InSAR ,Sentinel-1 ,Active Deformation Areas ,Landslides - Abstract
The InSAR technique has been proved to be a powerful tool in order to detect, monitoring and analyse movements related to geological phenomena. Its application ranges from regional/national scale to a very detailed scale, up to a single building analysis. Moreover, since 2014, the free and constant availability of Sentinel-1 data has been helping the tendency of using more and more this technique in the institutional risk management activities. Many European and national projects have been financed in order to investigate and improve the processing performances and broaden the operational use and application of the results. In this work, we present the first results developed in the framework of the project Riskcoast (SOE3/P4/E0868) over an area of around 4 km 2 in Andalucía (Spain), including the city and the coast of Granada. Riskcoast has been funded by the Interreg Sudoe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The presented work is as an example of multi scale (medium to large) application of InSAR for geohazard applications. The velocity map including the estimation of the displacement time series have been produced over the whole area by processing 139 radar images of the Sentinel-1 (A and B). Starting from those results a rapid and semi-automatic extraction of the most significant active displacement areas (ADA) has been performed. Then, after a classification of the detected areas, a more detailed analysis has been done over some selected costal landslides. Over those landslides a damage mapping has been generated based on field surveys, and then analysed together with the spatial gradient of displacement derived by the InSAR results. The Riskcoast project will be introduced and the first results presented. Powered by TCPDF

- Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social interaction and communication difficulties, along with narrow and repetitive interests. Being an spectrum disorder, ASD affects individuals with a large range of combinations of challenges along dimensions such intelligence, social skills, or sensory processing. Hence, any interactive technology for ASD ought to be customizable to fit the particular profile of each individual that uses it. The goal of this paper is to characterize the support of customization in this area. To do so, we performed a focused study that identifies the dimensions of ASD where customization has been considered on wearable and natural surfaces technologies, two of the most promising technologies for ASD, and assess the empirical evaluation that supports them. Our study revealed that, even though its critical importance, customization has fundamentally not been addressed in this domain and it opened avenues for research at the intersection of human-computer interaction and software engineering., Comment: 22 pages

The Individual Work System (IWS) is an essential element from the TEACCH program, designed by The University of North Carolina (USA), one of the most used all over the world for work with persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The FORHHSS-TEA project uses spatial augmented reality and virtual reality technologies, following the IWS, to help persons with ASD to develop areas where they usually have problems. In the VR version, the end-users wear virtual reality glasses and 3D scanners to detect their hands in order to interact with a virtual setting. In the AR version, participants interact with a real scenario that is augmented with projection lights in order to improve independent completion of tasks. Thus, many technologies are involved to evaluate the process: eye tracking, biosignals, and emotion recognition through facial analysis and IP cameras. By using these technologies, the concentration level and the state of the person with ASD are evaluated. In the platform, there are also pressure sensors to process the user interaction with the platform elements. The platform has been evaluated with 4 persons with ASD during 5 weeks. In this paper, it is presented the design of the platform, the session description and the results of the evaluation., Spanish Computer Graphics Conference (CEIG), Virtual and Augmented Reality, 55, 64, Javier Sevilla, Lucia Vera, Gerardo Herrera, and Marcos Fernández, CCS Concepts: Computing methodologies --> Virtual reality, Mixed/augmented Reality; Applied Computing --> Computer-assisted instructions

E-learning has been continuously present in current educational discourse, thanks to technological advances, learning methodologies and public or organizational policies, among other factors. However, despite its boom and dominance in various subject areas, this thematic does not yet exist in the world system of publications. Therefore, works in this thematic end up being published under related categories, particularly Education or categories within subject area Computer Science, thus fragmenting and make invisible the existing knowledge. This work is based on the hypothesis that the scientific communication of e-learning has a sufficient degree of cohesion to be considered as a thematic category in itself. From a bibliometric approach, its scientific production was analyzed, obtaining the bibliographic data of SCOPUS and SCImago, selecting its main descriptors and generating visualizations through VOSViewer with the mapping overlay technique, to represent its set and proximity. As a result, it was determined that a set of 219 publications show a high bibliometric interrelation among its articles and these are presented transversely between the social sciences, computer science and health. This set serves as a channel of scientific communication and structure of knowledge on the thematic and can therefore be considered as the basis for establishing the "e-learning" thematic category in the world system of scientific publications, contributing to the consolidation of the discipline, to its access and development by researchers., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables

Ground subsidence is a natural hazard that affects wide areas causing important economic damages and a high social alarm. Ground subsidence may be due to several causes as deep material dissolution, excavation of ground tunnels or mining galleries, deep erosion, lateral soil creep, compaction of soil materials or tectonic activity. All these causes are manifested at terrain surface as vertical deformations that can vary from a few millimetres to several meters during periods that vary from minutes to years.

We study the polarization change of Lambda^0's produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions with respect to the polarization observed in proton-proton collisions as a signal for the formation of a Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). Assuming that, when the density of participants in the collision is larger than the critical density for QGP formation, the Lambda^0 production mechanism changes from recombination type processes to the coalescence of free valence quarks, we find that the Lambda^0 polarization depends on the relative contribution of each process to the total number of Lambda^0's produced in the collision. To describe the polarization of Lambda^0's in nuclear collisions for densities below the critical density for the QGP formation, we use the DeGrand-Miettinen model corrected for the effects introduced by multiple scattering of the produced Lambda^0 within the nuclear environment., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, uses ReVTeX and epsfig.sty

Landslides are widespread natural hazards that generate considerable damage and economic losses worldwide. Detecting terrain movements caused by these phenomena and characterizing affected urban areas is critical to reduce their impact. Here we present a fast and simple methodology to create maps of vulnerable buildings affected by slow-moving landslides, based on two parameters: (1) the deformation rate associated to each building, measured from Sentinel-1 SAR data, and (2) the building damage generated by the landslide movement and recorded during a field campaign. We apply this method to Arcos de la Frontera, a monumental town in South Spain affected by a slow-moving landslide that has caused severe damage to buildings, forcing the evacuation of some of them. Our results show that maximum deformation rates of 4 cm/year in the line-of-sight (LOS) of the satellite, affects La Verbena, a newly-developed area, and displacements are mostly horizontal, as expected for a planar-landslide. Our building damage assessment reveals that most of the building blocks in La Verbena present moderate to severe damages. According to our vulnerability scale, 93% of the building blocks analysed present high vulnerability and, thus, should be the focus of more in-depth local studies to evaluate the serviceability of buildings, prior to adopting the necessary mitigation measures to reduce or cope with the negative consequences of this landslide. This methodology can be applied to slow-moving landslides worldwide thanks to the global availability of Sentinel-1 SAR data., Geohazards InSAR laboratory and Modelling Group, Departamento de Investigación y Prospectiva Geocientífica, Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, España, Istituto di ricerca per la protezione idrogeologica, Italia, Unidad de Granada, Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, España, Dares Technology, España, Earth Observation and Geohazards Expert Group, EuroGeoSurveys, Bélgica, Instituto de Geociencias, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, España, Instituto de Geociencias, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, España, Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italia
