Two new heterometallic uranyl-organic frameworks (UOFs), [Cd(phen)2(H2O)2][(UO2)2(BDC)3]·2H2O (1) and [Ni(phen)3][(UO2)2(BDC)3]·2H2O (2), were obtained under hydrothermal conditions. Both crystal structures were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and the results indicate that both complexes feature a similar 2D honeycomb framework that is connected by rigid benzenedicarboxylate (BDC) ligands and uranyl units. BDC works as a linker to bridge neighboring UO22+ units, where UO22+ is tris-chelated. Different guest molecules guided the stacking of 2D layers and lead into their 3D supramolecular crystal structures with different space groups. As a result, 1 crystallized in a polar space group Cc, whereas 2 belongs to a chiral space group P6122. Thermogravimetric measurements were performed to study their thermal stability. UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy measurements indicate an experimental optical bandgap of 3.87 eV and 3.63 eV, respectively, for 1 and 2. Luminescent studies of both samples show strong green light emissions.

In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) photodetector based on a single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) and graphene heterojunction has been fabricated by a self-rolled-up process. In the designed structure, graphene acted as the conductive channel and SWCNTs absorbed the incident light ranging from the visible to near-infrared bands. Compared to planar (two-dimensional, 2D) devices, 3D microcavities provided a natural resonant cavity to enhance the optical field, which improved the photoresponsivity. Phytohormone signalling pathways have an important role in defence against pathogens mediated by cell-surface pattern recognition receptors and intracellular nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat class immune receptors

Traditionally, dengue is controlled by fogging, and the prime location for the control measure is at the patient's residence. However, when Malaysia was hit by the first wave of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and the government-imposed movement control order, dengue cases have decreased by more than 30% from the previous year. This implies that residential areas may not be the prime locations for dengue-infected mosquitoes. The existing early warning system was focused on temporal prediction wherein the lack of consideration for spatial component at the microlevel and human mobility were not considered. Thus, we developed MozzHub, which is a web-based application system based on the bipartite network-based dengue model that is focused on identifying the source of dengue infection at a small spatial level (400 m) by integrating human mobility and environmental predictors. The model was earlier developed and validated; therefore, this study presents the design and implementation of the MozzHub system and the results of a preliminary pilot test and user acceptance of MozzHub in six district health offices in Malaysia. It was found that the MozzHub system is well received by the sample of end-users as it was demonstrated as a useful (77.4%), easy-to-operate system (80.6%), and has achieved adequate client satisfaction for its use (74.2%).

This study demonstrates the use of visual and oxide analyses to identify the cause of an actual electrical fire. Three severely oxidised electric oil-filled heaters and heating elements located at different locations were discovered in the debris of a megamall fire. According to visual analysis, the steel fins exhibited signs of overheating and the presence of large amounts of iron oxidation, denoting that the fins were the probable ignition source. Metallographic analysis showed that oxidation inside the oil-filled heaters at the fire site was also severe. Moreover, the temperature-dependent wear of the metal parts provided new evidence about the exposure temperature of the fire. The microstructure of the oxide scale of metallic materials was also temperature dependent, indicating that metallurgical characterisation will greatly complement conventional evidence collection by way of macroscopic visual examination.

The production of large-area twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) with controllable angles is a prerequisite for proceeding with its massive applications. However, most of the prevailing strategies to fabricate twisted bilayers face great challenges, where the transfer methods are easily stuck by interfacial contamination, and direct growth methods lack the flexibility in twist-angle design. Here we develop an effective strategy to grow centimetre-scale TBG with arbitrary twist angles (accuracy,1.0°). The success in accurate angle control is realized by an angle replication from two prerotated single-crystal Cu(111) foils to form a Cu/TBG/Cu sandwich structure, from which the TBG can be isolated by a custom-developed equipotential surface etching process. The accuracy and consistency of the twist angles are unambiguously illustrated by comprehensive characterization techniques, namely, optical spectroscopy, electron microscopy, photoemission spectroscopy and photocurrent spectroscopy. Our work opens an accessible avenue for the designed growth of large-scale two-dimensional twisted bilayers and thus lays the material foundation for the future applications of twistronics at the integration level.

Paleopalynology evidence and megafossil records indicated that tree fern order Cyatheales, played an important role in Mesozoic terrestrial ecosystem. Few fossil records of the family Thyrsopteridaceae have been reported so far. In the present study, we describe a distinctive fertile pinnule segment of a fern plant preserved in a mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar. The well-preserved fertile pinnule is identified as a new species of the extant tree fern genus Thyrsopteris (Thyrsopteridaceae): Thyrsopteris cyathindusia n. sp. It represents the second fossil species of Thyrsopteridaceae found in the mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar. The new species shows distinctive characteristics of the sporophyll that are considered paleoecologically/paleobiogeographically significant for evolution of the Thyrsopteridaceae.

