In this paper, we consider a mixed dividend strategy in a dual risk model. The mixed dividend strategy is the combination of a threshold dividend and a Parisian implementation delays dividend under periodic observation. Given a series of discrete observation points, when the surplus level is larger than the predetermined bonus barrier at observation point, the Parisian implementation delays dividend is immediately carried out, and the threshold dividend is performed continuously during the delayed period. We study the Gerber-Shiu expected discounted penalty function and the expected discounted dividend payments before ruin in such a dual risk model. Numerical illustrations are given to study the influence of relevant parameters on the ruin-related quantities and the selection of the optimal dividend barrier for a given initial surplus level.

Cancer nanomedicine combined with immunotherapy has emerged as a promising strategy for the treatment of cancer. However, precise regulation of the activation of antitumor immunity in targeting tissues for safe and effective cancer immunotherapy remains challenging. Herein, we report a tumor acidic microenvironment-responsive promodulator iron oxide nanoparticle (termed as FGR) with pH-activated action for photothermal-enhanced chemodynamic immunotherapy of cancer. FGR is formed via surface-modifying iron oxide nanoparticles with a dextran-conjugated Toll-like receptor agonist (R848) containing an acid-labile bond. In an acidic tumor microenvironment, the acid-responsive bonds are hydrolyzed to trigger the specific release of R848 to promote the maturation of dendritic cells. In addition, iron oxide nanoparticles within FGR exert photothermal and chemodynamic effects under near-infrared laser irradiation to directly kill tumor cells and induce immunogenic cell death. The synergistic effect of the released immunogenic factors and the acid-activated TLR7/8 pathway stimulates the formation of strong antitumor immunity, resulting in increased infiltration of cytotoxic CD8

Representative research advances of biodegradable nanomaterials with respect to the mechanism of degradation and their application in tumor imaging and therapy are summarized, and their research perspectives are indicated.

Network mutual aid platforms is one of the popular risk-sharing models in recent years, and they have almost 200 million members in China. However, current mutual aid platforms does not satisfy the actuarial rules in either the apportionment method or the pricing principle. Hence, a variety of mutual aid models which enable mutual aid members with different risks to exchange their risks in a transparent and actuarial fair way have been proposed in this paper. Besides, the decision-making frameworks for participants choosing between the mutual aid platform and similar insurance products, or choosing no risk sharing are constructed, respectively. Decisions are made based on the principle of maximizing expected utility. Moreover, the optimization problems of maximizing profit and minimizing risk are constructed, respectively. Through the principle of individual fairness and relative fairness, the problem of adverse selection of the platform can also be reduced. Finally, the actual mutual aid plan is compared with similar insurance products to discuss the advantages of the optimized plan.

Immunotherapy has been used for cancer treatment, while it faces the common dilemmas of low therapeutic efficacy and serious immunotoxicity. In this study, we report the construction of a tumor microenvironment and near-infrared (NIR) light dual-responsive prodrug hydrogel for cancer synergistic immunotherapy in a more effective and safe manner. Such prodrug hydrogels were in-situ formed via calcium-induced gelation of alginate solution containing protoporphyrin IX (PpIX)-modified iron oxide (Fesub3/subOsub4/sub) nanoparticles and programmed death ligand 1 antibody (aPD-L1) prodrug nanoparticles crosslinked by reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive linkers. PpIX served as a photosensitizer to produce singlet oxygen (sup1/supOsub2/sub) under NIR laser irradiation for photodynamic therapy (PDT), and Fesub3/subOsub4/subnanoparticles mediated chemodynamic therapy (CDT) to generate hydroxyl radical (·OH) via Fenton reaction in the tumor microenvironment. In view of the cumulative actions of PDT and CDT, amplified ROS was generated to not only induce immunogenic cell death (ICD), but also destroy ROS-responsive linkers to achieve on-demand release of aPD-L1 from prodrug nanoparticles. Boosted antitumor immunity was elicited in tumor-bearing mice due to the aPD-L1-mediated immune checkpoint blocking. As a result, the prodrug hydrogel-based synergistic immunotherapy could almost treat bilateral tumors and prevent lung and liver metastasis using 4T1 tumor mouse models. This study thus offers a dual-responsive prodrug hydrogel platform for precision cancer immunotherapy. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Via calcium-induced gelation of alginate, we constructed a prodrug hydrogel with tumor microenvironment and near-infrared light dual-responsive action for synergistic cancer immunotherapy. Such hydrogels can achieve on-demand release of aPD-L1 upon photoactivation in the tumor microenvironment. Through mediating photodynamic and chemodynamic therapy, the prodrug hydrogels can induce enhanced immunogenic cell death and synergistically improve the efficacy of aPD-L1-mediated immune checkpoint blocking. The prodrug hydrogel-based synergistic therapy almost deracinates the primary and distant tumors, and prevents lung and liver metastasis in tumor mouse models.

