We consider a supersymmetric mirror Twin Higgs model in a gravity-mediated supersymmetry-breaking scenario. We point out that the Polonyi field can be odd under the $Z_{2}$ symmetry exchanging the Standard Model with the mirror sector while gaugino masses are generated at tree-level. We discuss the dynamics of the Polonyi field during and after inflation and show that the Polonyi problem is absent. The Polonyi field couples to the two sectors with opposite signs, which may serve as origin of the $Z_{2}$-breaking of the Higgs potential in Twin Higgs models. We present a QCD axion model where the couplings of the axion to nucleons, electrons, and muons are naturally suppressed because of the appropriate choice of the Peccei-Quinn charges of the Standard Model fermions. We reexamine next-to-leading order corrections to the couplings of the axion with nucleons and photons and show that the axion decay constant may be as small as $10^7$ GeV. It is also possible to suppress the coupling with the photon so that the decay constant is even smaller and minimal axiogenesis works. In this scenario, the axion has a mass above 1 eV and may be directly detected via absorption of axion dark matter. Flavor-violating axion couplings are generically predicted in our model, but we show that they may be naturally and sufficiently suppressed. We propose a baryogenenesis mechanism that uses a rotating condensate of a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry breaking field and the dimension-five operator that gives Majorana neutrino masses. The rotation induces charge asymmetries for the Higgs boson and for lepton chirality through sphaleron processes and Yukawa interactions. The dimension-five interaction transfers these asymmetries to the lepton asymmetry, which in turn is transferred into the baryon asymmetry through the electroweak sphaleron process. QCD axion dark matter can be simultaneously produced by dynamics of the same PQ field via kinetic misalignment or parametric resonance, favoring an axion decay constant fa ≲ 1010 GeV, or by conventional misalignment and contributions from strings and domain walls with fa ∼ 1011 GeV. The size of the baryon asymmetry is tied to the mass of the PQ field. In simple supersymmetric theories, it is independent of UV parameters and predicts the supersymmtry breaking mass scale to be $$ \mathcal{O} $$ O (10 − 104) TeV, depending on the masses of the neutrinos and whether the condensate is thermalized during a radiation or matter dominated era. The high supersymmetry breaking mass scale may be free from cosmological and flavor/CP problems. We also construct a theory where TeV scale supersymmetry is possible. Parametric resonance may give warm axions, and the radial component of the PQ field may give signals in rare kaon decays from mixing with the Higgs and in dark radiation.

The simplest mirror twin Higgs (MTH) model — where a Z2 symmetry copies each SM particle — has too many relativistic degrees of freedom to be consistent with cosmological observations. We demonstrate that MTH models can have an observationally viable cosmology if the twin mass spectrum leads to twin neutrino decoupling before the SM and twin QCD phase transitions. Our solution requires the twin photon to have a mass of ∼ 20 MeV and kinetically mix with the SM photon to mediate entropy transfer from the twin sector to the SM. This twin photon can be robustly discovered or excluded by future experiments. Additionally, the residual twin degrees of freedom present in the early Universe in this scenario would be detectable by future observations of the cosmic microwave background.

We propose a mechanism called axiogenesis where the cosmological excess of baryons over antibaryons is generated from the rotation of the QCD axion. The Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry may be explicitly broken in the early universe, inducing the rotation of a PQ charged scalar field. The rotation corresponds to the asymmetry of the PQ charge, which is converted into the baryon asymmetry via QCD and electroweak sphaleron transitions. We consider an initial condition problem in a nearly quadratic chaotic inflation model in supergravity. We introduce shift symmetry breaking not only in the superpotential but also in the Kahler potential. In this model the inflaton potential is nearly quadratic for inflaton field values around the Planck scale, but deviates from the quadratic one for larger field values. As a result, the prediction on the tensor-to-scalar ratio can be smaller than that of a purely quadratic model. Due to the shift symmetry breaking in the Kahler potential, the inflaton potential becomes steep for large inflaton field values, which may prevent inflation from naturally taking place in a closed universe. We estimate an upper bound on the magnitude of the shift symmetry breaking so that inflation takes place before a closed universe with a Planck length size collapses, which yields a lower bound on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r \mathop{}_{\textstyle \sim}^{\textstyle >} 0.1$., 11 pages, 6 figures

In supersymmetric theories, the $R$ symmetry plays a unique role in suppressing a constant term in the superpotential. In single chiral field models of spontaneous breaking of a discrete $R$ symmetry, an $R$-breaking field can be a good candidate for an inflaton in new inflation models. In this paper, we revisit the compatibility of the single-field $R$-breaking new inflation model with the results of the Planck experiment. As a result, we find that the model predicts a lower limit on the gravitino mass, $m_{3/2}>O(100)$ TeV. This lower limit is consistent with the observed Higgs mass of 126 GeV when the masses of the stops are of order the gravitino mass scale., 22 pages, 7 figures

The axion solution to the strong CP problem calls for an explanation as to why the Lagrangian should be invariant under the global Peccei-Quinn symmetry, U(1)_PQ, to such a high degree of accuracy. In this paper, we point out that the U(1)_PQ can indeed survive as an accidental symmetry in the low-energy effective theory, if the standard model gauge group is supplemented by a gauged and discrete R symmetry, Z_N^R, forbidding all dangerous operators that explicitly break the Peccei-Quinn symmetry. In contrast to similar approaches, the requirement that the Z_N^R symmetry be anomaly-free forces us, in general, to extend the supersymmetric standard model by new matter multiplets. Surprisingly, we find a large landscape of viable scenarios that all individually fulfill the current experimental constraints on the QCD vacuum angle as well as on the axion decay constant. In particular, choosing the number of additional multiplets appropriately, the order N of the Z_N^R symmetry can take any integer value larger than 2. In this paper, we consider phenomenology of a model with an $L_��-L_��$ gauge symmetry. Since the muon couples to the $L_��-L_��$ gauge boson (called $Z''$ boson), its contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment (muon g-2) can account for the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and the experimental measurements. On the other hand, the $Z''$ boson does not interact with the electron and quarks, and hence there are no strong constraints from collider experiments even if the $Z''$ boson mass is of the order of the electroweak scale. We show an allowed region of a parameter space in the $L_��-L_��$ symmetric model, taking into account consistency with the electroweak precision measurements as well as the muon g-2. We study the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) phenomenology, and show that the current and future data would probe the interesting parameter space for this model., 26 pages, 12 figures
