Este estudio investiga la utilización de los servicios de psicología en equipos de la primera división española, ligas de balonmano, baloncesto, voleibol, fútbol sala, fútbol y hockey sobre hierba. Se realizaron entrevistas personales para determinar la composición de los equipos multidisciplinares. El ratio de respuesta fue del 81,% (77 de 94). Aunque la mayoría de equipos tienen diferentes profesionales empleados en régimen de dedicación exclusiva, sólo el 15,6% de estos equipos tienen un psicólogo del deporte. Por otra parte, sólo tres equipos tienen a tiempo completo un psicólogo deportivo. Estos resultados indican que, en comparación con otros servicios profesionales, gerentes y / o entrenadores no perciben la necesidad de servicios psicológicos. Hemos descartado la hipótesis de que la mayoría de los equipos no contratan a psicólogos debido a razones financieras. Las asociaciones de psicología deportiva deberían proporcionar la importancia del psicólogo para mejorar el rendimiento deportivo.

Introducción: existe información limitada sobre la relación entre la adherencia a la dieta mediterránea (ADM) y la práctica deportiva. Objetivo: determinar la posible asociación de la práctica deportiva y el volumen de entrenamiento en bicicleta con la ADM y la influencia de la proximidad de una prueba ciclodeportiva sobre la ADM. Material y métodos: una primera evaluación de la ADM en 785 (84 mujeres) ciclistas aficionados (volumen ≥ 7 horas/semana), 514 (224 mujeres) practicantes de ciclo indoor (volumen: 2-6 horas/semana) y 718 (411 mujeres) adultos inactivos fue desarrollada en mayo, coincidiendo con la participación de los ciclistas en una prueba ciclodeportiva. Una submuestra de 359 ciclistas y 148 inactivos fueron evaluados nuevamente en noviembre, en fecha alejada de la prueba ciclodeportiva. Se utilizó el cuestionario MEDAS-14 para valorar la ADM y un cuestionario autodiseñado para evaluar el volumen de entrenamiento. Resultados: un 40% de los sujetos evidenció alta ADM. En ambos sexos, los deportistas mostraron mayor ADM que los inactivos, con los mejores índices para los grupos de ciclistas (p < 0,001). La relación entre la ADM y el volumen de entrenamiento fue débil (hombres: r = 0,137, mujeres: r = 0,173; p < 0,001). La ADM de los ciclistas disminuyó de mayo a noviembre (p < 0,001) sin cambios en los sujetos inactivos (p = 0,535). Conclusiones: la práctica deportiva en bicicleta se asocia con una mayor ADM con limitada influencia del volumen de entrenamiento y con efectos positivos transitorios de la participación en una prueba ciclodeportiva. Introduction: There is limited information referred to the relationship between adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (AMD) and sports practice. Objective: To determinate the association of cycling practice and cycling training volume with the AMD and the influence of the participation in a high-demand cyclist event on the AMD. Material and methods: A first evaluation of AMD in 785 (84 women) amateur cyclists (volume: ≥ 7 hours/week), 514 (224 women) indoor cycling practitioners (volume: 2-6 hours/week) and 718 (411 women) inactive adults was conducted in May coinciding with the participation of cyclists in a cycling event. A subsample of 359 cyclists and 148 inactive subjects agreed to be retested in November, far from the cycling event date. The MEDAS-14 questionnaire was used to assess the AMD and a self-designed questionnaire was used to assess the volume of training. Results: 40% of subjects showed high AMD. In both sexes, athletes showed higher AMD than inactive subjects, with the highest indexes for groups of cyclists (p < 0.001). The relationship between AMD and training volume was weak (men: r = 0.137, women: r = 0.173; p < 0.001). The AMD of cyclists decreased from May to November (p < 0.001) with no significant changes in inactive subjects (p = 0.535). Conclusions: Cycling is associated to higher values of AMD with a limited influence of training volume and transient positive effects of participation in a cycling endurance event.

