Intensive Monitoring Survey of Nearby Galaxies (IMSNG) is a high cadence observation program monitoring nearby galaxies with high probabilities of hosting supernovae (SNe). IMSNG aims to constrain the SN explosion mechanism by inferring sizes of SN progenitor systems through the detection of the shock-heated emission that lasts less than a few days after the SN explosion. To catch the signal, IMSNG utilizes a network of 0.5-m to 1-m class telescopes around the world and monitors the images of 60 nearby galaxies at distances D < 50 Mpc to a cadence as short as a few hours. The target galaxies are bright in near-ultraviolet (NUV) with M_NUV < -18.4 AB mag and have high probabilities of hosting SNe (0.06 SN/yr per galaxy). With this strategy, we expect to detect the early light curves of 3.4 SNe per year to a depth of R ~ 19.5 mag, enabling us to detect the shock-heated emission from a progenitor star with a radius as small as 0.1 R_sun. The accumulated data will be also useful for studying faint features around the target galaxies and other science projects. So far, 18 SNe have occurred in our target fields (16 in IMSNG galaxies) over 5 years, confirming our SN rate estimate of 0.06 SN/yr per galaxy., 11 pages, 6 figures, to be published in the Journal of Korean Astronomical Society, February 2019 issue

Plants are known to respond to various types of environmental stresses arising from physicochemical changes and other organisms. As plants often simultaneously experience multiple stress factors due to their immobility, capacity to appropriately regulate gene expression by integrating multiple stress signals is crucial for successful adaptation to hostile environments. Although significant progress has been made in elucidating the molecular mechanisms for regulation of stress response genes under single stress, little is known about the effects of combined stress signals on gene regulation and their associated mechanisms. This thesis aimed to contribute to the understanding of plant stress response by studying the signal integration mechanisms under various perspectives: first, the thesis explored how multiple stress signals affect the choices over discretised regulatory outcomes, such as up-regulation or down-regulation. We propose that processing of multiple signals can be described as logical operations, and subsequently investigate the mechanisms for each signal integration outcome by constructing logical model of intracellular signalling network. The resulting insight was applied to analyse a transcriptomic dataset from the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, leading to novel hypotheses about potential crosstalk interactions that are missing between multiple stress signalling pathways. In parallel, the thesis also explored the cases where integration of multiple stress signals modulates dynamics of gene expression. An experimental study of the expression profile of Response-to-Dehydration 29A (RD29A), a model stress response gene, was conducted to show that combination of multiple stress inputs introduces a unique qualitative effect on dynamics of gene expression. The origin of this behaviour was investigated via a dynamical model of the RD29A regulatory network, which subsequently revealed potential interactions in the regulatory network that are currently unknown. Taken together, this thesis argues that systematic comparison between gene regulatory outcomes under single and combined stress inputs provides a crucial source of information for discovering functionally significant regulatory interactions in the stress signalling network. Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as ‘KERI’) has expanded 4000MVA grade high power test facilities since 2011. The test facilities to be expanded include not only direct test facilities but also the test building under construction, which is capable of additional synthetic tests using exiting synthetic test facilities. To implement the new synthetic test building, KERI utilizes existing capacitor banks to generate the synthetic test current and is additionally implementing the reignition test facility that is applied to circuit breakers that have long arcing time. This paper described the design on reignition test facility for the synthetic test of the circuit breaker with long arcing time. The reignition circuit and test facility were composed of the current zero anticipator unit and the reignition circuit and the trigger unit. The reignition circuit was composed of the capacitor bank, the DC charger unit, resistors and reactors. The current for reignition was designed as the impulse current with 4kA peak and 160μs time constant. By the result of simulation on the 72.5kV and 31.5kA rated circuit breaker, using the current zero anticipator unit capable to control the time in the unit of 100μs provided a sufficiently large slope at the current zero point and did not create current chopping, which was considered to ensure the rated arcing time of the circuit breaker.

Natural clonal stock of triploid crucian carp, Carassius aurahs was identified and its cytogenetic, molecular genetic and morphological traits were studied. Cytogenetic analysis of the clonal crucian carp revealed that they were natural triploidy, evidenced by 1.5-fold increases of cell size, DNA content, and chromosome number. Multi-locus DNA fingerprinting using probe showed that they had an identical fingerprint profile, indicating the clonal propagation of the population. External morphology and morphometric characteristics of triploid individuals were much uniform compared to those of diploids. Natural triploid crucian carp was proven to be all-female in this study.
