Supplemental Material for First-Line Immunochemotherapy Versus Palliative Chemotherapy Plus Definitive Radiation Therapy for de novo Metastatic Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma: A Matched Cohort Study by Zhen-Chong Yang, Ting Liu, Yan-Zhou Chen, Chun-Yan Guo, Li-Ting Liu, Sai-Lan Liu, Qiu-Yan Chen, Hai-Qiang Mai, and Shan-Shan Guo in Cancer Control

Epithelial membrane protein 3 (EMP3) is a transmembrane signaling molecule, which is important in the regulation of apoptosis, differentiation and invasion of cancer cells. However, the specific function and regulatory mechanism of EMP3 in primary breast carcinoma remain to be elucidated. In the present study, the mRNA and protein levels of EMP3 were observed to be upregulated in primary breast carcinoma tissues, compared with normal tissues. It was hypothesized that the overexpression of EMP3 was correlated with the downregulation of microRNA‑765 (miR‑765), an underexpressed miRNA in primary breast carcinoma tissues. Functional analysis demonstrated that EMP3 was regulated by miR‑765 through binding to its 3'untranslated region. In addition, the knockdown of EMP3 and miR‑765 had similar effects on the inhibition of proliferation and invasion in SK‑BR‑3 cells. These results provided novel insight into the regulatory mechanism of EMP3 in primary breast carcinoma.

Since the regional technology innovation system is an open system that is away from equilibrium, nonlinear, layered and fluctuant, and has the characters of ecosystem, we will regard the technology innovation system as a technology innovation ecosystem. Based on the concept of regional technology innovation ecosystem (RTIE), we set up the evaluation indicator system to analysis the performance of input and output of technology innovation in 30 Chinese regions by using projection-pursuit model. As a result of the statistical technology's overcoming the impact of abnormal points, we get better evaluation conclusion. So it is a reasonable method for projection-pursuit model to evaluate the regional technology innovation ecosystem performance.
