The effect of post-ion implantation annealing on the properties of the SiO2/4H-SiC interface is examined in this paper. It is observed that the surface roughness degrades after the high-temperature Ar annealing, but the oxidation process after the high temperature annealing can improve the surface roughness. To better understand the effect of high-temperature annealing on the gate oxide, the reliability of gate oxide is further studied. The results show that although the surface roughness degrades after high-temperature annealing, the interface state density, tunneling barrier height, breakdown field, and critical electric field for the 10-year lifetime of the thermally grown gate oxide do not degrade.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle during childhood could improve physical and mental health outcomes in adulthood and reduce relevant disease burdens. However, the lifestyles of children with mental, behavioral, and developmental disorders (MBDDs) remains under-described within the literature of public health field. This study aimed to examine adherence to 24-hour movement guidelines among children with MBDDs compared to population norms and whether these differences are affected by demographic characteristics.Data were from the 2016-2020 National Survey of Children's Health-a national, population-based, cross-sectional study. We used the data of 119,406 children aged 6 to 17 years, which included 38,571 participants with at least 1 MBDD and 80,835 without. Adherence to the 24-hour movement guidelines was measured using parent-reported physical activity, screen time, and sleep duration.Among children with MBDDs, 20.3%, 37.0%, 60.7%, and 77.3% met the physical activity, screen time, sleep, and at least 1 of the 24-hour movement guidelines. These rates were lower than those in children without MBDDs (22.8%, 46.2%, 66.7%, and 83.4%, respectively; all p values0.001). Children with MBDDs were less likely to meet these guidelines (odds ratio (OR) = 1.21, 95% confidence interval (95%CI): 1.13-1.30; OR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.29-1.45; OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.21-1.37; OR = 1.45, 95%CI: 1.35-1.56) than children without MBDDs. Children with emotional disorders had the highest odds of not meeting these guidelines (OR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.29-1.57; OR = 1.48, 95%CI: 1.37-1.60; OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.39-1.61; OR = 1.72, 95%CI: 1.57-1.88) in comparison to children with other MBDDs. Among children aged 12-17 years, the difference in proportion of meeting physical activity and screen time guidelines for children with versus children without MBDD was larger than that among children aged 6-11 years. Furthermore, the above difference of meeting physical activity guidelines in ethnic minority children was smaller than that in white children.Children with MBDDs were less likely to meet individual or combined 24-hour movement guidelines than children without MBDDs. In educational and clinical settings, the primary focus should be on increasing physical activity and limiting screen time in children aged 12-17 years who have MBDDs; and specifically for white children who have MBDDs, increasing physical activity may help.

One chromone (1), together with four known alkaloids, were isolated from the mangrove endophytic fungus Aspergillus sp. ZJ-68. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic analyses. Compound 1 showed strong anti-inflammatory activity in vitro by inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide-activated RAW264.7 cells with an IC50 value of 4.094 ± 0.8 μM, which was better than positive drug indomethacin (IC50=35.8 ± 0.5 μM).

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: The simulated pre-clinical operation skill test (PCOST) is part of the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and designed for clinical practice using manikins, physical typodonts, and instruments in the laboratory. This study tried to evaluate the influencing factors of the PCOST results for dental students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 32 5th-year dental students of the dental school of National Taiwan University (NTU) joined the PCOST. The contents of PCOST included two specialties: operative dentistry (OD) and prosthodontics (PS). The examination content of OD was tooth 36 mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) cavity preparation, and that of PS was crown preparation and temporary crown fabrication of tooth 11. Several factors including the gender, age, and dental student admission ways (with or without the skill tests) were evaluated. Each scoring item was calculated. The students also filled the feedback questionnaire about the examination questions and suggestions for the PCOST. RESULTS: For both OD and PS, there were no significant differences in the mean PCOST scores between male and female dental students, between two groups of dental students with or without the skill tests in the admission process, and among three different age groups of dental students. According to the feedback questionnaire from the participated dental students, they were satisfied with the PCOST. CONCLUSION: The PCOST is a good simulated examination in clinical practice. However, we still need to collect more PCOST data and feedback to revise the guideline of the PCOST, and to promote the performance of clinical works of dental students.

