The Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) is a dedicated photometric survey facility under construction jointly by the University of Science and Technology of China and Purple Mountain Observatory. It is equipped with a primary mirror of 2.5m in diameter, an active optical system, and a mosaic CCD camera of 0.73 Gpix on the main focus plane to achieve high-quality imaging over a field of view of 6.5 square degrees. The installation of WFST in the Lenghu observing site is planned to happen in the summer of 2023, and the operation is scheduled to commence within three months afterward. WFST will scan the northern sky in four optical bands (u, g, r, and i) at cadences from hourly/daily to semi-weekly in the deep high-cadence survey (DHS) and the wide field survey (WFS) programs, respectively. WFS reaches a depth of 22.27, 23.32, 22.84, and 22.31 in AB magnitudes in a nominal 30-second exposure in the four bands during a photometric night, respectively, enabling us to search tremendous amount of transients in the low-z universe and systematically investigate the variability of Galactic and extragalactic objects. Intranight 90s exposures as deep as 23 and 24 mag in u and g bands via DHS provide a unique opportunity to facilitate explorations of energetic transients in demand for high sensitivity, including the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational-wave events detected by the second/third-generation GW detectors, supernovae within a few hours of their explosions, tidal disruption events and luminous fast optical transients even beyond a redshift of 1. Meanwhile, the final 6-year co-added images, anticipated to reach g about 25.5 mag in WFS or even deeper by 1.5 mag in DHS, will be of significant value to general Galactic and extragalactic sciences. How the environment influences the most massive galaxies is still unclear. To explore the environmental effects on morphology and star formation in the most massive galaxies at high redshift, we select galaxies with stellar mass $\log(M_{\star}/M_{\odot})>11$ at $0.5, 13 pages, 7 figures, To be published in ApJ

We select a disk-like galaxy sample with observations of the $HI$, $H_{2}$ and dust from Herschel Reference Survey (HRS), and derive inner HI masses within the optical radius. We find that the inner gas-to-dust ratio is almost independent of gas-phase metallicity, and confirm that the inner gas mass ($HI$+$H_{2}$) shows tighter relationship with dust mass and monochromatic 500 $\mu m$ luminosity than the integral gas mass. It supports that dust is more closely associated with co-spatial cold gas than the overall cold gas. Based on the newly calibrated relationship between inner gas mass and dust mass, we predict dust masses for disk-dominated galaxies from the xCOLD GASS sample. The predicted dust masses show scaling relations consistent with fiducial ones in the literature, supporting their robustness. Additionally, we find that at a given dust mass and star formation rate (SFR), the galactic WISE W3 luminosities show significant dependence on the [NII] luminosity and the stellar mass surface density. Such dependence highlights the caveat of using the W3 luminosity as integral SFR indicator, and is consistent with findings of studies which target star-forming regions in more nearby galaxies and accurately derive dust masses based on mapping-mode spectroscopy., Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures, 3 tables. To investigate the effects of environment in the quenching phase, we study the empirical relations for green valley (GV) galaxies between overdensity and other physical properties (i.e., effective radius $r_{\rm e}$, Sérsic indices $n$, and specific star formation rate sSFR). Based on five 3D-{\it HST}/CANDELS fields, we construct a large sample of 2126 massive ($M_{\star} > 10^{10} M_{\sun}$) GV galaxies at $0.5, To be published in ApJ

