Ever increasing technological progress opens novel opportunities concerning educational activities, and the ability to use the technology effectively is one of the 21st century’s most demanding skills. The Partnership Forum for 21st-Century Skills (P21) states that no organization can achieve satisfying results without using technology and therefore the use of technology particularly in schools should be at the highest level. Some novel teaching methods have recently emerged based on technological developments, such as STEM education, which is based on the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In this study, the motion of a body connected to a pulley system is analyzed by using an Arduino microprocessor and also related mathematical equations. Arduino is a programming platform on which various electronic elements can be connected. There are various Arduino compatible sensors (sound, light, distance, temperature, etc.) that can be coded for their intended use. Due to its cost effectiveness, this technological instrument can be used as a measurement tool in many physics experiments. In this work, the time-varying data of the position of the moving object is determined using the HC-SR04 ultrasonic distance sensor (see Fig. 1). The HC-SR04 distance sensor can determine the distance of the obstacle from the sensor when the transmitted signal is reflected from an obstacle and returned to the sensor, and the Arduino IDE computer program is used to load the corresponding codes into the Arduino and to retrieve the incoming data.

Background: The aim of this study was to provide insight into the real-life clinical presentation and outcomes of the elderly presenting with acute myocardial infarction from the Turkish Myocardial Infarction registry database. Methods: TURKMI was a nationwide, multicenter, observational, 15-day snapshot registry conducted to address the management of acute myocardial infarction patients admitted to percutaneous intervention-capable hospitals. The present analysis included the comparison of consecutively enrolled acute myocardial infarction patients aged >= 75 and = 75 years. Elderly patients were more likely to have hypertension and renal failure and less likely to have hypercholesterolemia. Elderly patients were admitted to hospitals almost 1 hour later mainly due to a late call to emergency medical service. At discharge, medical therapies were significantly less prescribed to the elderly. The proportion of patients undergoing coronary angiography was significantly lower in elderly (81.8% vs. 96.4%, P < .001). Both in-hospital and 1-year mortality were significantly higher in elderly patients (9.1% vs. 2.7% and 22.7% vs. 5.8%, P < .001 respectively). The adjusted risk of 1-year mortality was 4-fold in elderly (hazard ratio and 95% CI 4.0 [2.9-5.6], P < .001). In multivariate analysis, every 5-beat/min increase in heart rate increased mortality by 7%. Higher heart rate and use of antiplatelet agents on admission were predictors of mortality in elderly. Conclusion: In real-life settings, elderly patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction are prone to prolonged total ischemic time and are subjected to less-intensive medical treatment and interventional approaches. Besides age, the increased heart rate could be the major determinant of mortality.

Unprecedentedinnovations have been experienced since the second half of the twentiethcentury although there have not been fundamental changes in learningenvironments throughout the history. The reasons of these changes can begrouped mainly into two categories: 1) The development of new learning-teachingapproaches such as constructivism, active learning, lifelong learning, etc. 2)The fast incorporation of technology into education like in every part of ourlife. More developments in learning environments will not be surprising in thenear future.Thisstudy aims to present and analyze contemporary active learning classrooms(ALCs) which are technology incorporated, large enrolled, student-centered, andhighly interactive. For this aim, literature review has been carried out abouttechnology incorporated ALCs, which are being innovated continually anddesigned especially for STEM courses, and prominent contemporary classroomshave been compiled. Then, some ALCs such as SCALE-UP, TEAL, TILE and Next-GenALC v2.0 have been deeply analyzed in terms of their physical environment,pedagogical approach, teaching and learning processes, etc. Moreover,traditional classrooms and technology incorporated contemporary ALCs have beencompared. It is concluded that the use of these ALCs should be disseminated andinstructors should be prepared to guide and facilitate learning in theseclassrooms.

Klasik fiziğindeterminist yapısına karşılık kuantum teorisinin olasılıklı yapısı aslındaortaya çıktığı günden beri kuantum fiziğinin anlaşılmasını ve öğretilmesiniciddi şekilde zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada olasılık kavramının daha iyianlaşılabilmesi için öncelikle genel anlamda olasılık kavramının kökeni üzerinefelsefi bir tartışma yapılmıştır. Daha sonra klasik fizikten çok iyi bilinenserbest düşme olayı için parçacığın bulunma olasılıklarının konuma ve zamanabağlı ifadeleri hesaplanarak sonuçlar kuantum teorisinin olasılıklı yapısıylakarşılaştırılmıştır. Karşılaştırma sonsuz potansiyel kuyusu ile serbest düşmeiçin hesaplanan olasılık yoğunlukları üzerinden analoji kurularakgerçekleştirilmiştir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının düşünme stillerinin, ebeveynlerinin eğitim düzeylerine ve mesleklerine göre değişimini incelemektir. Bu kapsamda araştırmada nicel araştırma modellerinden ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Pamukkale Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Okul Öncesi Eğitim ABD’ da öğrenim gören 209 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada verilerin elde edilmesinde Sternberg ve Wagner (1992) tarafından geliştirilen ve Buluş (2006) tarafından geçerlilik ve güvenirliği yapılan düşünme stilleri ölçeği kullanılmıştır. 5 boyut ve 104 maddeden oluşan ölçeğin iç tutarlılık katsayısı 0.95’dir. Ölçekten elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 22 analiz programı kullanılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarının düşünme stillerinin çeşitli değişkenlere göre farklılaşmasını belirlemede Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Wallis H testleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına bakıldığında öğretmen adaylarının düşünme stillerinin alt boyutları ile anne-baba eğitim düzeyleri ve baba meslek değişkenleri arasında ilişki bulunamamıştır. Anne meslek durumu ile düşünme stillerinin dışsal ve yasamacı alt boyutları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunurken diğer alt boyutlarda anlamlı bir ilişki bulunamamıştır.

