Direct production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) through biomass always needs the addition of exogenous catalysts and causes extra costs. Herein, acid mine drainage (AMD), one of the traditional wastewaters, was introduced as a natural catalyst to produce HMF directly from lignocellulosic biomass. Key factors in the biomass conversion were optimized and investigated by the response surface methodology (RSM), and the HMF yield reached 13.51 wt% under optimal conditions. The metal elements and the acidic environment in AMD activated the Fenton reaction to effectively destroy the lignocellulose structure and synergistically promote the formation of HMF. Furthermore, the biomass substrate in the biomass conversion was indirectly modified by the AMD during this process. The biomass conversion residue could be prepared by pyrolysis to obtain a functional metal-loaded carbon material with good adsorption of thiamethoxam (THX), which provides a sustainable solution for the disposal of biomass conversion residue.

To investigate the clinical features and potential associated risk factors of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA positivity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients.A total of 121 newly diagnosed SLE patients who had never used immunosuppressive drugs (treatment-naïve) and 191 previously treated SLE patients from January 2017 to January 2020 were enrolled in this study. And 115 age- and sex-matched non-rheumatic disease controls were also included.A significantly higher incidence of EBV DNA positivity and higher viral DNA copies in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were observed among treatment-naïve and previously treated SLE patients compared with controls. The positivity rate of EBV DNA was further increased in previously treated SLE patients compared with that in treatment-naïve patients. EBV DNA-positive treatment-naïve SLE patients presented lower incidence of hemolytic anemia and more affected organ number than EBV DNA-negative patients. EBV DNA-positive treated SLE patients showed older age, longer immunosuppressive duration, higher IgG level, and higher Th/Ts ratio than EBV DNA-negative patients. Patients responding well to treatment with decreased SLE disease activity index scores had a transformation of EBV DNA from positive to negative in treated SLE patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that older age, higher IgG level, and longer immunosuppressive duration were associated risk factors for EBV DNA positivity in SLE patients, while higher TNF-α level was a protective factor.Older age, higher IgG level, and longer immunosuppressive duration are associated with the positivity of EBV DNA in SLE patients. A seroconversion of EBV DNA indicates an association between EBV positivity and therapy response, while larger number cases are needed to confirm. Key Points • Older age, higher IgG level, and longer immunosuppressive duration are associated with EBV DNA positivity in SLE patients. • A seroconversion of EBV DNA might be an indicator to reflect the SLE therapy -response.

With the rapid depletion of fossil energy and increasingly severe environmental pollution, the development of biomass resources for biorefineries has become a new research focus. However, heavy metals may be released during the thermochemical treatment when the biomass materials used in biomass conversion are contaminated by heavy metals. This can cause secondary environmental pollution or transference to the target products, reducing product quality. Therefore, having a systematic understanding of the fate of heavy metals in biomass conversion is necessary for alleviating potential risks. This study presents the current status of contaminated biomass and conversion products involving thermochemical processes, the migration, transformation, and impact of heavy metals in biomass conversion was investigated, and the utilization of heavy metals in contaminated biomass was briefly outlined. This review aims to link biomass conversion to the fate of heavy metals, avoid existing risks as much as possible to produce cleaner products efficiently, and promote the sustainable development of heavy metal contaminated biomass resources.

In recent years, 2, 5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) has attracted much attention as the precursor of bio-polyester materials. A coupled process of ultrasonic-assisted dilute acid pretreatment and MnO2 was designed in this study to directly produce FDCA from lignocellulosic biomass, which is different from the traditional preparation process. Moreover, the critical parameters in the process were analyzed and optimized by the response surface method. The yield of FDCA could reach 52.1% under the optimal conditions. The reaction mechanism indicated that heavy metal elements in lignocellulosic biomass could play the role of the Lewis acid catalyst to promote the formation of FDCA to a certain extent. With the increase of temperature, the heavy metals transfer in biomass from the solid phase to the liquid phase increased, but most of them remain in the former. Therefore, further purification and treatment measures are worthy of attention.