Protoclusters, the progenitors of the most massive structures in the Universe, have been identified at redshifts of up to 6.6. Besides exploring early structure formation, searching for protoclusters at even higher redshifts is particularly useful to probe the reionization. Here we report the discovery of the protocluster LAGER-z7OD1 at a redshift of 6.93, when the Universe was only 770 million years old and could be experiencing rapid evolution of the neutral hydrogen fraction in the intergalactic medium. The protocluster is identified by an overdensity of 6 times the average galaxy density, and with 21 narrowband selected Lyman-$��$ galaxies, among which 16 have been spectroscopically confirmed. At redshifts similar to or above this record, smaller protogroups with fewer members have been reported. LAGER-z7OD1 shows an elongated shape and consists of two subprotoclusters, which would have merged into one massive cluster with a present-day mass of $3.7 \times 10^{15}$ solar masses. The total volume of the ionized bubbles generated by its member galaxies is found to be comparable to the volume of the protocluster itself, indicating that we are witnessing the merging of the individual bubbles and that the intergalactic medium within the protocluster is almost fully ionized. Several mechanisms for the transformation of blue star-forming to red quiescent galaxies have been proposed, and the green valley (GV) galaxies amid them are widely accepted in a transitional phase. Thus, comparing the morphological and environmental differences of the GV galaxies with early-type disks (ETDs; bulge dominated and having a disk) and late-type disks (LTDs; disk dominated) is suitable for distinguishing the corresponding quenching mechanisms. A large population of massive ($M_* \geqslant 10^{10}M_\odot$) GV galaxies at $0.5 \leqslant z \leqslant 1.5$ in 3D-HST/CANDELS is selected using extinction-corrected $(U-V)_{\rm rest}$ color. After eliminating any possible active galactic nucleus candidates and considering the "mass-matching", we finally construct two comparable samples of GV galaxies with either 319 ETD or 319 LTD galaxies. Compared to the LTD galaxies, it is found that the ETD galaxies possess higher concentration index and lower specific star formation rate, whereas the environments surrounding them are not different. This may suggest that the morphological quenching may dominate the star formation activity of massive GV galaxies rather than the environmental quenching. To quantify the correlation between the galaxy morphology and the star formation activity, we define a dimensionless morphology quenching efficiency $Q_{\rm mor}$ and find that $Q_{\rm mor}$ is not sensitive to the stellar mass and redshift. When the difference between the average star formation rate of ETD and LTD galaxies is about 0.7 $M_\odot \rm \;yr^{-1}$, the probability of $Q_{\rm mor}\gtrsim 0.2$ is higher than 90\%, which implies that the degree of morphological quenching in GV galaxies might be described by $Q_{\rm mor}\gtrsim 0.2$., 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, have been published by ApJ on June 1, 2021

Using the multi-band photometric data of all five CANDELS (Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey) fields and the near-infrared (F125W and F160W) high-resolution images of HST WFC3 (Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3), a quantitative study of morphology and structure of mass-selected galaxies is presented. The sample includes 8002 galaxies with a redshift 1 1010 M⊙. Based on the Convolutional Neural Network (ConvNet) criteria, we classify the sample galaxies into SPHeroids (SPH), Early-Type Disks (ETD), Late-Type Disks (LTD), and IRRegulars (IRR) in different redshift bins. The findings indicate that the galaxy morphology and structure evolve with redshift up to z ∼ 3, from irregular galaxies in the high-redshift universe to the formation of the Hubble sequence dominated by disks and spheroids. For the same redshift interval, the median values of effective radii (re) of different morphological types are in a descending order: IRR, LTD, ETD, and SPH. But for the Sersic index (n), the order is reversed (SPH, ETD, LTD, and IRR). In the meantime, the evolution of galaxy size (re) with the redshift is explored for the galaxies of different morphological types, and it is confirmed that their size will enlarge with time. We present the largest-ever sample of 79 Ly$��$ emitters (LAEs) at $z\sim$ 7.0 selected in the COSMOS and CDFS fields of the LAGER project (the Lyman Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization). Our newly amassed ultradeep narrowband exposure and deeper/wider broadband images have more than doubled the number of LAEs in COSMOS, and we have selected 30 LAEs in the second field CDFS. We detect two large-scale LAE-overdense regions in the COSMOS that are likely protoclusters at the highest redshift to date. We perform injection and recovery simulations to derive the sample incompleteness. We show significant incompleteness comes from blending with foreground sources, which however has not been corrected in LAE luminosity functions in {the} literature. The bright end bump in the Ly$��$ luminosity function in COSMOS is confirmed with 6 (2 newly selected) luminous LAEs (L$_{Ly��}$ $>$ 10$^{43.3}$ erg s$^{-1}$). Interestingly, the bump is absent in CDFS, in which only one luminous LAE is detected. Meanwhile, the faint end luminosity functions from the two fields well agree with each other. The 6 luminous LAEs in COSMOS coincide with 2 LAE-overdense regions, while such regions are not seen in CDFS. The bright-end luminosity function bump could be attributed to ionized bubbles in a patchy reionization. It appears associated with cosmic overdensities, thus supports an inside-out reionization topology at $z$ $\sim$ 7.0, i.e., the high density peaks were ionized earlier compared to the voids. An average neutral hydrogen fraction of $x_{HI}$ $\sim$ 0.2 -- 0.4 is derived at $z\sim$ 7.0 based on the cosmic evolution of the Ly$��$ luminosity function., 23 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

