A geopark is a geographical area that has a prominent geological heritage site and is part of a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development. Geoparks do not only include geological sites, but also have clear geographical boundaries and the synergy between the geological, biological, and cultural diversity that exists within the area. Communities living in the legacy play a role in protecting and enhancing the function of the natural heritage. The purpose of this research is to describe a collaboration model that is in accordance with the conditions in the development process of the Bayah Dome Geopark. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Qualitative research was conducted because this research requires in-depth information with the aim of identifying the roles of collaborative actors in the development of the Bayah Dome Geopark. This study uses descriptive research in order to determine the Bayah Dome Geopark Development Collaborative Model which involves many stakeholders. The results of this study are that there are 8 collaborative processes that occur in the development of the boyah dome geopark, namely: (1) Network Structure, (2) Commitment To Common Purposes, (3) Trust Among Participants, (4) Governance, (5) Access To Authority, (6) Distributive Accountability, (7) Access To Resources, (8) Information Sharing Keywords : Geopark, Tourism, Collaboration, Development, Geopark adalah wilayah geografis yang memiliki situs warisan geologi terkemuka dan bagian dari konsep holistik perlindungan, pendidikan, dan pembangunan yang berkelanjutan. Penelitian kualitatif dilakukan karena penelitian ini membutuhkan informasi yang mendalam dengan tujuan untuk mengidentfikasi peran-peran aktor kolaborasi dalam pengembangan Geopark Bayah Dome. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif agar dapat menentukan Model Kolaborasi Pengembangan Geopark Bayah Dome yang melibatkan banyak stakeholders. Geodiversity is considered the abiotic equivalent of biodiversity; it can be explained in three main felds such as scientifc, educational, and tourism. In sixteen geosites of Napo Sumaco Geopark, a quantitative assessment of geodiversity was carried out using the methodology proposed by Brilha (Brilha, Geoheritage 8:119–134, 2016). This work has a feld data collection phase in the geosites Shunku Rumi and Pungarayacu Quarry, where for the frst time a geological sketch and stratigraphic columns were made. Regarding the quantitative assessment, it was found that the geosites Sumaco Volcano and Guagua Sumaco Lagoon and Outlook have a high scientifc value, the geosite Pungarayacu Quarry has a high potential for educa tional use, and the Puerto Misahualli’s Bookcase has a high potential touristic use. In terms of degradation risk assessment, Pungarayacu Quarry and Hollin River geosites have a high and moderate degradation risk respectively. The remaining fourteen geosites show a low risk of degradation because there are no activities that cause degradation, and are protected by the people of communities and local guides. Volcanic geoheritage is emphasized as the main asset and distinctive characteristic of the Land of Extinct Volcanoes Geopark in the West Sudetes (SW Poland). However, the geoheritage values of the region are not limited to the legacy of ancient volcanism but include various other elements. This paper explores the contribution of geosites that expose sedimentary rocks of Cretaceous age and landforms developed upon these rocks. Six localities from the Geopark area, included in the comprehensive regional inventory of geosites, are presented. They represent natural and man-made sandstone outcrops and show, among others, lithological variations, small- and large-scale post-sedimentary deformation structures, landforms arising from differential weathering (rock shelters, honeycombs), boulder fields and a sandstone xenolith in volcanic rocks. Next, five localities from outside the Geopark, but still within the Pogórze Kaczawskie region, are described. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of both groups is attempted, and the results show that, in general, geosites within the Geopark rank higher. However at least two from the other group also have significant geotourist potential. Finally, a brief comparative analysis with other parts of the Sudetes, where Cretaceous sedimentary rocks occur, is offered.

Satun Geopark is the first UNESCO Global Geopark of Thailand, locating in Satun province, southern peninsular. Regarding geotourism, this area is unique and of international interest, where abundance of outstanding karst-related geosites exist. However, endowed with such geosites in the region poses high potential sinkhole vulnerability. This study aims in evaluating the sinkhole hazard in this area by means of geophysical investigation and susceptibility hazard assessment. Extensive subsurface studies include the determination of sediment covers, bedrock topography, where cavities, fractures and trigger conditions were extracted from electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), seismic tomography and multichannel analysis of surface wave (MASW) data. Based on the geophysical results, the four selected karst geosites were found to be capable of voids and fractures development. Evidences of water drainage pathway and bedrock dissolution can be seen by the highly weathered rock layer and irregular bedrock topography. The susceptibility hazard assessment based on analytical hierarchy process (AHP) approach and sinkhole susceptibility index (SSI) revealed low to slightly high level of sinkhole risk for the studied geosites. The results from this research provide the local risk management with necessary information to develop a strategic plan in the geopark.

Em um mundo com grandes desafios ambientais, torna-se evidente a necessidade do planejamento e execução de ações que colaborem efetivamente no progresso e desenvolvimento social sustentável. Uma das estratégias utilizadas pelo Geopark Araripe é o apoio na elaboração de produtos que resgatam a identidade e a conservação do patrimônio local, utilizando recursos naturais e comuns da região. Os geoprodutos se pretendem a intensificar a cultura e valorizar o território, incorporando as comunidades às novas tecnologias, envolvendo-os na comercialização e assegurando sustentabilidade e inclusão social. Como objetivo, a pesquisa buscou fortalecer e apoiar as abordagens inovadoras ligadas ao território, estimulando os produtores locais a empreender de forma sustentável nas comunidades estudadas. O estudo foi realizado em quatro etapas: revisão sistemática, elaboração das diretrizes para classificação dos geoprodutos, elaboração dos questionários, aplicação dos questionários ao geoprodutores e estudo de caso. Os resultados obtidos comprovaram que os geoprodutos criam oportunidades e valorizam geodiversidade da região. Portanto, podem ser utilizados para o empreendedorismo e beneficiamento dos produtores locais, estimulando o desenvolvimento e criação de novos estabelecimentos empresariais, além de proporcionar novas fontes de renda.

