It is not hard for people with a preexisting interest to learn more, but in order to fill the gap of missing professionals within the field it is necessary to reach a broader audience and make more people interested in cybersecurity. One element in achieving this, is to show that cybersecurity is not only a technical discipline. Privacy Universe is a platform built within the Haaukins training platform, which a focus on privacy, data protection, ethics and social media usage, targeting less technical students. It enables students to learn about cybersecurity and privacy with hands-on training in a closed and secure environment. This paper presents the platform as well as a survey of 50 students of which 80% who have replied that their learning outcome is 4 or 5 on a scale from 1-5, 5 being the highest. In addition to this, a majority also found that their interest within cybersecurity increased based on their experience with Privacy Universe. This indicates that Privacy Universe is a beneficial addition to the already existing platforms to make cybersecurity interesting for a broader audience, in a field where those competences are much needed. Vaccine hesitancy continues to be a main challenge for public health officials during the COVID-19 pandemic. As this hesitancy undermines vaccine campaigns, many researchers have sought to identify its root causes, finding that the increasing volume of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms is a key element of this problem. We explored Twitter as a source of misleading content with the goal of extracting overlapping cultural and political beliefs that motivate the spread of vaccine misinformation. To do this, we have collected a data set of vaccine-related Tweets and annotated them with the help of a team of annotators with a background in communications and journalism. Ultimately we hope this can lead to effective and targeted public health communication strategies for reaching individuals with anti-vaccine beliefs. Moreover, this information helps with developing Machine Learning models to automatically detect vaccine misinformation posts and combat their negative impacts. In this paper, we present Vax-Culture, a novel Twitter COVID-19 dataset consisting of 6373 vaccine-related tweets accompanied by an extensive set of human-provided annotations including vaccine-hesitancy stance, indication of any misinformation in tweets, the entities criticized and supported in each tweet and the communicated message of each tweet. Moreover, we define five baseline tasks including four classification and one sequence generation tasks, and report the results of a set of recent transformer-based models for them. BACKGROUND: Racial/ethnic minorities are less likely than non-Hispanic White (White) patients to be included in the Medicare Part D Star Ratings measure assessment due to the restrictive inclusion criteria for the measures. OBJECTIVE: This paper examined the effects of racial/ethnic disparities in the measure assessment in Part D Star Ratings on disparities in healthcare costs among patients with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed 2017 Medicare data. Proportions of Beneficiaries with ADRD were categorized into the included and excluded groups based on the inclusion criteria for the calculation of medication adherence measures in Star Ratings. Outcomes included costs for medications, physician visits, emergency room (ER) visits, and total costs. A generalized linear model was employed to compare costs across racial/ethnic groups. To explore the differential disparities in healthcare costs between the 2 groups, interaction terms between dummy variables for being excluded from the measure calculation and racial/ethnic minorities were included in the models. RESULTS: The patterns of racial/ethnic disparities in healthcare costs found in this study were generally consistent with expectations, with some exceptions. For example, compared with White patients, in the hyperlipidemia cohort, the physician visit cost for Black patients among the included group was 31% lower (cost ratio or CR = 0.69, 95% CI = 0.67–0.72); in the hypertension cohort, the hospitalization cost for Blacks among the excluded group was 15% higher (CR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.12–1.19). More importantly, exclusion from measurement assessments was associated with differential cost disparities. For example, compared with individuals included in the measure assessment for hypertension, the Black-White disparities in costs for hospitalization and total healthcare were 30% higher (CR = 1.30, 95% CI = 1.26–1.34), and 10% higher (CR = 1.10; 95% CI = 1.08–1.12), respectively, among the excluded group. CONCLUSIONS: Medicare Part D Star Ratings may be associated with aggravated racial/ethnic disparities in healthcare costs in the Medicare Part D population.

The investigation of leaf-level traits in response to varying environmental conditions has immense importance for understanding plant ecology. Remote sensing technology enables measurement of the reflectance of plants to make inferences about underlying traits along environmental gradients. While much focus has been placed on understanding how reflectance and traits are related at the leaf-level, the challenge of modelling the dependence of this relationship along environmental gradients has limited this line of inquiry. Here, we take up the problem of jointly modeling traits and reflectance given environment. Our objective is to assess not only response to environmental regressors but also dependence between trait levels and the reflectance spectrum in the context of this regression. This leads to joint modeling of a response vector of traits with reflectance arising as a functional response over the wavelength spectrum. To conduct this investigation, we employ a dataset from a global biodiversity hotspot, the Greater Cape Floristic Region in South Africa.

We recently shared our design of a two-semester flipped organic chemistry course, in which we gave students in-class quizzes to incentivize attendance and watching the lecture videos in advance. With a second iteration, we planned to make the video-watching experience more engaging. We accordingly hypothesized that if students completed short at-home quizzes while watching the videos, then attentiveness, engagement, and learning would increase. We tested this with a later section of the course, dividing the material into 13 units. For units 1-6, we gave in-class quizzes; for 7-13, quizzes were at home. Although units 1-6 and 7-13 covered different material, we were nonetheless surprised when students’ average quiz scores decreased for the take-home quizzes, because they did not have a time limit and were open-book, unlike the in-class quizzes. Anonymous survey feedback showed a strong preference for quizzes in class and indications that take-home quizzes demotivated attendance and pre-class watching of the videos. Thus, for analogous flipped course designs in chemistry, we recommend an in-class quizzing strategy over take-home quizzes to positively affect engagement, learning, and attendance. Of note, this course was synchronously delivered to two groups of students at geographically-distinct satellite locations.

In this analysis we identify dynamic hedge fund strategies quantitatively pursuing a Principal Component Analysis following Fung and Hsieh (1997). We extract five dominant hedge fund strategies each representing similar investment styles and analyse the performance of each strategy by employing a multi-factor model comprising both market indices and passive option strategies along the lines of Agerwal and Naik (2000). We find that the majority of the five homogenous strategies show superior performance. However, correcting for survivorship bias this superior performance disappears.

To date analyses of Danish mutual fund performance have been few and mainly pursued by mutual funds themselves or by the Association of Danish Mutual Funds (www.ifr.dk). The purpose of this paper is to provide the first independent performance analysis of Danish mutual funds, which includes 44 mutual funds that have been in operation since October 1994. In this analysis we focus on the Jensen measure of performance considering a single index model and a multi-index model, respectively. Furthermore, we analyse the timing ability of the Danish mutual funds pursuing both the quadratic regressions of Treynor & Mazuy(1966) and the option approach suggested by Henriksson & Merton (1981). Finally, we consider the influence of management fees and other mutual fund expenses on performance.

During recent years butterfly barbells have been used actively as investment strategies. Such barbells are constructed in order to obtain a yield pick-up and at the same time to be risk neutral against a change in the slope of the yield curve and/or a parallel shift in the yield curve. However, empirically the yield curve may change in an unanticipated way, which can have drastic consequences for the outcome of the strategy. This paper addresses some of the various risk factors characterizing butterfly barbells, and it is shown that a potential yield pick-up is not the result of an arbitrage possibility, but rather it reflects the actual shape of the yield curve. Furthermore, in a dynamic setting we show that the yield pick-up gives false information about the holding period returns, which the investor can expect to obtain.
