European Commission has conducted a survey about "Fake News" through EU citizens to estimate the awareness and people behaviour related to the appearance of fake news and disinformation on electronic. The findings are quite worrying, since about 40% come across fake news daily and 85% evaluate fake news as a problem. The aim of this work is to introduce an Artificial Intelligence approach, the Decision Trees algorithm to identify fake news on the COVID-19.

Introduction Vaccination is the best method for microbial and viral infections prevention. Especially for health professionals, flu vaccination is the best method to protect them, and the same applies for the patients and the general population from being infected. One of the most important preventive measure is vaccination and the main types of vaccines available, the limitations and side effects are briefly presented. Aim The aim of this paper is to present the necessity of the healthcare professionals to conceptualize the importance of flu vaccination ifor themselves and the general population. Healthcare professionals are influenced by their knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs. Epidemiological surveys on this issue are presented for Greece, European Union, and the USA. Methods A broad scope literature review was conducted based on a strict selection process of articles referring to the general population and the healthcare professionals with emphasis on the time period from the fall of 2018 until the spring of 2020 across Greece. The method used in this research obtained information through bibliographical references throughout Europe, USA, and relevant studies in Greece. Results The results of this research indicated that influenza vaccination among healthcare professionals in Greece in the time period 2018-2019 was higher in primary health centers (PHCs) with a percentage of 43.8% than in Hospitals which was 30.6%. In addition, in the time period 2019-2020 flu vaccination among health professionals was higher in PHCs with a percentage of 57.9% rather than in Hospitals with a percentage of 38.8%. Specifically, flu vaccination rate which took place in hospitals was higher among physicians than in other healthcare personnel. Furthermore, the fundamental reasons for recommending flu vaccination in healthcare professionals are presented, and issues related to denial or acceptance of it are highlighted. Measures and strategies are proposed in order to increase flu vaccination coverage in healthcare facilities in Greece. Conclusions Based on this research review healthcare professionals (HCPs) especially the ones working in ICUs, in ICUs for newborn children, in Departments for acute care infections, in Departments caring of persons with immunodeficiency or Units for transplantation, Oncology and Haematology Departments, and finally, in Emergency Care Units need directly to be vaccinated for the flu virus. Different measures have been undertaken to promote flu vaccination and the percentage of implementation has been highlighted.

Patients admitted to the ICU present life-threatening conditions requiring support from multidisciplinary specialists and continuous monitoring of vital signs and other parameters by a state-of-the-art medical technology. Wireless monitoring through wearable devices could be useful for hospitalized patients, particularly those who are unstable or at higher risk for serious complications such as critically ill patients. This review aims at summarizing current evidence regarding the use of wireless monitoring in the ICU setting. Relevant studies address some practical issues regarding wireless vital signs monitoring, detection of emergencies and delirium and pressure ulcer prevention. In general, wearable devices may offer multiple applications in the ICU setting. However, there are important limitations in their applicability related to high clinical requirements and patient, staff and environment related factors. Given the fast evolving field of wireless technology, more healthcare applications regarding the ICU are anticipated in the near future.

Invasive blood pressure (IBP) is the gold standard method for BP monitoring in critically ill patients. However, due to practical difficulties and complications, noninvasive methods may offer an alternative. We aim to evaluate an automatic oscillometry-based wrist BP monitor in critically ill patients compared to IBP. Forty five adult patients were included, and systolic, diastolic and mean BP (SBP, DBP, MBP) were simultaneously measured by IBP in the radial artery and by non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) monitoring using the OMRON RS7 automatic wrist monitor. NIBP and IBP (mean ± SD) were: SBP 114 ± 18 vs 130 ± 18; DBP 63 ± 13 vs 63 ± 13; MBP 80 ± 13 vs 86 ± 15 mmHg. Bland-Altman analysis of the differences (NIBP-IBP) mean bias was: SBP -16; DPB 0.5 and MBP -6. The OMRON wrist monitor may not be sufficiently accurate compared to IBP in critically ill patients.