Aims. Permanent pacemaker requirement is a known complication after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of Edwards SAPIEN prosthesis implantation on atrioventricular conduction. Methods. The study included 28 patients who underwent TAVI due to severe aortic valve stenosis. An electrophysiological study was performed in the catheterization room immediately before the initial balloon valvuloplasty and immediately after Edwards SAPIEN prosthesis implantation. Results. Bu araştırma, ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencilerinin sınıf seviyesi, cinsiyet ve yaş gibi demografik özellikleri dikkate alınarak, bilime v e teknolojiye yönelik bakış açılarını belirlemeyi, okulları hakkındaki görüşlerini ve gelecek hakkındaki planlarında fen ve teknolojiye ne kadar yer verdiklerini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma Bozok Üniversitesi Mobilim projesi uygulamaları kapsamınd a gerçekleştirilen tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışma olup, Yozgat İli’nde bulunan ilköğretim okullarının ikinci kademesinde öğrenim gören 350 öğrencinin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Barmby, Kind, Jones ve Bush (2005) tarafından geliştirilmiş olan ölçek formunun öğrencilerin bilim ve teknolojiye ve öğrenim gördükleri okullarına bakış açılarını ve gelecekle ilgili planlarını belirlemeye yönelik kısımları kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, SPSS 17.0 istatistik p rogramı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Uygulanan ölçeğin güvenirlik çalışması bu araştırma kapsamında yapılmış ve güvenirliği örneklem için α=0.86 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin okulları hakkında olumlu tutuma sahip oldukları ve c insiyet değişkeninin ölçek genelindeki ortalama tutum puanlarında anlamlı bir farklılık oluşturmadığı belirlenmiştir (p>0.05). Yaş farklılığı öğrencilerin gelecek için planlarına yönelik tutumlarını anlamlı düzeyde etkilerken (p>0.05), This research aims, taking into account demographic characteristics such as grade levels, gender and age, to determine the secondary school students’ perspectives of science and technology, to examine their views on schools and how much they give place science and technology in plans about the future. The research, a descriptive survey study, was carried out under the Mobilim project implementation of Bozok University and conducted in ten secondary schools of Yozgat w ith the participation of 350 students. In the research as a data collection tool was used a questionnaire, developed by Barmby, Kind, Jones, and Bush (2005), parts on identifying the students’ perspectives about science and technology, their schools and th eir future plans. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0 statistical program. The reliability study of the scale was made under this research and reliability of the sample was calculated as α = 0.86. In the results of research, it was determined t hat the students had positive attitudes about school and the gender variable did not constitute significantly different in the average attitude scores (p> 0.05). Age differences significantly affected students' attitudes toward plans for the future (p>0.05)

A simple method of determining the relation between the sheet carrier concentration, ns, and the drift mobility, μ, of the two- dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in a Modulation Doped Field Effect Transistor (MODFET), is reported. The method is valid within the regime where the well-known charge control model is obeyed. The relation between μ and ns is found to be obeying the power law of μ α n0.7s at a temperature of 4.2 K for a 20nm thick spacer layered MODFET.