To investigate the mass dependence of structural transformation and star formation quenching, we construct three galaxy samples using massive ($M_* > 10^{10} M_{\odot}$) red, green, and blue galaxy populations at $0.5, 19 pages, 10 figures, accepted by ApJ

Utilizing the multi-band photometric data of the COSMOS (Cosmic Evolution Survey)/UltraVISTA (Ultra-deep Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) field and the high-resolution HST WFC3 (Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3) near-infrared images in the CANDELS (Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey) field, we have selected 362 galaxies with the redshifts of 1≤ z ≤3 and the stellar masses of M* ≥ 1010.5M⊙, and made the classification study on the morphologies of these massive galaxies. The results from the UVJ ((U–V) vs (V–J)) two-color diagram classification, visual classification, non-model based classification (Gini coefficient G and moment index M20), and model based classification (Sersic index n) are in good agreement with each other. Compared with the star-forming galaxies (SFGs), the quiescent galaxies (QGs) defined by the UVJ two-color diagram exhibit the compact elliptical structures, and generally have larger n and G, but smaller M20 and galaxy's effective radius re. The evolution of galaxy size with the redshift is obvious for various QG and SFG samples defined by the different classification systems (two-color diagram classification system, model and non-model based classification systems), and this evolutionary tendency is stronger for QGs in comparison with SFGs, independent to the selection of galaxy classification methods.

The stellar mass-metallicity relation ($M_* - Z$, MZR) indicates that the metallicities of galaxies increase with increasing stellar masses. The fundamental metallicity relation (FMR) suggests that the galaxies with higher star formation rates (SFRs) tend to have lower metallicities for a given stellar mass. To examine whether the MZR and FMR still hold at poorer metallicities and higher redshifts, we compile a sample of 35 star-forming galaxies (SFGs) at $0.6, 13 pages, 7 figures; accepted by ApJ

Based on the multi-band photometric data of the COSMOS (Cosmic Evolution Survey)/Ultra VISTA (Ultra-deep Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) field, we have selected a mass-limited sample of galaxies with the redshifts of 0 3.5. And according to the rest-frame UVJ twocolor (U-V vs. V-J) criteria, we classify the sample galaxies into the star-forming galaxies (SFGs) and the quiescent galaxies (QGs) in different redshift bins. In the redshift range of 0 1.5, the fraction of QGs with a mass of M * > 10 11 M ʘ is greater than 70%. In the range of 0 3.5, the star formation rates (SFRs) of SFGs exhibit a strong main sequence (MS) relation with the stellar mass M * . For a fixed stellar mass M * , the galaxy SFR and specific SFR (sSFR) increase with the redshift, indicating that the SFGs at high redshifts are more active in star formation. Relative to the low-mass galaxies, the large-mass SFGs have a lower sSFR, implying that the growth of a low-mass galaxy is more relying on the star formation activity of itself. In combination with the data given by the other literature, it is found that for the galaxies at higher redshifts (2 8), the evolution of sSFR with the redshift becomes weak, and the evolutionary relation is sSFR∝ (1 + z ) 0.94±0.17 .