The aim of our study is to propose a remote patient monitoring solution through a smart phone application (Smart Patient) collecting health data to support diagnosis, monitoring and predicting poor outcome in asymptomatic/mild cases of COVID-19, including signs and symptoms, risk factors, comorbidities, medications and vital signs such as body temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate and oxygen saturation. By continuous daily recording of suspected cases and patients, family doctors in the community will be able to follow up cases and intervene promptly when deterioration in vital signs and symptoms takes place referring the patient to the hospital.

During the last months the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) has been recognized as a global threat. Transmission of the infection has rapidly increased in Europe as well as in Greece, living behind a huge number of deaths. During this situation an analysis of the spread of the disease must be undertaken and characteristics of the virus must be recognized. For the analysis of the impact of the disease in the population during this time period, epidemiological indexes have been introduced.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) has been associated with a plethora of maternal and neonatal comorbidities as well as adverse pregnancy outcomes. Evidence supports that identifying women with GDM and tight controlling of blood glucose (BG) levels are the fundamental steps for an effective management and prevention of risks associated with GDM. Recent advances in mobile phone applications have shown that they may offer personalized health care services, improve patient's care, independence and self-management as well as enhance patient's compliance to BG monitoring and treatment. Our aim was to identify and appraise main mobile phone applications that were evaluated by published clinical studies. Therefore, mobile applications that were accepted and deployed by healthcare providers, mainly hospitals, such as MobiGuide (Spain), Pregnant+ (Norway) and GDm-Health (UK) were reviewed herein.

Experiences and outcomes of critically ill patients reflect quality of intensive care. The aim of this study was twofold: a) to investigate factors affecting patients' experiences to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and b) to measure patients' post discharge Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL).A cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection was carried out. The participants (n=108) were discharged patients from four ICUs of three military hospitals in Athens. Telephone interviews were conducted using the "Patient Empowerment Questionnaire" and "Quality of life Questionnaire".Patients suffering from pain (p0.001), polytraumatized or patients underwent a "non-scheduled surgery" (p=0.001) reported worse sleep at night. Mechanical ventilation was associated positively with pain relief (p=0.021). Extended length of stay (p0.001), bad health status prior ICU admission (p=0.005), "polytrauma" and "non-scheduled surgery" patients (p=0.032), mechanical ventilation (p=0.005) and pain during ICU stay (p=0.04) were correlated with worse HRQOL after discharge.ICU staff must consider the factors that affected patients' experiences during their ICU stay and worsened HRQOL after discharge. Adoption of new technological innovations could help them to improve the quality of intensive care provided.

Medical laboratories process and store sensitive data during four major phases: arrival of patients in the laboratory premises and registration of their data, pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases. ISO 15189 has specific requirements concerning the management of the laboratory data in terms of security, availability and protection. The aim of the present study was to examine major aspects of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) integration in medical laboratories that comply with the ISO 15189 standard, including data breach and informed consent. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study dealing with this subject in the healthcare sector. Accredited medical laboratories need to modify their ISO 15189 Quality System documentation and processes applying appropriate additions and adjustments in order to incorporate GDPR requirements in a clear manner.

Road accidents are one of the major causes of loss of life, injuries and damage of property. The aim of this paper is to assess the overall health status (physical and psychological) of road accident victims and to propose a Health IT system to managing the assessment procedure. A prospective observational study was conducted among 474 people attended to the emergency department, after a road accident. 30% of the participants were 18-28 years old. After the road accident, most patients (67.1%) did not develop depression and 3 and 6 months after the accident, depression levels were higher. In contrast, the patients' QoL showed improvement over time. As road accidents seems to be a high risk incidents that can affect the health status of people, an Health IT system is suggested to contribute on the management of the assessment of the patients' health status.

During the communication between various computer system parts under a basic unit various threats can appear causing different damages into the system. The spreading of the computer virus into the system must be investigated under modeling analysis and simulations must be applied. In this work survival analysis models have been introduced to overcome the problem with the computer virus. During that process of spreading two main considerations analyzed: (1) the epidemiological models of the spreading and (2) the survival of the computer virus inside the system under mathematical modeling.