Deep learning has been widely used in single image rain removal and demonstrated favorable universality. However, it is still challenging to remove rain streaks,especially in the nightscape rain map which exists heavy rain and rain streak accumulation. To solve this problem, a single image nightscape rain removal algorithm based on Multi-scale Fusion Residual Network is proposed in this paper. Firstly, based on the motion blur model, evenly distributed rain streaks are generated and the dataset is reconstructed to solve the lack of nightscape rain map datasets. Secondly, according to the characteristics of the night rain map, multi-scale residual blocks are drawn on to reuse and propagate the feature, so as to exploit the rain streaks details representation. Meanwhile, the linear sequential connection structure of multi-scale residual blocks is changed to a u-shaped codec structure, which tackles the problem that features cannot be extracted effectively due to insufficient scale. Finally, the features of different scales are combined with the global self-attention mechanism to get different rain streak components, then a cleaner restored image is obtained. The quantitative and qualitative results show that, compared to the existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm can effectively remove rain streaks while retaining detailed information and ensuring the integrity of image information. &nbsp

Information on the dimensional changes in maxillary and mandibular dentures made by using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) techniques under uniform testing conditions is lacking.The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the dimensional changes and reproducibility of maxillary and mandibular dentures by using CAD-CAM-milled and 3D-printed techniques.Maxillary and mandibular edentulous models with wax occlusal rims were scanned, and dentures were designed by using a CAD software program and fabricated by using 2 techniques and materials: CAD-CAM-milled (CCM) and 3D-printed (3DP). The 3DP fabrications included 4 subgroups: dentures printed with a 90-degree build angle with UV light polymerization on the reference model (3DP 90M), dentures printed with a 90-degree build angle and light polymerization without the reference model (3DP 90), dentures printed with a 45-degree build angle with light polymerization on the reference model (3DP 45M), and dentures printed with a 45-degree build angle and light polymerization without the reference model (3DP 45). The preprocessing and postprocessing scan files of each denture produced by CCM and 3DP were superimposed by using a surface matching software program. Ten points each on maxillary and mandibular dentures were measured for deviations after processing. Additionally, for each denture, the widths were measured between the canines and molars, the anteroposterior plane from cusp tips between the canines and molars, and the vertical plane from the cusp tip of the canines to the marginal gingiva. They were then compared with those in the denture design CAD cast. The Kruskal-Wallis analysis of variance test was used for statistical analyses (α=.05).According to digital superimposition, CCM had the smallest values of deviation with no statistical difference (P.05), indicating more uniform results from measurement points in both maxillary and mandibular dentures, followed by 3DP 90M, 3DP 90, 3DP 45M, and 3DP 45. Regarding the width measurements, CCM had the smallest values of deviation (P.05). In 3DP, smaller deviation values were observed at the vertical plane from the tip of the canine to the marginal gingiva, and larger values were observed in the intermolar width (P.05).CCM exhibited smaller dimensional changes and better reproducibility among the tested techniques. In 3DP, the build angle and methods of light postprocessing influenced the dimensional stability. The 90-degree build angle with additional light polymerization on the cast improved the dimensional deviations.

As a traditional Chinese medicine, Lianhua Qingwen capsules have been widely used to treat Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). This study was aimed to demonstrate the association between treatment with Lianhua Qingwen capsules and the clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. This retrospective study was conducted at four hospitals in Central China. Data of hospitalized COVID-19 patients were collected between December 19, 2019 and April 26, 2020. Based on whether Lianhua Qingwen capsules were used, patients were classified into Lianhua Qingwen and non-Lianhua Qingwen (control) groups. To control for confounding factors, we used conditional logistic regression in a propensity-score matched (PSM) cohort (1 : 1 balanced), as well as logistic regression without matching as sensitivity analysis. A total of 4918 patients were included, 2760 of whom received Lianhua Qingwen capsules and 2158 of whom did not. In the PSM model, after adjusting for confounders, the in-hospital mortality was similar between the Lianhua Qingwen group and the control group (6.8% vs. 3.3%, adjusted OR, 0.66 [95% CI, 0.38-1.15], p = 0.138 ). The negative conversion rate of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection was higher in the Lianhua Qingwen group (88.3% vs. 96.1%, adjusted OR, 4.02 [95% CI, 2.58-6.25], p < 0.001 ). The incidence of acute liver injury was comparable between the two groups (14.0% vs. 11.5%, adjusted OR: 0.85 [95% CI, 0.71-1.02], p = 0.083 ), and the incidence of acute kidney injury was lower in the Lianhua Qingwen group (5.3% vs. 3.0%, adjusted OR: 0.71 [95% CI, 0.50-1.00], p = 0.048 ). Treatment with Lianhua Qingwen capsules was not significantly associated with in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients. In the Lianhua Qingwen group, the negative conversion rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection was higher and the incidence of acute kidney injury was lower than in the control group.