From an environmental viewpoint, oil wells can be considered a potential source of pollution when improperly managed. The Santa Elena province (Ecuador), located on the Pacific coast, currently has a residual crude oil extraction compared to production generated in the Amazon region of the country. However, this activity in the coastal zone is very near to urban and rural populations. Therefore, a detailed influence analysis of these wells on the environment is necessary. This work aims to analyse, from a geoenvironmental perspective, the oil wells impact located in a pilot zone (urban and rural) of the oil field studied and, complementarily, to describe their incidence on the community and territory. The methodological process includes (i) oil wells compilation and inventory within the study zone and selection of a pilot zone; (ii) contaminating factors identification generated by the wells infrastructure (mechanical and territorial) and their current state of activity (production or abandoned); (iii) environmental impacts analysis generated through the development of a cause-effect matrix and, finally, the evaluation of a method and results found through a focus group technique. The results reflect a negative impact on the land cover and vegetative-animal environment in the vicinity of the wells, caused by the continuous release of gases, metallic oxidation and bituminous exhumation. The overall impacts interpretation compiled indicates that comprehensive action is needed at the wells to control and minimise them. The implementation of new environmental strategies through zoning can help to achieve adequate land-use planning, thus combining the safe and sustainable use of the resource with the development of other community activities (urbanisation, tourism, industry, agriculture and fishing) and environmental protection. No cenário atual as práticas relacionadas à sustentabilidade estão sendo cada vez mais indispensáveis para gerir qualquer negócio e melhorar qualidade de vida. Visando a necessidade de uma agenda ambiental comprometida com o desenvolvimento econômico e a manutenção da qualidade ambiental foram estipulados os Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU). Este trabalho mostra a realidade em 5 comunidades interioranas em atendimento aos ODS. Trata-se de um estudo de caso no entorno dos geossítios do Geopark Araripe da UNESCO, identificando gargalos e avanços que merecem melhor visibilidade para que uma vida sustentável seja alcançada. A partir do estudo ampliado da relação dos 17 Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável com as práticas vivenciadas pelas comunidades, foram realizadas entrevistas estruturadas, no período de maio a dezembro de 2020, a fim de se obter um diagnóstico do comprometimento destas comunidades com as metas dos ODS. Realizou-se análise SWOT para identificação dos pontos fortes e fracos dos geossítios, no sentido de subsidiar ações futuras de promoção ao desenvolvimento sustentável ao dia a dia destas comunidades.

The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze effect of attractions, social media, quality of service and facilities on revisit interest with customer satisfaction as intervening variables to Geopark Kaldera Toba in Sianjur Mulamula Village. This type of research is descriptive quantitative with a research sample of 100 respondents who visited Sianjur Mulamula Village. Data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires to respondents. Hypothesis testing in this study was carried out using path analysis. The results of this study indicate that attractions has effect on customer satisfaction and revisit interest, quality of service has effect on customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction has effect on revisit interest. While social media and facilities have no effect on customer satisfaction, and social media, quality of service, and facilities have no effect on revisit interest. Customer satisfaction is not able to mediate between social media with revisit interest, and customer satisfaction is able to mediate between attractions, quality of service, and facilities with interest in revisiting. The synergy between conservation and development of the protected area is involved in stakeholders’ trade-off for the future of the protected area. The paper designed the methodology of assessing the synergy featuring three groups of attributes’ index, being naturalness index, functionality one and territoriality one, respectively, and was practiced in the Diehong Bridge Scenic Area (DBSA) of the Jiuxiang Gorge Cave Geopark of Yunnan Province(China). The DBSA is characteristic of the integration of surficial landscapes with underground ones as well as Yi nationality culture and is of significance in karst geomorphology and regional resource environment. The DBSA’s naturalness index of 7.30 revealed it was mainly composed of the secondary landscapes. Its functionality index of 7.58 implied that it was a developing scenic area in contribution to regional development and nature conservation. And its territoriality index of 6.8 demonstrated that its industry was at transitional phase in contribution to communities and residents’ well being. The assessed results gave new directions for improving the DBSA’s management that is naturalizing the managed landscapes focusing on secondary vegetation, and perfecting industry structure of tourist six elements especially in local characteristic products and local service, improving local residents’ participation in both management and products development of local cultural and special product resources.

Environmental damage is the real threat of natural resources where the economic motives (utility) are often contrary to the conservation motives (protection). However, there are some efforts to reduce the damage. One of them is called bottom-up innovation, which is known as grassroots innovation. This study aims to identify and analyze the innovations emerging from society to preserve the environment in the geopark area, which is used as tourism objects. It is a qualitative descriptive study conducted on Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano Geosite, Pindul Cave Geosite, and Siung Beach Geosite. This study shows that the grassroots innovations are not purely initiated by local communities but by some people who are members of tourism awareness groups or Pokdarwis. The innovations were carried out independently without the help of experts or the government, the innovations were developed by a “trial and error” process, and the innovations are temporary and sometimes only solve the current problems and local scope. Based on the implication, the grassroots innovations can be divided into two categories; direct influence or indirect influence.