Belirsizlik ilkesi konusunun öğretimi için %44’ akran öğretimi, %26 grup ve sınıf tartışması, %26 grupla problem çözme etkinliği, %4 gösteri tekniği ile birlikte problem çözme ve problem oluşturma etkinliğinin yer aldığı ev ödevi çalışmalarını içeren hibrit yaklaşımla öğretim modeli geliştirilmiştir. Bu modelin akademik başarıya ve kalıcılığa etkisini belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada, “eşitlenmemiş kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu toplam 36 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri 5 sorudan oluşan “Belirsizlik İlkesi Klasik Sınavı (BİKS)” ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesi “Klasik Sınav Dereceleme Ölçeği (KSDÖ)” (r= 0,86) ile yapılmıştır. Deney grubu son test ortalaması x=51,33, kontrol grubu son test ortalaması x=23,16 olarak hesaplanmış ve puan ortalamaları arasındaki fark anlamlı bulunmuştur (p=,00). Deney grubunda uygulanan öğretimin etki ölçüsünün (Cohen’s d=2,48), kontrol grubunda uygulanan öğretimin etki ölçüsünden (Cohen’s d=1,85) daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Deney grubu gecikmiş test ortalaması x=40,72, kontrol grubu gecikmiş test ortalaması x=22,11 hesaplanmış ve puan ortalamaları arasındaki fark anlamlı bulunmuştur (p=,00)., A hybrid teaching model, which contains %44 peer tutoring, % 26 group and class discussion, % 26 problem solving within group, % 4 demonstration and finally some homework activities that contain problem construction and problem solving activities, is developed. The hybrid teaching model is employed in order to investigate its effects on students’ academic achievement and retention relating Uncertainty Principle of Quantum Physics. The study is administered by a quasi-experimental research design. Sample of the research consisted of 36 undergraduate students. Data of the research was collected by means of “Uncertainty Principle Classical Exam” which is made up of 5 questions. A Rating Scale of Classical Exam (r=0,86), developed by the researchers and is used for the analysis of the data. Post test mean value for the experimental group is 51,33 and post test mean value for the control group is found to be 23,16 so the difference between these two mean values is meaningful (p=,00). Also, size affects of experimental group (Cohen’s d= 2,48) higher than size affects of control group (Cohen’s d= 1,85). Retention test mean value of experimental group is 40,72 and retention test mean value of control group is 22,11 so the difference between these two mean values is meaningful (p=,00).

To evaluate the regional left atrial (LA) myocardial functions and time to peak deformations by the longitudinal strain (S) and strain rate (Sr) echocardiography in isolated mitral stenosis (MS) patients for 3 LA periods (contractile, reservoir, and conduit periods). Materials and methods: Included in the study were 30 MS patients and 30 healthy controls. Longitudinal peak S and Sr indices, time to peak S and time to peak Sr, and systolic and diastolic velocities were measured from the color Doppler myocardial imaging data, for each LA period. Results: For all 3 periods, all of the segment S values and most of the segment Sr values were significantly lower in the patients than in the controls (P < 0.0001 and P < 0.05, respectively). There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of velocities. Time to peak S in the contractile and conduit periods was significantly higher in the patients than in the controls, in most of the segments (P < 0.05). Time to peak Sr was significantly higher in the patients than in the controls, in all of the periods in all of the segments (P < 0.05) except for mid-septal segments. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that LA longitudinal myocardial functions were impaired in MS patients with S/Sr echocardiography. Our study is the first to demonstrate prolonged time to peak S/Sr of the LA in rheumatic MS. This condition might be an additional factor in the deterioration of regional LA myocardial function in MS patients.

Bu çalışma, ilköğretim ikinci kademedeki Fen ve Teknoloji dersi öğretmenlerinin, laboratuvar çalışmalarına yönelik yeterlik görüşlerinin cinsiyet, mezuniyet branşı, mesleki kıdem, okulun bulunduğu yerleşim birimi ve hizmetiçi eğitime katılma durumuna göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini, 2008–2009 eğitim-öğretim yılında Yozgat il, ilçe ve köylerinde görev yapan büyün Fen ve Teknoloji dersi öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Evrenin tamamına ulaşmak mümkün olduğundan örneklem alma yoluna gidilmemiş, araştırma toplam 223 öğretmenle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin analizi, SPSS 16.0 paket programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Dağılımın özellikleri incelenerek uygun istatistik teknikler kullanılmış ve veriler analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonunda, öğretmenlerin, Fen ve Teknoloji derslerinde, laboratuvarları kullanmanın öğrencilerin derse ilgisini çekme ve etkili öğrenme sağlamada oldukça önemli olduğu görüşünde birleştikleri görülmüştür. Bununla beraber, öğretmenlerin, laboratuvarlardaki araç-gereçleri yeterince tanımadıkları, kullanamadıkları ve bu araç-gereçlerin bakım ve onarım bilgisine sahip olmadıkları, laboratuvar yöntemini uygulamada kullanılan öğretim yöntem ve tekniklerini derslerde yeterince kullanamadıkları sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.

In this study, some of masters and doctorate programs on physics education in Turkey and some foreign countries, were investigated and compared. Investigation includes course content and titles of graduate programs in different universities. Results were compared with the similar programs of some universities in foreign countries, then suggestions were made in order to evaluate more efficient graduate programs in Turkey., Bu çalışmada, ülkemizdeki ve yurt dışındaki bazı fizik eğitimi tezli yüksek lisans, doktora programlarının incelenmesi ve karşılaştırılması yapıldı. inceleme genel olarak farklı üniversitelerdeki tezli lisansüstü programlarının içerdiği dersler ve bu derslerin içerikleri açısından yapıldı. Elde edilen sonuçlar, yurt dışındaki bazı üniversitelerin aynı türdeki programları ile karşılaştırılarak ülkemizdeki fizik eğitimi tezli lisansüstü programlarının daha sağlıklı yürütülebilmesi için öneriler sunuldu.
