Foi escrito tendo como tema a Internacionalização no IFFluminense de uma apresentação realizada junto ao Centro de Línguas do IFF (CELIFF), no evento “CELIFF além da Sala de Aula: Nosotros speak CELIFF”, durante a Semana do Saber-Fazer-Fazer do ano de 2022. É, na verdade, “um histórico”/“uma trajetória” da Internacionalização no IFFluminense, a partir da própria trajetória de vida da autora dentro da instituição, desde o início, não apenas enquanto servidora, como também como alguém com extrema conexão aos tópicos em questão, com formação, experiência e vivência específicas para o tema e o público-alvo propostos. É um texto, um depoimento, em forma de artigo.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between sociodemographic, clinical, and psychological variables and their contribution towards family functioning during the first wave of COVID-19 in Portugal. The COVID-19 pandemic was an overwhelming and stressful life event with social consequences that impacted family functioning and contributed to multilevel disruptions. The study used a cross-sectional design and included 110 participants (94 women), with a mean age of 35.71 (SD = 13.53). Participants answered self-report measures assessing family satisfaction, hope, psychological well-being, risk perception, and family functioning. Hope (pathways subscale) played a moderating role in the relationship between family satisfaction and family functioning. Family satisfaction and psychological well-being partially mediated the relationship between hope and family functioning. Clinical relevance and implications for further research are addressed. Intervention should focus on increasing psychological well-being and hope together with family satisfaction in order to promote family functioning. For those individuals struggling with COVID-19 issues, mental health interventions are paramount., Este estudio ha tenido como objetivo explorar la relación entre las variables sociodemográficas, clínicas y psicológicas y el funcionamiento familiar en la primera oleada de COVID-19 en Portugal. La pandemia de COVID-19 fue una situación de vida abrumadora y estresante con consecuencias sociales que afectaron en el funcionamiento familiar. El estudio utilizó un diseño transversal e incluyó 110 participantes (94 mujeres), con una edad media de 35.71 años (SD = 13.53). Los participantes respondieron a medidas que evaluaban la satisfacción familiar, la esperanza, el bienestar psicológico, la percepción del riesgo y el funcionamiento familiar. La esperanza (subescala “caminos”) desempeñó un papel moderador en la relación entre la satisfacción familiar y el funcionamiento familiar. La satisfacción familiar y el bienestar psicológico mediaron parcialmente en la relación entre la esperanza y el funcionamiento familiar. Se abordan la importancia clínica y las implicaciones para futuras investigaciones. La intervención deberá centrarse en aumentar el bienestar psicológico y la esperanza junto con la satisfacción familiar para promover el funcionamiento familiar. Para los individuos que luchan con problemas de COVID-19 son primordiales las intervenciones de salud mental.

This study aimed to investigate the trends in antidepressants sales in Brazil.We performed a joinpoint analysis of antidepressants sales in Brazil from 2014 to 2020, recorded in the Brazilian National Controlled Products Management System. The primary outcomes were the defined daily dose per 1000 inhabitants per day (DID) and the market shares for each antidepressant per year. We used joinpoint regression to assess the changes in antidepressant consumption in DID to obtain the average annual percent change (AAPC) and 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI). Changes in market shares were tested by chi-square trend test (p 0.05 as significant).From 2014 to 2020, 42,252,989 antidepressant sales were recorded in the system. Antidepressant sales increased from 13.7 to 33.6 DID in the period (AAPC: 15.7; 95 % CI: 13.0-18.4; p 0.001); the largest increases were observed for serotonin reuptake inhibitors and 'other' antidepressants (including serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors), whereas tricyclics remained steady. Escitalopram and sertraline were the most sold drugs. Market share of serotonin reuptake inhibitors decreased, particularly for paroxetine (13.1 % to 6.5 %; p = 0.016), while 'other' antidepressants' market share expanded from 21.9 % to 33.3 % (p = 0.027), especially for desvenlafaxine (2.9 % to 14.3 %; p 0.001).The dataset does not include antidepressants dispensed in hospitals, public services, and compounding pharmacies, neither their therapeutic indications.Sales of antidepressants significantly increased in Brazil from 2014 to 2020, which were mainly driven by higher prescriptions of serotonin reuptake inhibitors and 'other' antidepressants classes. Market share changes seem to be driven by novelty of products.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, two mRNA vaccines (Comirnaty and Spikevax) received emergency use authorization from the European Medicines Agency. This case report aimed to report a delayed adverse reaction to the mRNA-1273 vaccine against COVID-19 from a Portuguese vaccination center. A case report was performed with medical observation and reported to the Portuguese Pharmacovigilance System, then investigated based on the WHO-UMC Causality Categories. A 66-year-old female patient with a clinical history of dyslipidemia, essential arterial hypertension, obesity, multinodular goitre and cholecystectomy, who presented delayed large cutaneous hypersensitivity reaction following Spikevax COVID-19 mRNA (mRNA-1273) vaccine administration. Our clinical findings (time and clinical appearance), along with evidence of previously reported histological findings, are strongly suggestive of T-cell-mediated hypersensitivity. There is no contraindication to the inoculation of subsequent doses in patients developing these clinical conditions, and vaccination should continue to be strongly encouraged.