Belitung is an island on the south eastern coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Geologically, Belitung is an continental island and during Pleistocene was united with Sumatra and Borneo to form a subcontinent named Sundaland indicated by the existence of an archaic Pleistocene river located in Tebat Rasau in the East Belitung Regency with the presence of Asiatic arowana (Scleropages formosus) and non-poisonous freshwater pufferfish from the genus Pao, which is identified here as resembling Pao hilgendorfii. The existence of these biota strengthening the concept of Sundaland and has put Belitung tributaries closer to mainland Borneo’s river system rather than that of Sumatra’s. Fascinating discoveries found in this current study are the fact that the people of Tebat Rasau acknowledge based on the presence of the Asiatic arowana and non-poisonous pufferfish about the union of Belitung with the mainland Borneo and Sumatra in the past long before the concept of Sundaland itself was formulated and published. This knowledge has put the people of Tebat Rasau more aware on the conservation of the area and fully supports the appointment of the Tebat Rasau vicinity as a National Geopark. The local products have also produced from the vicinity including the well-known herbal tea from the leaves of Pelawan tree (Tristaniopsis merguensis; Myrtaceae) known as “Pelawan Tea”.

In this article, the respondent's opinion is discussed about the effectiveness of the model of integrating local cultural values of the Belitung Geopark in learning science in elementary schools. The research design refers to research and development design (R&D) includes four stages of activity. However, this study discusses the results of a preliminary study on the content of the local cultural values of the Belitung Geopark in science learning in elementary schools. The population of this research is the teachers of elementary schools Dendang District and Simpang Pesak District, East Belitung Regency. The sample was selected by purposive sampling, namely 34 elementary school teachers and as many as 152 elementary school students in grade IV, grade V, and grade VI. The instruments used in the data collection process included questionnaires, interview guidelines, observation sheets, and student learning outcomes tests. The teacher's ability to plan to learn is measured using the teacher ability assessment tool (TAAT) I format. Meanwhile, the teacher's ability to teach is measured using the (TAAT) II format. From the results of this study, it concluded that (1) Implementation of the Geopark local wisdom curriculum is effective in improving student geopark learning outcomes in science learning in elementary schools; (2) The characteristics of science learning that are integrated with Geopark content can be implemented by the teacher; (3) The model of integrating local cultural values of the Belitung Geopark in learning science in elementary schools can realize the concept of science is fun in elementary school.

Kampung Padang Puteh is a village that is located in southwest of Langkawi Island, Malaysia, which has been affected by tourism development since its location is exactly midway between two beach areas of Pantai Tengah and Pantai Cenang, resulting in an ever-expanding number of homestays, motels, hotels, restaurants, and food stalls. The local community is one of the important stakeholders that might be the most affected by this development and it needs to be considered in geopark development. Thus, there is a need to assess the stakeholder's current awareness that contributes to their identification with Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark. To address this, this study aims to investigate the local community knowledge of geopark; and find out their perception about various stakeholders' roles in assisting well-being through tourism development. Data were collected through a face-to-face questionnaire with 49 household representatives by simple random sampling. The findings indicate that the local community of Kampung Padang Puteh has a moderate level of knowledge of the geopark. More than half of respondents could describe the characteristics of a geopark. However, only 18.4% of them are able to state the geopark concept correctly. They are not sure about the benefits of geopark status to their livelihood. Generally, they perceive that geopark status gives less significant impacts than duty free status on their well-being. In fact, tourists are the most important stakeholders in assisting their well-being through tourism development based on the local's perception. Thus, a good engagement between local community and authorities needs to be enhanced to lead to an increase in their sense of belonging to the area. The locals are perceived as passive in the process, and that their voices should be incorporated so that the geopark better answers to their needs and vision of empowering their role as inhabitants of geopark.

The surrounding area of the Bine El Ouidane dam in Central Morocco, has significant potential for the development of geotourism due to its historic, geological, biological, and cultural heritage. However, these valuable resources, constituting a real opportunity for sustainable development of the local economy, remain ignored and underexploited by decision-makers. This work aimed to overcome this gap by identifying and selecting remarkable geosites in the area of the Bine El Ouidane lake, and then by proposing itineraries that help promoting this mountainous area. Two geoitineraries were developed based on the accessibility, touristic attraction and trekking opportunities. Eight highly attractive sites were highlighted according to their geological characteristics, scientific and contextual interests, and relevance. All these geosites present scientific interesting topics regarding sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, magmatism, structural geology, geomorphology, hydrogeology, and karstification, belonging to the central High Atlas post-Variscan sedimentary and structural evolution. These sites can constitute a tool for the development generating work for the inhabitants to ensure their sedentarization.

The district of Mersing is bestowed with many national and international geological heritage sites dated since 350 million years ago. The high biodiversity and uniqueness of the local culture complements the geoheritage of the area. Thus, the National Geopark Committee has chosen Mersing as a territory to be developed as a geopark. Mersing Geopark development efforts were initiated in 2017 through the Mersing Geopark Scientific and Development Committee. The entire Mersing district of 6,371 square kilometers, including the marine areas right up to the Aur Archipelago is identified as the geopark area. The geoheritage here has been identified as 22 geosites, which cover land and island areas. Important flora and fauna have also been identified as being within the protected areas. The unique and preserved traditions of life, art and culture add to the value of this geopark. Several key elements were introduced to prepare Mersing Geopark before being evaluated as a national geopark candidate in December 2018, namely governance of the geopark - management based on ‘co-management’ mechanism, nature conservation – community, community economy through geotourism activities, and public education. Many programmes and activities have been carried out to face future plans for Mersing to become a UNESCO Global Geopark. Geopark enhances natural and cultural heritage resources through integrated development, geotourism development to increase income, preservation of heritage sites and empowerment of local communities to foster a strong sense of pride and belonging to a place.

