The spring land surface temperature (LST) over Western Eurasia, which is critical for ensuring food security, shows a clear interannual variability. Based on reanalysis data and numerical simulations, we investigated the potential influencing factors and the related mechanisms of spring LST variability in mid–high latitudes of Western Eurasia (MHWEA). The results show that the North Atlantic tripole sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTAs) in February, which persist into spring, can significantly affect the spring LST variability over MHWEA. Analyses indicate that the positive phase of the North Atlantic tripole SSTA pattern tends to increase the meridional SST gradient between positive SSTAs over the mid-latitude North Atlantic and negative SSTAs over the south of Greenland, which strengthens the low-level atmospheric baroclinicity and thus induces more active transient eddy activities. Correspondingly, a Rossby wave train triggered by the eddy-mediated processes originates from the North Atlantic and propagates downstream, thereby causing anomalous anticyclonic circulation over MHWEA. Meanwhile, the westerly anomalies over the subpolar North Atlantic accelerate the polar front jet and provide a favorable thermodynamical condition for the tropospheric warming over the Barents–Kara Seas by bringing warm and moist oceanic air. The polar warming tends to weaken the poleward temperature gradient at mid–high latitudes and then decelerate the Eurasian mid-latitude westerlies, thus dynamically contributing to the circulation changes that can affect spring LST over MHWEA. Model results suggest that the link can be generally reproduced. Therefore, the late-winter North Atlantic tripole SST may act as a precursor for the prediction of spring LST over Western Eurasia.

Aralianudaside A, a triterpene saponin with an unusual skeleton of pentacyclic triterpenoid, along with a new triterpene glycoside and six known compounds were obtained from the buds of Aralia elata. Their structures were determined through extensive spectral analysis, including HRESIMS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, glycolysis and GC. All compounds were evaluated for anti-airway inflammatory activity in lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced airway epithelial cells (16HBE), compounds 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 significantly decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-4.

The Earth’s surface warming by external forcing depends on location. Warming amplification, or greater surface warming than the global average, occurs in the Arctic and high-elevation regions, including the Tibetan Plateau (TP). We examined the major drivers of TP warming amplification in recent decades (1979–2020) and under future climate scenarios (2061–2100) by applying local energy budget diagnosis of multiple radiative kernels based on state-of-the-art reanalysis datasets and coupled model simulations. From 1979–2020, both the snow-albedo feedback and cloud-radiation feedback strongly affected the seasonality of TP warming (summer vs. winter). Snow cover and albedo decreased significantly in winter but showed only small changes in summer. TP total and low-level cloud cover increased in summer, causing cooling, and decreased in winter, causing warming. During winter, TP warming amplification (1.84 from 1979–2020) is weaker than Arctic amplification (3.64) because the positive contribution of the surface albedo feedback to TP warming is not as strong as the dual warming effects of the lapse rate feedback and surface heat flux observed in the Arctic. Our attribution analyses based on the piControl and Historical simulations of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 confirmed that TP warming is caused by external forcing. Because the external forcing associated with anthropogenic activity is increasing, TP warming will continue to the end of the 21st century. Under likely future warming scenarios, winter TP warming amplification is still less than in the Arctic due to the effects of the lapse rate feedback and surface heat flux.

How to realize the game equilibrium between bus and nontransit vehicle is a hot topic in the field of transit signal priority (TSP). To this end, a collaborative transit signal priority (Co-TSP) method is proposed. The core of Co-TSP is a two-objective optimization problem which takes the expected delays of buses and the average delays of nontransit vehicles as the objectives. Different from previous studies, Co-TSP uses game theory to realize collaborative optimization, instead of transforming the problem into a single objective optimization problem by weighting. A finite state machine-based algorithm is developed to estimate the average delays of nontransit vehicles. The stochasticity of bus arrival time is also considered in the estimation of bus delays to improve the robustness. Candidate timing plans obtained by the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA) are divided into three priority levels based on the delays of buses. The final timing plans can be picked intuitively from the candidates by rules representing expert knowledge and demands to control the priority level. Co-TSP guarantees theoretically by preliminary screening that the expected delays of bus after optimization must be no higher than that before optimization. Simulation experiments are conducted in Shanghai, China, to verify the performance. Results show that Co-TSP reduces the delays of buses by 27.7%∼41.0% and still performs well under low and high congestion levels, while the conventional TSP (CTSP) fails in some cases. Priority control proves to be effective at last. The research provides a new idea for the benefit allocation among participants at intersections.