Introduction: Carbon dioxide emissions from non-volcanic areas are undervalued in the carbon cycle.Methods: First estimates of diffuse CO2 flux from the Anninghe—Zemuhe fault (AZF), Southeastern Tibetan Plateau, China, which suggests this could equal 15% emissions from all volcanoes in China. Following the accumulation chamber method, CO2 flux was investigated at 1,483 points, and along 67 profiles crossing the AZF. Results and discussion: Total CO2 emissions from the AZF were estimated 1.2 Mt yr-1. The relationship between soil gas CO2 fluxes, earthquakes, and fault activity was discussed. The intense fault activity in the southern part of the Zemuhe fault (ZMHF) and the northern part of the Anninghe fault (ANH) was inferred, which could have enhanced the porosity of the soil, and accelerated the water-rock interactions and soil gas emission within the fault zone. The chemical and isotopic data indicated that biogenic CO2 was the primary source of CO2 from the AZF. Produced by interactions between groundwaters and carbonates, soil gas CO2 could migrate to the near surface through cracks. Spatial variations of CO2 flux in soil gas indicate that seismic activity could be responsible for the jumpy variations of CO2 flux. The diffuse CO2 from deep faults may contribute considerably to the greenhouse gas cycles.

Human health and environmental protection demand wood-based panel industry for innovative soy-based adhesives with high production efficiency, straightforward synthesis processes, non-toxicity, and high bonding performance. A simple and efficient microwave pretreatment process and low addition of bio-derived crosslinking agent was used in this study to prepare a non-toxic and high-bonding performance soybean protein-based adhesive. After 4 min of microwave pretreatment time, the complex quaternary structure of soybean protein molecule unfolds, the soybean protein disperses evenly and stably, and active groups of soybean protein molecules are exposed. After adding 3.85% crosslinking agent, the moisture absorption rate of the soybean protein-based adhesive decreases by 41.77%, the residual rate increases by 3.68%, and the wet shear strength of the resultant plywood increases to 1.12 MPa, which satisfies requirement of interior use plywood. Compared with previously reported soy-based adhesives, this adhesive is dependent on fewer chemical reagents, but has good bonding performance. The 204.41% of relative cell viability indicates the resultant adhesive was non-toxic. The proposed high-efficiency, high-performance, non-toxic biomass adhesive has great prospects for the industrial application.

SnRK2 protein kinase family plays an important role in plant response to abiotic stress and has been identified in various plants. This study aimed to identify SnRK2 genes in tobacco and systematically analyze their expression under abscisic acid treatment and abiotic stress. We identified 22 NtSnRK2 members, which were divided into three groups and located on 13 chromosomes, mainly at both ends of the chromosomes; additionally, 11 duplicated NtSnRK2 gene pairs were observed. Phylogenetic analysis showed that these SnRK2 members were divided into three groups in tobacco. The motifs of NtSnRK2 proteins in the same group were highly similar. Subcellular localization indicated that NtSnRK2s in Group3 were present in the nucleus, cytomembrane, and cytoplasm. Gene expression pattern analysis revealed that NtSnRK2 genes played a role in the responses to several abiotic stresses (salt, drought, and low-temperature stress), indicating that they are widely involved in the adaptation of tobacco to adverse environmental conditions.

The development of photothermal agents (PTAs) with robust photostability and high photothermal conversion efficiency is of great importance for cancer photothermal therapy. Herein, a novel PTA was created using two-dimensional intermetallic PtSnBi nanoplates (NPs), which demonstrated excellent photostability and biocompatibility with a high photothermal conversion efficiency of ~61% after PEGylation. More importantly, PtSnBi NPs could be employed as photoacoustic imaging contrast agents for tumor visualization due to their strong absorbance in the NIR range. In addition, both in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that PtSnBi NPs had a good photothermal efficacy under NIR laser irradiation. Therefore, the remarkable therapeutic characteristics of PtSnBi NPs make them make them a most promising candidate for cancer theranostics.

