Objetivo: Contribuir para o arsenal literário oftalmológico, no que tange ao perfil ocular da população brasileira. Metodologia: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo e retrospectivo, através da análise de prontuários eletrônicos de pacientes atendidos em um hospital especializado em doenças oftalmológicas (Fundação Leiria de Andrade), abrangendo a população da região metropolitana de Fortaleza – Ceará – Brasil. A amostragem foi realizada de forma aleatória simples e estratificada por idade. Resultado: Dos 382 prontuários selecionados, foi obtido uma idade média de 36 anos e um desvio padrão de 19. Ademais, dentre as doenças mais prevalentes, estavam conjuntivite (51,2%), trauma (12,3%), calázio/hordéolo (7,9%), olho vermelho (6,8%) e blefarite (5,2%). Entre os casos de conjuntivite, a prevalência foi maior entre os meses de fevereiro e abril, que correspondem aos meses chuvosos no estado do Ceará. Conclusão: Os dados epidemiológicos obtidos mostraram uma busca elevada de atendimento oftalmológico pela população economicamente ativa e, principalmente, para doenças como a conjuntivite.

Instituto de Quimica Resumo: Neste trabalho, realizou-se o estudo da cinética de formação de radicais produzidos no estado eletrônico excitado e o estudo da formação das partículas de fuligem, durante a combustão de misturas de C2H2/O2 e C2H2/O2/Ar produzidas em uma câmara fechada. Na metodologia utilizada, o processo de combustão é turbulento e ocorre na ausência do ar atmosférico. Desta forma, é possível obter uma correlação entre a pressão e composição da mistura que queima, e a formação e reação das espécies presentes na chama. A cinética de formação dos radicais excitados OH*, CHO*, CH* e C2*, principais emissores em chamas de hidrocarbonetos, foi estudada pela determinação de suas intensidades de emissão em função do tempo. A evolução das partículas de fuligem, durante a combustão das misturas ricas em acetileno, foi observada através do espalhamento e absorção da luz de um laser por essas partículas, em função do tempo. Realizou-se também a análise morfológica das partículas formadas por microscopia eletrônica de varredura. As medidas espectroscópicas de emissão dos radicais excitados foram associadas à simulação computacional da cinética de combustão, permitindo se estabelecer um mecanismo reacional para o processo de combustão turbulento da mistura de C2H2/O2 e identificando-se as principais rotas de reação para a formação dos radicais excitados: H + O2 = OH* + O CH + O = CHO* C2H + O2 = CH* + CO2 CH2 + C = C2* + H2 Abstract: In this work, a kinetic study of radicals in the excited electronic state and a study of soot particles evolution from C2H2/O2 and C2H2/O2/Ar flames in a closed chamber was carry out. In the methodology used the combustion process is turbulent and occurs in the atmospheric air absence. Therefore, we can correlate mixture pressure and composition that burning to species formation and reactions in the flame. The formation kinetic of OH*, CHO*, CH* and C2* excited radicals, which are the main emitters in the hydrocarbon flames was studied by emission intensities as a function of time determination. The soot particle evolution from fuel-rich flames was observed through laser light scattering and absorption. The morphology analysis of these soot particles was executed by scanning electronic microscope. RESUMO: Aquisição de coleções geológicas para o Museu de História Natural da Universidade de Coimbra, especialmente incidente no final do século XIX, remonta à reforma pombalina (1772). Após décadas de uso intenso no ensino prático, muitos destes acervos encontram-se nos reservados do museu, incluindo uma extensa coleção de rochas do comptoir alemão Krantz, posterior a 1885. Esta inclui 470 amostras de mão de rochas metamórficas europeias, das quais 34 com fósseis de plantas e invertebrados do paleozoico da Alemanha (19), República Checa (7), Dinamarca (4), entre outros países. Contém pteridófitas (61,8%), graptólitos (23,5%), bivalves (5,9%), crinoides (2,9%), crustáceos (2,9%) e um “falso fóssil”. Este conjunto valoriza a coleção histórica de rochas, relacionando sedimentogénese, fossilização e metamorfismo, conteúdos temáticos dos programas de Ciências Naturais lecionados no ensino básico e secundário de Portugal. No seu todo, constitui um importante capital científico e didático, merecendo valorização e divulgação, particularmente, através