In order to understand the law of solute transport in the unsaturated zone, this paper selects a beach of the Yellow River in jiaozuo area as the study area, and uses Hydrus software to simulate some typical hydrochemical ions in the unsaturated zone. The Hydrus software is a numerical model developed by the National Saline soil Improvement Center in 1991 for simulating water, energy and solute transport in variably saturated porous media. Hydrus-1d is a one-dimensional version of the Hydrus software, which is commonly used to simulate water and solutes. The results show that Hydrus-1D can simulate the study area well with a high degree of fitting. Due to agricultural activities around the simulated area, the actual value of Cl- is higher than the simulated value.

The chiral charge density wave is a many-body collective phenomenon in condensed matter that may play a role in unconventional superconductivity and topological physics. Two-dimensional chiral charge density waves provide the building blocks for the fabrication of various stacking structures and chiral homostructures, in which physical properties such as chiral currents and the anomalous Hall effect may emerge. Here, we demonstrate the phase manipulation of two-dimensional chiral charge density waves and the design of in-plane chiral homostructures in 1T-TaS2. We use chiral Raman spectroscopy to directly monitor the chirality switching of the charge density wave—revealing a temperature-mediated reversible chirality switching. We find that interlayer stacking favours homochirality configurations, which is confirmed by first-principles calculations. By exploiting the interlayer chirality-locking effect, we realise in-plane chiral homostructures in 1T-TaS2. Our results provide a versatile way to manipulate chiral collective phases by interlayer coupling in layered van der Waals semiconductors.

Background Cat-scratch disease usually manifests with uveitis, vitritis, retinitis, retinochoroiditis and optic neuritis, yet, with fundus nodular lesions rarely reported. In our study, we report a case of Cat-Scratch disease with binocular fundus nodular lesions. Case presentation An 11-year old male presented with uveitis (right eye) and binocular fundus nodular lesions after indirect contact with unvaccinated cats. Ancillary examinations (Wide-angle fundus photography, Ultrasonography, Fluorescein fundus angiography, Optical coherence tomography and Orbital Magnetic Resonance Imaging) were conducted to describe the multidimensional features of the binocular lesions. Metagenomics next-generation sequencing confirmed the diagnosis of Cat-scratch disease. The patient’s condition improved after 6-month combination treatment of systemical doxycycline hyclat and methylprednisolone tablets plus local mydriatic and corticosteroid eye drops. Conclusions We firstly reported a case simultaneously combined with uveitis and binocular fundus nodular lesions secondary to infection of Bartonella henselae in a child. Timely diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics and corticosteroids could improve the prognosis of these disorders.

Phytoene synthase (PSY) as the key rate-limiting enzyme in carotenoid metabolism can be regulated by various regulators and factors. We found that DsPSY1 played a dominant role in carotenogenesis in the β-carotene-accumulating Dunaliella salina , and two amino acid residues critical in the substrate binding were associated with the functional variance between DsPSY1 and DsPSY2.

Background : The aim of the present study was to introduce a novel three-dimensional computed tomography (3DCT)-based three-column classification (named “MLP classification system”) of intertrochanteric fracture, and evaluate its reproducibility and reliability. Methods : From September 2020 to September 2022, a total of 258 consecutive patients (60 male, 198 female; mean age 81.3 years) with intertrochanteric fracture were included in this study. The fracture in each case was assessed using a novel three-dimension computed tomography-based three-column classification. Two examiners tested the intra and inter-observer reliability of this new classification system using kappa variance. Results : Intertrochanteric region was divided into medial column, lateral column and posterior column. Intertrochanteric fractures were documented as M0/1/2L0/1/2/3P0/1/2/3. All fractures were classifiable into the new classification system. The intra and inter-observer kappa value were 0.91 and 0.82 respectively, indicating almost perfect reliability. Conclusion : This novel 3DCT-based MLP classification system for intertrochanteric fractures is comprehensive, reproducible with good agreement. It is based on proximal femur biomechanic characteristics and traumatic mechanism, contributing to formulate more reasonable treatment protocols involving various late-model internal fixation systems.