Substantial evidence shows that childhood maltreatment and sleep duration play important roles in the development of suicide. However, the role of sleep duration in the relationship between childhood maltreatment and suicide behaviors, including suicide ideation, plan and attempt, was not fully understood. This study investigated the association among childhood maltreatment, sleep duration and suicide behaviors.13,454 students from a polytechnic college in Shenzhen of China participated in this cross-sectional study. Multivariate logistic regression model was established to analyze the relationship among childhood maltreatment, sleep duration and suicide behaviors.The most reported subtype of childhood maltreatment was physical neglect, which were reported by 41.57 % of males, 28.59 % of females. The positive association of physical abuse with suicide behaviors was observed. In females, emotional abuse and neglect were positively associated with suicide behaviors. In addition, almost all childhood maltreatment was significantly associated to decreased sleep duration. Moreover, compared to the sleep duration6 h group, sleep duration was inversely associated to suicide behaviors.Childhood maltreatment was positively associated with suicide ideation, plan and attempt in Chinese young adults. Meanwhile, childhood maltreatment was negatively associated with sleep duration, which were negatively associated with suicide ideation, plan and attempt.

Background. Anemia in children is still an important public problem in China and can have a profound impact on the physical and mental health of children. The purpose of this study was to explore the risk factors for anemia among Chinese children aged 3–7 years old and to provide some basis for the prevention and control of anemia. Methods. A matched case-control study was conducted and 1104 children (552 cases and 552 controls) were recruited in this study. Cases were children who were diagnosed with anemia by the doctor of physical examination and checked by one deputy chief physician of pediatrics, and controls were healthy children without anemia. Data were collected using a self-designed structured questionnaire. Univariable and multivariable analyses were used to identify independent determinants of anemia. P values less than 0.05 were used to declare statistical significance. Results. In the multivariable analyses, maternal anemia before or during pregnancy and lactation (OR = 2.14, 95% CI: 1.10∼4.15; OR = 2.86, 95% CI: 1.66∼4.94; OR = 2.51, 95% CI: 1.13∼5.60), gestational weeks (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.53∼0.96), having G6PD deficiency or thalassemia (OR = 8.12, 95% CI: 2.00∼33.04; OR = 36.25, 95% CI: 10.40∼126.43), having cold and cough in previous two weeks (OR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.04∼2.34), family income (OR = 0.80, 95% CI: 0.65∼0.97), and being a picky eater (OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.20∼2.71) were determinants of anemia in children aged 3–7 years old. Conclusions. Some of the identified factors are modifiable and could be targeted to reduce childhood anemia. More emphasis should be given by the concerned bodies to intervene in the anemia problem by improving the maternal health education, screening for disease-related anemia, requesting medical services in a timely manner, improving the economic status of households, promoting dietary habits, and improving sanitation and hygiene practices.

The far field directivity is a straightforward indicator to describe the radiation pattern of the audio sound generated by a parametric array loudspeaker (pal), but its accurate and computationally efficient prediction is still challenging at present. This paper derives two-dimensional (2D), three-dimensional (3D), and 3D axisymmetric convolution models for calculating the far field directivity based on the quasilinear solution of Westervelt equation. The obtained expressions are expressed as linear and spherical convolutions of the ultrasound directivity and Westervelt directivity for 2D and 3D models, respectively. To improve prediction accuracy, the obtained expression is multiplied by an effective directivity resulted from the aperture factor of audio sound. The calculated directivities are compared against the exact solution obtained using the cylindrical and spherical wave expansions for 2D and 3D models, respectively. Numerical results with piston, apodized, and steerable profiles in both 2D and 3D models show that the proposed modified convolution model agrees well with the exact solution. It is also found that sidelobes appear in the audio sound directivity at large aperture sizes and high audio frequencies due to the aperture factor of audio sound, which can be predicted with the proposed method with a relatively low computational expenditure.

