This project aims to identify the most optimal, concise, and valid assessments of several individual difference variables. These include one's experiences with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, psychological distress, anxiety, depression, grit, and emotion regulation. We will rely on two steps to achieve our aim: 1.) Use statistical analyses to explore whether it is possible to shorten existing scales in a manner that does not compromise their validity and reliability. 2.) Compare the psychometric properties of various existing measures developed to identify the same construct, as well the correlations among these, in order to better understand which of the existing scales may prove most useful among the general (rather than clinical) population.

A male in his 70s presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset abdominal pain and syncope. While in the emergency department, he developed worsening hypotension and anaemia. A CT angiogram was suggestive of abdominal apoplexy (spontaneous intraperitoneal haemorrhage), which was treated successfully with embolisation of the bleeding vessels. Spontaneous bleeding was thought to be related to his initiation of apixaban 1 week previously. The patient made an excellent recovery and was transitioned back to oral anticoagulation.

Objectives. To test the effects of countermarketing videos addressing common misperceptions about ingredients and claims on children’s sugary drinks. Methods. We conducted an online randomized controlled experiment in January 2021 with US caregivers (n = 600) of young children (aged 8‒37 months) to assess the effects of watching countermarketing versus control videos on intentions to serve sugary and healthy drinks (6-point scales) and attitudes (10-point scales) about fruit drinks and toddler milks. Results. The countermarketing videos significantly reduced positive attitudes about fruit drinks (mean difference = 0.92) and toddler milks (mean difference = 2.10), reduced intentions to serve both (mean difference = 0.50 and 0.92, respectively), and increased intentions to serve plain milk (mean difference = 0.52) versus control videos (all Ps Conclusions. A countermarketing campaign aimed at diverse caregivers of young children designed to correct misleading children’s drink marketing presents a promising public health approach for reducing sugary drink consumption in the first 1000 days. In the complex practices of development, ethical decisions are continually demanded of practitioners. This paper addresses the process of teaching ethics, within a framework of applied ethics and with an emphasis on the development of an understanding of ethics-in-practice in current and future practitioners. Building on recent work in the area of ethics in development and humanitarian practice, it addresses approaches to teaching professional ethics in community development and other fields, and debates about the value of teaching ethics. In particular, this article discusses how students develop what we call ‘ethical capability’—the cognitive and emotional resources needed to negotiate the contradictions and dilemmas of everyday practice, and to apply ethical decision-making models. Analysing a current post-graduate applied development ethics course and experience of similar courses in undergraduate business, we investigate how these can prepare students for the messy reality of community development practice. With very few courses teaching ethics in development, we propose that it is important to enhance ethical capability in community development students and practitioners, and that doing so supports their work and wellbeing.

There are few educational programs in the United States that have a primary focus on preparing nurses to engage in all levels of public health, health policy, and climate change. The United Nations sustainability development goals (SDG) and the Future of Nursing 2020–2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity (2021) report underscored the importance of key stakeholders, including nurses, engaging in advocacy and policy to promote health equity. We discuss the role of nursing at the intersection of public health, policy, climate change, and the SDG. We also discuss the history and merger of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing public health and health policy specialties, a significant innovation in our effort to promote health equity. We provide a brief overview of the redesigning of our curriculum that meets the needs of today’s learners by including content on climate change, data analytics, and racial, social, and environmental justice. Finally, we emphasize the need to train the next cadre of nurses interested in careers in public health and health policy for us to meet the challenges facing our communities. A man in his 30s with a history of cocaine and intranasal heroin use presented to the emergency department with severe leg pain and weakness. Physical examination findings were significant for tachycardia, absence of dorsalis pedis pulses, tense and painful calf muscles along with absence of plantar reflexes in bilateral lower extremities. Laboratory investigations were significant for positive urinary drug screen for cocaine, severe rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. Given the absence of dorsalis pedis pulses in bilateral lower extremities and radiological evidence of oedematous changes in calf muscles with perimuscular oedema, a diagnosis of compartment syndrome was made. He was treated with bilateral lower extremity four-compartment fasciotomies and haemodialysis for acute kidney injury. Rhabdomyolysis has been attributed to cocaine use; however, compartment syndrome is a very rare complication, especially in the absence of trauma or prolonged immobilisation.