The success in managing the Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi tour by providing quality services and facilities that can be determined by developing these tourist destinations. Purpose Want to know tourist satisfaction factors and analysis of the most dominant factors in influencing tourist satisfaction Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi. The population is the guests who stay at the Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi. Samples were taken as many as 100 tourist respondents using the Non-Probability Sampling technique. The research method used was the Accidental sampling approach, namely the technique of determining the sample based on chance, that is, who happened to meet the researcher can be sampled if deemed suitable. Based on statistical data analysis, the indicators in this study are valid and the variables are reliable. Conclusion on testing the classical assumptions, multicolonierity-free regression model, heteroscedasticity does not occur, and is normally distributed. The order of each individual variable with the most influence is regression coefficient variable 0.316, regression coefficient 0.271, regression coefficient responsiveness 0.201, and regression coefficient reliability of 0.197 while the variable that has the greatest influence, low with a regression coefficient of 0.165. So from these results, the Cileutuh Sukabumi Geopark needs to maintain in terms of service on several components that are considered by tourists to be good and need to fix and improve things that are still lacking in the element of service.

West Java is a province that has many mainstay tourist attractions in Indonesia. Sukabumi is a district in West Java that has one of the tourist attractions that has been inaugurated as a part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network (UGGN) in 2018, this area opens the opportunity to become a leading destination in West Java and even nationally. The tourist attraction of the Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Geopark offers natural and cultural attractions that can be explored in geological diversity, biological diversity, and cultural diversity. The number of tourists visiting the Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Geopark Tourist Attraction has increased from 2012-2018, but in 2019 the number has decreased. This study aims to analyze the tourism marketing strategy carried out by the manager to increase the number of tourist visits to the Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Geopark. The method used is qualitative, data collection through literature study, interviews, and observation. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. To analyze the marketing mix and strategy using a SWOT analysis, which aims to identify the strategies needed to increase tourism visits. The results showed that the marketing strategy can be done to increase the number of tourists through the SWOT approach. The SO strategy, namely the strategy of packaging attractive tourism products and services, the ST strategy through the strategy of instilling a brand image in the minds of visitors / Building a place identity (Positioning), the WO strategy, namely through the promotion strategy, the WT strategy, namely through the community empowerment strategy and building commitment and cooperation with a stakeholder.

Mount Rinjani is a volcano with hot water, savanna, and other beauty of nature as one of the leading destinations in Lombok. Behind its beauty, Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) is in a natural hazard area, making it a disaster-prone area. The objective of this study is to identify the parties and roles of each party involved in the Ecotourism hazard management in TNGR based on their level of interest and influence. Determination of sampling used purposive sampling, as well as semi-structured key informant interviews with snowball sampling using interview guides. The study object of this study were the parties (stakeholders) and the relationship between the parties involved in the hazard management of TNGR ecotourism. The roles of stakeholders in managing the dangers of TNGR Ecotourism were divided into four: support, actors, decision-makers, and infrastructure providers. The key players were TNGR Center and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Tourism Office. The subjects were North Lombok Regency Tourism Office, Central Lombok Regency Tourism Office, East Lombok Culture and Tourism Office, EMHC (Edelweiss Medical Help Center), NTB Provincial Office of Environment and Forestry, Mataram Rescue and Search Office, BPMVG Sembalun, Rinjani Porter Guide Forum, Lombok APGI, Head of Sembalun Subdistrict, Head of Bayan Subdistrict, Sangkreang Nature Lovers Organization, and Tourism Activist Group (Pokdarwis) Rinjani Perkasa. The context setter was Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of NTB Province. Os inselbergues são relevos excepcionais e possuem relevância científica, ambiental, educacional, turística e cultural. Sua gênese está associada à meteorização diferencial em rochas mais resistentes, devido à condicionantes mineralógicos, petrológicos ou ao fraturamento. No Nordeste do Brasil, o campo de inselbergues dos municípios de Quixadá e Quixeramobim é um dos mais representativos da Terra. São feições esculpidas em rochas graníticas exumadas que resultaram em diversas formas de meso e microescala. Em vista disso, esses territórios foram objeto de uma proposta de geoparque. Nesse artigo, analisamos o estado da arte acerca do conhecimento sobre suas origens, evolução e classificação. Para tanto, quantificamos as publicações sobre a área em estudo e sintetizamos as principais teorias e discussões, com intuito de auxiliar as estratégias para o uso sustentável do geopatrimônio local.

This form of tourism is often related to geoparks. Compared to existing forms of tourism, the novelty of geotourism is its earth science basis, together with the complex approach which involves the studying of our living and built environment, although the protection of our geological values is of primary importance. The ten year duration of two UNESCO Global Geoparks in Hungary has produced measurably positive changes in the number of visitors. However, it is feared that the geological and cultural values of our other geographical areas will remain hidden without the protection guaranteed by a category system. Specifically, achieving the UNESCO Global Geopark title is relatively difficult, especially for territories lacking the potential for the application procedure. However, the National Geopark Concept developed by the Hungarian Geopark Committee is intended to solve this problem.