The close contact between patients and community pharmacists, along with the extensive geographical distribution of pharmacies in Portugal, offer exceptional conditions to detect and report adverse drug reactions (ADR). This study aimed to evaluate the motivation and knowledge of spontaneous reporting of ADR by community pharmacists of Porto, Portugal. Secondly, we aimed to generate real-world evidence on the main factors determining ADR report and at raising potential alternatives to the current reporting procedure in community pharmacy. We performed a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational, anonymous web survey-based study. Between April and July 2021, a web survey was implemented, targeting community pharmacists in the Porto district, Portugal. We validated 217 surveys from pharmacists. Regular notifiers seem to be more familiarised than non-regular notifiers with the Portuguese Pharmacovigilance System (PPS), with the Portal RAM for reporting suspected ADR, and with the update of the concept of ADR. Moreover, regular notifiers seem to be more proactive with their care in questioning patients about ADR and have more self-knowledge to identify suspected ADR. Conversely, non-regular notifiers, seem to be more reluctant to be judged by their ADR reporting activities. Respondents suggested to simplify and optimise the reporting process (31% of the suggestions), or to integrate a reporting platform into the pharmacy's software (27%). This study identified opportunities to promote the ADR reporting process by community pharmacists, namely receiving feedback from the PPS on the reported case and its regulatory implications, implementing training programs in pharmacovigilance, and creating solutions to simplify the reporting process.

Introduction: Depression is an emotional disorder associated with morbidities and disabilities worldwide. The growing use of antidepressants is a concern for health managers because there are still unanswered questions on the effectiveness and safety of these medicines. Drug sales have increased in Brazil in recent years, but investigations on antidepressants sales are not available. We aimed to describe the trends in the antidepressant commerce in Brazil in a five-year period.Materials and Methods: We performed an ecological study on antidepressant sales in Brazil, from November 2014 to October 2019, using data from IQVIA™, a data provider of pharmaceutical sales. Antidepressants were coded by the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical classification system, and sales were presented in defined daily doses (DDDs) and DDDs per 1,000 inhabitants per day (DIDs). The results were expressed in absolute quantities and growth rates.Results: The analyzed dataset contained 23 active substances in 780 products. The total sales of antidepressants increased from 23.3 DIDs in November 2014 to 38.3 DIDs in October 2019 (p = 0.002). Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors were the most sold category of drugs (+5.7 million DDDs) in the period. ‘Other’ antidepressants presented the largest growth rate (104.7%). Individually, the most sold active substance was escitalopram (+1.8 million DDDs), and vortioxetine had the largest growth rate (336.2%). Tricyclic sales remained unchanged, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors had low and even decreasing sales (−9.5%).Discussion: The total sales of antidepressants increased in Brazil from November 2014 to October 2019. The higher sale volumes of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and higher growth rate of ‘other’ antidepressants, with low sale volume of tricyclics and a decrease of monoamine oxidase inhibitors, suggest the replacement of older drugs by newer ones following a global trend. Therapeutic advances and commercial promotion efforts on new products might explain these findings.

A primeira observação relativa à escrita literária relaciona-se ao próprio ato físico de escrever, condicionado a uma tensão corpórea que só é aliviada, acabada, quando a escrita é terminada. Esta, em si, liga-se profundamente a uma conjuntura histórica, visto que não é atemporal, tampouco impessoal (SPILLERS, 2015, p. 58). Soma-se a isso o fato de que o escritor, ao conceber noções de pertencimento em meio à sociedade que o cerca, não pode isolar-se de tudo o que, de alguma forma, o sensibiliza. Considerando, portanto, que homem e sociedade coadunam-se sobremaneira, analisamos atentamente a escrita poética de Warsan Shire (Quênia), Upile Chisala (Maláui) e Safia Elhillo (Sudão), que está demasiadamente associada às suas vivências pessoais, bem como ao passado histórico de seus países de origem e às heranças culturais de seus antepassados, uma vez que a própria escrita carrega em si uma carga de urgência assaz relacionada ao momento sócio-político-cultural da sociedade contemporânea.

The potential applications of Additive Manufacturing technologies are capturing the interest of researchers and industries. Many researchers are now focusing on additive manufacturing and its potential to change the industrial paradigm in terms of economic, environmental, and social sustainability. One of the most promising areas for additive manufacturing adoption is maintenance, more specifically, manufacturing of spare parts. The customization potential, and excellent small series capabilities of AM can lead to reductions in size of central and local storages, eliminate the need to locate uncommon spare parts in the distribution network, shorten supply chains and diminish the duration and cost of logistics. The case for replacing conventional spare parts with additive manufactured equivalents has been the discussed in various studies focused of the aeronautic sector, however, its potential in other industries remains relatively unexplored. The continuous process industry is characterized by extremely high production volumes with costly machines and downtime. The combination of these characteristics with intermittent spare part demand patterns and the predominance of reactive maintenance, drives companies to keep large spare parts stock, which makes the case for introducing AM in process industry maintenance very appealing. This study focuses on how AM could change maintenance activities/supply chain in process industries and its economic impact using process based cost models. To further illustrate and study the problem, this paper contains a detailed evaluation of AM’s potential and impacts in a case study from the paper and pulp industry.