Stroke has become increasingly common with the rise in hyperlipidaemia, hypertension and other metabolic disorders. In this case, a 69-year-old man with several weeks of non-specific symptoms and no history of metabolic disorders presents with unilateral weakness and supraventricular tachycardia. Kidney biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis. He responded well to rituximab infusions.

Purpose: To compare retrobulbar anesthesia injection (RAI) with hyaluronidase and without hyaluronidase in vitreoretinal surgery using clinical efficacy measures and orbital manometry (OM). Methods: This prospective randomized double-masked study enrolled patients who had surgery using an 8 mL RAI with or without hyaluronidase. Outcome measures were clinical block effectiveness (akinesia, pain scores, need for supplemental anesthetic or sedative medications) and orbital dynamics assessed by OM before and up to 5 minutes after RAI. Results: Twenty-two patients received RAI with hyaluronidase (Group H+), and 25 received RAI without hyaluronidase (Group H−). Baseline characteristics were well matched. No differences in clinical efficacy were found. OM showed no difference in preinjection orbital tension (4 ± 2 mm Hg in both groups) or calculated orbital compliance (0.6 ± 0.3 mL/mm Hg, Group H+; 0.5 ± 0.2 mL/mm Hg, Group H−) ( P = .13). After RAI, the peak orbital tension was 23 ± 15 mm Hg in Group H+ and 24 ± 9 mm Hg in Group H− ( P = .67); it declined more rapidly in Group H+. Orbital tension at 5 minutes was 6 ± 3 mm Hg in Group H+ and 11 ± 5 mm Hg in Group H− ( P = .0008). Conclusions: OM showed faster resolution of post-RAI orbital tension elevation with hyaluronidase; however, there were no clinically evident differences between groups. Thus, 8 mL RAI with or without hyaluronidase is safe and can achieve excellent clinical results. Our data do not support the routine use of hyaluronidase with RAI.

Cancers often overexpress multiple clinically relevant oncogenes, but it is not known if combinations of oncogenes in cellular subpopulations within a cancer influence clinical outcomes. Using quantitative multispectral imaging of the prognostically relevant oncogenes MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), we show that the percentage of cells with a unique combination MYC+BCL2+BCL6− (M+2+6−) consistently predicts survival across four independent cohorts (n = 449), an effect not observed with other combinations including M+2+6+. We show that the M+2+6− percentage can be mathematically derived from quantitative measurements of the individual oncogenes and correlates with survival in IHC (n = 316) and gene expression (n = 2,521) datasets. Comparative bulk/single-cell transcriptomic analyses of DLBCL samples and MYC/BCL2/BCL6-transformed primary B cells identify molecular features, including cyclin D2 and PI3K/AKT as candidate regulators of M+2+6− unfavorable biology. Similar analyses evaluating oncogenic combinations at single-cell resolution in other cancers may facilitate an understanding of cancer evolution and therapy resistance. Significance: Using single-cell–resolved multiplexed imaging, we show that selected subpopulations of cells expressing specific combinations of oncogenes influence clinical outcomes in lymphoma. We describe a probabilistic metric for the estimation of cellular oncogenic coexpression from IHC or bulk transcriptomes, with possible implications for prognostication and therapeutic target discovery in cancer. Increased access to legalized non-medical cannabis has led to growing concern over the potential adverse health impacts of cannabis consumption among youth and emerging adults. This study explored emerging adult perceptions of cannabis consumption and if perceptions changed based on the age and sex of the cannabis consumer.Canadian emerging adults between the ages of 18 and 25 years (N = 1,424, Mean = 21.23) were randomly assigned to one of six vignettes that varied by age (14 years, 21 years, and 28 years) or sex (male, female) of the cannabis consumer. Participants were asked to rate seven single-item measures on perceived dangerousness, problematic consumption, negative impacts, and level of disapproval related to the vignette character's almost daily cannabis consumption.The results of seven 2 × 3 factorial analyses of variance revealed a main effect of age on six of seven items, no main effects of sex, and no interactions. Except for social life, participants noted significant differences in harms of cannabis consumption by 14-year-olds, compared to 21-year-olds and 28-year-olds. There were no significant differences in overall perceived dangerousness, problematic consumption, or impact on mental or cognitive health between 21-year-olds and 28-year-olds. Participants perceived cannabis consumption by a 21-year-old to be more harmful to brain development and reported greater disapproval than consumption by a 28-year-old.Emerging adults may appreciate the impacts of cannabis consumption within their age cohort on brain development and perceive greater risks for youth. Further education should focus on the potential cognitive and mental health impacts of cannabis in emerging adults.