Simple Summary Y chromosome-specific markers have been widely used in studying the origin, migration, diversity, and population relationship in several mammalian species. So far, the investigations on yak paternal genetics were mostly based on Y-SNPs information, but very few on Y-STR markers. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the polymorphism of Y-STR INRA189 locus, identified the geographical distribution pattern of its alleles in 15 Chinese domestic yak breeds/populations, and provided basic data for yak paternal genetic analysis. Our results showed that INRA189 is an intermediate polymorphic Y-STR marker with six alleles present among 15 Chinese domestic yak breeds/populations and that the variation among six alleles was due to different numbers of repetitions of a TG dinucleotide motif. Abstract The objective of this study was to probe into the polymorphism of Y-STR INRA189 and identify the geographical distribution pattern of its alleles in the Chinese domestic yak gene pool. We examined the variation at INRA189 locus in 682 male yaks representing 15 breeds/populations in China. The results showed that six alleles, including five reported previously (149, 155, 157, 159, and 161 bp) and a new one identified in this study (139 bp), were detected at INRA189 locus based on genotyping analysis. The frequencies of six alleles varied among the 15 yak breeds/populations with a clear phylogeographical pattern, which revealed the paternal genetic difference among Chinese yak breeds/populations. The average polymorphism information content (PIC) among the 15 yak breeds/populations was 0.32, indicating INRA189 to be an intermediate polymorphic Y-STR marker (0.25 < PIC < 0.5) in yak. Sequence alignment revealed that the variations among six alleles at INRA189 were defined by a TG dinucleotide repeat motif, which repeated for 12, 17, 20, 21, 22, and 23 times, corresponding to the alleles of 139, 149, 155, 157, 159, and 161 bp, respectively. Therefore, we believe that the polymorphic yak Y-STR INRA189 can be used to characterize male-mediated genetic events, including paternal genetic origin, diversity, and evolution.

The traditional high-salinity organic wastewater treatment process is cumbersome and costly, and involves an independent process for removing pollutants and salinity. A flow-through coupled system of electro-Fenton and electrosorption processes was designed in this work. The simultaneous purification and desalination of high concentration wastewater were effectively achieved through the cooperation of various electrochemical reactions, which avoids the complex processes of desalination and dilution in advance when treating high-salinity organic wastewater, and the removal performance was improved. The influence of key parameters, including voltage, initial pH, plate spacing, H2O2 concentration, and flow rate, were systematically investigated. The findings show that actual wastewater passing through the coupled system promptly turns to clean water with significantly decreased COD, TN, and salinity, with removal efficiencies reaching 96.5%, 98.2%, and 46.2%, respectively, under the optimal conditions (voltage intensity 1.5 V, initial pH 4, plate spacing 1 cm, flow rate 40 mL/min, H2O2 concentration 50 mM). The reaction mechanism study suggested that both the Fenton reaction, direct electron transfer, and indirect oxidation by active chlorine contributed to the removal of COD and TN, while the decrease in salinity mainly occurred in the process of electrosorption. Moreover, the regeneration of the ACF and the operational stability of the coupled system were good after five cycles. The economic analysis indicated that the cost of the flow-through coupled system was only $1.18/m3, which has important benefits.

Compound 1, a triterpenoid saponin from Ardisia gigantifolia Stapf showing potential anti-tumour activity, was hydrolysed into two deglycosyl derivatives (2 and 3) by Alternaria alternata AS 3.6872. Both these derivatives are new compounds. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D, 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS and optical rotation spectral data. Compounds 1–3 were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against human hepatocellular carcinoma and normal liver cells by Cell Counting Kit 8 colorimetric assay.