Cyperus articulatus L., perteneciente a la familia Cyperaceae, es una especie vegetal que presenta flores casi insignificantes en sus extremos. Los tallos de la especie producen tuberculos que al cortarse desprenden un olor fresco, amaderado y especiado; se utilizan tradicionalmente en banos y en la fabricacion de colonias artesanales en el norte de Brasil. Ademas de su uso en cosmetica y perfumeria, la planta tambien tiene propiedades medicinales y farmacologicas. Entre las propiedades farmacologicas se encuentran los efectos antimalaricos, sedantes, hepatoprotectores, anticonceptivos sobre el sistema nervioso central (SNC), insecticidas, antimicrobianos, anticancerigenos, antioxidantes, anticonvulsivos, antococosis. Los metabolitos encontrados relacionados con las actividades mencionadas fueron ciperotundona, alfa-ciperona, mustacona para la actividad antimalarica en el extracto cloroformico de los rizomas de priprioca. En la decoccion de rizomas de C. articulatus se encontraron flavonoides, saponinas, azucares, triterpenos y poliuronidas con propiedades sedantes. Los metabolitos implicados en la funcion hepatoprotectora, el efecto anticonceptivo y el efecto del sistema nervioso central no se encontraron en la literatura. Los metabolitos aromaticos de mono y sesquiterpenos se han relacionado con las propiedades insecticidas en el extracto metanolico de rizoma. En los extractos etanolicos y cloroformicos de rizomas, los metabolitos α y β-pineno estaban relacionados con la actividad antimicrobiana. Los compuestos sesquiterpenos y monoterpenos que se encuentran en el aceite esencial de C. articulatus estaban relacionados con propiedades anticancerigenas. Los compuestos fenolicos del aceite esencial de C. articulatus se relacionaron con las propiedades antioxidantes. Los compuestos alcaloides que se encuentran en el extracto del rizoma de C. articulatus mostraron actividad anticonvulsiva. Los metabolitos de mustakona y el acido linoleico que se encuentran en el extracto de rizoma de C. articulatus estaban directamente relacionados con las propiedades antioncocercales. El presente trabajo reviso las propiedades medicas, terapeuticas y farmacologicas de Cyperus articulatus.

Os casos de dengue apresentam importante crescimento no Brasil nos ultimos anos. Estudos com extratos de plantas mostram o potencial inseticida de substâncias bioativas que as torna candidatas a futuros produtos comerciais. Este trabalho avaliou o efeito larvicida do oleo essencial contido no hidrolato dos rizomas de Cyperus articulatus var. nodosus contra o terceiro e quarto estagio de larvas de Aedes aegypti, reduzindo a sobrevivencia de larvas tanto do terceiro quanto do quarto instar do Ae. aegypti. A caracterizacao quimica dos sesquiterpenos do hidrolato foi realizada por GC-MS, revelando como compostos majoritarios a verbenona (%), o trans-sabinol (%) e o mirtenol (%).

Adverse drug reactions (ADR) cause significant morbidity, mortality and health costs and have an important prevalence in all ages. Few studies focus on ADR in adolescents. The goal of this study was to characterize a case series of ADR reported to the Portuguese Pharmacovigilance System (PPS) of the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (INFARMED, I.P.) during an eleven-year period (from 2006 to 2016) concerning this specific population.Retrospective analysis of reports concerning patients from 10 to 18 years received by the PPS between 2006 and 2016. The authors evaluated patients' demographics (age and sex). The characteristics and seriousness of the reactions, the type of reaction reported, and the drugs involved were assessed.The authors found 782 reports (59% females). Most reports came from physicians (61%). Overall 80% of the reports described serious ADR. A greater proportion of serious events was found among males. Most reactions referred to general disorders and administration site conditions (38%), followed by skin and subcutaneous tissue reactions (33%). In 3Major findings considering drugs involved and the reported reactions varied according to age and sex.