Here, we report the stereocontrolled addition of α-amino radicals reductively generated from imines via visible-light-mediated photoredox-catalysis to alkenes, giving rise to enantioenriched α-trialkyl-α-tertiary amines. This process exploits a commercially available phenylglycinol derivative as a source of both nitrogen and chiral information. DFT studies support a stereochemical model whereby an intramolecular H-bond rigidifies the transition state of the enantiodetermining step.

Mucinous ovarian carcinoma (MOC) is a rare histotype of ovarian cancer, with low response rates to standard chemotherapy, and very poor survival for patients diagnosed at advanced stage. There is a limited understanding of the MOC immune landscape, and consequently whether immune checkpoint inhibitors could be considered for a subset of patients.We performed multicolor immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF) on tissue microarrays in a cohort of 126 MOC patients. Cell densities were calculated in the epithelial and stromal components for tumor-associated macrophages (CD68+/PD-L1+, CD68+/PD-L1-), T cells (CD3+/CD8-, CD3+/CD8+), putative T-regulatory cells (Tregs, FOXP3+), B cells (CD20+/CD79A+), plasma cells (CD20-/CD79a+), and PD-L1+ and PD-1+ cells, and compared these values with clinical factors. Univariate and multivariable Cox Proportional Hazards assessed overall survival. Unsupervised k-means clustering identified patient subsets with common patterns of immune cell infiltration.Mean densities of PD1+ cells, PD-L1- macrophages, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, and FOXP3+ Tregs were higher in the stroma compared to the epithelium. Tumors from advanced (Stage III/IV) MOC had greater epithelial infiltration of PD-L1- macrophages, and fewer PD-L1+ macrophages compared with Stage I/II cancers (p = 0.004 and p = 0.014 respectively). Patients with high epithelial density of FOXP3+ cells, CD8+/FOXP3+ cells, or PD-L1- macrophages, had poorer survival, and high epithelial CD79a + plasma cells conferred better survival, all upon univariate analysis only. Clustering showed that most MOC (86%) had an immune depleted (cold) phenotype, with only a small proportion (11/76,14%) considered immune inflamed (hot) based on T cell and PD-L1 infiltrates.In summary, MOCs are mostly immunogenically 'cold', suggesting they may have limited response to current immunotherapies.

We report on the 1,000-element transition-edge sensor (TES) x-ray spectrometer implementation of the TOMographic Circuit Analysis Tool (TOMCAT). TOMCAT combines a high spatial resolution scanning electron microscope (SEM) with a highly efficient and pixelated TES spectrometer to reconstruct three-dimensional maps of nanoscale integrated circuits (ICs). A 240-pixel prototype spectrometer was recently used to reconstruct ICs at the 130 nm technology node, but to increase imaging speed to more practical levels, the detector efficiency needs to be improved. For this reason, we are building a spectrometer that will eventually contain 3,000 TES microcalorimeters read out with microwave superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) multiplexing, and we currently have commissioned a 1,000 TES subarray. This still represents a significant improvement from the 240-pixel system and allows us to begin characterizing the full spectrometer performance. Of the 992 maximimum available readout channels, we have yielded 818 devices, representing the largest number of TES x-ray microcalorimeters simultaneously read out to date. These microcalorimeters have been optimized for pulse speed rather than purely energy resolution, and we measure a FWHM energy resolution of 14 eV at the 8.0 keV Cu K$\alpha$ line., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity

Background: Tissue levels of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been inversely related with risk of myocardial infarction (MI). Whether ratios of n-3 to n-6 PUFAs, reflecting both dietary intake of n-3 PUFAs and competing n-6 PUFAs, are better predictors of future MI than n-3 PUFA fractions is unclear. We aimed at investigating whether such ratios in adipose tissue better predict MI than n-3 PUFA fractions.Methods: Subcutaneous adipose tissue biopsies were obtained in a random sample (n=3,500) of the Diet, Cancer and Health cohort (n=57,053). Adipose tissue content of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), arachidonic acid (AA) and linoleic acid (LA) was determined using gas chromatography. Fractions of selected n-3 PUFAs and n-3/n-6 PUFA ratios were correlated to the 15-year occurrence of MI in a case-cohort design.Results: A total of 2,406 participants experienced an MI during follow-up. Adipose tissue total marine n-3 PUFAs, EPA+DHA, EPA, EPA/AA, DHA/AA and (EPA+DPA+DHA)/AA were all inversely associated with risk of incident MI. Evaluating the predictive power (Harrel's C-index) of the selected metrics, fractions of marine n-3 PUFAs and ratios of EPA/AA, DHA/AA, (EPA+DHA)/AA and (EPA+DPA+DHA)/AA all refined risk prediction over age and sex alone. At multivariable analyses, however, the above ratios were the only metrics providing additional risk prediction. Differences in ratios were related to differences in food intake.Conclusions: Both adipose tissue n-3 PUFAs fractions and ratios of n-3 PUFAs/AA were associated with a lower occurrence of MI, but ratios provided superior risk prediction. Dietary strategies affecting n-3/n-6 PUFA ratios should be further investigated for prediction of MI with dietary interventions at the population level and in intervention studies. Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy with psilocybin is an emerging therapy with great promise for depression, and modern psychedelic therapy (PT) methods incorporate music as a key element. Music is an effective emotional/hedonic stimulus that could also be useful in assessing changes in emotional responsiveness following psychedelic therapy. Brain responses to music were assessed before and after PT using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and ALFF (Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuations) analysis methods. Nineteen patients with treatment-resistant depression underwent two treatment sessions involving administration of psilocybin, with MRI data acquired one week prior and the day after completion of the second of two psilocybin dosing sessions. Comparison of music-listening and resting-state scans revealed significantly greater ALFF in bilateral superior temporal cortex for the post-treatment music scan, and in the right ventral occipital lobe for the post-treatment resting-state scan. ROI analyses of these clusters revealed a significant effect of treatment in the superior temporal lobe for the music scan only. Somewhat consistently, voxelwise comparison of treatment effects showed relative increases for the music scan in the bilateral superior temporal lobes and supramarginal gyrus, and relative decreases in the medial frontal lobes for the resting-state scan. ALFF in these music-related clusters was significantly correlated with intensity of subjective effects felt during the dosing sessions. These data suggest a specific effect of PT on the brain’s response to a hedonic stimulus (music), implying an elevated responsiveness to music after psilocybin therapy that was related to subjective drug effects felt during dosing.