Objective This study aims to evaluate the correlation combined fetal fraction and Z-score for fetal trisomies 13, 18, and 21 of NIPT by the semiconductor sequencing platform and further analyze the differences of different sequencing depths. Methods A cohort of 61,581 pregnancies were recruited for NIPT. Invasive prenatal diagnostic confirmation is recommended in all high-risk NIPT cases. Logistic regression and rank correlation analysis were applied to analyze the relationship between different parameters. ROC curve analysis was adopted to analyze the cutoff values of Z-score and fetal fraction. Results A total of 278 common trisomy pregnancies were verified in 377 NIPT-positive results. The fitted logistic regression models revealed that Z-scores of NIPT-positive results were significantly associated with PPVs (p the optimal cutoff value. Conclusion The results of this study show that the fetal fraction is significantly correlated with the PPV. Combining fetal fraction with Z-score is significantly better than in groups of Z-score-associated criteria; clinicians can give more accurate and efficient prenatal genetic counseling.

Compared to subcutaneous injections, oral administration of insulin would be a preferred route of drug administration for diabetic patients. For oral delivery, both liposomes and alginate hydrogels face many challenges, including early burst release of the encapsulated drug and poor intestinal drug absorption. Also, adhesion to the intestinal mucosa remains weak, which all result in a low bioavailability of the payload. This study reports on an alginate hydrogel loaded with liposomes for oral insulin administration. Liposomes (Lip) loaded with arginine-insulin complexes (AINS) were incorporated into a hydrogel prepared from cysteine modified alginate (Cys-Alg) to form liposome-in-alginate hydrogels (AINS-Lip-Gel). An ex vivo study proves that intestinal permeation of AINS and AINS-Lip is approximately 2.0 and 6.0-fold, respectively, higher than that of free insulin. The hydrogel retarded early release of insulin (∼30%) from the liposomes and enhanced the intestinal mucosal retention. In vivo experiments revealed that the AINS-Lip-Gel released insulin in a controlled manner and possessed strong hypoglycemic effects. We conclude that liposome-in-alginate hydrogels loaded with AINS represent an attractive strategy for the oral delivery of insulin.

Affected by global warming, glacial lake outburst events occur frequently on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Glacial lake outburst is characterized by large scale, sudden occurrence, danger and difficulty in prevention and control. Based on the remote sensing interpretation and field investigation of 29 glacial lakes in Luregou basin in the upper reaches of Yigongzangbu basin, four periods in 1976, 1988, 2001 and 2013, the development characteristics, distribution patterns and types of changes in glacial lakes were deeply analyzed. Factors such as changes in glacial lake area, terminal moraine dam, ice avalanche and ice landslides, and glacial lake types were selected to initially construct a rapid rating method for glacial lake outburst risk. Using this method, 29 glacial lake outburst risks were evaluated in Luregou Basin, and the evaluation results showed that the risks were large, medium and small in 5, 6 and 18 places respectively. Furthermore, the outburst mechanism and disaster effect of Ranzeriacuo glacial lake on July 5, 2013 were analyzed in detail.

Chitosan-based nanoparticles (CNPs) are widely used in drug delivery, cosmetics formulation and food applications. To accelerate the manufacturing of CNPs, the present study develops a workflow to prepare CNPs in a continuous model. Based on machine learning, the workflow precisely predicts size and polymer dispersity index (PDI) value of CNPs, which impacts on the colloidal stability and applications. Multi-inlet vortex mixer (MIVM) device was fabricated by 3D printing as the reactor. Peristaltic pump was applied to deliver the reaction streams into the MIVM device and produce CNPs by flash nanoprecipitation (FNP) in a continuous way. The developed MIVM device produces CNPs in a controlled manner at a higher output which is promising for upscale applications. Twelve machine learning algorithms were employed to investigate the potential relationship between the reaction independent variables and hydrodynamic characteristics of CNPs. Random Forest, Decision Tree, Extra Tree and Bagging algorithms performed better than other algorithms with the average prediction accuracy around 90 %. The current study demonstrated that supervised machine learning guided FNP using the developed MIVM device is an effective strategy for accurate and intelligent production of CNPs and other similar nanoparticles.