Gefitinib (Iressa, ZD1839) is a selective epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor that can block growth factor-mediated cell proliferation and extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1/2 (ERK1/2) activation. High-level Rad51 expression has been reported in chemoresistant or radioresistant carcinomas. In this study, we examined the role of Rad51 in regulating the response to gefitinib among different human lung cancer cell lines. The H520 line (human squamous cell carcinoma) was less sensitive to gefitinib compared with the H1650 (human adenocarcinoma) or A549 (human bronchioloalveolar carcinoma) lines. In H1650 and A549 cells but not in H520 cells, gefitinib decreased cellular levels of phospho-ERK1/2 and Rad51 protein and message levels. Moreover, gefitinib decreased Rad51 protein levels by enhancing Rad51 protein instability through 26S proteasome-mediated degradation. Inhibition of endogenous Rad51 levels by si-Rad51 RNA transfection significantly enhanced gefitinib-induced cytotoxicity. In contrast, transfection with constitutively active MKK1 vector could restore both Rad51 protein levels and cell survival inhibited by gefitinib. The MKK1/2-ERK1/2 signaling pathway constitutes the upstream signaling for maintaining Rad51 message and protein levels. Rad51 protein can protect lung cancer cells from cytotoxic effects induced by gefitinib. Suppression of Rad51 may be a novel lung cancer therapeutic modality to overcome drug resistance to gefitinib. Angiogenesis occurred after myocardial infarction (MI) protects heart failure (HF). The aim of our study was to explore function of histone methyltransferase KMT2D (MLL4, mixed-lineage leukemia 4) in angiogenesis post-MI. Western blotting showed that KMT2D protein expression was elevated in MI mouse myocardial. Cardiomyocyte-specific Kmt2d-knockout (Kmt2d-cKO) mice were generated, and echocardiography and immunofluorescence staining detected significantly attenuated cardiac function and insufficient angiogenesis following MI in Kmt2d-cKO mice. Cross-talk assay suggested that Kmt2d-KO H9c2-derived conditioned medium attenuates EA.hy926 EC function. ELISA further identified that VEGF-A released from Kmt2d-KO H9c2 was significantly reduced. CUT&Tag and RT-qPCR revealed that KMT2D deficiency reduced Vegf-a mRNA expression and enrichment of H3K4me1 on the Vegf-a promoter. Moreover, KMT2D silencing in ECs also suppressed endothelial function. Our study indicates that KMT2D depletion in both cardiomyocytes and ECs attenuates angiogenesis and that loss of KMT2D exacerbates heart failure after MI in mice.

Metal halide perovskites possess intriguing optoelectronic properties, however, the lack of precise control of on-chip fabrication of the large-scale perovskite single crystal arrays restricts its application in integrated devices. Here, we report a space confinement and antisolvent-assisted crystallization method for the homogeneous perovskite single crystal arrays spanning 100 square centimeter areas. This method enables precise control over the crystal arrays, including different array shapes and resolutions with less than 10%-pixel position variation, tunable pixel dimensions from 2 µm to 8 µm as well as the in-plane rotation of each pixel. The crystal pixel could serve as a high-quality whispering gallery mode microcavity with a quality factor of 2915 and a threshold of 4.14 µJ/cm2. Through directly on-chip fabrication on the patterned electrodes, a vertical structured photodetector array is demonstrated with stable photoswitching behavior and the capability to image the input patterns, indicating the potential application in the integrated systems of this method.

New hybrids constructed from diphenyliodonium and metal thiocyanates have been prepared, and their photo-induced structural transformations and corresponding color/fluorescence/magnetism variations have been investigated.

Despite the substantial potential of focused ultrasound therapy, its efficacy in cancer therapy has been limited due to the high cavitation threshold and safety concerns regarding the use of high-intensity energy pulses. Here, ultrasmall Au nanodot-loaded PEG-modified perfluorocarbon nanodroplets (Au-PFCnDs) were prepared and used as a therapeutic enhancer. A LFSI method was designed to achieve enhanced tumor ablation at a mild focused ultrasound (FUS) energy pulse with the assistance of the instinct photothermal effect of intratumor-permeable ultrasmall Au nanodots under 808 nm NIR laser irradiation. In addition to their therapeutic function, Au-PFCnDs can also generate multimodal images to provide information for tumor surveillance and treatment guidance. The experimental results also showed that the cRGD-targeted Au-PFCnDs could be more efficiently delivered into the tumor and selectively destroy tumors with no observable side effects on normal tissue under LFSI treatment.

The dimensionality of uranyl–organic frameworks can range from a neutral 1-D chain or a 2-D planar non-interpenetrated honeycomb layer to twofold interpenetrated (6,3) sheets, and complete or part quenching of uranyl luminescence can be achieved.