Background Older patients are more likely to have medication-related problems, which are associated with changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, multimorbidity, and polypharmacy. Polypharmacy and inappropriate prescribing are well-known risk factors which commonly cause adverse clinical outcomes in older people. Prescribers struggle to identify potentially inappropriate medications and to choose an adequate tapering approach. Methods/design The goal of the study is to translate and culturally adapt MedStopper®, an original English language web-based decision aid system in deprescribing medication, to the Portuguese population. A translation-back translation method, with validation of the obtained Portuguese version of MedStopper® will be used, followed by a comprehension test. Discussion This is the first research in the Portuguese primary care setting that aims to provide a useful online tool for the appropriate prescription of older patients. The translated version in Portuguese version of the MedStopper® tool will represent an advance that seeks to continue improving the management of medications in the elderly. The adaptation into Portuguese of the educational tool provides clinicians with a screening tool to detect potentially inappropriate prescribing in patients older than 65 that reliable and easier to use. Adverse drug reactions (ADR) significantly impact mortality and morbidity and lead to high healthcare costs. Reporting ADR to regulatory authorities allows for monitoring the safety and efficacy profile of medicines on the market and for assessing the benefit–risk ratio. This retrospective study aims to characterize the ADR profile of the most consumed antibiotics in Portugal that are prescribed for upper airway infections and submitted to the EudraVigilance database. The variables were analyzed in an exploratory perspective, through absolute and relative frequencies, with emphasis on serious ADR. A total of 59,022 reports were analyzed of which 64.4% were classified as suspected serious ADR. According to serious ADR, the female sex (52.2%) and 18–64 age group (47.5%) prevail. Health professionals reported 87.8% of suspected serious ADR and European Economic Area (EEA) countries represented 50.8% of the reports. “Skin and subcutaneous tissue connections” (15.9%), “general disorders and administrations site conditions” (12%), and “gastrointestinal disorders” (9.8%) are the prevalent system organ classes. In 4.5% of the reports, patients had a fatal outcome. Exposure to methamphetamine (Meth) has been classically associated with damage to neuronal terminals. However, it is now becoming clear that addiction may also result from the interplay between glial cells and neurons. Recently, we demonstrated that binge Meth administration promotes microgliosis and microglia pro-inflammation via astrocytic glutamate release in a TNF/IP3R2-Ca2+-dependent manner. Here, we investigated the contribution of neuronal cells to this process. As the crosstalk between microglia and neurons may occur by contact-dependent and/or contact-independent mechanisms, we developed co-cultures of primary neurons and microglia in microfluidic devices to investigate how their interaction affects Meth-induced microglia activation. Our results show that neurons exposed to Meth do not activate microglia in a cell-autonomous way but require astrocyte mediation. Importantly, we found that neurons can partially prevent Meth-induced microglia activation via astrocytes, which seems to be achieved by increasing arginase 1 expression and strengthening the CD200/CD200r pathway. We also observed an increase in synaptic individual area, as determined by co-localization of pre- and post-synaptic markers. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Pharmacovigilance as the science and activities relating to the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse drug effects. The aim is to promote the safety and effective use of medicines through an early detection and evaluation of drug safety risks. The pharmacovigilance system is essentially based in spontaneous reports of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR). ADR can be associated with severe outcomes and significant mortality, besides, most of them are deemed to be preventable events. Globally, antibiotics are among the most widely prescribed medications and their extensive use is linked to antibiotic-associated ADR. This chapter aims to summarize available epidemiological data concerning antibiotic use related ADR and analyze the reports received by the EudraVigilance system regarding the exclusive usage of antibiotics.

Este texto tem como objetivo analisar, a partir das ideias propostas no livro África Insubmissa de Achille Mbembe, os significados da experiência religiosa como resistência ao processo de colonização cristã no continente africano, em contextos e construções narrativas pós-coloniais, em dois romances da literatura nigeriana: Things Fall Apart, de Chinua Achebe e Purple Hibiscus de Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic represented a challenge for intensive care units (ICU) with overwhelming demand, heterogenous outcomes and clinical practices. To improve care a profound knowledge on severe COVID-19 patients during different time points is crucial. This data is still scarce. We aimed to analyze and compare COVID-19 patient demographics, clinical management, and outcomes between two periods from the first pandemic wave.MethodsWe performed a multicentric ambispective cohort study including severe COVID-19 patients between March and August 2020 from 16 Portuguese ICUs. A peak and a plateau period were defined, corresponding to weeks 10-16 and 17-34 of the first pandemic wave. All patients had SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia diagnosis and complete hospital follow-up.ResultsWe included 541 adult patients with a median age of 65 [57-74] years and mostly male (71.2%). Cyperus articulatus (Cyperaceae) é uma planta cujo tubérculo é utilizado na Amazônia para banhos de cheiro e perfumes caseiros. O óleo essencial (OE) da planta é empregado na perfumaria fina. A região do oeste do estado do Pará tem clima, terra e meios apropriados para o cultivo. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi a produção sustentável de C. articulatus em comunidades locais, estabelecendo as bases de experimentos agronômicos para obtenção de parâmetros mínimos de um cultivo comercial. Foram instalados os experimentos Tabocal I e II (área de produtores) e Belterra (área da EMBRAPA). Optou-se por utilizar áreas agrícolas degradadas e analisar os fatores edafoclimáticos da região, obtendo-se coeficientes técnicos de produção aos 9 e 12 meses de cultivo. Aos 12 meses de cultivo, as melhores produções de tubérculos frescos de priprioca foram obtidas em Belterra 7,66t ha-Å, Tabocal I 11,20t ha-Å e Tabocal II 22,09t ha-Å. Os custos de produção por hectare foram estabelecidos para Belterra em R$ 12.410,00, Tabocal I em R$ 15.740,00 e Tabocal II em R$ 12.460,00. O lucro da produção de tubérculos para Belterra foi de R$ 1.910,00, Tabocal I com R$ 6.660,00 e Tabocal II com R$ 31.734,00. Foram estabelecidos parâmetros da extração e análise cromatográfica do óleo essencial dos tubérculosde priprioca em escala laboratorial, piloto e industrial. O rendimento médio no extrator piloto foi de 0,35%, Clevenger igual a 0,56%, e o industrial em 0,45%. A análise do OE por Cromatografia de Gás acoplada à espectrometria de Massas (GC-MS) é discutida com base nas características dos experimentos. O perfil químico mostra terpenos característicos da espécie, como a mustacona, com variações de concentrações sujeitas aos fatores edafoclimáticos. A comercialização do OE praticada a US$ 500/kg mostra-se como uma nova alternativa econômica para a região.

