Computing independent variable sets for polynomial ideals plays an important role in solving high-dimensional polynomial equations. The computation of a Gröbner basis for an ideal, with respect to a block lexicographical order in classic methods, is huge, and then an improved algorithm is given. Based on the quasi-Gröbner basis of the extended ideal, a criterion of assigning independent variables is gained. According to the criteria, a maximal independent variable set for a polynomial ideal can be computed by assigning indeterminates gradually. The key point of the algorithm is to reduce dimensions so that the unit of computation is one variable instead of a set, which turns a multivariate problem into a single-variable problem and turns the computation of rational function field into that of the fundamental number field. Hence, the computation complexity is reduced. The algorithm has been analysed by an example, and the results reveal that the algorithm is correct and effective.

In response to overstimulation of growth factor signaling, tumor cells can reprogram their metabolism to preferentially utilize and metabolize glucose to lactate even in the presence of abundant oxygen, which is termed the “Warburg effect” or aerobic glycolysis. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a group of transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides and do not encode proteins. Accumulating evidence suggests that lncRNAs can affect aerobic glycolysis through multiple mechanisms, including the regulation of glycolytic transporters and key rate-limiting enzymes. In addition, maladjusted signaling pathways are critical for glycolysis. Therefore, this article mainly reviews the lncRNAs involved in the regulation of tumor glycolysis key signal pathways in recent years and provides an in-depth understanding of the role of differentially expressed lncRNAs in the key signal pathways of glucose metabolism, which may help to provide new therapeutic targets and new diagnostic and prognostic markers for human cancer.

The carcinogenesis of colorectal cancer (CRC) involves many different molecules and multiple pathways, and the specific mechanism has not been elucidated until now. Existing studies on the proteomic signature profiles of CRC are relatively limited. Therefore, we herein aimed to provide a more comprehensive proteomic signature profile and discover new prognostic markers and therapeutic targets by performing proteomic analysis of CRC and paired normal tissues.To investigate the proteomic signature and identify novel protein prognostic biomarkers of CRC.Cancer tissues and paired normal tissues were collected from 48 patients who underwent surgical removal at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital from January 2020 to June 2021. Data independent acquisition (DIA) quantitative proteomic analysis was performed using high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (nano-UHPLC-MS/MS) to identify differentially expressed proteins, among which those with aSignificantly differential protein expression was observed between cancer tissues and normal tissues. Compared with normal tissues, 1115 proteins were upregulated and 705 proteins were downregulated in CRC based onOur study provides a comprehensive proteomic signature of CRC and highlights CDKN2A as a potential powerful prognostic marker and precision therapeutic target.

The optimization of a transmission type bremsstrahlung conversion target was carried out with Monte Carlo code FLUKA for intense pulsed electron beams with electron energy of several hundred keV for maximum photon fluence. The photon emission intensity from electrons with energy ranging from 300 keV to 1 MeV on tungsten, tantalum and molybdenum targets was calculated with varied target thicknesses. The research revealed that higher target material element number and electron energy leads to increased photon fluence. For a certain target material, the target thickness with maximum photon emission fluence exhibits a linear relationship with the electron energy. With certain electron energy and target material, the thickness of the target plays a dominant role in increasing the transmission photon intensity, with small target thickness the photon flux is largely restricted by low energy loss of electrons for photon generation while thick targets may impose extra absorption for the generated photons. The spatial distribution of bremsstrahlung photon density was analyzed and the optimal target thicknesses for maximum bremsstrahlung photon fluence were derived versus electron energy on three target materials for a quick determination of optimal target design.