The maturity of fresh tobacco leaves affects the browning of leaves to differing degrees during the curing process, thus affecting the quality of cured tobacco leaves. In this study, tobacco leaves of increasing maturity (M1–M4) were selected. Dark-box experiments were performed to investigate the roasting characteristics and relationship between tobacco leaf maturity and browning and to determine their polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and qualities. We found that mature tobacco leaves (M3) had high substance accumulation, and the PPO activity decreased throughout the baking process. After 72 h of curing, the PPO activity in the M3 leaves was 81.22 U/g, which was significantly different from that in M1 and M2. On this basis, three different browning inhibitors (control: 10 mL of distilled water; T1:10 mL of 0.5% citric acid+0.5% polyphenol; and T2:10 mL 0.5% citric acid+0.5% salicylic acid) were sprayed onto the surface of M2 leaves before curing to observe their inhibitory effects. The T2-treated leaves showed inhibited PPO activity, and after baking for 72 h, the peroxidase enzyme (POD) content of the T2-treated leaves was higher, which effectively inhibited the enzymatic reaction. In conclusion, to reduce the browning ratio of tobacco leaves during the curing process, the harvested tobacco leaves should be allowed to reach full maturity when the values of Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) chlorophyll meter ranged 9–13, and 0.5% citric acid+0.5% salicylic acid (T2) should be used as a browning inhibitor to produce tobacco with the highest sensory quality. The results of this study can help inhibit browning and maintaining the quality of the tobacco leaves during the curing process.

Overexpression of estrogen receptors (ERs) is one of the important characteristics of most breast cancers. We aim to develop a new type of ER-specific radioiodine-labeled estrogen derivative ([131I]IPBA-EE), which was modified with an albumin-specific ligand 4-(p-iodophenyl) butyric acid (IPBA) to improve the metabolic stability and enhance the ER-targeting ability of estrogen. [131I]IPBA-EE can effectively bind to albumin in vitro, and its dissociation constant (Kd = 0.31 μM) is similar to IPBA (Kd = 0.30 μM). The uptake of [131I]IPBA-EE in ER-positive MCF-7 cells (41.81 ± 3.41%) was significantly higher than that in ER-negative MDA-MB-231 cells (8.78 ± 2.37%, ***P < 0.0005) and could be significantly blocked (3.92 ± 0.35%, ***P < 0.0005). The uptakes of [131I]IPBA-EE in rat uterus and ovaries were 5.66 ± 0.34% ID/g and 5.71 ± 2.77% ID/g, respectively, at 1 h p.i., and these uptakes could be blocked by estradiol (uterus: 2.81 ± 0.41% ID/g, *P < 0.05; ovarian: 3.02 ± 0.08% ID/g, *P < 0.05). SPECT/CT imaging showed that ER-positive MCF-7 tumor uptake of [131I]IPBA-EE reached to 6.07 ± 0.20% ID/g at 7 h p.i., which was significantly higher than that of ER-negative MDA-MB-231 tumor (0.87 ± 0.08% ID/g, **P < 0.005) and could be blocked obviously with fulvestrant (1.65 ± 1.56% ID/g, *P < 0.05). In conclusion, a novel radioiodinated estradiol derivative, [131I]IPBA-EE with albumin-binding property and good metabolic stability, was developed to image the ER in breast cancer. This promising ER-targeted probe has the potential to warrant further preclinical investigations.

Geochemical investigation on the origin and circulation of geothermal water is crucial for better understanding the interaction between hydrosphere and lithosphere. Previous studies on the Himalayan geothermal belt mainly distributed in the central and eastern Tibetan Plateau. In this study, water samples (8 hot springs and 1 cold spring) from the Karakorum fault (KKF) zone of western Tibetan Plateau were analyzed for the hydrogeochemical characteristics and isotopic compositions. Three types of spring water along the KKF were classified on basis of ionic concentration and Sr isotopic composition: type A water (HCO3–Mg or Ca), type B water (HCO3–Na) and type C water (Cl–Na). Type A water is originated from the infiltration of meteoric water and the dissolution of silicate/evaporite. Type B water is mainly leached from the metamorphic and granitoid rocks. Type C water is formed by the dissolution of chlorides and sulphates. δD and δ18O isotopes indicate that geothermal fluid along the fault zone was mainly recharged by local precipitation. Moreover, reservoir temperatures of 144.2–208.6°C were estimated by the silica–enthalpy mixing model, and the thermal waters have a relatively deep circulation depth (≥ 7.0 km). Meanwhile, the thermal waters are characterized by extremely high Li, B, Fe and As concentrations and earthquakes frequently happened in the vicinity, suggesting that the KKF is a deep and active fault, which also indicates that the thermal fluids are strongly associated with seismicity. Therefore, thermal fluid can potentially be used as continuous monitoring sites for earthquake forecasting.