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus, conocida popularmente como “saracura-mirá”, pertenece a la familia de las plantas Rhamnaceae. Esta planta ha ocurrido limitada a la región amazónica y tiene numerosas propiedades etnobotánicas y farmacológicas. En esta revisión, entre las propiedades farmacológicas encontradas se encuentran las actividades antivirales, antibacterianas y antifúngicas, tripanocidas, antipalúdicas, larvicidas, inmunobiológicas y antiinflamatorias, diuréticas y antidiuréticas, citotóxicas y antitumorales, adaptógenas e inmunomoduladoras. No se encontraron en la literatura metabolitos relacionados con la actividad antiviral, antibacteriana y antifúngica. Los metabolitos ácido betulínico, ácido 3ß-hidroxilup-20(29)-eno-27,28-diioico y ácido 2T, 3ß-dihidroxilup-20(29)- eno-27,28 se encontraron en el extracto de acetato de etilo y metanólico. También no se encontraron metabolitos para la actividad antipalúdica y larvicida. Las saponinas complejas presentes en el extracto acuoso se relacionaron con actividades inmunobiológicas y antiinflamatorias. Las saponinas y triterpenos mezclados con saponinas del extracto etanólico de raíces secas se relacionaron con la actividad diurética y antidiurética. Los compuestos 3ß-hidroxilup-20 (29) -en-27, ácido 28-dioico y ácido 2T, 3ß-dihidroxilup-20 (29) -eno-27,28-dioico que se encuentran en el extracto crudo de hexano, etil- acetato, etanólico, metanólico y acuoso de A. amazonicus demostraron actividad citotóxica y antitumoral. No se encontraron compuestos relacionados con la actividad adaptogénica e inmunomoduladora. El presente trabajo revisó las propiedades etnobotánicas y farmacológicas de Ampelozizyphus amazonicus. A Ampelozizyphus amazonicus, conhecida popularmente como “saracura-mirá”, pertence à família das plantas Rhamnaceae. In this review, among the pharmacological properties found are antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal, trypanocidal, antimalarial, larvicidal, immunobiological and anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antidiuretic, cytotoxic and antitumor, adaptogenic and immunomodulatory activities. Metabolites related to antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal activity were not found in the literature. The metabolites betulinic acid, 3ß-hydroxylup-20 (29) -eno-27,28-diioic acid and 2T, 3ß-dihydroxylup-20 (29) -eno-27,28 were found in the methanolic and ethyl acetate extract. -dioecious. For antimalarial and larvicidal activity, no metabolites were found for such activities. Complex saponins present in the aqueous extract were related to immunobiological and anti-inflammatory activities. Saponins and triterpenes mixed with saponins from the ethanolic extract of dry roots were related to diuretic and antidiuretic activity. The compounds 3ß-hydroxilup-20 (29) -en-27, 28-dioic acid and 2T, 3ß-dihydroxilup-20 (29) -eno-27,28-dioic acid found in the crude extract of hexane, ethyl- acetate, ethanolic, methanolic and aqueous from A. amazonicus demonstrated cytotoxic and antitumor activity. No compounds related to adaptogenic and immunomodulatory activity were found. The present work reviewed the ethnobotanical and pharmacological properties of Ampelozizyphus amazonicus.

Este estudo investigou a composicao nutricional e mineral da planta Cyperus articulatus var. nodosus, mais conhecida como priprioca. A priprioca foi obtida na Comunidade Tabocal, Santarem, Para, Brasil. 100mg de rizomas de priprioca foram lavados com solucao de hipoclorito a 2%. Estes foram secos em estufa a 40oC. Os rizomas foram entao moidos para obter um po para analise da composicao centesimal e mineral. Como resultado foram encontrados teores de fibras, proteinas, carboidratos e baixo teor de lipidios. Em relacao aos minerais, foram encontrados niveis mais elevados de ferro (118,5mg/100g), zinco (58,25mg/100g), seguido de potassio (50,6mg/100g). Os resultados indicam que os valores de minerais sao valiosos.