The extremely red objects (EROs) refer to one kind of galaxies selected by using the color indices in optical and near-infrared wavebands (such as I−K>4 mag). The studies indicate that the EROs are comprised of two classes: one stands for the dust-reddened star-forming galaxies with high redshifts, which are reddened by a large amount of dust, they are mainly the younger spiral galaxies and irregular galaxies with stars forming, and called the DGs, another one stands for the high-redshift elliptical galaxies, which are dominated by old stellar populations (≥ 1 Ga), with no or only with weak star formations, and simply called the OGs. The both classes of EROs are very possibly the precursors of nearby massive galaxies, and only represent the different evolutionary histories respectively. This paper has introduced the research progress on the physical properties of different classes of EROs, such as the morphology and structure, spectral feature, clustering, redshift distribution and galaxy count, as well as the direction of future studies in this field.

Using the high-resolution F160W images observed by the HST WFC3 (Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3) in the CANDELS-EGS (Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey-Extended Groth Strip) field, we have studied the morphological and structural features of 9 ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs) at z ∼ 2. We find a wide range of morphological diversity for these ULIRGs, from ellipsoids to multiple bright nuclei or diffuse structures, e.g., the double nuclei, gaseous bridges, dual asym- metries, irregular or elliptical structures. In order to study the morphology of these ULIRGs quantitatively, their morphological parameters (the Gini coeffcient G and moment index M20) are measured in the rest-frame optical wave- band. Compared with the low-redshift counterparts, the high-redshift ULIRGs show a smaller value of G and a larger value of M20, indicating a less concen- tricity and a larger asymmetry of the stellar population distribution in these ULIRGs. Based on a 2-D fitting of the brightness profiles of these ULIRGs, we have derived their effective radii, which are distributed in a range from 2.4 to kpc, with a mean value of (3.9 ± 1.1) kpc. Moreover, we find that in average the sizes of the high-redshift ULIRGs are one to two times smaller than those of the nearby star-forming galaxies of analogous stellar mass. Our results are consistent with those of other studies under the similar conditions of redshift and infrared luminosity.

In recent years the number of worldwide 8∼10 m-class ground-based telescopes is continually increased, the 4 m-diameter or smaller telescopes have become the small and medium-sized telescopes. In order to obtain some noticeable scientific results by using these existing small and medium-sized telescopes, we have to consider very carefully what we can do, and what we can not. For this reason, the Time Allocation Committee of the 2.16 m telescope of the National Astronomical observatories of China (NAOC) has decided to support some key projects since 2013. The long-term project “Spectroscopic Observations of the Star Formation Regions in Nearby Galaxies” proposed by us is one of three key projects, it is supported by the committee with 30 dark/grey nights in each of three years. The primary goal of this project is to make the spectroscopic observations of the star formation regions along the directions parallel and perpendicular to the main-axes of 20 nearby galaxies with the NAO 2.16 m telescope and the Hec-tospec multi-fiber spectrograph on the 6.5 m MMT (Multiple Mirror Telescope) via the Telescope Access Program (TAP). With the spectra of a large sample of star formation regions, combining with the exising multi-wavelength data from UV to IR, we can study the galaxy dust extinction, star formation rate, metal abundance, and the two-dimensional distributions of stellar population proper-ties, as well as the relationships of the galaxy two-dimensional properties with the galaxy morphologies and environments. As the first paper of this project, we describe here the scientific objectives, sample selection, observation strategy, and present the preliminary result of the spectroscopic observation towards the galaxy NGC 2403.

This paper aims at the real-time problem in the output process of multi-threaded queue test data for the cigarette industry filter rod forming equipment. Under the premise that the existing process quality inspection evaluation system is not suitable, this paper proposed an evaluation method on multi-threaded queue test data for multi-channel filter rod forming machine, which helps the business to establish standard through the inspection of the whole information process. Also it can participate in production process and business management at the same time, and judge the process of multi-threaded queue based on dynamic statistical analysis to ensure the real-time performance of the output result. The method ensures that the production quality of the DF10 double-rod filter rod forming machine is stable, controllable and visualised process quality in 1000 metres per minute, which fills the industry blank in this field technically.