da comunicação digital. ABSTRACT: The acquisition of geological collections for the Natural History Museum of the University of Coimbra, particularly incident in the late 19th century, dates back to the pombaline reform (1772). After decades of intense use in practical teaching, many collections are now in the museum reserves, including a large set of metamorphic rocks bought from the German comptoir Krantz, after 1885. It includes 470 hand-samples of European metamorphic rocks, of which 34 with fossils of plants and invertebrates from the Palaeozoic of Germany (19), Czech Republic (7) and Denmark (4), among other countries. It contains pteridophytes (61.8%), graptolites (23.5%), bivalves (5.9%), crinoids (2.9%), crustaceans (2.9%) and a “Pseudofossils”. Its presence values the historical rock collection, relating sedimentogenesis, fossilization and metamorphism, themes of Natural Sciences taught in middle and high school. RERUMO: Partindo da problematização – Podemos encontrar fósseis em rochas metamórficas? – construiu-se uma aprendizagem baseada na resolução de problemas (ABRP) que pretende desafiar os alunos de “Ciências Naturais” (7.º ano) e de “Biologia e Geologia” (10.º/11.º anos) a utilizarem metodologias de trabalho similares às metodologias de investigação dos cientistas. Selecionaram-se os conteúdos temáticos fósseis e metamorfismo, desenhou-se o cenário geológico, planificaram-se e construíram-se, em formato digital, todos os recursos didático-pedagógicos necessários à implementação da ABRP, nomeadamente: guião do professor; PowerPoint e vídeo de apresentação da ABRP e cenário geológico, e a App “Fósseis em rochas metamórficas”. Os recursos didático-pedagógicos foram validados por especialistas de Geologia e de Educação e disponibilizados na plataforma Google Sites, com a designação “Rochas metamórficas”. Com esta ABRP pretende-se a corresponsabilização pessoal de participação/empenho, a valorização de processos e produtos do trabalho interpares, o desenvolvimento cognitivo, procedimental e afetivo e despertar o interesse dos alunos pelas ciências. ABSTRACT: From the question – Can we find fossils in metamorphic rocks? – problem-based learning (PBL) was implemented, aiming to challenge “Natural Sciences” (7th grade) and “Biology and Geology” (10th/11th grade) students to use methodologies similar to the scientific process. The thematic contents fossils and metamorphism were selected, the geological scenario was designed, and all the didactic and pedagogical resources needed for the implementation of the PBL were planned and constructed in digital format, namely: teacher's guide; PowerPoint and video presentation of the PBL and geological scenario, and the App "Fossils in metamorphic rocks" for the students. The didactic-pedagogical resources were validated by Geology and Education experts and made available on Google Sites platform, entitled "Metamorphic rocks". Metamorphic rocks and, consequently, the metamorphic processes responsible for their genesis, are thematic contents taught in the discipline of Biology and Geology of the 10th and 11th years of schooling, widely represented in the Geology of Portugal, which allows a contextualized teaching, using different strategies and methodologies that value Science, and the development of skills to deal with the challenges of the contemporary society, which is more and more technological and globalizing. The universe of rocks and the teaching/learning of metamorphism are presented as the theme of this project, which aims to: 1) evaluate the cognitive level, according to Bloom's revised taxonomy, of the theoretical and practical contents, included in school textbooks of the 10th/11th years and national exams of Biology and Geology, and verify whether they are congruent; 2) to analyze the students' responses to questions of the national exams on metamorphic rocks, taking into account their cognitive level; 3) select practical activities in school textbooks, scientific books and didactic websites of national and international universities, to build digital, innovative and interactive didactic-pedagogical resources that can be applied in a real context; 4) to validate the materials constructed to assess their didactic and scientific correction; and 5) to assess the contribution of the resources built in the adequate learning of the students and in the construction of literacy in Geosciences.

