains why they believe that virtue is the only good. Notice three differences between the modern reconstruction and Cicero’s—and, this chapter argues, the modern reconstruction’s three mistakes: the modern reconstruction reverses the order of explanation between the thesis that virtue is sufficient for happiness and the thesis that virtue is the only good; it ignores the thesis that virtue is self-sufficient; and it offers no rationale for the Stoics’ belief that virtue is sufficient for happiness. Recognizing these three mistakes is important for understanding Stoic ethics, and why the Stoic argument was—and remains—one to be reckoned with.
