A statistical shape model (SSM) based analysis was conducted in our study. We indicated the morphological differences of the first trapezoid-metacarpal (TMC) bone between the region-based statistical shape model (rSSM) and the nonregion-based statistical shape model (nrSSM). We aimed to characterize more specific and accurate variation results to detect and prevent osteoarthritis in an early way. CT image data of TMC from 31 healthy volunteers were simulated with 3D models. A training set of models was analyzed with principal component analysis, with both then- rSSM and rSSM. The region was identified automatically with Gaussian curvature analysis. We found four dominant shape variations from both nrSSM and rSSM. The rSSM showed more variations with fewer components compared with nrSSM. The first principal component revealed the size variation as the biggest component. A significant difference was presented in the second and the fourth principal component from rSSM, showing the torsion of the distal head of the first metacarpal which may increase the risk of osteoarthritis.

Survivin is a member of apoptosis inhibitor proteins that evokes cellular proliferation and inhibits apoptosis. However, the role of survivin in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) patients remains to be firmly established. The aim of this cohort study was to evaluate the correlations of serum survivin with the severity and prognosis of CAP patients.This research included 470 eligible CAP patients. Serum fasting samples were drawn from patients, and serum survivin was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Meanwhile, demographic characteristics and clinical information were collected. The prognosis of CAP patients was tracked.Serum survivin gradually decreased with elevated CAP severity scores. Additionally, the correlative analysis suggested that serum survivin was associated with many clinical characteristics. Furthermore, mixed linear and logistic regression models indicated that serum survivin was negatively associated with severity. After adjusting for confounding factors, logistic regression analyses found that lower serum survivin on admission elevated the risks of mechanical ventilation, vasoactive agent usage, longer hospital stays, ICU admission, and even death during hospitalization. Serum survivin in combination with CAP severity scores elevated the predictive capacities for severity and death in CAP patients compared with a single indicator.On admission, there are inverse dose-response associations of serum survivin with severity and poor prognosis in CAP patients, demonstrating that serum survivin may be involved in the pathophysiology process of CAP. Serum survivin may serve as a potential biomarker for disease evaluation and prognosis in CAP patients.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) is a ligand-dependent nuclear receptor and highly expressed in human and rodent lungs. 15-Deoxy-delta-All 130 fasting blood samples and 40 lung specimens were obtained from COPD patients and control subjects. Serum 15d-PGJ2 was detected by ELISA. The expressions of oxidative stress indicators were measured using western blotting and PPARγ nuclei were evaluated with immunohistochemistry in lungs. The associations among serum 15d-PGJ2, pulmonary PPARγ and oxidative stress indicators, and COPD were estimated.Serum 15d-PGJ2 was reduced in COPD patients compared with healthy volunteers. Linear and logistic regression analysis indicated that serum 15d-PGJ2 was positively associated with pulmonary function in COPD patients. In addition, PPARγ-positive nuclei were reduced and oxidative stress indicators, included HO-1 and NOX-4, were increased in lungs of COPD patients. Further correlative analysis suggested that pulmonary function parameters was positively correlated with serum 15d-PGJ2 and pulmonary PPARγ-positive nuclei, inversely related to oxidative stress indicators in lungs of COPD patients. Pretreatment with 15d-PGJ2 obviously attenuated TNFα-induced oxidative stress in BEAS-2B cells.Serum 15d-PGJ2 and pulmonary PPARγ are reduced, and oxidative stress is elevated in COPD patients. Serum 15d-PGJ2 is inversely associated with oxidative stress in COPD patients.