This article aims to evaluate the innovation management capacities of knowledge intensive business services (KIBS) and verify to what extent these companies return different profiles when classified by urban versus rural. Taking a sample of 500 KIBS, we applied a questionnaire with results revealing different explanatory variables for KIBS innovation capacities. From the set of five dimensions studied, factors relating strategy, learning, and network best explained rural versus urban KIBS innovation capacities.

Considering the deep transformations that the banking sector has been experiencing in recent years at a competitive level, this research focuses on identifying the determinants of competitiveness and the variables affecting the same, regarding the level of resources, capabilities and competencies of the local branches. This study focuses in particular on the analysis of the determinants of competitiveness of a specific type of company (agency) in a particular sector (Commercial banking). The research studied all the 40 bank branches of the financial institution Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) located in the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda (Portugal). Given the results of the study, it was possible to assess the perception of internal employees in relation to the critical determinants of competitiveness. It was further observed that the competitiveness of banks differs according to the evaluation of performance, with the planning of activities of human resources with the system of incentives and with the motivation of their managers. As to possible differences in perception between the various commercial managements involved, there were no significant differences on the factors of competitiveness.

This research aims to analyse the innovative performance of a Portuguese region (NUT III Beira Interior Sul) throughout the application of the Triple Helix (TH) approach, examining its capacity to describe and explain the innovative dynamics of the low density regions as engine of its competitiveness. The TH model seems to be a useful analytical tool to approach and organise public policy and actors’ strategy oriented to shape and nurture emerging and fragile innovation systems, namely to identify and characterize regional actors and networks, its performance and links with national and international innovation support organisations and firms, the emerging interface institutions, institutional framework, as well as policy implications to embed the regional competitiveness within government-academia-industry partnerships.

La solidaridad internacional y la responsabilidad compartida que se manifiestan en la protección de los refugiados en Brasil contrastan fuertemente con las tendencias restrictivas que se pueden observar en otros muchos países.

Objetivo: analisar a produção científica sobre a infecção de profissionais de saúde pelo vírus da Imunodeficiência Humana (HIV) a partir de acidentes ocupacionais. Metodologia: revisão integrativa da literatura, desenvolvida em 2013, a partir de busca realizada no acervo de periódicos da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, empregando-se os descritores “acidente de trabalho” e “HIV”. Após criteriosa seleção dos artigos encontrados, obteve-se uma amostra de nove produções. Resultados: os dados do estudo apontam uma baixa prevalência de infecções pelo HIV, porém, destacam a ocorrência de casos de subnotificação e a negligência de quimioprofilaxia. Quanto ao perfil dos acidentes ocupacionais, observou-se uma maior prevalência de profissionais da equipe de enfermagem e do gênero feminino. Evidenciou-se também o medo, a culpa e o desespero como os sentimentos mais manifestados após a exposição a fluidos biológicos. Conclusão: os acidentes de trabalho configuram-se como um problema sério de saúde pública. Portanto, faz-se necessário o planejamento e a implementação de orientações específicas aos profissionais por parte dos serviços de saúde, a fim de mudar a realidade atual. Teorias Discursivas em Diálogo: Perspetivas e Análises oferece um olhar reflexivo sobre os textos escolares e académicos, numa perspetiva simultaneamente teórica e prática. O livro aborda a relação entre os textos e o contexto social; explora caminhos de análise segundo parâmetros discursivos; problematiza a organização dos textos em classes e apresenta propostas para a sua didatização. Adota, para o efeito, um enquadramento teórico múltiplo, convocando várias correntes linguísticas de pendor discursivo, com destaque para o Interacionismo Sociodiscursivo, a Linguística Sistémico-Funcional, a Análise do Discurso, a Análise Textual dos Discursos e a Sociolinguística Interacional. Esta abordagem heterogénea visa potenciar um entendimento mais aprofundado dos textos escolares e académicos, ao mesmo tempo que promove o diálogo entre teorias. Background Dolutegravir (DTG)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) is highly effective and well-tolerated in adults and is rapidly being adopted globally. We describe the design of the ODYSSEY trial which evaluates the efficacy and safety of DTG-based ART compared with standard-of-care in children and adolescents. The ODYSSEY trial includes nested pharmacokinetic (PK) sub-studies which evaluated pragmatic World Health Organization (WHO) weight-band-based DTG dosing and opened recruitment to children Methods ODYSSEY (Once-daily DTG based ART in Young people vS. Standard thErapY) is an open-label, randomised, non-inferiority, basket trial comparing the efficacy and safety of DTG + 2 nucleos(t) ides (NRTIs) versus standard-of-care (SOC) in HIV-infected children Results Between September 2016 and June 2018, 707 children weighing ≥14 kg were enrolled; including 311 ART-naïve children and 396 children starting second-line. 47% of children were enrolled in Uganda, 21% Zimbabwe, 20% South Africa, 9% Thailand, 4% Europe. 362 (51%) participants were male; median age [range] at enrolment was 12.2 years [2.9–18.0]. 82 (12%) children weighed 14 to Conclusions By employing a basket design, to include ART-naïve and -experienced children, and nested PK sub-studies, the ODYSSEY trial efficiently evaluates multiple scientific questions regarding dosing and effectiveness of DTG-based ART in children. Background: Malignant left-sided large bowel obstruction is a common complication among patients with colorectal cancer. There is still debate regarding which is the best method to treat these patients. Conventionally emergency surgery has been the elected treatment option but self-expanding metal stents as a bridge to surgery has been advocated as an acceptable alternative. Self-expanding metallic stents may decrease mortality and morbidity in comparison with emergency surgery and may decrease the stoma rate, which supposes a benefit in quality of life for the patients. Objective: The aim of this protocol is to compare the rates of mortality and morbidity of the self-expanding metal stents used as a bridge to surgery with emergency surgery in the treatment of acute malignant left colonic obstruction in short term and long term. And also compare the quality of life of the patients included in the study. Design: A randomized controlled trial that include 130 patients. Non probabilistic sampling will be performed in order to obtain our patients. The study is planned to last six years, during the first three years we will recruit the patients and in the course of the following three we will collect data of quality of life and complications from that patients. Setting: This protocol of study will take place in the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Liège. Participants: Adult patients with an acute left colonic obstruction due to an obstructing tumor between the splenic flexure and rectosigmoid juntction that consult in the emergency department. The patients are randomized in the emergency department in two groups of treatment, the group of emergency surgery or the stent as a bridge to surgery. χ2 (Chi Square) test will be used to prove statistical association between interventions and the diminution of mortality and morbidity