One of the emerging areas is knowledge co-creation, and more specifically, in an educational context, curriculum co-creation. The ability to solicit feedback, reactions, suggestions, and improvements with regards to courses and educational programs from students is an interesting and promising one, but a concept which requires that existing norms and practices be put aside to allow students to share in the evaluation, revision, and design process, together with instructors and administrators. This paper examines the foundations of curriculum co-creation, including its educational theory foundations, critical variables and considerations, and a review of recent programs and initiatives. A framework of the key curriculum co-creation variables is presented, followed by suggestions for future research.

To evaluate the possibility of using cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and neurofilament light protein (NF-L) for the diagnosis of neurosyphilis (NS).A cross-sectional study of 576 subjects was conducted at Zhongshan Hospital from January 2021 to August 2022 to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CSF UCH-L1, GFAP, and NF-L for NS and analyze their correlations with CSF rapid plasma reagin (RPR), white blood cells (WBCs), and protein.Patients with NS had higher CSF UCH-L1, GFAP, and NF-L levels than patients with syphilis/non-NS and nonsyphilis. Using a cut-off point of 652.25 pg/ml, 548.89 pg/ml, and 48.38 pg/ml, CSF UCH-L1, GFAP, and NF-L had a sensitivity of 85.11%, 76.60%, and 82.98%, with a specificity of 92.22%, 85.56%, and 91.11%, respectively, for NS diagnosis. Moreover, parallel and serial testing algorithms improved their sensitivity and specificity to 93.62% and 98.89%, respectively. Interestingly, levels between patients with NS who are CSF RPR-positive and -negative did not differ and showed a weak or moderate correlation with WBC and CSF protein in patients with syphilis.CSF UCH-L1, GFAP, and NF-L can be used as novel markers for the diagnosis of NS, independent of CSF RPR, WBC, and proteins.

The genus Formosatettix Tinkham is reviewed. Seven new species from China, Formosatettix cliva Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix guangyuanensis Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix shuimogouensis Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix strictivertex Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix tangjiaheensis Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix yueqingensis Deng, sp. nov., Formosatettix zheminzhengi Deng, sp. nov. are described and illustrated. One new name is proposed: Formosatettix latifemurus Deng, nom. nov. One new combination is established: Formosatettix nyalamensis (Zheng & Lin, 2015), comb. nov. A new alkaloid (3), together with three known compounds, were isolated from the Thespesia populnea endophytic fungus TM-Y1-1. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods. The absolute configuration of compound 3 was determined for the first time by ECD calculation and DP4+ analysis. All compounds were evaluated for antimicrobial activity. The results showed that compounds 1 and 2 both exhibited moderate inhibitory activity against banana Colletotrichum gloeosporioides with MIC value of 31.25 μg/ml.

There exists a new coupling effect between cosmic expansion and gravity. With this new gravitational coupling, we can simply explain the phenomenon of accelerated expansion of the universe. The calculation results are in full agreement with the cosmological measurements. This proves that the new gravitational coupling is the dark energy. Dark energy does not exist. This theoretical model brings about a new coupling constant for the coupling effect. The value of this coupling constant can be measured by measuring the cosmic redshift at the inflection point of the expansion speed of the universe.

Pathological angiogenesis is an important manifestation of syphilis, but the underlying mechanism of Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum (T. pallidum)-induced angiogenesis is poorly understood.The objective of this study is to investigate the role and related mechanism of the T. pallidum membrane protein Tp47 in angiogenesis.The proangiogenic activity of recombinant T. pallidum membrane protein Tp47 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was assessed by tube formation assay, three-dimensional angiogenesis analysis and experiments with a zebrafish embryo model. The effects of mitochondrial ROS and NADPH oxidase on intracellular ROS induced by Tp47 were further investigated. Furthermore, the levels of autophagy-related proteins and autophagic flux were measured. Finally, the role of ROS-induced autophagy in angiogenesis was studied.Tp47 promoted tubule formation and the formation of angiogenic sprouts in vitro. In addition, a significant increase in the number of subintestinal vessel branch points in zebrafish injected with Tp47 was observed using a zebrafish embryo model. Tp47 also significantly increased intracellular ROS levels in a dose-dependent manner. Tp47-induced tube formation and angiogenic sprout formation were effectively prevented by the ROS inhibitor NAC. In addition, Tp47 enhanced the production of mitochondrial ROS and expression of the NADPH oxidase-related proteins Nox2 and Nox4. The production of mitochondrial ROS and intracellular ROS was reduced by the NADPH oxidase inhibitors DPI and apocynin. Furthermore, Tp47 significantly increased expression of the autophagy-related proteins P62 and Beclin 1 and the LC3-II/LC3-I ratio and promoted an increase in autophagic flux, which could be effectively rescued by coincubation with the ROS inhibitor NAC. Further intervention with the autophagy inhibitor BafA1 significantly inhibited tube formation and angiogenic sprout formation.Tp47-induced NADPH oxidase enhanced intracellular ROS production via mitochondrial ROS and promoted angiogenesis through autophagy mediated by ROS. These findings may contribute to our understanding of pathological angiogenesis in syphilis.