We propose a statistic model for spatial distribution of precipitation estimation in Tibet by using both digit elevation data retrieved from satellite and precipitation data reorganized from all the twenty-seven synoptic stations in Tibet. The stations are divided into three kinds according to their terrain slope orientations. The data of precipitation of each kind is analyzed using the multinomial regression of the ordinary least-square method to establish the regression equation between precipitation and its impact factors such as longitude, latitude, height, slope, sloping direction, and close limit. The results show that the correlation between precipitation and impact factors is very significant. The mean absolute error is 0.93mm and the mean relative error is 1.16%. The estimated precipitation correctly replicates real distribution of precipitation qualitatively and quantitatively.

To analyze the clinical diagnosis and treatment of hepatic hydatid disease and its epidemiological characteristics in Yili river valley.Retrospective investigation was carried out on 2049 cases collected in 1993-2003. Clinical diagnosis was made by ways of intradermal test, serological test, ultrasound, X-ray, CT and/or MRI, majority of them received surgical operation.Among the 2049 cases, cystic hydatidosis occupied 96% (1965/2049), while 4% (84/2049) were alveolar hydatidosis. 99% (2034/2049) accepted surgery including hepatolobectomy, endocystomy and hydatidostomy in 302 cases (14.7%) without relapses. 754 cases (36.7%) received chemotherapy (praziquantel, albendazole) after surgical operation. The disease distributed in agri-pastoral areas along the valley. Local residents from different minorities had a close contact with dogs, 54% of the cases were females and 48% of the cases were in the group of 25-49 years old. The incidence tends to decline in the years.Hydatidosis is still an important health problem in the region. Further practices for improving treatment especially surgical intervention and for epidemiological investigation are needed.

Neural mass models can produce electroencephalography (EEG) like signals corresponding to interical, pre-ictal and ictal activities. In this paper, a novel closed-loop feedback control strategy based on algebraic estimation is proposed to eliminate epileptiform spikes in neural mass models. Algebraic estimation plays a role in observing the states of the model in order to construct the controller. For a network of coupled neural populations, the characteristics regarding the closed-loop feedback control strategy, including the relationship between the type of controlled populations and the ability of eliminating epileptiform spikes, the relationship between the number of controlled populations and control energy, the relationship between the model parameters and control energy, are determined by numerical simulations. The purpose is to establish the rules for the proper control of eliminating epileptiform spikes with as less control energy as possible. Moreover, the proposed control-loop control strategy is compared with a direct proportional feedback control strategy by numerical simulations. It is shown that the use of algebraic estimation makes a reduction of control energy.

In this paper we present the experiment results of the space correlations of temperature fluctuations when there is and is not temperature gradient. From those results we can see clearly that the temperature fluctuation field is isotropic without temperature gradient, and it is obviously anisotropic with temperature gradient. The temperature correlation along gradient direction β is obviously larger than the vertical to β direction. Our experiment results agree with the theory results of D.W. Dunn and W.H. Rend[1].

Recently the k-e model has been widely used, but it is a kind of gradient model. Because the life-time of turbulence vortexes is very long, in common flow problems the influence of up-stream vortexes must be important, and the vortexes are not in quasi-equilibrium. So the usefulness of the k-e model and other gradient models is limited. In this paper, according to actual cases of the turbulence, the velocity fluctuations are separated into large and small vortexes, and the large vortexes consist of two parts, one comes from up-stream and around, the other is locally generated. Thus we get a turbulence model, which consists of three parts.

Here, we are discussing the applicable ranges of one-equation and two-equation turbulence models with the viewpoint of similar theory. The criterions of determining the applicable ranges of these models are given.

In this paper the influence of temperature on velocity signal in hot-wire measurement of turbulence is analysed. It is pointed out that when the temperature influence is small, the temperature influence on measured intensity of velocity fluctuations is second order small and negligible. However, the temperature influence on measuring longitudinal heat flux is of first order quantity, and must be corrected, or large error will occur. The method to correct the temperature influence on measuring ρ θu and the procedure to decide experimentally temperature influence coefficient have been given.