The ever-increasing heavy traffic congestion potentially impedes the accessibility of emergency vehicles (EVs), resulting in detrimental impacts on critical services and even safety of people's lives. Hence, it is significant to propose an efficient scheduling approach to help EVs arrive faster. Existing vehicle-centric scheduling approaches aim to recommend the optimal paths for EVs based on the current traffic status while the road-centric scheduling approaches aim to improve the traffic condition and assign a higher priority for EVs to pass an intersection. With the intuition that real-time vehicle-road information interaction and strategy coordination can bring more benefits, we propose LEVID, a LEarning-based cooperative VehIcle-roaD scheduling approach including a real-time route planning module and a collaborative traffic signal control module, which interact with each other and make decisions iteratively. The real-time route planning module adapts the artificial potential field method to address the real-time changes of traffic signals and avoid falling into a local optimum. The collaborative traffic signal control module leverages a graph attention reinforcement learning framework to extract the latent features of different intersections and abstract their interplay to learn cooperative policies. As a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis (UC) imposes a significant burden on public healthcare worldwide due to its increasing morbidity. Chinese medicines are regarded as potent therapeutic agents for UC treatment with minimal side effects. In the present study, we sought to determine the novel role of a traditional medicine Qingre Xingyu (QRXY) recipe in the development of UC and aimed to contribute to the currently available knowledge about UC by exploring the downstream mechanism of QRXY recipe in UC. Mouse models of UC were established by injections with dextran sulphate sodium (DSS), where the expression of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) was determined followed by an analysis of their interactions. The DSS-treated NLRP3 knockout (−/−) Caco-2 cell model was successfully constructed. The in vitro and in vivo effects of the QRXY recipe on UC were investigated with the determination of disease activity index (DAI), histopathological scores, transepithelial electrical resistance, FITC-dextran, as well as cell proliferation and apoptosis. In vivo and in vitro experiments indicated that the QRXY recipe reduced the degree of intestinal mucosal injury of UC mice and functional damage of DSS-induced Caco-2 cells by inhibition of the TNFα/NLRP3/caspase-1/IL-1β pathway and M1 polarization of macrophages, and TNFα overexpression or NLRP3 knockdown could counterweigh the therapeutic effects of QRXY recipe. To conclude, our study elicited that QRXY inhibited the expression of TNFα and inactivated the NLRP3/Caspase-1/IL-1β pathway, thereby alleviating intestinal mucosal injury and relieving UC in mice.

Background Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is potentially life-threatening, and accurate diagnosis is crucial. The first-line diagnostic test, the adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test, measures serum total cortisol. However, this is affected in states of altered albumin or cortisol-binding globulin levels, limiting reliability. Salivary cortisol reflects free bioactive cortisol levels and is a promising alternative. However, few studies are available, and heterogenous methodologies limit applicability. Methods This study prospectively recruited 42 outpatients undergoing evaluation for AI, excluding participants with altered cortisol-binding states. Serum (immunoassay) and salivary (liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry) cortisol levels were sampled at baseline, 30 min, and 60 min following 250 µg synacthen administration. AI was defined as a peak serum cortisol level Results The study recruited 21 (50%) participants with AI and 21 without AI. There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics, blood pressure, or sodium levels between groups. Following synacthen stimulation, serum and salivary cortisol levels showed good correlation at all timepoints (R2 = 0.74, P < 0.001), at peak levels (R2 = 0.72, P < 0.001), and at 60 min (R2 = 0.72, P < 0.001). A salivary cortisol cut-off of 16.0 nmol/L had a sensitivity of 90.5% and a specificity of 76.2% for the diagnosis of AI. Conclusion This study demonstrates a good correlation between serum and salivary cortisol levels during the 250 µg synacthen test. A peak salivary cortisol cut-off of 16.0 nmol/L can be used for the diagnosis of AI. It is a less invasive alternative to evaluate patients with suspected AI. Its potential utility in the diagnosis of AI in patients with altered cortisol-binding states should be further studied.

In order to deal with the uncertainties caused by different operation conditions and unknown actuator failures of high-speed trains, an adaptive failures compensation control scheme is designed based on the piecewise model. A piecewise constant model is introduced to describe the variable system parameters caused by the variable operation environments, and a multiple-particle piecewise model of high-speed trains, with unknown actuator failures is then established. An adaptive failure compensation controller is developed for the multiple-particle piecewise constant model, by using a direct model reference adaptive control method. Such an adaptive controller can not only compensate the uncertainties from unknown actuator failures, but also effectively deal with the uncertainties caused by different operating conditions. Finally, a CRH380A type high-speed train model is taken as the controlled object for the simulation study. The simulation results show that the proposed controller ensures the desired system performance in the presence of unknown actuator failures and uncertain operation conditions.

China’s industrial process-related Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are growing rapidly and are already equivalent to 13–19% of energy-related emissions in the past three decades. Previous studies mainly focused on emissions from fossil fuel combustion, however, there are a broad range of misconceptions regarding the trend and source of process-related emissions. To effectively implement emission reduction policies, it is necessary to compile an accurate accounting of process-related GHG emissions. However, the incompleteness in scope, unsuitable emission factor, and delay in updates in the current emission inventory have led to inaccurate emission estimates and inefficient mitigation actions. Following the methodology provided by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), we constructed a time series inventory of process-related GHG emissions for 15 industrial products from 1990–2020 in China. This emission inventory covers more than 90% of China’s process-related GHG emissions. In our study, emission factors were adjusted to refer to the industrial production process, technology, and raw material structure in China, which has led to increased accuracy of emission accounting. The dataset can help identify the sources of process-related GHG emissions in China and provide a data base for further policy implications.