Objectives This study was to explore the potential relationship between the fibrinogen-to-albumin ratio (FAR) and the presence and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in stage 3–5 predialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Design This study included 978 patients undergoing coronary angiography (CAG). CAD was defined as the presence of obstructive stenosis > 50% of the lumen diameter in any of the four main coronary arteries. Gensini scores (GSs), left main coronary artery (LMCA) and three-vessel coronary artery disease (TVD) were used to elevate the severity of CAD. Results The adjusted odds ratios of CAD were 3.059 (95% CI: 1.859–5.032) and 2.670 (95% CI: 1.605–4.441) in the third and fourth quartiles of FAR compared with the first quartile, respectively. Among 759 patients diagnosed with CAD, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that FAR (at the 0.01 level) was significantly positively associated with the presence of LMCA (adjusted OR = 1.177, 95% CI 1.067–1.299, P = 0.001) or TVD (adjusted OR = 1.154, 95% CI 1.076–1.238, P Conclusions FAR levels were independently associated with the presence and severity of CAD in stage 3–5 predialysis CKD patients.

Femoral nerve injuries are devastating injuries that lead to paralysis of the quadriceps muscles, weakening knee extension to prohibit ambulation. We report a devastating case of electrical injury-induced femoral neuropathy, where no apparent site of nerve disruption can be identified, thus inhibiting the traditional choices of nerve reconstruction such as nerve repair, grafting, or transfer. Concomitant spinal cord injury resulted in spastic myopathy of the antagonist muscles that further restricted knee extension. Our strategy was to perform (1) supercharge end-to-side technique (SETS) to augment the function of target muscles and (2) fractional tendon lengthening to release the spastic muscles. Dramatic postoperative improvement in passive and active range of motion highlights the effectiveness of this strategy to manage partial femoral nerve injuries.

Sequential administration of immunotherapy following radiotherapy (immunoRT) has attracted much attention in cancer research. Due to its unique feature that radiotherapy upregulates the expression of a predictive biomarker for immunotherapy, novel clinical trial designs are needed for immunoRT to identify patient subgroups and the optimal dose for each subgroup. In this article, we propose a Bayesian phase I/II design for immunotherapy administered after standard-dose radiotherapy for this purpose. We construct a latent subgroup membership variable and model it as a function of the baseline and pre-post radiotherapy change in the predictive biomarker measurements. Conditional on the latent subgroup membership of each patient, we jointly model the continuous immune response and the binary efficacy outcome using plateau models, and model toxicity using the equivalent toxicity score approach to account for toxicity grades. During the trial, based on accumulating data, we continuously update model estimates and adaptively randomize patients to admissible doses. Simulation studies and an illustrative trial application show that our design has good operating characteristics in terms of identifying both patient subgroups and the optimal dose for each subgroup.

International audience; Objectives:Broadly neutralizing antibodies have been proposed as key actors for HIV vaccine development. However, they display features of highly matured antibodies, hampering their induction by vaccination. As protective broadly neutralizing antibodies should be induced rapidly after vaccination and should neutralize the early-transmitted founder (T/F) viruses, we searched whether such antibodies may be induced following HIV infection.Design:Sera were collected during acute infection (Day 0) and at viral set point (Month 6/12) and the neutralizing activity against T/F strains was investigated. Neutralizing activity in sera collected from chronic progressor was analyzed in parallel.Methods:We compared neutralizing activity against T/F strains with neutralizing activity against non-T/F strains using the conventional TZM-bL neutralizing assay.Results:We found neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) preferentially directed against T/F viruses in sera collected shortly after infection. This humoral response evolved by shifting to nAbs directed against non-T/F strains.Conclusion:Although features associated with nAbs directed against T/F viruses need further investigations, these early-induced nAbs may display lesser maturation characteristics; therefore, this might increase their interest for future vaccine designs.

