Resume La tuberculose peritoneale est une forme rare de tuberculose extrapulmonaire de l'enfant. Elle se caracterise par la survenue d'une ascite accompagnee d'une alteration progressive de l'etat general. Son diagnostic peut parfois etre difficile. Observations. – Nous rapportons deux observations de tuberculose peritoneale survenue chez deux adolescentes âgees de 15 ans. Dans les deux cas, la symptomatologie etait dominee par un amaigrissement important, une fievre et une distension abdominale. Dans le premier, le diagnostic etait rendu difficile par le caractere non specifique des resultats des examens complementaires ; la confirmation bacteriologique n'a ete apportee que trois semaines apres l'ensemencement du liquide d'ascite. Dans le deuxieme, la realisation rapide d'une cœlioscopie a conduit a un diagnostic precoce en montrant de nombreuses granulations peritoneales caracteristiques de cette affection. A chaque fois, l'evolution a ete favorable. Conclusion. – Le diagnostic de la tuberculose peritoneale est porte sur un ensemble d'arguments anamnestiques, cliniques et biologiques. La cœlioscopie et le dosage de l'adenosine deaminase (ADA) dans le liquide d'ascite ont une place importante dans le diagnostic de cette forme de tuberculose.

His architectural realisations re-inforce the realism of his works by giving a three dimensional illusion respecting the original object.

Pasteurella multocida is usually responsible for local infections occurring after animal bites. It can also be responsible for meningitis in infants. A three-month old infant was admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of bacterial meningitis and hip osteitis. Cultures of cerebrospinal fluid, blood and joint liquid were positive to Pasteurella multocida. Licking from the family dog was the transmission mode in this case. Despite initial neurological complications, clinical evolution was favourable after three weeks of intravenous antibiotic therapy followed by an oral administration for three months. Pasteurella multocida meningitis is rare in infants. It can be associated with arthritis, osteitis and septicaemia. Besides animal bites, licking is also a mode of contamination.

The 1992 revision of the American Psychological Association's ethics code includes, for the first time, a section devoted to forensic issues. This article examines the adequacy with which the Forensic Activities section addresses fundamental ethical issues inherent in forensic practices (i.e., being competent in forensic practice, dealing with requests for service, providing informed consent, providing services, and reporting findings). We conclude that the ethics code modestly addresses important forensic ethical issues and that it too often is characterized by inconsistencies, insufficient information, omissions, and the inappropriate application of the term forensic to general standards not uniquely related to forensic practice.

The courts historically have viewed mental and emotional injuries with suspicion. In attempting to ensure the genuineness of those claims that are brought to trial, most courts require that plaintiffs meet standards that go beyond those that are imposed for claims of physical injury, even though the value and validity of these additional standards have not been empirically assessed. Although the development of legal standards in the absence of empirical data is troubling, of particular concern is the fact that some of the imposed standards are artificial in that they refer to factors not directly related to the injury claimed. This study explores the impact of these standards on the litigation of claims for emotional injuries. The paper discusses the effects that artificial standards had upon claims pursued at the trial court level. According to these data, artificial standards are not warranted.

"MotionMakertrade" is a stationary programmable test and training system for the lower limbs developed at the 'Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne' with the 'Fondation Suisse pour les Cybertheses'. The system is composed of two robotic orthoses comprising motors and sensors, and a control unit managing the trans-cutaneous electrical muscle stimulation with real-time regulation. The control of the functional electrical stimulation (FES) induced muscle force necessary to mimic natural exercise is ensured by the control unit which receives a continuous input from the position and force sensors mounted on the robot. First results with control subjects showed the feasibility of creating movements by such closed-loop controlled FES induced muscle contractions. To make exercising with the MotionMakertrade safe for clinical trials with spinal cord injured (SCI) volunteers, several original safety features have been introduced. The MotionMakertrade is able to identify and manage the occurrence of spasms. Fatigue can also be detected and overfatigue during exercise prevented

A l'aide du microscope électronique on a étudié systématiquement des suspensions de montmorillonite et d'hectorite bien dispersées et saturées par les cations H, Na et Ca. Les expériences ont permis de montrer l'importance du milieu ionique, dans les caractères fondamentaux des suspensions séchées. L'étude des micrographies ainsi obtenues a permis l'observation directe des particules primaires non agrégées.