A pregnant woman in her 20s presented with an excessive desire to smell a specific household cleaning product. She was found to have severe iron deficiency anaemia and her symptoms resolved following intravenous iron supplementation. She described symptoms of fatigue, shortness of breath and olfactory cravings. The specific scent could not be replicated with other smells and the woman had to significantly modify her lifestyle to accommodate the excessive desire. She had a similar experience during her prior pregnancy which resolved after the correction of severe iron deficiency anaemia. This unique symptom has been described as desiderosmia: iron deficiency manifesting as olfactory cravings. This underappreciated but useful symptom is defined as a separate entity to pica, as there is an absence of desire to ingest the product. Desiderosmia can harm mother and baby through inhalation of potentially harmful fumes; hence, women who describe this symptom should be assessed for iron deficiency anaemia.

The heart is imbued with a vast lymphatic network that is responsible for fluid homeostasis and immune cell trafficking. Disturbances in the forces that regulate microvascular fluid movement can result in myocardial edema, which has profibrotic and proinflammatory consequences and contributes to cardiovascular dysfunction. This review explores the complex relationship between cardiac lymphatics, myocardial edema, and cardiac disease. It covers the revised paradigm of microvascular forces and fluid movement around the capillary as well as the arsenal of preclinical tools and animal models used to model myocardial edema and cardiac disease. Clinical studies of myocardial edema and their prognostic significance are examined in parallel to the recent elegant animal studies discerning the pathophysiological role and therapeutic potential of cardiac lymphatics in different cardiovascular disease models. This review highlights the outstanding questions of interest to both basic scientists and clinicians regarding the roles of cardiac lymphatics in health and disease.

Medical professionals and biomedical scientists (whom we will refer to as “perceived experts”) are often identified as trusted sources of medical information who may be especially effective at persuading people to get vaccinated. However, the prevalence and influence of perceived experts acting in the opposite role as disseminators of false and misleading claims about health is poorly characterized. Here, we test the relative influence of perceived experts in a Twitter community that spreads anti-vaccine misinformation. We also test whether any boost in influence associated with perceived expertise is greater within the anti-vaccine community compared to the pro-vaccine community.

This paper examines the implications of the second sentence in Tudor Harts statement about inverse care – that its operation was strongest when exposed to market forces. In the Australian context, we briefly review some available evidence for inverse care in three groups – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those living in remote and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas. We then discuss the extent to which these examples can be attributed to the operation of supply-and-demand within Australia’s hybrid fee-for-service system in general practice. Our analysis suggests disparities in workforce supply and the ability of disadvantaged groups to seek preventive and proactive care are critical factors. These, in turn, suggest the need to fund general practice to be responsible for proactive and preventive care of disadvantaged population groups alongside broader structural reforms in workforce, education and taxation.

Three levels of process-oriented model diagnostics are applied to evaluate the Global Ensemble Forecast System version 12 (GEFSv12) reforecasts. The level-1 diagnostics are focused on model systematic errors, which reveals that precipitation onset over tropical oceans occurs too early in terms of column water vapor accumulation. Since precipitation acts to deplete water vapor, this results in prevailing negative biases of precipitable water in the tropics. It is also associated with overtransport of moisture into the mid- and upper troposphere, leading to a dry bias in the lower troposphere and a wet bias in the mid–upper troposphere. The level-2 diagnostics evaluate some major predictability sources on the extended-range time scale: the Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) and North American weather regimes. It is found that the GEFSv12 can skillfully forecast the MJO up to 16 days ahead in terms of the Real-time Multivariate MJO indices (bivariate correlation ≥ 0.6) and can reasonably represent the MJO propagation across the Maritime Continent. The weakened and less coherent MJO signals with increasing forecast lead times may be attributed to humidity biases over the Indo-Pacific warm pool region. It is also found that the weather regimes can be skillfully predicted up to 12 days ahead with persistence comparable to the observation. In the level-3 diagnostics, we examined some high-impact weather systems. The GEFSv12 shows reduced mean biases in tropical cyclone genesis distribution and improved performance in capturing tropical cyclone interannual variability, and midlatitude blocking climatology in the GEFSv12 also shows a better agreement with the observations than in the GEFSv10. Significance Statement The latest U.S. operational weather prediction model—Global Ensemble Forecast System version 12—is evaluated using a suite of physics-based diagnostic metrics from a climatic perspective. The foci of our study consist of three levels: 1) systematic biases in physical processes, 2) tropical and extratropical extended-range predictability sources, and 3) high-impact weather systems like hurricanes and blockings. Such process-oriented diagnostics help us link the model performance to the deficiencies of physics parameterization and thus provide useful information on future model improvement.