Shanidar Cave is located in north Iraq (Kurdistan Region), it is one of the most well-known caves in the region due to its archeological significance. It is an archaeological site which is located within Bradost Mountain north of Erbil city. In the cave, eleven skeletons of Neanderthals, have been found dating back to 65000 – 35000 years B.C., they were called Shanidar (1-11). The cave also contains two later proto-Neolithiccemeteries. The cave is developed due to dissolution of limestone beds of the Qamchuqa Formation which forms the carapace of Bradost Mountain (anticline). Currently, the cave and the downslopes to the foothills of the mountain are limited by a fence. The cave can be reached by a paved road to the foothills level, then by stepping following artificially constructed leader which is designed and constructed by local materials from stones and wood giving to the leader a natural view. The Shanidar cave is highly recommended to be a national Geopark due to its archeological significance

The Spanish region of Extremadura represents a paradigmatic case within the European Union because above 30% of its territory (41,634 km2) is protected by international, national or regional figures of protection. In addition, many of these protected areas are connected between them through the so-called Armorican Arch of Caceres which crosses the region from SE to NW as if it were a natural corridor of quartzite ridges. The main goal of this study was to identify tourist resources in this natural corridor aimed at the design of tourist routes that can suppose an opportunity of touristic development in this territory characterized by a low population density. For doing that, we have followed these methodological steps: [1] geographical delimitation of the Armorican Arch of Caceres, [2] socio-economic analysis of the municipalities and [3] identification of the natural protected sites crossed by this corridor, [4] compilation of information on fauna and flora as well as geological and cultural aspects, and [5] design of tourist routes. This corridor passes by 52 municipalities, 7 counties, 3 provinces and 2 countries and connects the La Siberia Biosphere Reserve with the Naturtejo Geopark in Portugal passing by the Villuercas, Ibores, Jara Geopark, the Monfrague National Park (also Biosphere Reserve), the Canchos de Ramiro y Ladronera Special Protection Area for Birds and the International Tagus River Biosphere Reserve. We have identified 81 remarkable tourist resources: 37 natural protected sites, 30 sites of geological interest and 14 medieval castles as well as the presence of fossils and valuable species of flora and fauna (some of them are endangered). By using this information we have designed three thematic tourist routes: birdwatching, medieval castles and geological sites.

The Kachchh Rift Basin of western India is known for several geological findings and revelations for more than a century. Earth scientists from India and the globe have played a significant role in placing the Kachchh Basin's geology at a global level. A basin is a place for geologists to understand typical geological processes with textbook examples of resultant landforms. The Mesozoic and Cenozoic sedimentary sequences of Kachchh have preserved significant diversity in fossil flora and fauna, ranging from marine to terrestrial environment accompanied by volcanic, structural, and sedimentary processes. Due to lack of attention from the authorities and the absence of any legislation in India, the geologically important sites of the Kachchh Basin have been subjected to unauthorized and undocumented fossil collection and scraping of geological strata for mining and infrastructural development. Due to the noteworthy preservation of the geological features at Kanthkot area in the Wagad highland of the eastern Kachchh Basin, two key geosites, i.e., Trambau River Bed and Kanthkot Fort Hill are proposed, which have immense potential to be recognized as the first ‘Jurassic Geopark’ of the Kachchh Basin. The proposed geosites hold great significance in scientific, educational, and geotourism aspects like palaeontology, sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, volcanism, structures, and geomorphology with historical and cultural heritage. SWOT analysis for the geosite suggests good potential for development, conservation, and geotourism. The conservation of the geological heritage along with self-sustainable economic development through awareness and collaborative approach between the locals and experts from the scientific community is the primary motive of this work.

The petrographic diversity of Rila Mountain is an important prerequisite for the development of Rila Geopark and its nomination for UNESCO Geopark. According to the principle of the thematic geodiversity, the leading theme of the geopark – glacial landscapes, is complemented by the remarkable petrographic diversity of igneous and metamorphic rocks, in which alpine glacial forms are developed. Following a recent review of the intrusive rocks that make up the Rila-West Rhodope Batholith, the concept of Rila Geopark would not be complete without a retrospective of the metamorphic rocks that are an integral part of its petrographic diversity. The different approaches (lithodemic and lithotectonic) to the mapping of the Rila-Rhodope Massif divided the geologists into two camps. This led to a discrepancy in terminology and nomenclature of the metamorphic units, which is unacceptable in the context of the educational priority of the geopark. For the purpose of geotourism, clear and understandable interpretations are required to provoke the visitors’ interest in geological processes and phenomena, rather than confusion and perplexity. This article is a historical overview of the geological study of the metamorphic terrains in Rila Mountain with a scheme of lithodemic units based on the existing lithostratigraphic nomenclature. This approach allows the preservation of the names of the lithostratigraphic units, whose toponymic adjectives derive from well known geographical features in the Rila-Rhodope Massif. The rank term is replaced by a lithological or descriptive term, which frees the nomenclature from the dogmatic restrictions of the stratigraphic code and reduces the distance between the strictly scientific and popular science approach used for interpretation of geological information in a popular language accessible to the general public. This methodology is consistent with the approach recommended for mapping of non-stratified bodies on the Geological Map of the Republic of Bulgaria at a scale 1:50 000.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana masyarakat setempat sebagai pengelola geosite membuat perencanaan pengembangan geosite di Kawasan Geopark Belitong. Dalam hal ini masyarakat setempat menjadi sumber utama informasi penelitian. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini tidak didasarkan pada pengujian hipotetis tetapi dengan menggunakan analisis terhadap definisi operasional konsep yang telah dirumuskan berdasarkan pertanyaan penelitian. Namun demikian, peneliti juga melakukan analisis matematika menggunakan Teknik �Weight Scoring System� atau sistem penilaian berbobot untuk menganalisis pola dan arti hubungan antar kategori. Sementara itu, peninjauan literatur masih tetap dilakukan untuk mengetahui teori-teori yang telah diterapkan dalam penelitian terkait. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Penelitian ini dilakukan di 4 (empat) lokasi Geosite yang terdiri dari 1) Geosite Bukit Peramun di Kecamatan Sijuk Kabupaten Belitung, 2) Geosite Juru Sebrang di Kecamatan Tanjungpandan Kabupaten Belitung, 3) Geosite OpenPit Namsalu di Kecamatan Kelapa Kampit Kabupaten Belitung Timur dan 4) Geosite Tebat Rasau di Kecamatan Simpang Renggiang Kabupaten Belitung Timur. Dengan teknik "purposive sampling", maka jumlah Informan yang digunakan adalah sebanyak 16 orang yang didistribusikan secara proporsional untuk setiap lokasi penelitian. Penelitian ini menemukan fakta bahwa masyarakat lokal pada umumnya memiliki kemampuan yang baik untuk menyusun dan merumuskan perencanaan pengembangan Geosite namun tetap berpotensi untuk lebih ditingkatkan dengan mengoptimalkan pengetahuan, partisipasi dan keterampilan teknis dalam perencanaan melalui strategi peningkatan kapasitas sumber daya manusia (HRD) dalam pengelolaan Geosite sesuai dengan top 10 fokus area UNESCO Global Geopark.

