Service choreographies are commonly used as the means for enabling inter-organizational collaboration by providing a global view on the message exchange between involved participants. Choreographies are ideal for a number of application domains that are classified under the Collaborative, Dynamic & Complex (CDC) systems area. System users in these application domains require facilities to control the execution of a choreography instance such as suspending, resuming or terminating, and thus actively control its life cycle. We support this requirement by introducing the ChorSystem, a system capable of managing the complete life cycle of choreographies from choreography modeling, through deployment, to execution and monitoring. The performance evaluation of the life cycle operations shows that the ChorSystem introduces an acceptable performance overhead compared to purely script-based scenarios, while gaining the abilities to control the choreography life cycle.

A semantic decision table (SDT) is a decision table properly annotated with domain ontologies. In this paper, we focus on validation and verification issues (V&V) for SDT. We use Semantic Decision Rule Language (SDRule-L), which is an extension to the Object-Role Modeling language (ORM/ORM2) for modeling SDT commitments. With these commitments, business rule modelers can discover invalid decision rules. In this paper, we focus on how to use six SDRule-L constraints, which are directly brought from ORM/ORM2. Our approach focuses on detecting invalid rules within one table.

This paper presents a pattern-driven ontology modeling methodology, which is used to create topical ontologies in the human resource management (HRM) domain. An ontology topic is used to group concepts from different contexts (or even from different domain ontologies). We use the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) as the resource to create the topical ontologies in this paper. The methodology is implemented in a tool called PAD-ON suit. The paper approach is illustrated with a use case from elderly care homes in UK.

The inexpensive and global connectivity provided by the Internet has triggered a wave of interest in providing service-oriented electronic access to commercial activities. This pressure has led, in turn, to a need for accurate service description, so that we may advertise, locate, analyse and compare services. In this paper, we classify services by the context in which they are used. Next, we characterise both conventional and electronic services according to a range of domain independent attributes including price, payment method and availability. We examine possible representations for each of these service dimensions. By integrating these representations into a unified service description language, we hope to provide a means to lubricate the electronic services marketplace.