La Triada Oscura de la Personalidad (TOP) ha suscitado el interés creciente de la comunidad científica, debido a las aportaciones explicativas que ofrecen sus características a factores ampliamente investigados por los estudios de personalidad. Narcisismo, Maquiavelismo y Psicopatía forman parte de una constelación de factores que subyacen a variables tanto de autoconcepto como de ajuste psicológico y de relación social. Han sido escasos los trabajos que han estudiado tales constructos en contextos deportivos. Principalmente están centrados en conductas inmorales, incapacidad para la autorregulación de impulsos o configuración de creencias perfeccionistas orientadas al éxito deportivo. Con el propósito de reflejar a través de una revisión sistemática los textos científicos publicados, se describen los principales vínculos entre esta constelación de características de personalidad y otras variables en deportistas. Se han revisado los artículos originales en inglés y español publicados en las plataformas y bases de datos electrónicas Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, MEDline y EBSCO-HOST, teniendo en cuenta los principios establecidos por las declaraciones PRISMA y AMSTAR para la descripción cualitativa y cuantitativa de hallazgos en revisiones sistemáticas. De los 72 artículos identificados, sólo 29 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión establecidos. Los entrenadores y deportistas son las figuras en las que más se han investigado los rasgos de la TOP, y las variables más vinculadas son dependencia al ejercicio, perfeccionismo, liderazgo, agresividad, actitudes frente al engaño y locus de control. ABSTRACT: The Dark Triad of Personality (DTP) has received a growing interest by the scientific community, due to the explanatory contributions offered by its characteristics to factors widely investigated in the research on personality. Narcissism, Machiavellianism and Psychopathy configure a constellation of factors that underlie variables such as self-concept, psychological adjustment and social relationships. There is a lack of studies on such constructs in sports contexts, and they are mainly focused on immoral behavior, inability to self-regulate impulses and configurations of perfectionist beliefs regarding athletic success. With the purpose of reflecting the published papers within a systematic review, the main links between the dimensions of the DTP and other variables in athletes are described. Original articles in English and Spanish published in the platforms and electronic databases Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, MEDline, and EBSCO-HOST were reviewed, taking into account the principles established by the PRISMA and AMSTAR statements for the qualitative and quantitative description of findings in systematic reviews. Of the 72 articles identified, 29 met the established inclusion criteria. Coaches and athletes are the figures that have received greater interest in the study of DTP traits. The variables most related to DTP are exercise dependence, perfectionism, leadership, aggressivity, attitudes towards cheating and locus of control. RESUMO: A Tríade Sombria da Personalidade (TSP) despertou o crescente interesse da comunidade científica, devido às contribuições explicativas oferecidas por suas características a fatores amplamente investigados por estudos de personalidade. O Narcisismo, o Maquiavelismo e a Psicopatia fazem parte de uma constelação de fatores subjacentes a variáveis como autoconceito, ajuste psicológico e relacionamento social. Há uma falta de estudos sobre tais construtos em contextos esportivos, e eles são principalmente focados em comportamento imoral, incapacidade de auto-regular impulsos e configurações de crenças perfeccionistas em relação ao sucesso atlético. Com o propósito de refletir com uma revisão sistemática de textos científicos publicados, as principais relaçãos entre as dimensões do TSP e outras variáveis em atletas são descritos. Os artigos originais em inglês e espanhol publicados nas bases de datos eletrônicas Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, MEDline e EBSCO-HOST foram revisados, levando em consideração os princípios estabelecidos pelas declarações PRISMA e AMSTAR para o descrição qualitativa e quantitativa dos resultados em revisões sistemáticas. Dos 72 artigos identificados, 29 atenderam aos critérios de inclusão estabelecidos. Treinadores e atletas são os indivíduos que receberam maior interesse no estudo das características do TSP. As variáveis mais relacionadas à TSP são dependência do exercício, perfeccionismo, liderança, agressividade, atitudes frente ao engano e locus de controle.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension is often associated with skeletal-muscle weakness. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to determine the effects of an 8-week intervention combining muscle resistance, aerobic and inspiratory pressure-load exercises on upper/lower-body muscle power and other functional variables in patients with this disease. Methods: Participants were allocated to a control (standard care) or intervention (exercise) group (n = 20 each, 45 +/- 12 and 46 +/- 11 years, 60% women and 10% patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension per group). The intervention included five, three and six supervised (inhospital) sessions/week of aerobic, resistance and inspiratory muscle training, respectively. The primary endpoint was peak muscle power during bench/leg press; secondary outcomes included N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels, 6-min walking distance, five-repetition sit-to-stand test, maximal inspiratory pressure, cardiopulmonary exercise testing variables (e.g., peak oxygen uptake), health-related quality of life, physical activity levels, and safety. Results: Adherence to training sessions averaged 94 +/- 0.5% (aerobic), 98 +/- 0.3% (resistance) and 91 +/- 1% (inspiratory training). Analysis of variance showed a significant interaction (group x time) effect for leg/bench press (P < 0.001/P = 0.002), with both tests showing an improvement in the exercise group (P < 0.001) but not in controls (P > 0.1). We found a significant interaction effect (P < 0.001) for five-repetition sit-to-stand test, maximal inspiratory pressure and peak oxygen uptake (P < 0.001), indicating a training-induced improvement. No major adverse event was noted due to exercise. Conclusions: An 8-week exercise intervention including aerobic, resistance and specific inspiratory muscle training is safe for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and yields significant improvements in muscle power and other functional variables. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs (18-22 nt) that function as modulators of gene expression. Since their discovery in 1993 in C. elegans, our knowledge about their biogenesis, function, and mechanism of action has increased enormously, especially in recent years, with the development of deep-sequencing technologies. New biogenesis pathways and sources of miRNAs are changing our concept about these molecules. The study of the miRNA contribution to pathological states is a field of great interest in research. Different groups have reported the implication of miRNAs in pathologies such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, and gynecological diseases. It is also well-known that miRNAs are present in biofluids (plasma, serum, urine, semen, and menstrual blood) and have been proposed as ideal candidates as disease biomarkers. The goal of this review is to highlight the current knowledge in the field of miRNAs with a special emphasis to their role in endometriosis and the newest investigations addressing the use of miRNAs as biomarkers for this gynecological disease.