The Huayuan orefield in the SW Yangtze Block (SW China) is a world-class Pb-Zn orefield, with over 20 million tonnes (Mt) metal reserve. However, the Pb-Zn ore fluid source and evolution in Huayuan remain controversial. This study determined the major and trace element compositions of the newly-identified apatite from the Pb-Zn ores, using electron microprobe analysis (EMPA) and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). The apatite samples are of hydrothermal origin, and have high CaO (52.57–57.15 wt%), P2O5 (39.26–42.88 wt%) and F (1.82–3.90 wt%) but low Cl (< 0.42 wt%) contents. The samples have total rare Earth element content (ΣREE) of 74.07–1,255.34 ppm, and they all show negative Eu and weakly positive Ce anomalies. The result suggests that the apatite was formed in an environment with decreasing oxygen fugacity, and in relatively F-rich, Cl-poor, and REE-poor ore-forming fluid. We geochemically compared the apatite from Huayuan with those from different geneses by Fisher discriminant. The result suggests that the Huayuan apatite is distinct from typical magmatic and purely hydrothermal apatite, and that the ore-forming fluids may have had multiple sources. The mixing of fluids with different origins may have triggered significant metal ore deposition.

Background Thoracentesis and tube thoracostomy are common procedures with bleeding risks, but existing guidelines may be overly conservative. We reviewed the evidence on the safety of thoracentesis and tube thoracostomy in patients with uncorrected coagulopathy. Research Question Is it safe to perform thoracentesis and tube thoracostomy in patients with uncorrected coagulopathy? Study Design and Methods This systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines. PubMed and Embase were searched from inception through December 31, 2019. Included studies involved patients with uncorrected coagulopathy because of disease (eg, thrombocytopenia, liver cirrhosis, kidney failure) or drugs (eg, antiplatelets, anticoagulants). Relevant outcomes were major bleeding and mortality. Results Eighteen studies (5,134 procedures) were included. Using random-effects meta-analysis, the pooled major bleeding and mortality rate was 0 (95% CI, 0%-1%). No publication bias was found. Excluding six studies that were in abstract form, meta-analysis of the remaining 12 full articles showed that the pooled major bleeding and mortality rate also was 0 (95% CI, 0%-2%). Subgroup analysis performed for patients with uncorrected coagulopathy resulting from disease or drugs showed similar results. Interpretation Among patients with uncorrected coagulopathy who underwent thoracentesis or tube thoracostomy, major bleeding and mortality complications were uncommon. Our results suggest that in appropriately selected patients, thoracentesis or tube thoracostomy can be performed safely. Diabetic corneal neuropathy (DCN) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). However, there are very limited therapeutic options. We investigated the effects of a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR)-α agonist, fenofibrate, on thirty patients (60 eyes) with type II DM. On in-vivo confocal microscopy evaluation, there was significant stimulation of corneal nerve regeneration and a reduction in nerve edema after 30 days of oral fenofibrate treatment, evidenced by the significant improvement in corneal nerve fiber density (CNFD) and corneal nerve fiber width, respectively. Corneal epithelial cells morphology also significantly improved in its cell circularity. Upon clinical examination, fenofibrate significantly improved patients’ neuropathic ocular surface status by increasing tear break-up time along with a reduction of corneal and conjunctival punctate keratopathy. Tear substance P (SP) concentrations significantly increased after treatment, suggesting an amelioration of ocular surface neuroinflammation. The changes in tear SP concentrations was also significantly associated with the improvement in CNFD. Quantitative proteomic analysis demonstrated that fenofibrate significantly upregulated and modulated the neurotrophin signalling pathway, linolenic acid, cholesterol and fat metabolism. Complement cascades, neutrophil reactions, and platelet activation were also significantly suppressed. Our results showed that fenofibrate could potentially be a novel treatment for patients with DCN.

Efficient representations for spatio-temporal cellular Signaling Data (SD) are essential for many human mobility applications. Traditional representation methods are mainly designed for GPS data with high spatio-temporal continuity, and thus will suffer from poor embedding performance due to the unique Ping Pong Effect in SD. To address this issue, we explore the opportunity offered by a large number of human mobility traces and mine the inherent neighboring tower connection patterns. More specifically, we design HERMAS, a novel representation learning framework for large-scale cellular SD with three steps: (1) extract rich context information in each trajectory, adding neighboring tower information as extra knowledge in each mobility observation; (2) design a sequence encoding model to aggregate the embedding of each observation; (3) obtain the embedding for a trajectory. We evaluate the performance of HERMAS based on two human mobility applications, i.e. trajectory similarity measurement and user profiling. We conduct evaluations based on a 30-day SD dataset with 130,612 users and 2,369,267 moving trajectories. Experimental results show that (1) for the trajectory similarity measurement application, HERMAS improves the Hitting Rate (HR@10) from 15.2% to 39.2%; (2) for the user profiling application, HERMAS improves the F1-score for around 9%. More importantly, HERMAS significantly improves the computation efficiency by over 30x.