Acupuncture point specificity has been recognized as a key scientific issue in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), but there is limited clinical trial or animal study to verify the characteristics of PC6, BL15, and ST36 in the protection from myocardial injury. We aimed to compare the effects among these three acupoints on the acute myocardial infarction mice model and to explore possible mechanisms for the first time. We found that PC6 is the most appropriate acupoint to deliver efficacy and safety to treat acute MI in mice. BL15 stimulation improved the systolic function, but increased the risk of arrhythmia. ST36 only slightly attenuated systolic function and had no effect on arrhythmia during MI. RNA profiles of skin tissue in local acupoints demonstrated that the most altered DEGs and related pathways may partly support its best effects of PC6 treatment on MI injury, and support the observed phenomenon of the acupoint specificity. Background: Increasing evidence shows that miRNAs contribute to the establishment and development of obesity by affecting many biological and pathological processes, such as adipocyte differentiation, hepatic lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and neurological regulation of obesity. As a clinical intervention approach, acupuncture has been shown to be effective in the treatment of obesity and other metabolic diseases. Our previous whole genome study in central nervous system (CNS)-specific Stat5 knockout (NKO) obese mice found that electroacupuncture (EA) could reduce body weight and promote white browning. Objective: To clarify the effect of EA on miRNAs and understand how it regulates gene expression. Methods: Twelve-week-old male Stat5NKO mice with body weight 20% greater than that of Stat5fl/fl (control) mice were divided into a Stat5NKO (model) group and EA-treated Stat5NKO + EA group. A cohort of Stat5fl/fl mice of the same age were included as the control group. EA was administered under isoflurane anesthesia at unilateral ST36 and ST44 daily (left and right sides were treated every other day), 6 times per week for a total of 4 weeks. The miRNA profile was generated and miRNA regulatory networks were analyzed in the Stat5 nestin-cre mice before and after EA treatment. Autophagy-related proteins in adipocytes were detected after over-expression of miR27a. Results: EA altered abnormal miRNA expression, including miRNA27a expression, and reduced the autophagy-related proteins ATG5 and ATG12. Conclusion: We found that EA could regulate miRNA27a-mediated autophagy-related proteins and promote white fat browning, which may contribute to weight loss. To our knowledge, this is the first report of miRNAs potentially driving the effect of EA on white fat browning through the autophagy process.

It is a challenge to achieve flexibility in purely inorganic piezoelectric materials without organic support, and various thin film flexible inorganic piezoelectric materials has been developed recently. In this work, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) nanofiber membranes were prepared by electrospinning, and a flexible membranes can be obtained by reducing the calcination temperature, and the flexibility was characterized by the three-point method. The fiber membrane was relatively thicker in relative to thin films and confirmed to adsorb Congo Red quickly under the action of ultrasound. The maximum adsorption capacity is 61.78 mg g−1 and saturation time reaches 20 min under ultrasound treatment. In addition, the color change after saturation adsorption can quickly determine the actual load of the fiber membrane. In the future, this load saturation effect can be used to calibrate the relationship between the piezoelectric signal and the adsorption load, so as to obtain more accurate chemical sensors.

Shikonin (Shik), a natural pigment, has received growing interest in various biomedical fields due to its anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antimicrobial, and antioxidant ability. However, some inherent characteristics of Shik, such as its virulence, low bioavailability, and poor solubility, have limited its biomedical applicability. Here, we reported a facile synthetic method to produce the Shik-iron (III) nanoparticles (Shik-Fe NPs), which could overcome these limitations of Shik. The synthesized Shik-Fe NPs possessed a uniform size range of 110 ± 10 nm, negative surface charges, good water dispersity, and high safety. Iron distributed uniformly inside Shik-Fe NPs, and iron constituted 20% of total mass in PEGylated Shik-Fe NPs. When interacting with activated macrophages, Shik-Fe NPs significantly reduced the level of cellular inflammatory factors, for example, iNOS, IL-1β, and TNF-α. Objective: The aims of this retrospective study were to investigate and evaluate the safety and efficacy of three approaches for closure of secundum atrial septal defect (ASD). Methods: In this study, we reviewed clinical data for transcatheter occlusion (TCO, n=63), transthoracic occlusion (TTO, n=55), and right anterolateral minithoracotomy (RALT, n=60) techniques used for ASD closure. The work described the effect of soldering 6061 Al by soldering coating with/without two step ultrasonic process, based on Sn9Zn alloy prepared by high frequency melting and rapid solidification. The microstructure, interfacial morphology, shear strength and mechanical morphology of 6061 aluminum alloy soldered joints were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the ultrasonic soldering with coating by two step ultrasonic process technology could greatly improve the morphology of the joints and refine the grain size. The solder layer with larger scallop shape was transformed into a dense fine structure. After two step ultrasonic effect, the width of the joint was about 28% higher than that under the first ultrasonic process. The Zn-rich phase length decreased from an average of 90 µm to an average of 25 µm, about 27% of the original length. The refinement of solder seam was related to the additional dissolved Al and IMC particles. The refinement mechanism was mainly sono-crystallization + sono-fragmentation with two step ultrasonic effect, which was different from the refinement mechanisms of the first ultrasonic effect with sono-crystallization. At the same time, the shear strength of 6061 aluminum alloy joints bonded at low temperature could reach 230 MPa by two step ultrasonic effect. Compared with the ultrasonic soldering with coating, the hardness and maximum strength were improved by 14.5% and 28%, respectively.
