The paper contains results of investigations carried out in crop fields within the protected area, which is an important refuge of species diversity in grounds dominated by large-area farms. The segetal vegetation is represented by 13 plant communities, the development of which is influenced by various tillage manipulations. As a result, the segetal flora of the Ślęża Landscape Park is heavily threatened and the structure and species richness of phytocoenoses are distinctly transformed. This is reflected in the frequency of weed occurrence in crops (i.e. there is a small group of common species and a very numerous group of species with 1 or 2 localities), as well as in values of biocoenotic indicators, e.g. the values of diversity indicator H vary between 1 and 3.5. An analysis of archaeophytes participation (frequency and numbers) in ATPOL squares indicates their significant connection with archaeological sites of the Neolithic settlement. Particular adherence to the early Neolithic settlement areas shows a group of species from the Caucalidion alliance. The richness and diversity of the Park vegetation, conditioned by many hundreds of years of agriculture, are now strongly transformed and have become impoverished. Establishing the Landscape Park, in order to preserve the natural-landscape character of the environment and its cultural and historical values, does not ensure the protection of both the species and the phytocoenotic diversity of this area.

The dilated cardiomyopathy still remains a big problem in infant's cardiology. Almost a third of patients with this diagnosis die in infancy, 30% will suffer from the chronic heart failure that forces constant treatment or/and heart transplantations, and in remaining 30% we notice improvement during infancy. We presented the clinical course and progress of dilated cardiomyopathy based on the case of three siblings. Signs of the heart failure were nonspecific. Concluding: diagnostic vigilance must be shown in the cases of positive familial history.

The [100], [110], and [111] directional Compton profiles from Ag single crystals measured using $^{198}\mathrm{Au}$ (412 keV) and $^{137}\mathrm{Cs}$ (662 keV) sources, together with the corresponding theoretical profiles obtained within the charge self-consistent relativistic Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker band-structure methodology are presented. The overall amplitude and shape of the measured directional anisotropies are found to be in good accord with theoretical predictions based on the local-density approximation. In considering absolute Compton profiles, a substantial discrepancy between theory and experiment is found; however, this discrepancy is essentially removed by invoking an energy-independent correction to the data consistent with the presence of a significant bremsstrahlung background. The experimental and theoretical results are compared and contrasted with other relevant available data in the literature.

The Marfan syndrome (MFS) is one of the most common (1:3000-1:4000) heritable connective tissue disorders. It's still a rarely diagnosed syndrome, especially in childhood. Near all cases MFS results from mutations in the fibrillin-1 (FBN1) gene on chromosome 15q21.1, which encodes for the glycoprotein fibrillin. The FBN1 gene is a large protein that can cause more than 500 mutations and molecular examinations, finally confirming the diagnosis, are conducted extremely rare. We present prospective data concerning 66 patients with clinically-diagnosed MFS who have been controlled in Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Diseases Medical University in Gdansk in 2000 - 2010. 29 patients (44%) had mitral valve regurgitations, 19 (29%) aneurysmal dilatation of the aorta, 13 (20%) had both these irregularities. In 7 cases (11%) diagnosis of mitral valve prolapse preceded appearance of an aneurysmal dilalation of the aortic bulb. During the observation 11 patients (17%) underwent cardiosurgical procedures for the sake of stopping crucial progressive mitral valve dysfunction and/or aneurysmal dilatation of the aortic bulb, which threatened with a rupture of aortic aneurysm. In 39 cases (59%) prophylactic treatment with beta - blockers was administered. The patients with MFS need a multidisciplinary system of care and the psychological supporting. The cardiosurgical treatment, which nowadays is bringing better results, due to the technological advancements is a new hope for this patient population.

We report the results of an empirical study of 256 paternity cases referred to 7 different German laboratories for DNA fingerprinting with oligonucleotide probe (CAC)5/(GTG)5. All parameters characteristic of such multilocus DNA fingerprints were found to differ significantly between the contributing centres. Despite these differences, clear-cut decisions between paternity and non-paternity could be made in all but one case. Furthermore, we found no systematic deviation of the gel-phenotype distribution among trios from random expectation as derived from commonly adopted analytical models. Thus, we conclude that oligonucleotide DNA fingerprinting is a robust and reliable means for the resolution of paternity cases.