Based on the tripartite influence model, the present study linked investment in others' selfies on social media to facial dissatisfaction and cosmetic surgery consideration. We also tested the mediating role of appearance comparisons and general attractiveness internalization in these relationships. Additionally, potential gender differences in the proposed model were examined. A sample of 884 Chinese adolescents (mean age = 16.80 ± 0.92, ranging from 14 to 19 years old) completed self-reported measures of investment in others' selfies, appearance comparisons, general attractiveness internalization, facial dissatisfaction, and cosmetic surgery consideration. Results showed that investment in others' selfies was positively associated with facial dissatisfaction and cosmetic surgery consideration. Path analysis further revealed that investment in others' selfies was associated with appearance comparisons and general attractiveness internalization, which in turn were associated with facial dissatisfaction, and then facial dissatisfaction was related to cosmetic surgery consideration. Additionally, there were indirect associations between investment in others' selfies and cosmetic surgery consideration via general attractiveness internalization and facial dissatisfaction respectively, but not via appearance comparisons. No gender difference was found in the proposed model. Findings of the present study provide preliminary support for the tripartite influence model in the context of investment in others' selfies on social media and cosmetic surgery consideration and enrich the literature on body image and cosmetic surgery in the Chinese context.

Aberrant alternative splicing (AS) profoundly affects tumorigenesis and cancer progression. Serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 3 (SRSF3) regulates the AS of precursor mRNAs and acts as a proto-oncogene in many tumors, but its function and potential mechanisms in cervical cancer remain unclear. Here, we found that SRSF3 was highly expressed in cervical cancer tissues and that SRSF3 expression was correlated with prognosis after analyses of the The Cancer Genome Atlas and GEO databases. Furthermore, knockdown of SRSF3 reduced the proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities of HeLa cells, while overexpression of SRSF3 promoted proliferation, migration, and invasion of CaSki cells. Further studies showed that SRSF3 mediated the variable splicing of exon 12 of the transcriptional cofactor DEAD-box helicase 5 (DDX5). Specifically, overexpression of SRSF3 promoted the production of the pro-oncogenic spliceosome DDX5-L and repressed the production of the repressive spliceosome DDX5-S. Ultimately, both SRSF3 and DDX5-L were able to upregulate oncogenic AKT expression, while DDX5-S downregulated AKT expression. In conclusion, we found that SRSF3 increased the production of DDX5-L and decreased the production of DDX5-S by regulating the variable splicing of DDX5. This, in turn promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cervical cancer by upregulating the expression level of AKT. These results reveal the oncogenic role of SRSF3 in cervical cancer and emphasize the importance of the SRSF3-DDX5-AKT axis in tumorigenesis. SRSF3 and DDX5 are new potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cervical cancer.

The study aimed to develop and validate a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based deep learning method for automatic diagnosis and graduation of skin frostbite. A dataset of 71 annotated images was used for the training, the validation, and the testing based on ResNet-50 model. The performances were evaluated with the test set. The diagnosis and graduation performance of our approach was compared with two residents from burns department. The approach correctly identified all the frostbite of IV (18/18, 100%), but with respectively 1 mistake in the diagnosis of degree I (29/30, 96.67%), II (28/29, 96.55%) and III (37/38, 97.37%). The accuracy of the approach on the whole test set was 97.39% (112/115). The accuracy of the two residents were respectively 77.39% and 73.04%. Weighted Kappa of 0.583 indicates good reliability between the two residents (P = .445). Kendall's coefficient of concordance is 0.326 (P = .548), indicating differences in accuracy between the approach and the two residents. Our approach based on CNNs demonstrated an encouraging performance for the automatic diagnosis and graduation of skin frostbite, with higher accuracy and efficiency.

Purpose This meta-analysis of all relevant clinical trials investigated surgical plethysmographic index (SPI)-guided analgesia’s efficacy under general anesthesia for perioperative opioid requirement and emergence time after anesthesia. Methods PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched up to January 2022 to identify clinical trials comparing SPI-guided and conventional clinical practice for patients who underwent general anesthesia. With the random-effects model, we compared intraoperative opioid consumption, emergence time, postoperative pain, analgesia requirement, and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Results Thirteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (n = 1314) met our selection criteria. The overall pooled effect sizes of all RCTs indicated that SPI-guided analgesia could not significantly reduce opioid consumption during general anesthesia. SPI-guided analgesia accompanied with hypnosis monitoring could decrease intraoperative opioid consumption (standardized mean difference [SMD] − 0.31, 95% confidence interval [CI] − 0.63 to 0.00) more effectively than SPI without hypnosis monitoring (SMD 1.03, 95% CI 0.53–1.53), showing a significant difference (p p I2 = 67%) or eye-opening time (SMD − 0.40, 95% CI − 0.63 to − 0.18, p I2 = 54%). SPI-guided analgesia did not affect the incidence of PONV, postoperative pain, and analgesia management. Conclusion SPI-guided analgesia under general anesthesia could enhance recovery after surgery without increasing the postoperative complication risk. However, it did not affect intraoperative opioid requirement. Notably, SPI-guided analgesia with hypnosis monitoring could effectively reduce intraoperative opioid requirement.