V. surinamensis (Rol.) (Myristicaceae) é uma árvore com forma piramidal, com 25 a 35m de altura, que possui tronco cilíndrico, folhas simples e pequenas flores amarelas. É nativa das florestas alagádicas da região amazônica. O óleo extraído das sementes é rico em trimististina e pode ser usado na fabricação de velas, sabonetes, cosméticos e perfumes. Além do uso em cosméticos e perfumaria, a planta também possui propriedades terapêuticas e farmacológicas. Entre as propriedades farmacológicas estão as atividades antimicrobiana, larvicida, antitumoral, antinociceptiva e anti-inflamatória, antioxidante, leishmanicida, antimalárica, cercaricida, tripanocida, gastroprotetora e antiulcerogênica. Os metabólitos encontrados, relacionados às atividades mencionadas, foram compostos fenólicos, compostos lignanos e neolignanos e α e β-pineno no extrato hidrofílico, e sementes de ucuúba para atividade antimicrobiana. Nas folhas de V. surinamensis foram encontradas lignina grandsina para atividade larvicida. Para atividade antitumoral foi encontrada a lignana tetraidrofurnica grandisina em folhas de V. surinamensis. O composto grandsina foi relacionado à propriedade antinociceptiva e anti-inflamatória. Já os compostos α tocoferol e β caroteno isolados do extrato metanólico dos rizomas foram relacionados à atividade antioxidante. Compostos como neolignanos, surinamensina, virolina, mistura de hidrocarbonetos em cadeia, glicéridos, ésteres, esteróides e arilpropanóides encontrados no extrato hexânico demonstraram atividade antileishmanicida. O sesquiterpeno nerolidol isolado do óleo essencial de V. surinamensis estava diretamente relacionado à propriedade antimalárica. Os compostos neolignanas virolina sirinamensina isolados das folhas de V. surinamensis estavam relacionados à atividade cercaricida. Para a atividade tripanocida, os compostos veraguensina e grandisina lignanas também isolados das folhas da planta demonstraram tal atividade. Compostos como flavonóides e epicatequina isolados do extrato etanólico de V. surinamensis demonstraram atividade gastroprotetora. Já a epicatequina proveniente da resina de V. surinamensis apontou atividade antiulcerogênica. O presente trabalho revisou as propriedades médicas, terapêuticas e farmacológicas de Virola surinamensis.

A Carapa guianensis, conhecida popularmente como andiroba, pertence à família das plantas Meliaceae. O óleo extraído da semente da andiroba é espesso, de cor amarelo-escura, e é utilizado como matéria-prima para iluminação de lamparinas e na indústria de cosméticos para fabricação de loções, xampus, cremes e sabonetes. Além disso, a andiroba também possui atributos terapêuticos e farmacológicos, com propriedades genotóxicas, anti-helmínticas, cicatrizantes, tripanocidas, leishmanicidas, repelentes, larvicidas, antialérgicas, anti-inflamatórias, acaricidas, antimaláricas, antioxidantes e antitumorais. O presente trabalho revisou as propriedades médicas, terapêuticas e farmacológicas de Carapa guianensis. Quanto à atividade genotóxica, não foi encontrada toxicidade ao DNA dos animais testados. Os compostos responsáveis pela atividade curativa no óleo de semente foram tanininos, saponinas e alcalóides. Não foram encontrados compostos responsáveis pela atividade tripanocida. Os compostos responsáveis pela atividade leishmanicida foram ácidos graxos e compostos fenólicos. Não foram encontrados compostos responsáveis pela atividade repelente e larvicida. Tetranortriterpenóides foram considerados responsáveis pela atividade anti-alérgica e anti-inflamatória. Não foram encontrados compostos responsáveis pela atividade acaricida. 6α- acetoxiquedunina foi o composto responsável pela atividade antimalárica. Na atividade antioxidante e antitumoral do óleo de semente não foram encontrados compostos envolvidos.