Tese de Doutoramento em Gestão Desde o início do século XX, a preocupação com o tema da responsabilidade social das empresas fez incrementar novos conceitos e comportamentos que exigem da sociedade, e de todos os stakeholders, que assumam o seu dever de participar do processo de desenvolvimento social, humano, econômico, político, cultural e ambiental. O combate às desigualdades sociais e ao abismo cultural que divide os cidadãos, a promoção do desenvolvimento e do bem-estar do ser humano, não são tarefas exclusivas do Estado, elas perpassam por todas as instituições. A construção de uma sociedade mais justa, equanime e fraterna torna-se compromisso individual e da coletividade. Nesse contexto social encontram-se as universidades, formadoras de novos saberes, forjas da responsabilidade social. A educação torna o ser humano mais produtivo ao longo da vida e contribui, de forma eficaz, para o progresso e o crescimento econômico (g)local. Nesta investigação, procurou-se dar um contributo para melhor entendimento sobre a questão de como as universidades, por meio da responsabilidade social, tem contribuído na formação de capital humano, na construção do capital social e ainda como podem causar impacto no desenvolvimento local sustentável por meio da capacitação profissional. A Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro - UTAD, situada na região norte de Portugal e a Universidade de Fortaleza - UNIFOR, localizada no nordeste do Brasil, foram campos de estudos de investigação e analise deste trabalho, tendo por base um modelo teórico original composto por quatro dimensões: Na análise de dados, recolhidos através de entrevista aos gestores das instituições e de questionários e entrevistas aos alunos dos cursos de capacitação, recorreu-se à análise de conteúdo e à modelação de equações estruturais. As universidades, UTAD e UNIFOR, apesar das diferenças estruturais, organizacionais e culturais, apresentam o compromisso com o desenvolvimento econômico e social da região onde estão inseridas e promovem projetos de responsabilidade social em diversas áreas do conhecimento, onde se destacam notadamente os projetos educacionais a nível da capacitação profissional. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo mostraram que as universidades: i) investem no capital humano, com a oferta de cursos gratuitos de capacitação profissional, baseados na demanda e características da região; ii) promovem a melhoria da qualidade de vida das pessoas que vivem nas regiões circunvizinhas às instituições; iii) incentivam a criação de empresas e de novos negócios, na promoção da inovação e do empreendedorismo; iv) formam profissionais de excelência, comprometidos e conscientes com os problemas sociais; v) promovem a auto-estima e a credibilidade entre as pessoas da mesma comunidade, isto é, investem no capital social e vi) tornam-se agentes transformadores e instrumentos de desenvolvimento local sustentável. Since the early twentieth century, concerns about the corporate social responsibility led to an increasing number of new concepts and behaviors that require the society and all stakeholders to take their duty to participate in the social, human, economic, political, cultural and environmental development process. The struggle against social inequalities and cultural chasm that divides the citizens, promoting development and welfare of human beings, are not exclusive of the State, they permeate all institutions. Building a fairer society, equal and fraternal, becomes an individual and collective commitment. In this social context are the universities, forming new knowledge, forging social responsibility. Education makes the human being productive throughout life and contributes, effectively, to the progress and economic (g)local growth. In this investigation, we have tried to make a contribution to better understanding on how universities, through social responsibility, have contributed to the development of human capital, building social capital, and on how they may impact on local sustainable development through vocational training. The University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro – UTAD, located in northern Portugal, and the University of Fortaleza – UNIFOR, located in northeastern Brazil, were the subject of analysis of this work, based on a theoretical model, composed of four dimensions. The data was collected through interviews to the managers of institutions and questionnaires and interviews with students of the training courses. Content analysis and structural equation modeling has been used for generating the results. Universities, UTAD and UNIFOR, despite the structural, organizational and cultural differences, have an evident commitment with the economic and social development of the region where they operate and promote social responsibility projects in various areas of knowledge, notably, the professional training educational projects. The results of this study showed that the universities are: i) investing in human capital by offering free courses of professional training, based on the demand and characteristics of the region, ii) promoting the improvement of welfare of the people who lives in the region of the institutions, iii) encouraging entrepreneurship and new business opportunities, iv) training professionals of excellence, committed and conscious about the social problems, v) promoting self-esteem and credibility among people of the same community, i.e., invest in social capital and vi) becoming agents and instruments of local sustainable development.