Otolith microstructural features and morphological development of larval and juvenile fish are important for studying the early life history of fish. In this study, the analysis of otolith features was performed on Squalidus argentatus laboratory-reared larvae and juveniles (0 to 40 days post-hatching or dph) collected as eggs in the Laibin section of the Pearl River (South China) from April to August 2020. According to the otolith development analysis, there was a corresponding relationship between the development of otoliths and the ontogenesis of fish, in which the shape of otoliths had a greater change in the post-flexion larval stage corresponding to the formation period of each fin. Observations of the microstructural features suggested that lapilli were the most suitable otoliths for age determination and increment deposition rate validation among the three pairs of otoliths. The result of a regression analysis of the number of lapilli increments on age indicated that otolith growth increments were deposited daily and the first increment was deposited at 3 dph. Our results support the usage of otolith increment deposition rate when assessing hatching dates and daily growth for wild S. argentatus at 40 dph when environmental conditions are comparable to those described in this study.

The present study conducted a systematic review and Meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, and Web of Science were searched for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules in the treatment of chronic sinusitis. The quality of the included RCTs was assessed according to the Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment tool and the final included trials underwent Meta-analysis with RevMan 5.4.1. Fifty-four RCTs were included, with a total sample size of 7 278 cases. The results of Meta-analysis showed that the clinical efficacy of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules alone or in combination in the experimental group in the treatment of chronic sinusitis was superior to that in the control group with conventional western medicine, Chinese medicinal preparations, or surgery only(RR=1.19, 95%CI[1.15, 1.24], Plt;0.000 01). The combined use of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules on the basis of the control group was superior to the control group in improving the main symptoms and signs of chronic sinusitis [RR_(nasal congestion)=1.33, 95%CI[1.21, 1.45], Plt;0.000 01, RR_(runny nose)=1.28, 95%CI[1.18, 1.40], Plt;0.000 01, RR_(turbinate congestion or swelling)=1.28, 95%CI[1.16, 1.41], Plt;0.000 01]. Biyuan Tongqiao Granules alone or in combination could effectively reduce the Snot-20 score, which was superior to the control group(MD=-2.94, 95%CI[-3.60,-2.28], Plt;0.000 01). Biyuan Tongqiao Granules alone and in combination could effectively reduce the VAS score, which was superior to the control group(MD_(total score)=-4.44, 95%CI[-6.05,-2.82], Plt;0.000 01; MD_(nasal congestion VAS score)=-0.99, 95%CI[-1.38,-0.60], Plt;0.000 01; MD_(runny nose VAS score)=-1.19, 95%CI[-1.62,-0.76], Plt;0.000 01; MD_(dysosmia VAS score)=-0.96, 95%CI[-1.26,-0.65], Plt;0.000 01; MD_(head and face pain VAS score)=-0.73, 95%CI[-0.98,-0.47], Plt;0.000 01). The combined use of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules could effectively reduce the sinus CT score and the Lund-Mackey score of the endoscopic mucosal morphology(MD_(sinus CT score)=-3.68, 95%CI[-5.47,-1.88], Plt;0.000 1, MD_(endoscopic mucosal morphology score)=-3.06, 95%CI[-5.53,-0.59], P=0.02). Compared with the control group with conventional western medicine, Chinese medicinal preparations, or surgery only, combined use of Biyuan Tongqiao Granules did not increase the occurrence of adverse reactions(RR=0.68, 95%CI[0.26, 1.77], P=0.43). As demonstrated by the existing evidence, Biyuan Tongqiao Granules can improve the clinical efficacy of chronic sinusitis, relieve the clinical symptoms and signs, and reduce the Snot-20 score, VAS score, and Lund-Mackey score, without inducing serious adverse reactions, indicating that Biyuan Tongqiao Granules alone or in combination are more effective and safe in the treatment of chronic sinusitis than conventional western medicine, Chinese medicinal preparations, or surgical treatment. Since the quality of the included trials was generally low, large-scale, high-quality, rigorous, multi-center, and blinded-designed RCTs that meet international standards should be adopted in the future to increase the strength and level of evidence.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement (PBC) is commonly used in orthopaedic surgery. However, polymerization volumetric shrinkage, exothermic injury, and low bioactivity prevent PBC from being an ideal material. The developed expandable P(MMA-AA-St) well overcomes the volumetric shrinkage of PBC. However, its biomechanical properties are unsatisfactory. Herein, graphene oxide (GO), a hydrophilic material with favourable biomechanics and osteogenic capability, was added to P(MMA-AA-St) to optimize its biomechanics and bioactivity. The GO-modified self-expandable P(MMA-AA-St)-GO nanocomposite (PGBCs) exhibited outstanding compressive strength (70 ​MPa), water absorption, and volume expansion, as well as a longer handling time and a reduced setting temperature. The cytocompatibility of PGBCs was superior to that of PBC, as demonstrated by CCK-8 assay, live-dead cell staining, and flow cytometry. In addition, better osteoblast attachment was observed, which could be attributed to the effects of GO. Purpose: Due to multiple factors, children left behind in rural areas suffer from delayed neurodevelopment (suspected developmental delay, SDD). This study aimed to analyze the effect of caregivers’ depression on left-behind children’s SDD, with early stimulation and responsive care mediating. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in villages of five Chinese counties. A total of 904 left-behind children and their primary family caregivers were enrolled. Information on the children and their caregivers were collected through face-to-face interviews. The Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (ZSDS) was used to measure caregivers’ depressive symptoms. The Ages and Stages questionnaires, third edition (ASQ-3) was used to screen children for SDD, which contains five domains: communication (CM), gross motor (GM), fine motor (FM), problem-solving (CG), and personal social (PS). Results: Of left-behind children’s caregivers, 39.7% experienced varying symptoms of depression. The prevalence of total SDD among left-behind children under three years was 31.4%. Caregivers’ ZSDS scores were positively correlated with the FM, GM, CG, and PS of the left-behind children. Caregivers’ early stimulation & responsive care was positively correlated with the CM, FM, CG, and PS of the left-behind children. Conclusion: Left-behind children under three years in rural China were at high risk of SDD and their caregivers’ mental health was not good. Caregivers’ depressive symptoms may negatively affect the suspected developmental delay of left-behind children through caregivers providing less early stimulation and responsive care. A comprehensive intervention should be conducted to promote the health of left-behind children and their caregivers.