This study aims to characterize the psychosocial impact of COVID-19 lockdown for post-bariatric surgery (>= 36 months) women and its association with disordered eating and psychological distress. The medium to longtime follow up is a period of increased susceptibility for poorer weight outcomes which might be triggered by the lockdown. Twenty-four participants responded to an online questionnaire and a telephone interview. About half (n = 14; 58.3%) reported perceived weight gain during the lockdown, 13 (54.1%) limited access to social support, and 12 (50%) limited access to medical care. Co-habiting with a higher number of persons during lockdown was associated with fewer difficulties in dealing with emotionally activating situations, less fear of gaining weight, less fear of losing control over eating, and less disordered eating. The global perceived psychosocial impact of lockdown was significantly correlated with difficulties in dealing with emotionally activating situations and stress symptoms. When five partners from Austria, Netherlands, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden and Portugal came together three years ago to create a joint project for Social Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurship in Education, they did not imagine that in late 2019/1st semester of 2020 this would be so relevant. Indeed, the occurrence of a pandemic called COVID-19 has largely destroyed, if not all, the objectives of the global and capitalist society where the western world lived. Previously, bodies like the United Nations (UN) had already stressed the urgent need for joint work by all societies worldwide for Sustainable Development. This concept encompasses many realities from environmental issues, to the eradication of hunger and poverty in the world, to gender equality or the need to create sustainable cities and communities. Two documents stand out and guide human behaviors until 2030 and 2063, respectively the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2063 Agenda for Africa. The child of today is the adult of tomorrow; therefore, the programs and teaching activities of Basic Education must educate for the world that you want to have in 2030 and 2063. The present work presents the new teaching strategies followed and the technologies of education support used in the implementation of the UKIDS pilot project.

BackgroundHigh-quality data is crucial for guiding decision making and practicing evidence-based healthcare, especially if previous knowledge is lacking. Nevertheless, data quality frailties have been exposed worldwide during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Focusing on a major Portuguese surveillance dataset, our study aims to assess data quality issues and suggest possible solutions.MethodsOn April 27th 2020, the Portuguese Directorate-General of Health (DGS) made available a dataset (DGSApril) for researchers, upon request. On August 4th, an updated dataset (DGSAugust) was also obtained. The quality of data was assessed through analysis of data completeness and consistency between both datasets.ResultsDGSAugust has not followed the data format and variables as DGSApril and a significant number of missing data and inconsistencies were found (e.g. 4,075 cases from the DGSApril were apparently not included in DGSAugust). Several variables also showed a low degree of completeness and/or changed their values from one dataset to another (e.g. the variable ‘underlying conditions’ had more than half of cases showing different information between datasets). There were also significant inconsistencies between the number of cases and deaths due to COVID-19 shown in DGSAugust and by the DGS reports publicly provided daily.ConclusionsThe low quality of COVID-19 surveillance datasets limits its usability to inform good decisions and perform useful research. Major improvements in surveillance datasets are therefore urgently needed - e.g. simplification of data entry processes, constant monitoring of data, and increased training and awareness of health care providers - as low data quality may lead to a deficient pandemic control.

Objective: This study aims to explore associations between disordered eating behaviors in adults during the COVID-19 lockdown period, and the experienced psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, depressive symptomatology, anxiety/stress levels.Methods: This was a community-based cross-sectional study assessing 254 Portuguese adults (82.7% women; 35.82 ±11.82 years) one week after the end of the mandatory COVID-19 lockdown in Portugal. An online survey was conducted to evaluate psychological distress, disordered eating, and psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pearson correlations and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were performed.Results: Participants reported the presence of meal skipping (52.8%), grazing eating behavior (80.9%), overeating (81.0%), loss of control over eating (47.2%), and binge eating episodes (39.2%) during lockdown. Uncontrolled and emotional eating were significantly correlated with the psychosocial impact of COVID-19 pandemic, depression, anxiety, and stress levels. SEM analyses indicated that the relationship between experienced psychosocial impact of COVID-19 pandemic on disordered eating behaviors was mediated through psychological distress experienced (CMIN/DF= 1.499, CFI = .99, RMSEA = .045).Conclusions: The psychosocial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis may lead to disordered eating, and this relation may occur through the elevation of psychological distress. These findings inform about clinical targets for preventive interventions to promote disordered eating in a community sample during potential similar future situations.

