Enrolment flowchart of the study population. Two hundred seventy-five participants visited the free health camps. Thirty-seven participants were excluded because of HCV diagnosis (n=5), Postprandial state (n=30) and diabetes (n=2). The final group sample consisted of 238 participants. Objective: To standardize the molecular techniques for early diagnosisof genes of hypertension. Methodology and Results: These techniques include extraction of DNA in which weextracted DNA by manual method with results of high yield, less purity and it was more time consuming. On theother hand with kit (Fermentas) method yield was low with high purity and less time consuming. The purity of DNAwas checked by spectrophotometer by using DNA/RNA ratio. Conditions for diagnosis was optimized for specificDNA sequence by using primers for genes Agt and Ace. Restriction digestion was done with the amplified productwith restriction enzymes Lwel and Nco1 the result was found negative with no polymorphism. Single strandedconformational polymorphism (SSCP) was performed which is more efficient method of obtaining information aboutlevel of polymorphism with in anonymous nuclear loci than the restriction enzyme protocol. SSCP is also morespecific because it gives idea which specific portion of gene is highly polymorphic. The result was again negative.Conclusion: This preliminary study of molecular analysis optimized the conditions for detection of polymorphism ofcandidate genes associated with hypertension. Following the same standardized conditions this is possible that wecan study and diagnose thousands of hypertensive patients. This is very much helpful for future planning of personswho are prone to hypertension due to family history.

Silver(I) complexes of 2-mercaptopyridine (Mpy), [Ag(Mpy)]NO3and [Ag(Mpy)2]NO3, and the first mixed-ligand complex having a thione and thiolate coordinated to Ag(I), [Mpy–Ag–Tm] (Tm═thiomalate) have been prepared and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The1H and13C NMR spectra show the presence of both ligands in the mixed-ligand complex, [Mpy–Ag–Tm]. An upfield shift is observed in the >C═S resonance of Mpy and C═O resonances of thiomalate in13C NMR, while the other resonances are shifted downfield. The complexes showed relatively high antibacterial activity (inhibition zone of 6–11 mm) against a gram +ve bacterium,Bacillus subtilis, as compared to that (inhibition zone of 4 mm) against a gram –ve bacterium,Escherichia coli.

Pakistan is blessed with plants of Asteraceae family with known medicinal background used for centuries by Hakims (traditional physicians). Keeping in mind the background of their anti-larval potential, a total of 21 endophytic actinomycetes were isolated from four Asteraceae plants and screened against the first and fourth instar stages of Culex quinquefasciatus Say mosquito larvae. Of the 21 isolates, 6 of them gave strong larvicidal activity (80–100% mortality) in the screening results and 4 isolates gave a potent larvicidal activity (100% mortality) at the fourth instar stage. These isolates belonged to different species within the actinomycetes group, namely Streptomyces albovinaceus and Streptomyces badius. This communication reports the larvicidal potential of endophytic actinomycetes residing within the native Asteraceae plants in Pakistan. The study suggests further exploration through large-scale productions leading to the identification of the larvicidal compounds.