With the multi-wavelength data from UV to sub-millimeter in the region of H-ATLAS (Herschel Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey) Science Demonstration Phase (SDP), in combination with the population synthesis model and dust model, the total infrared luminosities of the galaxies were calculated. On this basis, for respectively the strong and weak star-forming galaxies, we studied the differences in the star formation rates calculated by the UV luminosity, infrared luminosity and Hα line, as well as the intrinsic physical origin of such differences. It was found that for the galaxies of strong star-formation activity, the 3 kinds of star formation rate indicators give the basically consistent results with a small dispersion. But at the end of high star formation rate, the star formation rate calculated by the UV luminosity is slightly smaller than that calculated by the Hα-line flux; at the end of low star formation rate, the UV indicator tends to be greater than the Hα indicator; and at both ends, the infrared indicator and Hα indicator have no significant difference. For the weak star-forming galaxies, significant differences exist among the 3 kinds of indicators, and there is a rather large dispersion. The dispersions and systematic difference of the star formation rates calculated by the UV luminosity and Hα line increase with the galactic age and mass. The main cause for the increased systematic difference is that when the extinction of an weak star-forming galaxy is calibrated by its UV continuum spectral slope β, the UV extinction of the galaxy is overestimated, it makes the UV luminosity tends to be large after the extinction correction. In addition, the star formation rates (Hα) of weak starforming galaxies in the MPA/JHU (Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics/Johns Hopkins University) database are generally less than the real values.

With the sample of 105 emission line galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 4 (SDSS DR4), we have investigated the relations of the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio with the dust extinction, the ionization state of interstellar gas and the metal abundance of galaxies. It is found that the dust extinction correction has a significant effect on the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio. Before and after the dust distinction correction is made, the mean [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratios are 0.48 and 0.89, respectively. After the dust extinction is corrected, the dispersion of the distribution of F([OII]λ3727) as a function of F(Hα) is obviously reduced. The [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio of metal-poor galaxies decreases with the increasing ionization degree of interstellar gas, but this relation does not exist in metal-rich galaxies. Besides, it is found that the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio is correlated with the metal abundance. When 12 + lg(O/H) > 8.5, the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio decreases with the increasing metal abundance; for the galaxies of 12 + lg(O/H) > 8.5, the spectral flux ratio correlates positively with the metal abundance. Finally, by using the parameters of gas ionization degree and metal abundances of galaxies, the formulae for calculating the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratios of different types of galaxies are given. With the [OII]λ3727/Hα flux ratio given by these formulae, the star formation rate can be derived by using the [OII]λ3727-line flux, for the galaxies of the redshift z > 0.4, such as the large number of galaxies to be observed by the LAMOST telescope.

Introduction: The study aimed to explore the effect of microdissected thin anterolateral thigh (MTALT) perforator flap with multiple perforators on patients with complex defects on the hand, elbow, heel, or knee. Methods: From March 2012 to February 2013, 5 patients with complex defects on the hand, elbow, heel, or knee were included. During the flap preparation, 2 to 3 perforators penetrating the fascia of the anterolateral femoral area were initially detected, and the deep fascia was incised. The superficial fascia layer of the flap and the deep adipose were then dissected, and removed after verifying the distribution of the blood vessels using an operating microscope. The whole flap was then elevated, and transposed to the recipient areas for microsurgical reparation. Results: Two cases of post-burn scar contracture and 3 cases of traumatic tissue defects were successfully reconstructed with these multiple-perforator MTALT flaps. No complication was reported, and secondary operative procedure was not needed in any patient in the follow-up. Conclusion: MTALT perforator flap with multiple perforators is safe and reliable for patients with complex defects on the hand, elbow, heel, or knee.