The healthcare domain requires security against possible threats, such as viruses to defend the integrity of the health and patient records. During the system analysis, different parts of the sub systems are connected under a main system. Under these connections into the Internet, malicious programs are spread into the system network and damages to vital information have been appearing. For that reason, it is crucial to model the spreading of the computer virus using dynamic equation systems and the solution of these systems will be presented. In this work an epidemiological model SIR is presented, and the analysis of its performance is illustrated.

Quality standards have been widely adopted in healthcare, while the Hospital Information Systems (HIS) support quality management in modern hospitals. However, staff compliance lags behind. In this study, we investigated the effect of a novel application, implemented in the HIS, on staff compliance in the Intensive Care Unit of a tertiary teaching hospital. This application integrates quality protocols to the HIS, which is routinely used by the nursing staff. Demographic data and self-reported compliance were recorded before and after the intervention. We found that the compliance rate was significantly increased and the application was well accepted by the majority of the staff. We also showed that previous ICU working experience is independently and positively associated with compliance (p=0.02, OR=2.86; 95% CI: 1.16 - 7.06), after adjustment for age and total nursing experience In conclusion, we developed an effective application for quality improvement aiming at facilitating educational processes and enhancing staff compliance.

Introduction The aim of this research is to inform the health professionals about the ways of introducing and operating the the Diagnosis Related Groups (DRG's) system in the Hellenic National Health System, through the use of the development technologies. An effort is also made to explore the main dimensions of the implementation of the DRG's system, in specific European-Countries that have both adopted the public coverage schemes and the Bismarck health insurance institutions for countries with extensive experience in their implementation. Material and methods A review of the literature was attempted to investigate the ways of financing of the health services, and of the identification and functionality of the DRG's as well as of the methods used by European countries to investigate this prospective compensation system. Results The efficient application of DRGs gives the possibility to improve the economic management of Greek hospitals by retaining the costs and consequently contributing to the wise and effective management of hospital expenses. A short training of health professionals on the importance of DRGs in the effective running of Greek hospitals, led to the development of a website. This website will give information on this new method of pricing of hospital health services provided, and will contribute to the overall improvement of health services. Conclusion Introduction of DRGs, in Greek hospitals will establish a positive condition to solve many emerging health issues and to improve the overall functionality of the health system. Additionally, with the proper implementation of the DRG;s, the financial management of the Greek hospitals, can be improved by keeping the costs down through the proper utilization of the available resources.

Continuous Education can make a significant progress in any professional scientific discipline such as Nursing, which is constantly evolving. The main purpose of this paper is the review of contemporary literature in relation to the continuous education in community-nursing, with the use of health informatics. Additionally, these reasons are examined for which, nurses attend or not programs of continuing education. Finally, Accreditation, Interdisciplinary Education and Nursing Education to provide in the best possible way the necessary knowledge to students, is highlighted.

Decision Support Systems (DSS) is a powerful tool, for facilitates researchers to choose the correct decision based on their final results. Especially in medical cases where doctors could use these systems, to overcome the problem with the clinical misunderstanding. Based on these systems, queries must be constructed based on the particular questions that doctors must answer. In this work, combination between questions and queries would be presented via relational algebra.

Electronic patient records are important for quality health services and efficient patient data management. In emergency care, saving valuable time during patient care is of great significance. One out of two fatalities due to trauma occur half an hour after the injury. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential effect of an electronic trauma documentation system on the length of stay in an emergency department.A 2-year observational study was conducted in the emergency department of a university hospital located in central Greece. The purpose was to compare 3 length-of-stay parameters with and without the use of an electronic documentation system. Ninety-nine trauma patients were monitored with the use of the electronic system, whereas 101 patients were monitored with a paper-based method (control group).Statistical analysis using independent-samples t tests indicated that the time between admission and completion of the planned care was significantly lower in the electronic documentation patient group (100 ± 92 minutes) than in the control group (149 ± 29 minutes) (P.01). A similar effect was found on the total ED length of stay (127 ± 93 minutes in electronic documentation group vs 206 ± 41 minutes in control group, P.01) and the time between completion of care and discharge from the emergency department (26 ± 10 minutes in electronic documentation group vs 57 ± 23 minutes in control group, P.01).We investigated 3 length-of-stay parameters and found that all were lower with the use of the electronic documentation system. This finding is important regarding the quality of trauma patient care because saving time during the first hours after the injury may determine the outcome of the trauma patient.