It is generally believed that the temperature and the velocity fields are highly coupled in compressible wall-bounded turbulence. In the present study, we employ a linear model, i.e. the two-dimensional spectral linear stochastic estimation (SLSE), to study this coupling from the perspective of the multi-scale energy-containing eddies. Particular attention is paid to the relevant statistical characteristics of the temperature field. The connections of the two fields are found to be varied with the wall-normal position in the boundary layer. In a nutshell, their entanglement is strongest in the near-wall region, and only the extreme thermal events cannot be captured by SLSE. In the logarithmic region, only the scales that correspond to the attached eddies and the very large-scale motions (VLSMs) are firmly coupled. The near-wall footprints of the former are organized in an additive manner and fulfil the predictions of the celebrated attached-eddy model. In the outer region, the two fields are linearly coupled only at the scales corresponding to VLSMs. These findings are demonstrated to be insensitive to the Mach number effects and ascribed to the similarity between the momentum and the heat transfer in compressible wall turbulence. It is also shown that it is the Reynolds number rather than Mach number that acts as a key similarity parameter in constructing their coupling. The framework built in the present study may pave a way for investigating the multi-physics coupling in turbulence, and reinforcing our analysing and modelling capability to the interrelated problems.

In this paper new explicit integrators for numerical solution of stiff evolution equations are proposed. As shown by Bassenne, Fu and Mani in (J Comput Phys 424:109847, 2021), the action on the original vector field of the stiff equations of an appropriate time-accurate and highly-stable explicit (TASE) linear operator, allows us to use explicit Runge–Kutta (RK) schemes with these modified equations so that the resulting algorithm becomes stable for the original stiff equations. Here a new family of TASE operators is considered. The new operators, called Singly TASE, have the advantage over the TASE operators of Bassenne et al. that the action on the vector field depends on the powers of the inverse of only one matrix, which can be computationally more simple, without loosing stability properties. A complete study of the linear stability properties of k–stage, kth–order explicit RK schemes under the action of Singly TASE operators of the same order is carried out for $$k \le 4$$ k ≤ 4 . For orders two, three and four, particular schemes that are nearly strongly A–stable and therefore suitable for stiff problems are devised. Further, explicit RK schemes with orders three and four that can be implemented with only two storage locations under the action of Singly TASE operators of the same order are discussed. A particular implementation of the classical four–stage fourth–order RK scheme with two Singly TASE operators is presented. A set of numerical experiments has been conducted to demonstrate the performance of the new schemes by comparing with previous RKTASE and other established methods. The main conclusion is that the new integrators provide a very simple solver for stiff systems with good stability properties and avoids the difficulties of using implicit algorithms.

The global carbon neutrality strategy brings a wave of rechargeable lithium‐ion batteries technique development and induces an ever-growing consumption and demand for lithium (Li). Among all the Li exploitation, extracting Li from spent LIBs would be a strategic and perspective approach, especially with the low energy consumption and eco-friendly membrane separation method. However, current membrane separation systems mainly focus on monotonous membrane design and structure optimization, and rarely further consider the coordination of inherent structure and applied external field, resulting in limited ion transport. Here, we propose a heterogeneous nanofluidic membrane as a platform for coupling multi-external fields (i.e., light-induced heat, electrical, and concentration gradient fields) to construct the multi-field-coupled synergistic ion transport system (MSITS) for Li-ion extraction from spent LIBs. The Li flux of the MSITS reaches 367.4 mmol m−2 h−1, even higher than the sum flux of those applied individual fields, reflecting synergistic enhancement for ion transport of the multi-field-coupled effect. Benefiting from the adaptation of membrane structure and multi-external fields, the proposed system exhibits ultrahigh selectivity with a Li+/Co2+ factor of 216,412, outperforming previous reports. MSITS based on nanofluidic membrane proves to be a promising ion transport strategy, as it could accelerate ion transmembrane transport and alleviate the ion concentration polarization effect. This work demonstrated a collaborative system equipped with an optimized membrane for high-efficient Li extraction, providing an expanded strategy to investigate the other membrane-based applications of their common similarities in core concepts.

The landslide prone area, Xingzhuang has been identified as a deep-seated landslide prone area by Taiwan authorities. Where covers a 10.3 hectares’ area with an average slope of 22.8 degrees and 20 buildings around the slope toe. The majority lithology of upper slope is sand-shale interbedded with highly sand contented, which differs from lower slope in shale with mud contented. In order to grasp the activities of this area, we have installed a real-time compound monitoring station including GNSS, biaxial tiltmeter, ground water level meter, and rain gauge.The rainfall depth of 2021 and 2022 was 4,175 mm and 1,691 mm respectively. The difference was larger than 2400 mm in our study area which might induced the different activity behaviors. In this study, we discussed the relations of slope activity and hydrological parameters in last two years. The results show (1) The variation of X-direction of tiltmeter were about 7,500 and 3,500 (sec) in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The variation of Y-direction of tiltmeter were about 6,500 and 4,500 (sec) in 2021 and 2022, respectively. (2) In the same 6-hours rainfall intensity, the 6 hours tilt-angle of X and Y direction in 2021 were both two times of 2022. (3) In the same ground water level, the 6 hours tilt-angle of X and Y direction in 2021 were about 2 and 1.5 times of 2022, respectively. (4) In the same variation of 6-hours ground water level, no matter raising or decline ground water level the 6 hours tilt-angle of X and Y direction in 2021 were about 2.2 and 1.5 times of 2022, respectively. And the change rate of the 6 hours tilt-angle would be accelerated when the 6-hours variation of groundwater level was higher than 0.4 meters. On the whole, the rainy year would induce more active than dry year.

Acepleiadylene (APD), a nonbenzenoid isomer of pyrene, exhibits a unique charge-separated character with a large molecular dipole and a small optical gap. However, APD has never been explored in optoelectronic materials to take advantage of these unique properties. Here, we employ APD as a building block in organic semiconducting materials for the first time, and unravel the superiority of nonbenzenoid APD in electronic applications. We have synthesized an APD derivative (APD-IID) with APD as the terminal donor moieties and isoindigo (IID) as the acceptor core. Theoretical and experimental investigations reveal that APD-IID has an obvious charge-separated structure and enhanced intermolecular interactions as compared with its pyrene-based isomers. As a result, APD-IID displays significantly higher hole mobilities than that of the pyrene-based counterparts. These results imply the advantages of employing APD in semiconducting materials and great potential of nonbenzenoid polycyclic arenes for optoelectronic applications.

In this work, the linear responses of turbulent mean flow to both harmonic and stochastic forcing are investigated for supersonic channel flow. Well-established universal relations are utilized to obtain efficiently the mean profiles with a large parameter space, with the bulk Mach number up to 5 and the friction Reynolds number up to $10^4$ , so a systematic parameter study is feasible. The most amplified structure takes the form of streamwise velocity and temperature streaks forced optimally by the streamwise vortices. The outer peak of the pre-multiplied energy amplification corresponds to the large-scale motion, whose spanwise wavelength ( $\lambda _z^+$ ) is very insensitive to compressibility effects. In contrast, the classic inner peak representing small-scale near-wall motions disappears for the stochastic response with increasing Mach number. Meanwhile, the small-scale motions become much less coherent. A decomposition of the forcing identifies different effects of the incompressible counterpart and the thermodynamic components. Wall-cooling effects, arising with high Mach number, increase the spacing of the most amplified near-wall streaks; the spacing becomes nearly invariant with Mach number if expressed in semi-local units. Meanwhile, the coherence of stochastic response with $\lambda _z^+>90$ is enhanced, but on the other hand, with $\lambda _z^+ it is decreased. The geometrical self-similarity of the response in the mid- $\lambda _z$ range is still roughly satisfied, insensitive to Mach number. Finally, theoretical analyses of the perturbation equations are presented to help with understanding the scaling of energy amplification.