We complement the PARSEC data base of stellar evolutionary tracks with new models of massive stars, from the pre-main sequence phase to the central carbon ignition. We consider a broad range of metallicities, 0.0001$\leq Z \leq$0.04 and initial masses up to $M_{\rm ini}=350\,M_\odot$. The main difference with respect to our previous models of massive stars is the adoption of a recent formalism accounting for the mass-loss enhancement when the ratio of the stellar to the Eddington luminosity, $\Gamma_e$, approaches unity. With this new formalism, the models are able to reproduce the Humphreys-Davidson limit observed in the Galactic and Large Magellanic Cloud colour-magnitude diagrams, without an ad hoc mass-loss enhancement. We also follow the predictions of recent wind models indicating that the metallicity dependence of the mass-loss rates becomes shallower when $\Gamma_e$ approaches unity. We thus find that the more massive stars may suffer from substantial mass-loss even at low metallicity. We also predict that the Humphreys-Davidson limit should become brighter at decreasing metallicity. We supplement the evolutionary tracks with new tables of theoretical bolometric corrections, useful to compare tracks and isochrones with the observations. For this purpose, we homogenize existing stellar atmosphere libraries of hot and cool stars (PoWR, ATLAS9 and Phoenix) and we add, where needed, new atmosphere models computed with WM-basic. The mass, age and metallicity grids are fully adequate to perform detailed investigations of the properties of very young stellar systems, both in local and distant galaxies. Using a simple two-color selection based on $g$-, $z$-, and $K$-band photometry, we pick out 1609 star-forming galaxies (sgzKs) and 422 passively evolving galaxies (pgzKs) at z\sim2$ from a $K$-band-selected sample ($K_{\rm AB} < 22.0$) in an area of $\sim 0.44$ deg$^{2}$ of the All-wavelength Extended Groth Strip International Survey. The number counts of pgzKs\ in our sample turn over at $K_{\rm AB} \sim 21.0$, and both the number of faint and bright objects (including sgzKs\ and pgzKs) exceed the predictions of a recent semi-analytic model of galaxy formation, a more successful model is need to explain this diversity. We also find that the star formation rate (SFR) and specific SFR (sSFR) of sgzKs\ increases with redshift at all masses, implying that star-forming galaxies were much more active on average in the past. Moreover, the sSFR of massive galaxies is lower at all redshifts, suggesting that star formation contributes more to the mass growth of low-mass galaxies than to high-mass galaxies. From {\it Hubble Space Telescope} Wide Field Camera 3 near-infrared imaging data, we find that morphologies of $z\sim2$ galaxies not only have diffuse structures with lower $G$ and higher $M_{20}$ values, but also have single-object morphologies (higher $G$ and lower $M_{20}$), implying that there are morphological variety and different formation process for these galaxies at $z\sim2$. Finally, we also study the fraction of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the gzKs, 82 of 828 gzKs\ with four IRAC bands can be classified as AGNs ($\sim$ 10%). This document summarizes the results of a community-based discussion of the potential science impact of the Mayall+BigBOSS highly multiplexed multi-object spectroscopic capability. The KPNO Mayall 4m telescope equipped with the DOE- and internationally-funded BigBOSS spectrograph offers one of the most cost-efficient ways of accomplishing many of the pressing scientific goals identified for this decade by the "New Worlds, New Horizons" report. The BigBOSS Key Project will place unprecedented constraints on cosmological parameters related to the expansion history of the universe. With the addition of an open (publicly funded) community access component, the scientific impact of BigBOSS can be extended to many important astrophysical questions related to the origin and evolution of galaxies, stars, and the IGM. Massive spectroscopy is the critical missing ingredient in numerous ongoing and planned ground- and space-based surveys, and BigBOSS is unique in its ability to provide this to the US community. BigBOSS data from community-led projects will play a vital role in the education and training of students and in maintaining US leadership in these fields of astrophysics. We urge the NSF-AST division to support community science with the BigBOSS multi-object spectrograph through the period of the BigBOSS survey in order to ensure public access to the extraordinary spectroscopic capability., Comment: 5 pages; this white paper was produced as input to the NSF-AST portfolio review