This paper summarizes a discussion of the role of disaster-related museums in passing down memories and lessons-learned to future generations through storytelling. The 135-minute discussion was held as a breakout session entitled “The Role of Museums in Telling Live Lessons” during the 2020 International Forum on Telling Live Lessons from Disasters in Kobe, Japan. On 25 January 2020, representatives of five museums (one still under construction) engaged in disaster storytelling activities. They discussed various issues, including how to engage local communities and improve the relationship between storytelling and sustainable museum management. The participating museums were the Pacific Tsunami Museum in Hawaii, U.S.A., the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI) in Kobe, Japan, the Museum of the Mount Bandai Eruption in Fukushima, Japan, the International Tsunami Museum in Khaolak, Thailand, and the Ban Namkhem Memorial and Museum in Thailand (under construction). Museums are important venues that develop and continue disaster storytelling. All the participating museums digitally archive images, which creates the permanent inheritance of collective memory. All the museums focus on children. On the other hand, human and economic resources are required for museums to carry out their activities. The need for a museum network engaged in disaster storytelling is also discussed.

Currently, the use of gadgets has been rampant in all levels of society, including among children. Uncontrolled use of gadgets has more negative impacts, both from social, health, academic and psychosocial aspects. In this regard, the role of parents and teachers is needed to anticipate or reduce the negative impact of using gadgets. However, an understanding of the dangers of gadgets to children and how to prevent or overcome them is not necessarily understood comprehensively by parents and teachers. Seeing these conditions, an innovative activity was carried out which aims to 1) provide an understanding of the dangers of exposure to gadgets and social media in children and 2) socialize and demonstrate the concept of geoscience education and geo-tourism based on geopark as an alternative to reduce gadget exposure to children, as well as enrich practical experiences using the concept of geoscience and geotourism (geosista). This activity is designed for teachers and parents with the hope of being a source of inspiration and also as a guide to be practiced when with children both at school and at home. The concept of GEOSISTA (geoscience and geo-tourism based on Geopark) is considered important for the people of the island of Lombok by considering the potential of a landscape that can provide benefits in both economic, social and cultural aspects. The activities, which are packaged in the form of seminars and workshops, are felt to have an impact on increasing participants' understanding and skills in applying the Geosista concept as an effort to reduce gadget dependence on children. In addition, building a generation that has a strong character in preserving the environment through science can be expected to be a joint mission, both for teachers and parents

Physical alterations across the Romanian Carpathians have resulted in an ecocide in the form of the hydromophological disruption of n early every river. The primary cause has been two historical waves of hydropower development. Collectively, these projects were undertaken without consideration for their cumulative impact. Only one, small, ecologically complete and undisturbed river, Râul Alb, has survived. This river flows through a national park, a geopark, and three Natura 2000 sites. All of these, coupled with its spectacular heterogeneous water course, confirm Râul Alb as one of the top sites of natural heritage in Romania. However, Râul Alb was the proposed site for a hydropower project, consisting of two hydropower plants, one in the mountains and one in the depression downstream. Initially, an environmental permit was granted for this project. This was followed by a grassroots campaign and legal injunction that sought to halt the project. The campaign centred on a petition that reached over 116,000 signatures. The legal plaintiff argued that county and national laws were potentially breached by this project. Ultimately, the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal found in favour of the plaintiff and blocked the construction of the hydropower plants on administrative grounds (invoking one of the laws considered). Yet pressure to develop the untouched river remains.