Primary osteoporosis (PMOP) is characterized by bone mass reduction and bone microstructure destruction, increased bone fragility and prone to fracture, which is partially caused by ovarian dysfunction and decreased estrogen content. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell exosomes (BMSC-ExO) can improve PMOP. In this study, BMSC-EXO was used to study the role and function of miR-318 and Runx2 in PMOP. Human osteogenitor cells were isolated from PMOP patients with primary osteoporosis. After BMSC-exo treatment, miR-318 and Runx 2 level was tested by RT-qPCR and Western blot. In addition, mice in OVX group were treated with BMSC-ExO (bilateral ovaries were removed) to observe the effect of BMSC-ExO on bone tissue. Our results showed that BMSC-exo treatment significantly decreased miR-318 level, upregulated RUNX2 expression and increased ALP activity. In addition, BMSC-exo administration ameliorated the declined bone mass and bone formation in osteoporotic femurs in OVX mice. In conclusion, BMSC-Exo enhances Runx2 levels by down-regulation of miR-318, thereby promoting osteogenic differentiation of osteogenitor cells, providing new potential therapeutic targets for treating PMOP.

Stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs) are important for tooth root development and regeneration of root dentin. Here, we examined the expression of programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) in SCAPs and investigated the effects of PD-1 on odontogenic and osteogenic differentiation, as well as the relationship between PD-1 and SHP2/NF-κB signals. SCAPs were obtained and cultured in the related medium. The proliferation ability was evaluated by the cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8) and the 5-ethynyl-20-deoxyuridine (EdU) assay. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay, ALP staining, Western blot, real-time quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), Alizarin Red S (ARS) staining, and immunofluorescence (IF) staining were performed to explore the osteo/odontogenic potential and the involvement of SHP2/NF-κB pathways. Besides, we transplanted SCAPs components into mouse calvaria defects to evaluate osteogenesis in vivo. We found that human SCAPs expressed PD-1 for the first time. PD-1 knockdown enhanced the osteo/odontogenic differentiation of SCAPs by suppressing the SHP2 pathway and activating the NF-κB pathway. Overexpression of PD-1 inhibited the osteogenesis and odontogenesis of SCAPs via activation of SHP2 signal and inhibition of the NF-κB pathway. PD-1 activated SHP2 signal to block NF-κB signal and then played a vital role in osteo/odontogenic differentiation of SCAPs.

Purpose Servitization has been used widely by manufacturing firms to secure strategic positions in industrial transformation. However, its impact on firms’ market power remains to be investigated, especially in developing countries. This study aims to investigate servitization’s impact on firms’ market power, along with the moderating roles of research and development (R&D) intensity and firm size. Design/methodology/approach Using the two-stage least squares with instrumental variables (2SLS-IV) method, the authors conduct an empirical analysis of servitization in China based on panel data for 1,797 publicly traded manufacturing firms during the period 2012–2018. Findings The findings show that servitization helps increase a firm’s market power. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis suggests that embedded servitization increases a firm’s market power, whereas hybrid servitization reduces it. The findings also indicate that this effect varies depending on critical firm conditions. Servitization’s effect on firms’ market power increases with R&D intensity but decreases with manufacturer expansion. Research limitations/implications This study describes the positive effects of servitization on firms’ market power in response to calls for research that will adopt a comprehensive business performance perspective on the servitization field. Practical implications The findings provide guidance for what type of servitization manufacturing firms should choose and how it fits with their size and R&D capabilities. Originality/value This pioneering empirical study uses a large longitudinal data set and the 2SLS-IV method to examine the effects of embedded servitization and hybrid servitization on firms’ market power. The findings provide a new perspective on ongoing discussions of “desertification” and the “service paradox.”