We present a study on Spectral Energy Distributions, Morphologies, and star formation for an IRAC-selected extremely red object sample in the GOODS Chandra Deep Field-South. This work was enabled by new HST/WFC3 near-IR imaging from the CANDELS survey as well as the deepest available X-ray data from Chandra 4 Ms observations. This sample consists of 133 objects with the 3.6um limiting magnitude of [3.6] = 21.5, and is approximately complete for galaxies with M >10^{11}M_sun at 1.5 < z < 2.5. We classify this sample into two types, quiescent and star-forming galaxies, in the observed infrared color-color ([3.6]-[24] vs K-[3.6]) diagram. The further morphological study of this sample show a consistent result with the observed color classification. The classified quiescent galaxies are bulge dominated and star-forming galaxies in the sample have disk or irregular morphologies. Our observed infrared color classification is also consistent with the rest-frame color (U-V vs V-J) classification. We also found that quiescent and star-forming galaxies are well separated in the nonparametric morphology parameter (Gini vs M_{20}) diagram measuring their concentration and clumpiness: quiescent galaxies have Gini coefficient higher than 0.58 and star forming galaxies have Gini coefficient lower that 0.58. We argue that the star formation quenching process must lead to or be accompanied by the increasing galaxy concentration. One prominent morphological feature of this sample is that disks are commonly seen in this massive galaxy sample at 1.5 < z < 2.5: 30% of quiescent galaxies and 70% of star forming galaxies with M >10^{11}M_sun have disks in their rest-frame optical morphologies. We report the discovery of eight new quasars in one extragalactic field (five degree centered at RA=$08^h58^m08.2^s$, Dec=$01^o32'29.7''$) with the LAMOST commissioning observations on December 18, 2009. These quasars, with $i$ magnitudes from 16.44 to 19.34 and redshifts from 0.898 to 2.773, were not identified in the SDSS spectroscopic survey, though six of them with redshifts less than 2.5 were selected as quasar targets in SDSS. Except one source without near-IR $Y$-band data, seven of these eight new quasars meet a newly proposed quasar selection criterion involving both near-IR and optical colors. Two of them were found in the 'redshift desert' for quasars ($z$ from 2.2 to 3), indicating that the new criterion is efficient for recovering the missing quasars with similar optical colors as stars. Although LAMOST met some problems during the commissioning observations, we were still able to identify other 38 known SDSS quasars in this field, with $i$ magnitudes from 16.24 to 19.10 and redshifts from 0.297 to 4.512. Our identifications imply that a substantial fraction of quasars may be missing in the previous quasar surveys. We apply the method of principal component analysis to a sample of simple stellar populations to select some age sensitive spectral indices. Besides the well-known age sensitive index Hβ, we also find some new age sensitive indices, G4300 and Fe4383, C24668, and Mgb. In addition, we find that these spectral indices sensitive to age depend on the metallicity of stellar population, Hβ and G4300 are more suitable to determine the age of low metallicity stellar population, while C24668 and Mgb are more suitable to the high metallicity stellar population.

