ObjectivesWe developed and tested a deep learning (DL) framework applicable to color Doppler echocardiography for automatic detection and quantification of atrial septal defects (ASDs).BackgroundColor Doppler echocardiography is the most commonly used non-invasive imaging tool for detection of ASDs. While prior studies have used DL to detect the presence of ASDs from standard 2D echocardiographic views, no study has yet reported automatic interpretation of color Doppler videos for detection and quantification of ASD.MethodsA total of 821 examinations from two tertiary care hospitals were collected as the training and external testing dataset. We developed DL models to automatically process color Doppler echocardiograms, including view selection, ASD detection and identification of the endpoints of the atrial septum and of the defect to quantify the size of defect and the residual rim.ResultsThe view selection model achieved an average accuracy of 99% in identifying four standard views required for evaluating ASD. In the external testing dataset, the ASD detection model achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.92 with 88% sensitivity and 89% specificity. The final model automatically measured the size of defect and residual rim, with the mean biases of 1.9 mm and 2.2 mm, respectively.ConclusionWe demonstrated the feasibility of using a deep learning model for automated detection and quantification of ASD from color Doppler echocardiography. This model has the potential to improve the accuracy and efficiency of using color Doppler in clinical practice for screening and quantification of ASDs, that are required for clinical decision making.

Background Surgical resection is the only widely accepted curative method for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). However, little is known about the efficacy of laparoscopic liver resection for ICC, especially in patients with early-stage disease. The aim of this study was to compare the short-term and long-term effects of laparoscopy and open surgery for the treatment of ICC. Methods Data from 1,084 patients treated at three hospitals from January 2011 to December 2018 were selected and analyzed. Propensity score matching was performed to compare the long-term outcomes (overall survival and recurrence-free survival) and short-term outcomes (perioperative outcomes) of all-stage and early-stage patients. Results After matching, 244 patients (122 vs. 122) in the all-stage group and 65 patients (27 vs. 38) in the early-stage group were included. The baseline of the two groups was balanced, and no significant differences were found in sex or age. Microplastics (MPs) can adsorb toxic chemicals in biological or environmental matrixes and thus influence their behavior and availability. In order to investigate how the combined pollution of MPs and toxic organic chemical influence microbial growth and metabolism, Escherichia coli (E. coli) was grown in a complex, well-defined media and treated with polystyrene microplastics (PS MPs) and dichloro-diphenyl-tricgloroethane (DDT) at human relevant concentration levels. In vivo metabolites captured by a novel solid phase microextraction (SPME) probe, were used to reflect the metabolic dysregulation of E. coli under different pollution stresses. Results showed that the toxic effect of DDT displayed a distinct dose-dependent phenomenon while the existence of PS decreased the growth and metabolic interference effect of DDT on E. coli. Adsorption results revealed a mechanism that PS weakened the adverse impact of DDT by decreasing its free concentration in the treated culture media. Tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle related enzymes activities and antioxidant defense related substances of E. coli also proved the mechanism. The current study is believed to broaden our understanding of the ecotoxicity of MPs with toxic organic chemicals on microorganism.

The aroma fraction of fresh fruits is a key factor to evaluate quality and acceptance or resistance of customers. Due to the limited sensitivity of current analytical methods, many important aroma components are unidentified in most studies of fresh fruit. In this work, the aroma compounds in the fresh navel orange were studied by multidimensional gas chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry which can simultaneously achieve one-dimensional and comprehensive two-dimensional separation on only one instrument, with no need to change columns. As a result, a total of 97 volatile compounds were determined by comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography while only 44 compounds were identified by one-dimensional gas chromatography. The identified compounds, which account for 98.30% of the volatile chemicals present in the orange, include 10 aldehydes, 8 ketones, 22 alcohols, 12 esters, 11 hydrocarbons and 34 terpenes. D-limonene was shown to be the predominant compound in fresh navel oranges. The results show that comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography provided reliable and comprehensive information on the aroma compounds in fresh navel oranges.

Pulsed electric field (PEF) technology is a promising nonthermal processing techniques that can be utilized to inactivate microorganisms in liquid food with high-voltage PEF. Herein, a high-voltage solid-state switch consisting of 64 insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) connected in series was designed and developed for the PEF treatment. Regarding the unbalanced sharing of voltage in series-connected IGBTs, the resistor–capacitor–diode snubber circuit was specifically used and investigated in terms of model of parameters. Furthermore, using gate drivers and optic fiber, the driving circuit and protection circuit were designed and validated. A 50-kV isolation level power supply was built in order to provide 16 independent IGBT stacks with 24 V of power each. The results show that the developed switch works adequately a delay time of 380 ns with 35.8-kV voltage and 44.8-A current capacity. Moreover, the response time of the short-circuit protection is acceptable as well with a reaction time of under $7~\mu \text{s}$ . In conclusion, the switch designed for PEF treatment of liquid food performs within set parameters and is ready for pilot-scale processing capability.

In this article, an ambient mass spectrometric method with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-coated wooden tips was developed for sensitive analysis of trace macrolide antibiotics in complex food samples. A novel solid-phase microextraction (SPME) probe was prepared, via the modification of a layer MIP coating (with roxithromycin as template molecule) on the surface of wooden tips. The obtained MIP-coated wooden-tip SPME probe can be applied directly to enrich trace macrolide antibiotics from complex food samples, with enrichment factors of 244–1604, 72–370, and 12–82 folds for analysis of five investigated macrolide antibiotics in drinking water, honey, and milk samples, respectively. After extraction, a high voltage and some spray solvent were applied on the loaded SPME probe to desorb and ionize analytes enriched on the probe surface for electrospray ionization mass spectrometric (ESI-MS) analysis under ambient and open-air conditions. The method showed good linearity, with correlation coefficient values (r2) no less than 0.9904, and the calibration function was verified via Mandel's fitting test (p > 0.063). The limits of detection were in the range of 0.003–0.05, 1.1–5.1, and 1.9–15.8 ng/g for analysis of drinking water, honey, and milk samples, respectively. Recoveries of the five targeted macrolide antibiotics in honey and milk samples ranged from 73.4% to 98.1%, with the standard deviations no higher than 8.6%. As a result, MIP-coated wooden-tip ESI-MS method could be feasibly used as a sensitive method for determination of trace macrolide antibiotics in complex food samples.

This paper presents a 48V electrical system based on tail gas thermoelectric power generation, which mainly includes a thermoelectric power generation device, a 48V lithium battery pack, a 24V lead-acid battery, current and voltage type double DC/DC, etc. The energy flow of the traditional and new 48V electrical system under different states of ignition and cruising is analyzed. By comparing the fuel consumption rate and the SOC value of the 24V lead-acid battery, a logic-threshold based control strategy is designed to achieve the optimal energy control. The modeling and constraining conditions of the 48V electrical system for the vehicle have been completed, and the corresponding simulations have been performed using the ADVISOR software. The experimental results show that the maximum power of thermoelectric generation can reach 1500W, the average efficiency of thermoelectric generation is about 4.5%, and the corresponding fuel saving rate can reach 1.45%.

A new solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) PEO-LiTFSI-1%LGPS-10%SN is successfully prepared via a convenient method with low cost. The effect of SN on the ionic conductivity of PEO-based electrolyte is systematically investigated. It presents a maximum conductivity of 9.10 × 10 −5 S·cm −1 at 25 °C, and a 15-fold ion conductivity enhancement in PEO-LiTFSI. It exhibits wide electrochemical window (0–5.5 V) and excellent compatibility with metallic Li. The LiFePO 4 /Li batteries exhibit a good cycling and rate performance under 40 °C, whose maximum discharge specific capacity at 0.1 C is 160.6 mAh·g −1 , and 94.7% can be retained after 60 cycles. At 0.5C, the maximum discharge specific capacity is 138.4 mAh·g −1 , and capacity retention close to 90% even after 100 cycles. The reasons of activation process are discussed. This new SPE with outstanding electrochemical performance is a promising solid electrolyte candidate for applications in all-solid-state lithium battery.

Li10GeP2S12 (LGPS) is incorporated into polyethylene oxide (PEO) matrix to fabricate composite solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) membranes. The lithium ion conductivities of as-prepared composite membranes are evaluated, and the optimal composite membrane exhibits a maximum ionic conductivity of 1.21 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 80 °C and an electrochemical window of 0–5.7 V. The phase transition behaviors for electrolytes are characterized by DSC, and the possible reasons for their enhanced ionic conductivities are discussed. The LGPS microparticles, acting as active fillers incorporation into the PEO matrix, have a positive effect on the ionic conductivity, lithium ion transference number and electrochemical stabilities. In addition, two kinds of all-solid-state lithium batteries (LiFeO4/SPE/Li and LiCoO2/SPE/Li) are fabricated to demonstrate the good compatibility between this new SPE membrane and different electrodes. And the LiFePO4/Li battery exhibits fascinating electrochemical performance with high capacity retention (92.5% after 50 cycles at 60 °C) and attractive capacities of 158, 148, 138 and 99 mAh g−1 at current rates of 0.1 C, 0.2 C, 0.5 C and 1 C at 60 °C, respectively. It is demonstrated that this new composite SPE should be a promising electrolyte applied in solid state batteries based on lithium metal electrode.

A lignin-biochar with high acidic oxygen-containing groups was produced via a facile simultaneous oxidization and carbonization of pulping lignin by using sulfuric acid for the first time. The lignin-biochars were investigated by 13C NMR, FTIR and XPS, and results demonstrated that treatment by sulfuric acid could oxidize part of aromatic ring side chain to introduce high acidic oxygen-containing group, especially carboxyl group. Their total acidic oxygen-containing groups of lignin-biochar including COOH and Ar-OH reached 8.64 mmol/g. Adsorption experiments were carried and the maximum adsorption capacity of lignin-biochar for Pb2+ reached 679 mg/g, which was significantly higher than other lignin-based or carbon adsorbents. Moreover, it could maintain high removal rate at high adsorption capacity. It also demonstrated that adsorption capability was proportional to the accessible carboxyl groups.

Compounds extracted from essential oil of the Lavandula angustifolia by steam distillation were analysed by gas chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-QTOF/MS) and their anti-inflammatory activity were tested by a 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced inflammation method. The GC-QTOF/MS analysis identified 50 constituents, all representing 96.89% of the essential oil total composition. In particular, match factors, accurate mass and retention indexes were used to improve the accuracy of qualitative results. The main compounds identified were linalyl acetate (28.89%), linalool (24.30%), caryophyllene (7.89%), (E)-3,7-dimethylocta-1,3,6-triene (4.64%), 4-terpineol (4.04%), acetic acid lavandulyl ester (3.49%), borneol (2.60%) and eucalyptol (2.05%). Regarding anti-inflammatory activity, the essential oil was effective against the TPA-induced inflammation in mouse ear. The inhibition effect of essential oils (100 mg/kg) on TPA-induced mouse ear edema was about 58.66%. Meanwhile, the expression levels of transcription factor, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), inflammatory cytokine, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) were also decreased significantly. The results in this study show essential oil had a better anti-inflammatory activity than that of ibuprofen at the same dosage, which demonstrated a great potential value in application.

The present study was to investigate and identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the transcriptional regulatory network of osteosarcoma (OS). The gene expression dataset from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets was downloaded. DEGs were identified and their functional annotation was also conducted. In addition, differentially expressed transcription factors (TFs) and the regulatory genes were identified. The electronic validation was used to verify the expression of selected genes. The integrated analysis led to 932 DEGs. The results of functional annotation indicated that these DEGs significantly enriched in the p53 signaling pathway, Jak-STAT signaling pathway and Wnt signaling pathway. ZNF354C, NFIC, NFATC2, SP2, FOXO3, EGR1, ZEB1, RREB1, EGR2 and SRF were covered by most TFs. The expression levels of NFIC and EGR2 in electronic validation were compatible with our bio-informatics result. In conclusion, the deregulation of these genes may provide valuable information in understanding the underlying molecular mechanism in the OS.

Volatile components in Dalbergia cochinchinensis Pierre were analysed using a comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with mass spectrometry method featuring a new solid-state modulator. Compared to one-dimensional gas chromatography, the number of detected peaks were significantly increased. A total of 45 major compounds were identified in this study and the forward and reverse match factors of these compounds were both above 800. The results showed that the volatile components in Dalbergia cochinchinensis Pierre were primarily aldehyde and ketone compounds such as benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, 4-chromanone, 1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethanone and acetophenone. In addition, a semi-quantitative analysis was conducted to determine the contents of the detected compounds based on peak area percentage. Moreover, the repeatability of the comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis in this study was quite satisfactory with relative standard deviations less than 12.7% for intraday and 17.3% for interday measurements.

Effect of CaO2 on cow dung rapid bio-drying technology was researched. A static aerobic composting system was applied to this experiment which combining natural ventilation with Turing in the process of composting. The physical characteristics of cow dung was observed and the compost temperature, moisture content, organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, potassium content was determined which in order to study the effect of CaO2 on rapid drying of cattle in the compost. In the initial stage of compost, adding CaO2 groups compared with the control group, the temperature rise faster, 4-6 days in advance to the thermophilic phase; at the end of composting, the CaO2 composition and moisture content decreased significantly to below 30%. The addition of CaO2 in fertilizer was shorten the composting time, extend the thermophilic phase, to provide sufficient oxygen meeting the growth needs of aerobic microorganisms. It convinced that the rapid bio-drying of dairy manure has a good effect and provided a new idea for the effective treatment of cow dung.

Different kinds of applications are carried on EPON-based electric power EPON access network and recently most work is focus on ensuring QoS of important services when congestion happened. Combined those established architectures in public telecommunication networks with characteristics of electric power traffic, a smart-pipe architecture based technical solution and related service-identification algorithm are presented and studied in this paper. Simulation proves that it realizes the on-demand allocation of network resource and improves the intelligent level of the network.

In visual servo control system, the design of visual loop is a key link to precise tracking. To improve tracking accuracy, we discuss a FCMAC-based (fuzzy cerebellar model articulation controller) control strategy. The controller includes a basic proportional regulator and a FCMAC controller. The two blocks work together to approximate the visual-mapping model through an adaptive online learning law to adjust the weights of the network. By mapping the 2-D image characteristic space to the 3-D kinematic space, we can achieve the control task of a turntable directly through visual information. Applying the proposed method to a two-axis turntable to track a dynamic object, experimental result indicates that FCMAC is capable of accurately approximating visual-mapping model. The visual system shows a good performance in both accuracy and robustness.

The forward pulse-transfer function of the controlled system always contains at least one zero at infinity. Two formulas can be found which define the order of the unspecified polynomial in the design of ripple-free digital control systems. Some fundamental concepts are introduced in this paper, and a new method which has been widely applied to teaching and research is developed.