Nemrut-Suphan proposed geopark area located in Eastern Anatolia, Bitlis County, between the Bitlis City Center and Tatvan-Ahlat-Adilcevaz Villages which covers total of 5.300 square km. Two strato - volcano of Turkey, the Nemrut (2.948 meters) and Suphan (4.058 meters) mountains, are located in this area. The southern part of the area consists of metamorphic rocks meters, which are the oldest strata of Turkey. The biggest soda lake of the World, Lake Van, consist the eastern side, of the geopark area. Ophiolitic rocks also exist in this area, representing the remnant of the ancient Neo - Tethys ocean. Total 44 geosite were proposed and determined in the geopark area, most of them are located on five proposed geo - routes. These proposed geosites and several cultural heritage elements are amalgamated within the scope of the geopark management system. This plan also includes the geo - conservation table of these proposed geosites. This area is ready for announcing as a second International Geopark (UNESCO) of Turkey in terms of unique geodiversity, cultural heritages, bio - diversity and different kinds of summer and winter outdoor activity potential, in the light of the performed inventory studies. Bitlis Governorship This study covers one part of the field studies carried out within the framework of the Nemrut-Suphan Geopark Protocol signed between theBitlis Governorship and Istanbul University. These studies were carried out through several field studies, workshops, training and promotional activities in the region. We would like to thank to the Bitlis Governorship for their assistance and support at every stage of these works. The main goal of my research is to introduce you to the Racha viticulture and wine-making territory. The region has a complex geological and geomorphological structure, which has greatly influenced the formation of relief formation, as well as the culture and traditions of the region. This is an area that meets all the requirements of a geopark, because a geopark is not just a geological area, and it is a connection between man and the earth at all levels. Exactly these connections are well identified in the field of this study. The presented viticulture microzone is located on both sides of the Rioni River, although the taste of grapes in the microzone varies from north to south, which does not depend on just one specific geographical component. Soil chemical composition, landscape characteristics, geological characteristics, terrain types, and more are important. Racha Viticulture - Wine Zone and its recognition play an important role in the development of geotourism. What is already creating new jobs is a new economic activity and an additional source of income, economic benefits. Also, the region is mountainous and characterized by severe depopulation. It is possible to limit emigration through research and development in this area.

Sustainable development of the Stebnyk Mining Industrial Area (MIA) is fully consistent with the goal of the National Program for the Development of the Mineral Resources of Ukraine until 2030. It is the ensuring the urgent needs for mineral resources without the risk of depriving future generations of their needs (On Approval of the National Program…, 2011). The triune concept of sustainable development is based on the economic, environmental and social components. For practical implementation of the sustainable development strategy of Stebnyk MIA, it is expedient to design, create and operate the Stebnyk natural and man-made geopark based on the blighty (Zinko, Shevchuk, 2011; Mokryi et al., 2017) and European (Alexandrowicz., 2006) experience. Expert assessments of the environment indicate the need to use information and analytical technologies in the management, modeling, and design of environmental safety Stebnyk MIA.

This research aims to describe analytically Toba Caldera's ability to become one of the UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020. The research used a qualitative research method and is done through literature studies, government documents, and internet sources. Researchers founded, there are inter-linkages amongst Indonesia's central and local government together with stakeholders' continuous contribution who concern with Toba Caldera's sustainable tourism development. Those concerning parties fought for Toba Caldera's recognition status as the UNESCO Global Geopark. From 2011 to 2020, for nine years, the Toba Caldera was finally named a UNESCO Global Geopark during the UN Cultural Body's 209th Plenary Session held in Paris on July 7, 2020. Toba Caldera Geopark was a worldwide tourist magnet as it was home to 13 sites with breathtaking views, namely: Tongging Sipiso-Piso, Silalahi Sabungan, Haranggaol, Sibaganding Parapat, Eden Park, Balige Liong Spige Meat, Situmurun Blok Uluan, Hutaginjang, Muara Sibandang, Sipinsur Bakti Raja, Bakara Tipang, Tele Pangururan, and Pusuk Buhit. A ceremony where the UNESCO Global Geopark placard will be formally given to the Toba caldera is slated to be held in Jeju, South Korea, by September 2020. According to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Paris, Toba Caldera is among the 16 new UNESCO Global Geoparks announced by the organization's executive board. North Sumatra provincial administration is hopeful that the recognition will help boost foreign tourist arrivals to the destination. Rural areas and in particular mountain territories have been experiencing an increasing appreciation of natural and heritage resources and their use for recreational and leisure activities, boosting tourism development and generating renewed functions with economic and social impact. Inland waters are becoming increasingly important for leisure and tourism, with many activities associated and many users seeking for them. Fluvial beaches represent leisure facilities for rural communities, allowing people and visitors access to aquatic spaces for leisure, sport and entertainment, creating conditions for enjoying nature and water resources, particularly during the summer period. The supply of surface water resources – rivers, lakes and canals – in the territory of the Estrela Geopark in Portugal, represent a tourist potential for this mountain region. They qualify the offer and constitute recreational attractions appreciated by the community and tourists, generating social well-being and fostering new services. There is a growing demand for these spaces, allowing the upgrading of fluvial areas, generating new features and enhancing the image of the destination Serra da estrela. The greater part of this equipment is operated by public entities linked to local administration, thus benefiting from public investment and support. There is a strong perception of its importance in attracting tourists, in improving the quality of life of the local population and in the opportunity to expand trade and service activities. Also in the image of the community, and their self-esteem is perceived, the importance of river beaches and consequently the disclosure that they associate, in terms of environmental quality, heritage value, and space of tranquillity.