Precision Medicine is an emerging approach for the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of genetic diseases that enables clinicians to more accurately predict which treatment strategy will be optimal in a patient. The aim of Precision Medicine in Oncology is to integrate clinical, histological, and molecular data in order to obtain a deeper knowledge about the biology and genetics of an individual's tumour. Over the last few years, the implementation of new NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) technologies into clinical practice has been essential. There is a wide variety of NGS techniques that can be used in this context. The correct interpretation of molecular changes detected by these techniques is paramount for their appropriate use. In this review, a discussion is presented on the main NGS sequencing technologies that can be used to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of oncology patients.

Background: Available scientific data related to cardiac troponin I (cTnI) release after intermittent exercise is limited. It is also of interest to determine what personal or environmental factors mediate the exercise-induced release of cTnI. This study had two objectives: 1) to examine the individual release of cTnI to a basketball match; and 2) to establish the influence of athlete status as well as biological age on cTnI release. Methods: Thirty-six basketball players (12 adult elite PBA]: 27.3±4.1 years, 12 adult amateur ABA]: 29.6±2.9 years, and 12 junior elite JBA]: 16.6±0.9 years) participated in a simulated basketball match with serial assessment of cTnI at rest, immediately post-and at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h post-exercise. Results: The basketball match increased cTnI levels (pre: median range]; 0.006 0.001-0.026]; peak post: 0.024 0.004-0.244] µg/L; p=0.000), with substantial individual variability in peak values. The aim was to quantify for the first time the physical and physiological profile of professional soccer players in official games using GPS and heart rate (HR) response.Thirty professional soccer players were investigated during a half in competitive club level matches (N.=348) using GPS devices.The relative total distance was 118.9±10.7 m∙min(-1) and player's Work-To-Rest Ratio was 2.1:1. Defenders covered the lowest total distance, while Second-Strikers (2(nd)S) and Wide-Midfielders (W-MD) traveled the greatest total distance. Defenders presented the lowest Work-To-Rest Ratio values. Playing position also impacted on all sprinting performance results, except in average sprint distance and time of sprint. The number of sprints and repeated-sprint sequences recorded by the W-MD and Strikers (S) were significantly greater than any other group. The average HR recorded was 87.1%HRmax and the relationship between the external and internal load value (Effindex) was 1.4 with significant differences in both between playing positions. W-MD recorded a significantly smaller average HR than any other group and Centre-Backs showed a significantly smaller Effindex value than any other group. Conversely, W-MD showed a significantly greater Effindex value than any other group, except the 2(nd)S.This study has verified a number of statistically significant differences between the different playing positions. Coaches should be focused on the specific physical and physiological requirements of the playing positions to optimize the training prescription in soccer. The relationships between external and internal load measures among position-specific indicates that players with less overall running performance during match-play were the worst in Effindex.