Immunotherapy is an attractive approach for cancer therapy, while its antitumor efficacy is still limited, especially for non-immunogenic tumors. Nanomedicines can be utilized to convert the non-immunogenic "cold" tumors to immunogenic "hot" tumors via inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD), thereby promoting the antitumor immune response. Some nanomedicines that can produce local heat and reactive oxygen species upon the stimulation of electromagnetic energy are the main candidates for inducing the ICD effect. However, their applications are often restricted due to the poor tissue penetration depths of electromagnetic energy, such as light. By contrast, ultrasound, X-ray, alternating magnetic field, and microwave show excellent tissue penetration depths and thereby can be used for sonodynamic therapy, radiotherapy, magnetic hyperthermia therapy, and microwave ablation therapy, all of which can effectively induce ICD. Herein, the combination of deep-tissue electromagnetic energy with nanomedicines for inducing ICD and cancer immunotherapy are summarized. In particular, the designs of nanomedicines to amplify ICD effect in the presence of deep-tissue electromagnetic energy and sensitize tumors to various immunotherapies will be discussed. At the end of this review, a brief conclusion and discussion of current challenges and further perspectives in this subfield are provided. With the advantages of high safety and selectivity, photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been widely used for cancer treatments, while the anticancer efficacy is often limited because of its relying on oxygen concentrations. Therefore, sole PDT fails to achieve the desired therapeutic effect for hypoxic tumors. To address this issue, we herein report the construction of prodrug and glucose oxidase (GOx) coloaded alginate (ALG) hydrogels for PDT-combined chemotherapy of melanoma. The hydrogels are in situ formed in tumor sites after injection of ALG solution containing semiconducting polymer nanoparticles, hypoxia-responsive prodrug tirapazamine (TPZ), and GOx, which is based on chelation of ALG by endogenous Casup2+/sup. Due to the presence of semiconducting polymer nanoparticles acting as photosensitizers, the hydrogels mediate PDT to produce singlet oxygen (sup1/supOsub2/sub) for directly killing tumor cells, in which oxygen is consumed to create a more hypoxic tumor microenvironment. Moreover, the loaded GOx within hydrogels can deplete oxygen to further aggravate tumor hypoxia. As such, TPZ is effectively activated by hypoxia to cause cancer cell death via chemotherapy. Thus, the hydrogels with laser irradiation achieve a combinational action of PDT with chemotherapy to almost completely eradicate tumors, leading to a much higher therapeutic efficacy relative to sole PDT. This study will provide a promising injectable hydrogel platform for effective treatments of cancer.

The rapid development of wearable electronics urges for flexible thermal management materials with higher service performance and stability of operation under high-complexity environmental stresses. A liquid metal embedded elastomer (LMEE) offers a combined solution with both high flexibility and thermal conductivity to heat dissipation of wearable electronics. But the potential leakage of the liquid metal (LM) in LMEE under external force severely limits the application of LMEE in the field of flexible thermal management. Inspired by a traditional Chinese snack, "fried milk", we herein modify the two-dimensional boron nitride (BN) by thiolation, so as to develop LM@BN core-shell particles through the formation of a protective layer around micron-sized LM particles using thiol-metal interactions, before the flexible thermal management material with high stability is finally prepared by the combination between the LM@BN particles and a silicone rubber elastomer. The results demonstrated that the LM@BN core-shell structure can effectively maintain the balance between the tensile property, the thermal conductivity, and the stability of the material, thereby facilitating the future application of LM-elastomer composites with regard to flexible thermal management and thermal interface materials.

As a new type of organic optical nanomaterials, semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) have the advantages of good optical characteristics and photostability, low toxicity concerns, and relatively simple preparation processes. Particularly, near-infrared (NIR) absorbing SPNs have shown a great promise in biomedicine. In addition to acting as nanoprobes for molecular imaging, these SPNs can produce local heat and reactive oxygen species with the stimulation of NIR light, allowing photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), respectively. Herein, we summarize the recent development of SPN-based nanomedicines for cancer therapy. The rational designs of SPNs for enhanced PTT, PDT, or combinational PTT/PDT to achieve effective ablation of tumor tissues are highlighted. Via loading/conjugating SPNs with other therapeutic elements (such as chemotherapeutic drugs and immunotherapeutic agents), phototherapy-combined chemotherapy or immunotherapy can be realized, which is then discussed. In especial, the constructions of SPN-based nanomedicines for NIR photoactivatable chemotherapy and immunotherapy are introduced with representative examples. Finally, we discuss the current challenges and key concerns of SPNs for their biomedical applications and give an outlook for their future clinical translation. BackgroundThe strategy of ablation index (AI)-guided high-power ablation seems to be a novel strategy for performing pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). An AI-guided high-power ablation strategy was used in this study to determine whether superior vena cava isolation (SVCI) after PVI was feasible and safe for patients with AF.MethodsData from 53 patients with AF were collected. Mapping and ablation of SVC were performed. The applied power was set at 45 W and the procedure was guided by AI. The SVC was divided into six segments in a cranial view. The RF applications and AI values in different segments were compared and analyzed. Using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, the diagnostic accuracy of AI value for predicting segment block was evaluated.ResultsElectrical SVCIs were successfully achieved in all patients. SVCI was performed by segment ablation in most cases, with RF applications in different segments. The mean AI value in non-lateral walls was higher than that of the lateral wall (392 ± 28 vs. 371 ± 37, P < 0.001). Acutely blocked sites had significantly larger AI values compared with no-blocked sites (390 ± 30 vs. 343 ± 23, P < 0.001). The optimal AI cut-off value for non-lateral segments was 379 (sensitivity: 75.9%, specificity: 100%) and for lateral segments was 345 (sensitivity: 82.3%, specificity: 100%).ConclusionThe AI values were predictive of the acute conduction block of SVCI. With AI values of 345 and 379, respectively, conduction block was achieved in the lateral walls at a lower level than in the non-lateral walls.