Due to the complexity of process operation, industrial process data are often nonlinear and nonstationary, high dimensional, and multivariate with complex interactions between multiple outputs. To address all these issues, this paper proposes a novel industrial predictive model that integrates deep feature extraction and fast online adaptation, and can effectively deal with multiple process outputs. Specifically, a multi-output gradient radial basis function network (MGRBF) with excellent predictive capacity of nonstationary data is first used to provide preliminary prediction of target outputs. This prior quality information is combined with the original process input for deep feature learning and dimensional reduction. Through layer-wise feature extraction by the stacked autoencoder (SAE), deep quality-enhanced features can be obtained, which is further fed into a MGRBF tracker for online prediction. In order to timely capture the fast-changing process characteristics, the first two modules, namely, preliminary MGRBF predictor and SAE feature extractor are frozen after training, while the structure and parameters of the MGRBF tracker are updated online in an efficient manner. Two industrial case studies demonstrate that the proposed adaptive deep MGRBF network outperforms existing state-of-the-art online modeling approaches as well as deep learning models, in terms of both multi-output modeling accuracy and online computational complexity.

BACKGROUND: Fighter pilots’ Team Situation Awareness (TSA) has been studied from the perspective of TSA accuracy, which represents how closely the pilots’ collective knowledge is aligned with the real world. When TSA accuracy is low, the pilots can have similarly or dissimilarly inaccurate SA. The concept of TSA similarity represents the similarity of team members’ collective knowledge. This paper investigates how TSA accuracy and similarity of F/A-18 pilots are associated with performance.METHOD: Data were extracted from simulated air combat missions. Performance and TSA were investigated in 58 engagements. The accuracy and similarity of pilots’ SA were elicited and performance was evaluated. TSA accuracy and similarity were analyzed with respect to the flights’ performance, and the independent variables were events in which the flights initiated engagements with enemy aircraft versus events in which the flights were engaged by enemy aircraft.RESULTS: With the mentioned events as the main effect, there were statistically significant differences at all levels of TSA accuracy and similarity. With performance as the main effect, there were also significant differences at all levels of TSA accuracy and similarity. TSA accuracy and similarity were superior in offensive engagements and when engagements were successful.DISCUSSION: The main contribution of this paper is the extension of the concept of TSA similarity to air combat: both TSA similarity and accuracy were higher when the flight was engaging the enemy aircraft, compared to situations when the flight itself was being engaged. In the midwestern United States, especially Missouri, winegrape (Vitis sp.) growers mostly plant interspecific hybrids, which are well adapted to the climate and pests of the region. ‘Chambourcin’ (an interspecific French-American hybrid) is one of the most widely planted winegrape cultivars in the area. It is usually grown as own-rooted (nongrafted) vines because the economic and horticultural benefits of grafting this cultivar to rootstocks have not been well developed. Further, few significant winegrape rootstock evaluations have been conducted in the midwestern United States, including evaluations of newer rootstocks developed and released by private and public breeding programs. The aim of this study was to assess the potential value of using rootstocks in ‘Chambourcin’ production in southern Missouri, with implications for the midwestern United States. Fruit yield, vine growth, and fruit composition metrics from ‘Chambourcin’ on 10 different root systems [own-rooted, and grafted to rootstocks ‘Couderc 3309’, ‘Couderc 1616’, ‘Paulsen 1103’, ‘Sélection Oppenheim 4’, ‘Millardet et de Grasset 420A’, ‘Millardet et de Grasset 101-14’, ‘Kingfisher’, ‘Matador’ (all Vitis sp.), and ‘Gloire de Montpellier’ riverbank grape (Vitis riparia)] in an experimental vineyard in southwest Missouri were compared. Following three establishment years (2008–10), data were collected across four growing and vintage seasons (2011–14). Yield components evaluated included total fruit production, clusters per vine, cluster weight, berry weight, weight of cane prunings, and crop load. Petiole mineral analysis was conducted in 2011, 2013, and 2014. Grape juice attributes measured were soluble solids concentration, juice pH, titratable acidity (TA), potassium (K), anthocyanins, tannins, phenolics, and organic acids. When simply comparing grafted vs. ungrafted vines, grafting generally induced higher plant vigor and a higher pH in the juice, whereas the other parameters did not differ. When the performances were compared among the 10 root systems, vines grafted to ‘Couderc 3309’ had higher yields compared with vines grafted to six other rootstocks and own-rooted vines. Grafting to ‘Millardet et de Grasset 101-14’ induced higher cluster weight compared with the other rootstocks. The ‘Millardet et de Grasset 420A’ rootstock promoted a higher pH and TA as well as a higher concentration of K in the juice, and ‘Paulsen 1103’ also promoted high pH, TA, and malic acid in the juice, and higher concentrations of phosphorous (P) and K in the petiole compared with most rootstocks. ‘Gloire de Montpellier’ induced a lower P content in the petiole and a higher tartaric/malic acid ratio. Rootstock use can strongly influence some vineyard production metrics as well as nutrient uptake and K levels in the juice (the latter further influencing juice pH). The results of this study provide insights into the complex viticultural and enological interactions resulting from the use of rootstocks in hybrid winegrape production in Missouri, USA.