Background: The aim of this review is to identify the roles and activities of nurses working with people with diabetes and to examine the facilitators and barriers in caring for such people. Methods: A systematic review was conducted. From 531 abstracts reviewed, 29 studies were included (18 studies comprised questionnaire surveys, one was an intervention study, two used both questionnaires and interviews, and eight of them used interviews). Barriers and facilitators were extracted and combined using qualitative synthesis. Results: The literature review revealed three major roles and a number of barriers. A model for achieving enhanced nursing care of patients with diabetes has been developed according to the findings of this literature. Specifically, a stepladder suggesting that through better nursing training and education and by providing adequate resources, time, and synergies to diabetes specialists, nurses will be able to correctly perform their diabetes care roles, which include patient education, advanced care, and psychological support. Conclusions: Taking into serious consideration that a large number of hospital users are people with diabetes and that there is an inconsistency among countries about the work settings of Diabetes Specialist Nurses (DSNs), it is important to give greater focus to inpatient care and perhaps to enhance nurses’ roles by eliminating any barriers that prevent them from providing adequate quality care. Furthermore, integrated care involving the role of DSNs within the inpatient care would have been more beneficial for patients.

The aim of this review is to present mobile health applications which help individuals to change their smoking habit. An online search on scientific databases and mobile application stores was conducted to collect information about m-Health and the smoking cessation. 12 papers found discussing about mobile applications and solutions for quit smoking referred to 4 different technological approaches. Based on the research results, mobile devices and their applications constitute an excellent mean that can help smokers by providing counseling and give them the necessary motivation to smoking cessation.

Chronic Pain (CP) is a condition which is difficult to assess. Existing methods are based on self-management treatments and leaving the big part of the assessment on the patient. According on this method, mHealth applications offer tools to CP patients to self-manage their condition and improve it. All the applications are limited by the type of data they collect and the data based on self-reporting. In the future the applications for CP management will not be based only on this type of data. Multiple types of data will be gathered and analyzed, as well as the specialists will be able to have a better prospective for the patients' pain levels.

Social networks provide an alternative way to communicate and exchange of information with various people. Especially for Health Care Professionals, information ought to be exchanged and shared between individuals for diagnosis and proposed therapies. In this research, the important sources of medical information that people trust, through the exchange of information on social networks, were analyzed based on the perceived information quality using path models. A questionnaire was developed to run the survey. Based on the answers, it seems that the surveyed population does not trust heavily the content of social networks as source of information for healthcare issues. Further research is needed to examine the trustiness of social networks as a Source of Health Care Information.

Neurological disorders affect the lifestyle and the living conditions of a patient. Virtual Reality is a technology that may be used to simulate various types of tasks in a computerized environment guiding the patient and help on rehabilitation. This review try to answer how Virtual Reality technologies can effect on the patients rehabilitation's results. Treatments which involves Virtual Reality applications offer new ways to make the patients more committed to their program and keeps them motivated. Another characteristic of a Virtual Reality treatment is that both patients and therapists can observe the mistakes made during a physiotherapy session. The insert of VR sessions in traditional rehabilitation therapy of patients with neurological disorders have produced positive results.

The topic has a new interest because of the progress in technology of telecommunications and information systems. The current article makes an effort to inform the reader in a simple way about what Telemedicine is and where it can be used. In this paper is presented the definition and the purpose of telemedicine, followed by the services provide through telemedicine applications. Finally, is analyzed the use of telemedicine in Greece its advantages, benefits and disadvantages, concluding with a final evaluation of it.

The use of applications for mobile devices and wireless sensors is common for the sector of telemedicine. Recently various studies and systems were developed in order to help patients suffering from severe diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and Parkinson's disease. They present a challenge for the sector because such systems demand the flow of accurate data in real time and the use of specialized sensors. In this review will be presented some very interesting applications developed for patients with cardiovascular diseases and Parkinson's disease.