Geoparki mają swoją ugruntowaną pozycję w zakresie promocji i rozwoju regionów, w tym miast, w skali zarówno europejskiej, jak i światowej. Przestrzeń zurbanizowana należy do najsilniej przekształcanych środowisk krajobrazowych, a zarówno jej obecny stan, jak i planowane kierunki wprowadzenia zmian nie zawsze są kompatybilne z obowiązującymi zasadami zrównoważonego rozwoju. Jednym z atrakcyjniejszych kierunków rozwoju miast jest zwiększanie jego atrakcyjności poprzez rozwój geoparków jako miejsca destynacji turystycznej w szerokim znaczeniu tego pojęcia. Ta innowacyjna forma kształtowania krajobrazu zurbanizowanego łączy w sobie wiele funkcji rozwojowych, w tym m.in. rekreacyjną, edukacyjną a jednocześnie generującą konkretne efekty ekonomiczne. Geopark Kielce, położony w granicach administracyjnych miasta, stanowi jeden z ciekawszych przykładów wykorzystania przestrzeni do niedawna nieaktywnej gospodarczo do rozwoju funkcji turystyczno-rekreacyjnej, poprawy estetyki lokalnej przestrzeni, a jednocześnie implikującej ekonomiczne efekty i na dodatek, zgodnie z zasadami zrównoważonego rozwoju, przestrzeni zurbanizowanej.

Managing the Geopark involves the integration between several aspects; conservation, education, and the sustainable community economic development. Multistakeholder is responsible for managing the Geopark. To make it effective, the stakeholders should work equally balanced. This study is aimed to evaluate the management effectiveness of Geopark in Geotourism track with specified theme. The method that was used in this study is descriptive quantitative approach, with the help of rating scale to analyze partial scoring and managing, as well as in each aspect and as a whole. This research was done at Rinjani-Lombok Geopark which focused on Geotourism track 2: the Ancient Volcanic Mountains Trail in Sembalun Valley and Geotourism Track 3: The Youngest Volcanic Mountain, Rinjani. The respondents were chosen by non-probability-sampling method, which is purposive sampling. It consists of Geopark management, government, locals, and tourists. As a result, it is shown that the management effectiveness is considered average, and also there are some imbalances found among the aspects mentioned. Educational aspect has the lowest efficiency, while the rests of the aspects are on average level. There are several indicators that influenced in educational aspect, and one of them is caused by the worst management.

The aim of this research is to determine the characteristics of visitors. F ind ing the effective communication is delivered by the Geopark Information Center office in conveying information to visitors who come to the office. The formulation of the problem that arises in this research is to know how the Relationship between Information Services and Visitor Satisfaction Level at Palabuhanratu Geopark Information Center (GIC). As well as wanting to find out how strong is the real relationship between the service relations carried out by the GIC office with the satisfaction of visitors who come to the Geopark Information Center office. The results of this study shows that the Relationship between the Quality of Information Services with the Level of Visitor Satisfaction at the Geopark Information Center were effective. Participatory Action Research (PAR) involving local communities and geological heritage were examined in the framework of the ‘Litoral del Biobio’ Mining Geopark project (Chile). A broad spectrum of the population was involved in testing the suitability of PAR methods to determine the sociological perception of geology, geo-tourism and geoconservation, and thus to contribute to define future local development initiatives. Specifically, 56 workshops were realized on basic geological concepts, field experiences in geosites, Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis and identification of specific strategic plans. The study involved 637 participants, including local administrators, private companies, chambers of commerce and tourism, social entities, the general public and Lafkenche indigenous communities. Participants considered important the workshops and their learning about basic geological concepts. The main result of these workshops was the collection of information for the design of strategic plans for each of the communes and the empowerment of the local community. This was ratified by letters of commitment from associations and participants to the Geopark initiative. This research enabled the communities to identify four strategic areas: education; tourism; heritage; and public-private coordination, which will be considered in the elaboration of specific development plans. This bottom-up strategy has allowed demonstration that geotourism has the potential to contribute to the sustainable development of the territory, and can benefit areas with very different socio-economic realities: the indigenous peoples of the south, which are rural (sustained by agriculture and fishing) and those of the north, which lives mainly in highly populated cities with high unemployment, where industrial reconversion did not allow all of them to overcome the crisis after the closure of the mining industry.

Zagora Province in south eastern Morocco is characterised by its desert environment as well as its culture, people, biodiversity and geology inherited from the Anti-Atlas chain. But the value of this geodiversity is not widely recognised. Ordovician and Quaternary deposits are the most dominant outcrops in the province. Within the former, the Fezouata Shales constitute an information source for palaeontologists about the marine life explosion at the beginning of the Ordovician Period. Taking into account this important scientific value, the fossiliferous Fezouata Formation presents a global geoheritage with a geo-educational potential. In addition, the Ordovician and the Quaternary deposits in Zagora Province provide a rich geodiversity of scientific, educational and tourism interests. In order to protect and to promote this geoheritage, an inventory of geosites and geodiversity sites is being established, which should serve as a database helping the regional authorities to properly manage the geoheritage within the framework of the future aspiring Bani Geopark. In the present paper an assessment of the geosites’ scientific value was established using a quantitative methodology in order to obtain numerical scores. Adding the quantitative assessment of the degradation degree has resulted in the fossiliferous geosites from Fezouata Formation being selected as the most vulnerable areas in need of geoconservation programmes and protection strategies.

This research investigates names as brands of geotourism based on morphological and toponymic analysis tourism destinations in (UGG) Batur Bali – Indonesia. Qualitative descriptive method was employed by collecting data from UGG Batur. The purposes of the analysis are to describe the destinations and their branding function based on their word formations and toponyms. The research finds the morphological and toponymic patterns of the names. Their intersection generates the brands of geotourism namely characteristics of geotourisms, association to an event related to a person, memory or in honor of outstanding people, geographical peculiarities and names from one other location.