Visceral fat (VF) influences left ventricular (LV) structure and diastolic function in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, there are limited data on the association among them based on different BMI levels as well as accounting for arterial stiffness. This study investigated the association of fat distribution, arterial stiffness, left ventricular (LV) structure and diastolic function in T2DM patients.This cross-sectional study comprised 905 patients. VF area (VFA) and subcutaneous fat area (SFA) were assessed by a dual bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) was measured by a volume-plethysmographic apparatus and LV structure and diastolic function were echocardiography. Patients were divided into three groups based on BMI levels. Linear and logistic regression analysis were used to investigate the association.In multivariate linear regression, relative wall thickness (RWT) was negatively correlated with E/A in obese patients (β = -0.203, p = 0.004). LV mass/heightsup2.7/supwas positively correlated with E/E' in normal weight (β = 0.232, p = 0.002) and obese patients (β = 0.232, p = 0.008). In multivariate logistic regression, baPWV was an independent determinant of LV remodeling (LVRM) in normal weight (OR = 1.001; 95% CI, 1.000, 1.002; P = 0.006), overweight (OR = 1.001; 95% CI, 1.000, 1.002; P = 0.008) and obese groups (OR = 1.003; 95% CI, 1.001, 1.004; P = 0.001), while VFA was correlated with arterial stiffness in normal weight (OR = 1.032; 95% CI, 1.017, 1.047; P lt; 0.001) and overweight groups (OR = 1.011; 95% CI, 1.002, 1.021; P = 0.015).VF might impact LVRM through changes in baPWV in T2DM patients, thus influencing diastolic function.

Remote acoustic sensing can be used to estimate the error signals in human ears without placing any physical microphones there. In this paper, the coherence between the signals picked up by physical microphones over a sphere surface and the signal obtained at the sphere center is investigated. Based on the multiple channel coherence formulas in the time domain and frequency domain, the relationship between the coherence and the placement of physical microphones is analyzed by numerical simulations first, then the experimental results obtained in a reverberation chamber and a car cabin are presented to verify the simulation results. Finally, a placement of physical microphones for active control of road noise in car cabins is discussed. Both the numerical and experimental results show that an upper limit frequency exists for accurate sound pressure estimation at the center of a sphere with the sound pressure on the sphere surface. For a sufficiently complex sound field such as that in a reverberation room or in a car, half the wavelength of the upper limit frequency is about the average distance among the physical microphones.

Colon cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract, and approximately 80%–90% of colon cancers are colon adenocarcinomas (COADs). This study aimed to screen key microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with COAD. Differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs were screened between COAD and adjacent cancer samples based on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and the Cancer Genome Atlas obtained from datasets. The miRNAs of interest were validated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Moreover, the effects of hsa-miR-135b-5p on the biological behavior of COAD cells were observed. 1,5-pentanediamine (cadaverine) is a C5 platform chemical, also an important raw material for bio-polyamide PA5X. With increasing concerns about the depletion of fossil resources and global environmental protection, cadaverine bio-production has attracted more attentions.Here, a microbial consortium consisting of Corynebacterium glutamicum cgl-FDK and Escherichia coli BL-ABST-Spy was constructed to de novo synthesize cadaverine utilizing glycerol as the sole carbon resource. The glycerol utilization pathway was initially constructed in C. glutamicum cgl-FDK to produce lysine from glycerol. Then, the pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) biosynthesis pathway and SpyTag/SpyCatcher protein-ligation system for lysine decarboxylase (CadA) and cadaverine-lysine antiporter protein (CadB) were introduced into E. coli BL-ABST-Spy to synthesize cadaverine from lysine. Furthermore, the fermentation conditions of microbial consortium were optimized and the cadaverine production reached 9.3 g/L with glycerol as the sole carbon source.This work provides a promising strategy for efficiently producing cadaverine from glycerol with an artificial microbial consortium.