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) shares the results, conclusions, and recommendations from the initial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Climate Survey conducted in 2021.The climate survey targeted medical physicists who are full members of the AAPM and included demographic inquiries and questions intended to assess the working environmental climate in terms of a sense of belonging and inclusion, experiences of discrimination and harassment, and obstacles to participation within the AAPM. The survey invitation was sent to 5500 members. Responses were collected from 1385 members (response rate of 25%) between January and February 2021.Overall, the medical physics workplace climate was positive. However, some demographic and professional subgroups reported lower levels of agreement with positive characteristics of their workplace climates. Compared with men, women ranked lower 7 of 8 categories that characterized the workplace climate. Other subgroups that also ranked the workplace climate descriptors lower included individuals not originally from the United States and Canada (3/8). Most respondents strongly agreed/agreed that the climate within the AAPM was welcoming. However, 17% of respondents reported personally experiencing or witnessing microaggressions within the AAPM. Overall, medical physicists reported low levels of agreement that opportunities within the AAPM were available to them, from 34% to 60% among 8 categories, including opportunities to volunteer, join committees, and compete for leadership positions within the AAPM. Several subgroups reported even lower levels of agreement that these opportunities are available. Asian and Asian American respondents (3/8) and physicists with origins in countries outside the United States and Canada (7/8) reported fewer opportunities to participate in the AAPM. Medical physicists reported their experiences of discrimination and sexual harassment in their workplaces and within the AAPM. For those who reported personal experiences of sexual harassment, only 24% (15/63) felt comfortable reporting when it occurred within their workplaces, and 35% (9/26) felt comfortable reporting when it occurred within the AAPM.The report concludes with several recommendations for action.

High-fat diet (HFD) for 28 wk leads to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) phenotype, concomitant with increased plasma soluble prorenin receptor (sPRR), nondipping blood pressure, and vascular stiffness in male mice. HFD-fed female mice exhibiting a preserved cardiometabolic phenotype until ovariectomy revealed increased plasma sPRR and blood pressure. Plasma sPRR may indicate the status of systemic renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) activation and the onset of vascular complications during T2DM in a sex-dependent manner.