Finally, it is concluded that teachers’ management efficiency and motivation under sustainable innovation can promote students’ employment achievement and social responsibility cognition, improve the teaching quality of colleges and universities, and provide high-quality talents for the country. The educational concept of sustainable innovation is conducive to improving teachers’ independent innovation and realizing the educational function of cultivating students’ personalized development in colleges and universities.

When governments and healthcare providers offer people cash rewards for weight loss, an assumption is that cash rewards are versatile, working equally well for everyone – for example, for all genders. No research to date has tested for gender difference in response to financial incentives for weight loss. We show in an randomized controlled trial (RCT) (n = 472) that cash incentives for weight loss only worked for males. The RCT consisted of a 3-month, self-administered online weight loss program. Offering a US$150 incentive for a 5% weight loss more than tripled the proportion of males who were successful, compared with a no-incentive Control arm (20.9% vs. 5.9%). On average, males in the incentive arm lost 2.4% of weight over 3 months, compared with 0.9% in the Control arm. The same incentive had no such effect on females: The average weight loss in the incentive arm was not significantly different than in the Control (1.03% and 1.44%, respectively), nor was the proportion of participants meeting the 5% weight loss goal (8.6% and 8.7%, respectively). This study shows that males respond better than females to financial incentives for weight loss.

Objective: To demonstrate differences in cardiovascular structure and function between diabetic and non-diabetic older adults. To investigate associations between acyl-carnitines and cardiovascular function as indexed by imaging measurements. Methods: A community-based cohort of older adults without cardiovascular disease underwent current cardiovascular imaging and metabolomics acyl-carnitines profiling based on current and archived sera obtained fifteen years prior to examination. Results: A total of 933 participants (women 56%, n=521) with a mean age 63±13 years were studied. Old diabetics compared to old non-diabetics had lower myocardial relaxation (0.8±0.2 vs 0.9±0.3, p=0.0039); lower left atrial conduit strain (12±4.3 vs 14±4.1, p=0.045), lower left atrial conduit strain rate (-1.2±0.4 vs -1.3±0.5, p=0.042) and lower ratio of left atrial conduit strain to left atrial booster strain (0.5±0.2 vs 0.7±0.3, p=0.0029). Higher levels of archived short chain acyl-carnitine were associated with present-day impairments in myocardial relaxation (C5:1; OR 1.03, p=0.011), worse left atrial conduit strain function (C5:1; OR 1.03, p=0.037).