Since 1963, the World Health Organization has acknowledged pharmacovigilance as a priority area in global public health, guaranteeing permanent monitoring of drug safety. This study aimed to characterize the reports of adverse drug reactions received by the Porto Pharmacovigilance Centre (UFPorto), Portugal, in the unit's two decades of work. The analysis included all reports of suspected adverse drug reactions received from January 2001 to December 2019. We calculated the annual reporting rates and distribution by origin, type of notifier and place of work, severity, prior knowledge, and causality of the reported adverse drug reactions. During the study period, UFPorto received 9,711 notifications of suspected adverse drug reactions. Hospital institutions reported the most suspected adverse drug reactions (n = 6,003; 64%), as did physicians among healthcare workers (n = 5,284; 54.4%). The most frequently reported adverse events were severe (n = 6,275; 72%) and are described in the respective Summary of Product Characteristics (n = 6,978; 72%). Most of the reports received by UFPorto were evaluated as having "probable" causality (n = 7,473; 77%), independently of the type of notifier. The results are consistent with other data previously reported in the international medical literature and official national reports. However, the underreporting rates are still higher than expected. In approximately 20 years, UFPorto has experienced an increase in its activity in various areas of drug safety.Desde 1963 que a farmacovigilância foi reconhecida como uma área prioritária na saúde pública a nível global pela Organização Mundial da Saúde, garantindo a monitorização permanente da segurança dos medicamentos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar as reações adversas a medicamentos recebidas pela Unidade de Farmacovigilância do Porto (UFPorto), Portugal, ao longo de duas décadas de atividade. Foram consideradas todas as notificações de suspeitas de reações adversas a medicamentos recebidas entre janeiro de 2001 e dezembro de 2019. Foram calculadas as taxas de notificação anuais, assim como a sua distribuição por origem, tipo de notificador e local de exercício da atividade, gravidade, conhecimento prévio e causalidade das reações adversas a medicamentos notificadas. Background During COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers (HCWs) have had high workload and have been exposed to multiple psychosocial stressors. The aim of this study was to evaluate HCWs in terms of the relative contributions of socio-demographic and mental health variables on three burnout dimensions: personal, work-related, and client-related burnout. Methods A cross-sectional study was performed using an online questionnaire spread via social networks. A snowball technique supported by health care institutions and professional organizations was applied. Results A total of 2008 subjects completed the survey. Gender, parental status, marriage status, and salary reduction were found to be significant factors for personal burnout. Health problems and direct contact with infected people were significantly associated with more susceptibility to high personal and work-related burnout. Frontline working positions were associated with all three dimensions. Higher levels of stress and depression in HCWs were significantly associated with increased levels of all burnout dimensions. Higher levels of satisfaction with life and resilience were significantly associated with lower levels of all burnout dimensions. Conclusions All three burnout dimensions were associated with a specific set of covariates. Consideration of these three dimensions is important when designing future burnout prevention programs for HCWs.

The Portuguese Severe Asthma Registry (RAG) is a national web-based disease registry of adult and pediatric patients with severe asthma. Since its launch, plans for collaborative research were established. This study aims to describe the baseline characteristics of the patients included in RAG and the planned research activities. RAG collects real-life data patients with severe asthma followed at specialized care centres (Global Initiative for Asthma step 4/5). RAG’s data are collected at the time of routine medical appointments. A total of 68 patients were included by 22 physicians. The median age was 55 yrs (P25-P75, 48-63), two patients were The management of severe asthma is still an unmet need. Further characterization of patients, treatments and asthma phenotypes may improve disease-related knowledge and ultimately optimize care pathways.

To characterize the techniques used to derive health-state utilities (HSU) in the cost-utility studies (CUS) of ophthalmic drugs.A systematic review was conducted in Pubmed/Embase until October 2019. CUS evaluating ophthalmic drugs were included. Therapeutic area, technique to derive HSU and sources of HSU were extracted. It was assessed if the HSU and the other parameters of CUS were collected from the same population. The techniques to derive HSU used in the CUS were compared to the techniques recommended by the country-specific economic evaluation guidelines.Seventy CUS were included. Forty-three (61.4%) used direct techniques to derive HSU, 19 (27.1%) used indirect, 1 (1.4%) used direct and indirect and the remaining (n = 7; 10.0%) used other or unknown techniques. Twelve (17.1%) CUS collected the HSU and the other parameters from the same population: nine (12.9%) retrieved utility data from experimental studies, two (2.9%) from observational and one (1.4%) from other sources. Forty-eight (68.6%) CUS collected the HSU and the other parameters from different populations: eight (11.4%) retrieved utility data from experimental studies, 33 (47.1%) from observational, one (1.4%) from both experimental and observational and six (8.6%) from other sources. It was not possible to identify the population from whom data were obtained in 10 (14.3%) CUS. Eleven (15.7%) CUS followed the recommendations of guidelines, 21 (30.0%) did not follow and for 38 (54.3%), it was not possible to assess.Choosing different techniques to derive HSU may result in different results, which can preclude the comparison between cost-utility studies.

Innovative drugs have been approved in ophthalmology. Thus, the number and importance of economic evaluation studies of ophthalmic drugs have been growing. This study aims to assess the methodological quality of pharmacoeconomic studies of ophthalmic drugs.A systematic search was conducted in Pubmed/Embase until November 2018 to identify full pharmacoeconomic studies evaluating ophthalmic drugs. The quality of studies was evaluated using the British Medical Journal (BMJ) checklist. Quality indicators were evaluated by Fisher's exact test. Ninety-five studies were included, 50 (52.6%) cost-utility analysis, 28 (29.5%) cost-effectiveness and 17 (17.9%) cost-effectiveness/cost-utility. All studies presented, at least, three methodological limitations. Cost-utility studies, studies conducted from a health system perspective, with time horizons longer than one-year and that rely on observational or observational and experimental data simultaneously are associated with higher quality. Only eight (8.4%) studies considered two eyes in the economic analysis and only 13 (13.7%) considered the natural history of the disease when extrapolating results for long-term analysis.The majority of the pharmacoeconomic studies were assessed as having good methodological quality, however, the methodological quality scores were sensitive to several indicators. Therefore, improving the quality of studies would enhance their usefulness in the decision-making processes.