Pullulan-based composite films incorporated with bacterial cellulose (BC) and ferulic acid (FA) were prepared by solution casting method. The rheological, morphological, barrier, optical, anti-fogging, and antioxidant properties of pullulan-based composite films doped with BC and FA were investigated. The rheological results showed that all film-forming solution was pseudoplastic fluid and its viscosity increased with the increase of BC content. An appropriate BC (2 %) and FA were uniformly dispersed in pullulan to form uniform and dense composite films. With the increase of BC content, the roughness and opacity of composite films increased while their UV-vis barrier performance was improved by incorporating BC and FA. Fourier transform infrared spectrometer analysis demonstrated that hydrogen bond interactions among pullulan, BC, and FA were found, and incorporating BC could increase the crystallinity of the composite films, thus enhancing their mechanical, barrier, hydrophobic, and thermal stability properties. Pullulan-based composite films incorporated with 2 % BC and FA (P-BC2-FA) showed better mechanical properties, water, oxygen, and carbon dioxide barrier performances, and its water contact angle value also increased compared with control, respectively. P-BC2-FA film showed superior anti-fogging and antioxidant activities. These results indicate that the P-BC2-FA film are expected to be a potential target of bioactive packaging.

Alginate zinc hydrogel loaded with zinc insulin hexamer was prepared and characterized for oral insulin administration. The hydrogel was fabricated by dripping zinc insulin hexamer into sodium alginate solution and followed by crosslinking by zinc chloride. SEM image reveals the zinc insulin hexamer was integrated into the matrix of hydrogel. Zinc insulin hexamer loaded hydrogel shows no obvious cytotoxicity to both HT29 and Caco-2 cells. The developed hydrogel retards the burst release of insulin in simulated gastric fluid but promotes the release when in simulated intestinal fluid. In the diabetic mice, zinc insulin hexamer loaded alginate hydrogel demonstrates significant and prolonged hypoglycemic effect.

A steerable parametric array loudspeaker (PAL) can electronically steer highly directional audio beams in the desired direction. The challenge of modelling a steerable PAL is to obtain the audio sound pressure in both near and far fields with a low computational load. To address this issue, an extension of the spherical wave expansion is proposed in this paper. The steerable velocity profile on the radiation surface is expanded as Zernike polynomials which are an orthogonal and form a complete set over a unit circle. An expression for the radiated audio sound is then obtained using a superposition of Zernike modes. Compared to the existing methods, the proposed expansion is computationally efficient and provides a rigorous transformation of the quasilinear solution of the Westervelt equation without paraxial approximations. The proposed expansion is further extended to accommodate local effects by using an algebraic correction to the Westervelt equation. Numerical results for steering single and dual beams are presented and discussed. It is shown that the single beam can be steered in the desired direction in both near and far fields. However, dual beams cannot be well separated in the near field, which cannot be predicted by the existing far field models.

Exploring the premonsoonal land thermal predictor of the Indian summer monsoon is a hot topic under the background of global warming, and West Asia is one of the regions with the most significant warming in spring. In this study, we investigated the impact of anomalous spring land surface warming over West Asia on early summer (June) Indian monsoon precipitation as well as its possible mechanisms based on statistical analysis and numerical simulations. It has been found that spring land surface anomalous warming over West Asia corresponds to the enhancement of the leading mode of early summer precipitation in the Indian subcontinent, especially in its northern part. Further analysis indicates that an anomalously warm land surface over West Asia can advance the transition of atmospheric conditions toward the warm season by heating the atmosphere above. The increased land–sea meridional thermal contrast favors the intensification of the low-level jet and monsoon trough, further inducing anomalous moisture convergence and ascending motion over northern India. Additionally, the heat-driven anomalous upper-tropospheric anticyclone over West Asia favors the intensification of the tropical easterly jet and the northwestward development of the South Asian high (SAH). The enhanced SAH dynamically couples with the lower- to middle-level cyclonic circulation over northern India, resulting in a stronger monsoon and increased precipitation. These findings are helpful for better understanding and prediction of Indian early summer monsoon. Significance Statement The land surface thermal condition is critical to the monsoon activity and exploring the premonsoonal land thermal predictor of Indian summer monsoon remains a hot topic. The purpose of this study is to explore how spring land surface thermal anomalies over West Asia impact Indian monsoon activity in early summer (June). The anomalous land surface warming over West Asia can lead to a stronger Indian monsoon in early summer by heating and driving the atmosphere, which benefits the precipitation increase over northern India. Our results provide a further scientific basis for the prediction of early summer Indian precipitation.
