Synthesis of mesoporous material by pillaring of magadiite with silica was investigated. For pillaring reactive silica gel with composition characteristic for the synthesis of MCM-41 was used. The composite samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, TG-DTA, IR and BET methods. Increased mechanical stability of the composite was proven. The acidity of surface OH groups were studied by adsorption of pyridine monitored by IR spectroscopy. The results revealed the presence of both Bronsted and Lewis acid sites on the aluminium containing composite.