Over the course of the last decades there has been a significant interest in assessing the quality of the health care services. Professionals and experts recognize patient satisfaction as an important indicator of the so-called quality. The purpose of the study is to measure patients' satisfaction in a military hospital in relation to educational and staffing levels of the health care workers. The evaluation in the individual level has been done by completing questionnaires. The study involved 109 patients from 2 clinics. According to the results, the majority of the patients indicated high satisfaction level both from physicians and nurses. The high educational level and general competence of the health care personnel are the key elements for the efficient provision of health care services.

The last six years the global community is facing an economic crisis that first appeared in USA. This crisis has a lot of impacts especially in health sector. Unemployment, job insecurity and the loss of disposable income have a significant impact in health too. The main objective of this research was to investigate the quality of life of the general population in Greece during the financial crisis. To collect the data it has been used the Greek version of Short Form (36) Health Survey (SF-36v2). In general, income, level of education, cohabitation and parenthood had a significant impact in quality of life. As a conclusion, unemployed participants' score was lower in the entire dimensions and in the two summary scales too.

In recent years the costs of hospital care in developed countries absorbed a high proportion of total health resources. In Greece, after the establishment of the National Health System (NHS), funding for hospitals comes mainly from the state budget, and social insurance, therefore auditing of hospital cost is imperative to ensure their viability, especially at this time when the country is tested by economic crisis. Overtime many factors for the increase of hospital cost have been mentioned, such as the rapid development of medical technology, the low level of organization of the hospital system and the low productivity of human resources. The problem of rising health expenditure over the past decades is a worldwide phenomenon and it has brought about many changes in traditional retrospective methods for financing in the hospital sector, with prospective financial forms that combine patient composition and needs, and the productive activity of hospital need to the rationalization and contain expenditures. The system of Diagnosis Related Groups was a revolutionary success over the past decades and has now achieved worldwide recognition.

The importance of recognizing the symptoms of Internet addiction constitutes the first step for treatment. Internet use can be pathological, and the percentage of addicted people is increasing while people become dependent on technology and Internet continues to develop. This study is a systematic litterature review. An electronic literature search was conducted using as keywords internet addiction, psychological implications, internet abuse etc. to the following databases: Medline, PubMed and Google Schoolar. The majority of research was conducted in Europe and in North America. We found 20 surveys. 9 were excluded on the basis of screening due to full text articles were not available. The final number of included surveys was 11. Hospitals and clinics have to emerge with outpatient treatment services for Internet addiction recovery, and in some cases there may be a need for addiction rehabilitation centers as admitted from people with Internet addiction into inpatient care.

The purpose of this study is register the opinion of nurses on the compatibility of the Nursing Information System with the provision of nursing care, and the ease of learning of the subsystem. This paper is an empirical study that was conducted using a questionnaire in Cancer and Oncology Hospital "Agios Savvas". Specifically, 121 nurses (108 women and 13 men) of all education levels participated in the survey. According to user responses, 86% agreed partially that the subsystem was easy to learn, and 40.5 % of this 86% believe that the clinical subsystem adequately supports nursing care, mainly engaged in designing the necessary processes, and followed by reducing errors. In conclusion, we can consider that the use of information systems in nursing is important for improving clinical practice and quality of patient care.

The provision of health care has undergone radical changes during the last years. Geography plays an important role in understanding the dynamics of health, as well as the reasons why a disease is spreading. In general, a Geographic Information System (GIS) is based on the same principals with a traditional relational database. The main idea behind this study is the methodological approach as far as the implementation of a real- time electronic healthcare record is concerned, for the descriptive statistical analysis that uses geographical information to identify spatial data related to accidents. The purpose of developing such a health care record is to record the patients who were injured in accidents. The database that will be used for the development of the EHR is based on Microsoft Office 2007, which is considered to be one of the best tools for developing databases. The main table of the database includes the fields with demographics, ie name, surname, age, sex, address and place of birth. The primary key of the table Demographics is Patient_ID. The demographics from the table are connected to the table Admission with a relationship type one- to- many. The combination of these features in a graphic representation can be used to display the health problems on the map, so that the proper health policies can be applied. The results of the monitoring could be used as pilot instructions for spatial epidemiological analysis.