Nanomedicine holds promise to enhance cancer immunotherapy; however, its potential to elicit highly specific anti-tumor immunity without compromising immune tolerance has yet to be fully unlocked. This study develops deep-tissue activatable cancer sono-immunotherapy based on the discovery of a semiconducting polymer that generates sonodynamic singlet oxygen (1O2) substantially higher than other sonosensitizers. Conjugation of two immunomodulators via 1O2-cleavable linkers onto this polymer affords semiconducting polymer immunomodulatory nanoparticles (SPINs) whose immunotherapeutic actions are largely inhibited. Under ultrasound irradiation, SPINs generate 1O2 not only to directly debulk tumors and reprogram tumor microenvironment to enhance tumor immunogenicity, but also to remotely release the immunomodulators specifically at tumor site. Such a precision sono-immunotherapy eliminates tumors and prevents relapse in pancreatic mouse tumor model. SPINs show effective antitumor efficacy even in a rabbit tumor model. Moreover, the sonodynamic activation of SPINs confines immunotherapeutic action primarily to tumors, reducing the sign of immune-related adverse events. Electrospun nanofibers have been frequently used for tissue engineering due to their morphological similarities with the extracellular matrix (ECM) and tunable chemical and physical properties for regulating cell behaviors and functions. However, most of the existing electrospun nanofibers have a closely packed two-dimensional (2D) membrane with the intrinsic shortcomings of limited cellular infiltration, restricted nutrition diffusion, and unsatisfied thickness. Three-dimensional (3D) electrospun nanofiber-based scaffolds can provide stem cells with 3D microenvironments and biomimetic fibrous structures. Thus, they have been demonstrated to be good candidates for in vivo repair of different tissues. This review summarizes the recent developments in 3D electrospun nanofiber-based scaffolds (ENF-S) for tissue engineering. Three types of 3D ENF-S fabricated using different approaches classified into electrospun nanofiber 3D scaffolds, electrospun nanofiber/hydrogel composite 3D scaffolds, and electrospun nanofiber/porous matrix composite 3D scaffolds are discussed. New functions for these 3D ENF-S and properties, such as facilitated cell infiltration, 3D fibrous architecture, enhanced mechanical properties, and tunable degradability, meeting the requirements of tissue engineering scaffolds were discovered. The applications of 3D ENF-S in cartilage, bone, tendon, ligament, skeletal muscle, nerve, and cardiac tissue regeneration are then presented with a discussion of current challenges and future directions. Finally, we give summaries and future perspectives of 3D ENF-S in tissue engineering and clinical transformation.

With the continuous development of the electronics industry, the energy density of modern electronic devices increases constantly, thus releasing a lot of heat during operation. Modern electronic devices take higher and higher request to the thermal interface materials. Achieving high thermal conductivity needs to establish an interconnecting thermal conductivity network in the matrix. For this purpose, the suspension of Al2O3 and curdlan was first foamed to construct a bubble-templated continuous ceramic framework. Owing to the rapid gelation property of curdlan, we can easily remove moisture by hot air drying. Finally, the high thermally conductive composites are prepared by vacuum impregnation of silicone rubber. The result showed that composites prepared by our method have higher thermal conductivity than the samples obtained by traditional method. The thermal conductivity of the prepared composite material reached 1.253 W·m−1·K−1 when the alumina content was 69.6 wt%. This facile method is expected to be applied to the preparation of high-performance thermal interface materials.