Late brittle extension is a common feature in orogenic belts, and its role in mountain building processes is still the subject of debate. Its timing relationship with crustal thickening, the building of topography, basin infill, and rock exhumation are of key importance in determining whether it is a major factor in orogenic development or merely causes near-surface secondary effects. We examined this question in relation to the active arc-continent collision of Taiwan, studying its structural evolution by integrating new and critical geochronological results for tensile vein filling of hinterland metamorphic terrane with syn-collision deposition records. Acceleration of rock exhumation and molasse deposition was found to be coeval with the initiation of brittle tensile structures at ca. 1.6 Ma, which was long overdue as continental subduction started well before 6.5 Ma in central to northern Taiwan. The topographic mountain of Taiwan was thus constructed when the upper crust of the thickened orogenic prism turned extensional, as orographic elevation and relief are prerequisites for molasses production. Syn-collisional brittle extension is therefore proposed as a possible facilitator of both augmented extrusive exhumation and the formation of orography.

Two new phenolic glycosides (1 and 2), one known analogue (3), along with a new diterpene glucoside (4) were obtained from ethanolic extract of the stems of Eurya chinensis R. Br. The structures of these isolated compounds were identified by extensive analysis of HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic data. The cytotoxicities of these compounds were evaluated on MCF-7, A549, HepG2, CaCo2 and 5-8 F cell lines by MTT method, but no obvious activities were observed.

Two new withaphysalin-type withanolides (18-O-ethylwithaphysalin R and 5-O-ethylphysaminimin C, 1 and 2), along with twelve known withanolides (3–14), were purified and identified from Physalis peruviana L. The chemical structures of these new isolates were elucidated through analyzing spectroscopic and HRESIMS data. All the obtained metabolites were appraised for their potential antiproliferative activity against the human breast cancer cell line MCF-7. Compound 7 was discovered to exhibit potent activity with an IC50 value of 3.51 µM and compounds 2, 6 and 14 showed weak cytotoxic effect.

The definition of physical literacy (PL) needs to be explored by researchers from educational, public health, and sports organisations in Chinese culture; an adequate definition and theoretical framework of PL can then be embraced within different contexts and according to cultural influences.This meta-narrative synthesis of literature in this area included a series of planning, search, mapping, appraisal, synthesis, and recommendation phases. The literature was translated into English and circulated among international experts to seek suggestions. A total of 74 articles were included in the PL definition synthesis and 28 were included for philosophical synthesis in this study.Based on three rounds of discussions, the final agreement was reached among panel members regarding the defining statements and practical and theoretical models of PL in Chinese culture. According to consensus, PL is the integration of physical, perceptual, cognitive, psychological, and behavioural capabilities, echoing with the need for an active, healthy, and fulfilling lifestyle, which involves continuous positive interactions with the environment and embodied engagement in physical activities for life. The framework addressed five domains (physical, sensory-perceptual, cognitive, psychological, and behavioural) and one important overlapping factor (dynamic environment). A further explanation was provided in the defining statement to assist in understanding the concept.It is suggested that the cultural interpretation and historical background of PL in Chinese discourse should be addressed and respected. The development of a specific cultural definition statement of PL in one country could provide implications for PL researchers worldwide.

The brief version of the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Questionnaire, called WHOQOL-BREF, is an internationally applicable measurement for quality of life (QOL) and is widely used in medical and psychological research. Consistent factor structure across countries is essential for the WHOQOL-BREF. However, poor construct validity was found in Lin and Yao's systematic review study. Few studies have investigated this issue. To fill this gap, this study is the first to examine the factor structure of the WHOQOL-BREF using a meta-analysis approach through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and social network analysis (SNA). Sixteen studies published from 1998 to April 2021 were selected from two well-known academic databases: PsycINFO and MEDLINE. The findings from EFA revealed that four- and five-factor models are acceptable. Because of the weak factor structure of the five-factor model, leading to difficulty in explaining the measurement outcome, the four-factor model was chosen. All 24 items, except Item 8, were loaded on the theoretically designed factors. The theory-based four-factor model proposed by the WHOQOL group was validated. Our results not only provide additional insight into the factor structure of the WHOQOL-BREF but also facilitate its international applicability and comparability. Aim: The present study examined the membrane location of cardiolipin antigen in treponemes. Materials & methods: The authors used different methods to disrupt the outer membrane of treponemes, detected the location of the cardiolipin antigen and analyzed the immune response in rabbits immunized with various antigens. Results: All organisms were labeled with nontreponemal antibodies on immunoelectron and fluorescence microscopy, except the citrate buffer-treated group, which is a method leading to relatively complete removal. Except for citrate buffer-treated spirochetes, all treponemes produced low-titer, nontreponemal antibodies in immunized rabbits. Conclusion: These findings indicated that the cardiolipin antigen was localized in the outer membrane of spirochetes.