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is characterized by the t(15; 17)(q22; q21), but additional chromosomal abnormalities (ACA) and other rearrangements can contribute in the development of the whole leukemic phenotype. We hypothesized that some ACA not detected by conventional techniques may be informative of the onset of APL. We performed the high-resolution SNP array (SNP-A) 6.0 (Affymetrix) in 48 patients diagnosed with APL on matched diagnosis and remission sample. Forty-six abnormalities were found as an acquired event in 23 patients (48%): 22 duplications, 23 deletions and 1 Copy-Neutral Loss of Heterozygocity (CN-LOH), being a duplication of 8(q24) (23%) and a deletion of 7(q33-qter) (6%) the most frequent copy-number abnormalities (CNA). Four patients (8%) showed CNAs adjacent to the breakpoints of the translocation. Could an aberrant microRNA (miRNA) expression profile be responsible for the changes in the angiogenic and fibrinolytic states observed in endometriotic lesions? This study revealed characteristic miRNA expression profiles associated with endometriosis in endometrial tissue and endometriotic lesions from the same patient and their correlation with the most important angiogenic and fibrinolytic factors. An important role for dysregulated miRNA expression in the pathogenesis of endometriosis is well documented. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of the relationship between angiogenic and fibrinolytic factors and miRNAs when endometrial tissue and different types of endometriotic lesions from the same patient are compared. Casecontrol study that involved 51 women with endometriosis and 32 women without the disease (controls). The miRNA expression profiles were determined using the GeneChip miRNA 2.0 Affymetrix array platform, and the results were analysed using Partek Genomic Suite software. To validate the obtained results, 12 miRNAs differentially expressed were quantified by using miRCURY LNA Universal RT microRNA PCR. Levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A), thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) proteins were quantified by ELISA. Patient endometrial tissue showed significantly lower levels of miR-202-3p, miR-424-5p, miR-449b-3p and miR-556-3p, and higher levels of VEGF-A and uPA than healthy (control) endometrium. However, tissue affected by ovarian endometrioma showed significantly lower expression of miR-449b-3p than endometrium from both controls and patients, and higher levels of PAI-1 and the angiogenic inhibitor TSP-1. A significant inverse correlation between miR-424-5p and VEGF-A protein levels was observed in patient endometrium, and an inverse correlation between miR-449b-3p and TSP-1 protein levels was observed in ovarian endometrioma. Peritoneal implants had significantly higher levels of VEGF-A than ovarian endometrioma samples. Functional studies are needed to confirm the specific targets of the miRNAs differently expressed. Differences in miRNA levels could modulate the expression of VEGF-A and TSP-1, which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. The higher angiogenic and proteolytic activities observed in eutopic endometrium from patients might facilitate the implantation of endometrial cells at ectopic sites. Heart failure (HF) induces alterations in nucleocytoplasmic transport, which is essential to the cardiomyocyte biology. The objective of this study was to analyze the changes in gene expression in human HF, particularly focusing on nucleocytoplasmic transport-related genes.

The first step in biomarkers discovery is to identify the best protocols for their purification and analysis. This issue is critical when considering peripheral blood samples (plasma and serum) that are clinically interesting but meet several methodological problems, mainly complexity and low biomarker concentration. Analysis of small molecules, such as circulating microRNAs, should overcome these disadvantages. The present study describes an optimal RNA extraction method of microRNAs from human plasma samples. Different reagents and commercially available kits have been analyzed, identifying also the best pre-analytical conditions for plasma isolation. Between all of them, the column-based approaches were shown to be the most effective. In this context, miRNeasy Serum/Plasma Kit (from Qiagen) rendered more concentrated RNA, that was better suited for microarrays studies and did not require extra purification steps for sample concentration and purification than phenol based extraction methods. We also present evidences that the addition of low doses of an RNA carrier before starting the extraction process improves microRNA purification while an already published carrier dose can result in significant bias over microRNA profiles. Quality controls for best protocol selection were developed by spectrophotometry measurement of contaminants and microfluidics electrophoresis (Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer) for RNA integrity. Selected donor and patient plasma samples and matched biopsies were tested by Affymetrix microarray technology to compare differentially expressed microRNAs. In summary, this study defines an optimized protocol for microRNA purification from human blood samples, increasing the performance of assays and shedding light over the best way to discover and use these biomarkers in clinical practice.

This work performs wind-tunnel tests to analyze the aerodynamics of wingtip devices and fences in a blended wing body aircraft (BWB). The Green aircraft concept has the BWB as a promising solution which optimally combines low-noise, fuel efficiency and consequently low-emission. This innovative approach has been consistently investigated by the Aircraft Laboratory of the São Carlos Engineering School - University of São Paulo. In previous developments, this laboratory showed the presence of cross flow on the external part of the body and an stronger vortex in the middle of the model. To avoid this undesirable effect, the first prototype has been improved by the addition of a droop and three fences. Additionally winglets and C-wings were considered in this research. Results show that wingtip devices improved the aerodynamic efficiency by the generation of an aerodynamic resultant force which has a component in the direction of the flight reducing the total drag. On the other hand, the fences showed improved efficiency at higher angles of attack.

Comunicación presentada al V Simposio Internacional de ciencias del Mar celebrado en alicante entre el 20 y el 22 de julio de 2016. Between October 2011 and March 2012 a submarine volcanic eruption took place at the offshore of El Hierro Island. The extensive study of the eruption and subsequent degassing process has allowed monitoring the newly generated volcanic edifice. Multibeam bathymetric has enabled building a digital high-resolution bathymetric model (grid 1x1 m). The preliminary analysis of the geomorphology of this volcanic eruption displays four main features: i) the edifice consists of a principal and a series of secondary cones distributed in NW-SE trend; ii) two escarpments NE-SW directed that partially match with inherited flanks of the previously existing valley; iii) three crests, one of them interpreted as the prolongation of a NE-SW scarp and the other as the head of gravitational instabilities of NE-SW and N-S direction at the main hill; and iv) mixed lava and dense pyroclastic flows extended from the volcanic edifice to the southwest and characterized by a high slope front, that probably represents the maximum distance reached by the main lava products.