To evaluate the gene-chip detecting rifaman-resistance Mycobacterium tuberculosis applied in TB diagnosis and drug-resistant detection.Mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifaman-resistant strains among 35 rifaman-resistance isolated strains and 102 sputa specimens from TB patients, 27 sputa specimens from other patients were examined the gene-chips. Results obtained were compared with sputum examination, bacteriological culture and standard drug susceptibility test of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.Thirty-five rifaman-resistance strains were detected by gene-chips and 33 were identified as rifaman-resistance strains and the concordance with the traditional drug susceptibility test of Mycobacterium tuberculosis was 94.29%. Twenty-seven sputa specimens from other patients were examined Mycobacterium tuberculosis by the gene-chips, 2 were positive, the detection specialty was 92.59%. Using three methods detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis among 102 sputa specimens the positive rate respectively was, sputum examination 35.29% (36/102), bacteriological culture 28.43% (29/102), gene-chip 77.45% (79/102). Among 102 sputa specimens only 29 examined Mycobacterium tuberculosis by the traditional drug susceptibility test and 8 were rifaman-resistant strains. While using gene-chip, there were 20 among 102 sputa specimens identified as rifaman-resistance strains. Among total 55 rifaman-resistance strains detected by the gene-chips, the most frequent mutations were those associated with codon 531 (23 of 55; 41.8%), 526 (15 of 55; 27.27%) and 516 (9 of 55; 16.36%).Results showed that this was a rapid, simple and highly specific method when using gene-chip to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifaman-resistant strains.

This paper is the fourth in a series presenting spectrophotometry of 51 globular cluster candidates, that were detected by Mochejska et al. in the nearby galaxy M33 using the data collected by the DIRECT project. The frames of M33 in this study were taken as part of the BATC Multicolor Sky Survey. We obtained the spectral energy distributions of these candidates in 13 intermediate-band filters. By comparing the integrated photometric measurements with theoretical stellar population synthesis models of Bruzual & Charlot, we estimated their ages. The BC96 models provide the evolution in time of the spectrophotometric properties of simple stellar populations for a wide range of stellar metallicity. Our results show that half of the candidates are younger than 10^8 years, whose age degeneracy is not pronounced. We also find that globular clusters formed continuously in M33 from ~4*10^6 -- 10^{10} years. Our results are in agreement with Chandar et al., who estimated ages for 35 globular clusters candidates in common by comparing the photometric measurements to integrated colors from theoretical models by Bertelli et al. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test shows that the maximum value of the absolute difference of estimated ages between Chandar et al. and us is 0.48, and the significance level probability is 100.00 per cent., 20 pages, has been accepted for publication to Acta Astronomica in Poland

In this paper we present CCD spectrophotometry of the star clusters that were detected by Chandar, Bianchi, & Ford in the nearby spiral galaxy M33, using the images obtained with the Beijing Astronomical Observatory 60/90 cm Schmidt Telescope in 13 intermediate-band filters from 3800 to 10000��. The observations cover the whole area of M33 with a total integration of 32.75 hours from September 23, 1995 to August 28, 2000. This provides a multi-color map of M33 in pixels of $1.7'' \times 1.7''$. By aperture photometry, we obtain the spetral energy distributions (SEDs) of these star clusters. Using theoretical stellar population synthesis models, we also obtain the distributions of age and metallicity of of these star clusters. These clusters formed continuously from $\sim 3\times10^6$ -- $10^{10}$ years, and have a large span of metallicity from ${\rm {Z}=0.0004}$ to ${\rm {Z}=0.05}$., 29 pages, 7 figures, will appear in the October 2001 issue of AJ

Black hole feedback has been widely implemented as the key recipe to quench star formation in massive galaxies in modern semi-analytic models and hydrodynamical simulations. As the theoretical details surrounding the accretion and feedback of black holes continue to be refined, various feedback models have been implemented across simulations, with notable differences in their outcomes. Yet, most of these simulations have successfully reproduced some observations, such as stellar mass function and star formation rate density in the local Universe. We use the recent observation on the change of neutral hydrogen gas mass (including both ${\rm H_2}$ and ${\rm HI}$) with star formation rate of massive central disc galaxies as a critical constraint of black hole feedback models across several simulations. We find that the predictions of IllustrisTNG agree with the observations much better than the other models tested in this work. This favors IllustrisTNG's treatment of active galactic nuclei - where kinetic winds are driven by black holes at low accretion rates - as more plausible amongst those we test. In turn, this also indirectly supports the idea that the massive central disc galaxy population in the local Universe was likely quenched by AGN feedback., Comment: 15 pages, 3+4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ
