Background: Pectoralis-Serratus interfascial plane block is a peripheral block of the thoracic wall that presents analgesia of its anterolateral portion. Dexmedetomidine, a specific α-2 adrenoceptor agonist, has sedative, anxiolytic, and analgesic properties. The aim of this work was to assess the analgesic safety and efficacy of Pectoralis-Serratus interfascial plane block in contrast with dexmedetomidine infusion for unilateral radical mastectomy. Methods: This prospective randomized study was carried out on 60 adult patients with American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I/II scheduled for elective unilateral radical mastectomy. The cases were classified randomly into two equal groups: group I: received ultrasound guided pectoralis serratus interfacial plane block and group II: received dexmedetomidine infusion. All patients were subjected to routine laboratory investigations (coagulation profile, CBC, liver and renal function tests) and visual analogue scale (VAS). Field experiments were conducted at New Halfa Research Farm, Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC), Sudan during the two consecutive seasons, (2008/2009 and 2009/2010), to study the effect of sowing date on growth, yield and yield components of cotton cultivar (Barac 67B), under irrigation conditions. Six sowing dates (Mid June, first July, mid-July, 1st August, mid-August and end August) were used in this study. Randomized Complete Block design with four replications was used. Observations on seed cotton yield and some agronomic parameters were recorded. Data for each season and combined were statistically analyzed using MSTAT-C. Results indicated that, sowing date significantly affected for all characters under study. It was concluded that, earlier sowing (mid June - mid July) resulted in higher number of bolls/plant. Mid June had longer period to maturity, taller plants (cm) and higher seed cotton yield (kantar/fed).

Background: Helicobacter pylori is a human-specific pathogen, which leads to gastric pathologies including gastric cancer. Fifty percent of the world's population from 62 countries is infected with H. pylori infection. Making it the most widespread infection in humans. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of H. pylori infection among patients with gastrointestinal symptoms. Materials and Methods: This study was descriptive cross-sectional Hospital-based study conducted at Somali Sudanese Specialized Hospital (SSSH), Mogadishu, Somalia during the period of December 2022 to March 2023. A total of 1009 subjects were included in the study. Fresh stool samples were collected for antigen detection. The test was done in the ICT of H. pylori stool antigen detection (Intec, China; catalog number ITP10003-DS50). The data was gathered using per-designed structural questionnaire and the SPSS 26.0 statistical software (SPSS Inc., USA) was used for statistical analysis. Results: The age of the study population ranges from 5 months to 62 years with a mean age of 34 ± 27.5 years. 57.4% of them were female patients, where 42.6% were male patients. The study showed no significant correlation between gender and frequency of H. pylori infection with P-value of 0.137. According to the frequency of H. pylori infection among the patients with gastrointestinal symptoms; 44.8% of them had H. pylori infection. Regarding to frequency of H. pylori infection in the recent months, the most frequent period of prevalence was in February (56.5%), followed by January (51.1%), followed by December (43.8%) where the least frequent was in March (26.9%) which showed significant correlation between prevalence period and H. pylori infection frequency with P-value of 0.000. Conclusion: This study concluded a high frequency of H. pylori infection among patients with gastrointestinal symptoms.

Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics (MPs) can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian populations. However, our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary, and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging pollutants. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs (PE-MPs) (alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants) on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri tadpoles. After 30 days of exposure, multiple biomarkers were measured, including morphological, biometric, and developmental indices, behavioral parameters, mutagenicity, cytotoxicity, antioxidant and cholinesterase responses, as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in animals. Based on the results, there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments, but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with the mixture of pollutants, reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical responses. Through principal component analysis (PCA) and integrated biomarker response (IBR) assessment, effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished, confirming that the exposure of P. cuvieri tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response, although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animals was reduced. Thus, our study provides new insight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments.

Background: The no-reflow phenomenon is critical and, if not reversed, causes a high rate of morbidity and mortality. It was demonstrated that the no-reflow phenomenon after Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) is a strong predictor of mortality after the acute event in patients with STEMI. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of visible thrombus aspiration (VTA) material on no reflow and its relation to hospital mortality and early outcomes in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). Methods: This prospective observational study conducted on 100 patients admitted with acute STEMI and treated with primary PCI within 24 hours of presentation. Patients were divided into two groups: Group VTA (n=58): who had visible thrombus aspiration material (VTA) (defined as collected visible aspiration material, including atherothrombotic debris or thrombus) & Group non VTA (n=42): who had non-VTA (defined as no visible aspiration material and only blood). Results: There was significant statistical difference between group VTA & Group non VTA as regard No reflow after aspiration(15.5%vs 45.5%, P =0.001), In hospital mortality (0% vs 9.5% ,P = 0.016), LVEF at hospital (47.90 ± 5.38 vs 42.36 ± 5.95, P =0.001) and LVEF after 1 month (51.90 ± 4.36 vs 48.83 ± 4.53, P =0.001). However, there was no significant statistical difference between both groups as regard baseline TIMI flow, syntax score, in-hospital MACE, length of hospital stays. Conclusions: Our study resulted in aspiration of macro visible thrombus materials led to lower rates of no reflow after aspiration and better short-term clinical outcomes and prognosis than those patients with non-visible thrombus aspiration materials with ST-elevation myocardial infarction treated with pPCI.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 is a serious infection resulting in a global threat caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) characterized by different symptoms, ranging from mild flu to severe pneumonia. Objective:To focus on the oral manifestations which could be present in some cases of COVID-19 and to assess the associations between oral health and COVID19. on188 medical specialists in Sulaimaniyah city. The questionnaire was composed of 3 parts; the 1st part included demographic features. The 2nd part was composed of questions concerning the oral hygiene condition of the participants, and the 3rd section encompassed questions about oral complications during infection with COVID-19. Results: Among 188 participants, 92% complained of oral manifestation while being infected with Covid-19 at significant levels. Facial and masticatory muscle pain 27.1%, facial or oral numbness 8%, jaw bones or joint pain 39.9%, changes in buccal mucosa and gingiva 10.1%, bleeding gingivitis 9%, Altered taste sensation 67.6%, altered smell sensation 69.1% and xerostomia 54.8% were highly associated with Covid-19. Conclusion: Some cases of Covid-19 usually present with different oral manifestations. Therefore, oral care monitoring should be enhanced for Covid-19 patients and maintain good oral health.

Background: Pregnancy is a physiological process during which a major hormonal change take place which leads to an imbalance in the oral environment and development of oral manifestation that can adversely affect mother’s health and the health of the unborn child. Objective: To assess the prevalence of the oral manifestation of pregnant women and to evaluate the correlation of these manifestations with the oral hygiene status. Patients and Methods: A total of 150 pregnant women were enrolled in this study on which a meticulous intraoral examination and evaluation of oral health status using oral hygiene index simplified (OHI-S) carried out. Results: The most involved age group was (21-25) years 38.00%. It was concluded that the most frequent oral finding was halitosis 67.33%, followed by dry mouth 59.33%, taste alteration 46%, pregnancy epulis 9.33%, candidiasis 7.33%, and ulceration 4%. In addition, pregnancy epulis and halitosis were significantly correlated with poor oral hygiene. Conclusion: Pregnancy is associated with oral manifestations; therefore, dentists should be aware of such manifestations and provide education regarding oral health status and maintenance of good oral hygiene during pregnancy

This study aims to investigate the association between chronic khat chewing (5 to 30 years duration) and dyslipidemia among healthy males in Al Shuaib District. One hundred participants from different villages agreed to complete the study with us. In this cross sectional study sample objects 230 males were selected randomly and divided according to ages and chewing khat duration, into four groups each (n= 20) and a control group of (n=20) non khat chewers. Data were obtained using a questionnaires and fasting blood sample collected and examined for lipid profile measurements including levels of total cholesterol TC, triglyceride TG, low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).The mean levels of TC in groups D (179.5mg/dl) and E (180mg/dl) was higher significantly than control group subjects (156mg/dl). levels of HDL decreased in khat chewers; D and E groups (44.5mg/dl and 41mg/dl) respectively compared to the control group (46.4mg/dl). On the other hand, the average LDL increased in the D and E subject groups (103.4mg/dl) and (112.4mg/dl) respectively compared with control 93.8mg/dl. The level of TG was increased in all study groups A, B, D and E having statistical significance p < 0.05 compared with control C. There was a higher dyslipidemia among subjects of khat chewing groups than non khat chewers in relation to increase of mean years of khat chewing. There is a significant association between chronic khat chewing and dyslipidemia especially the decrease in HDL-C level was the main lipid variable followed by TG level. The imbalanced lipid profile might be due to genetic factor or social dietary habits, besides wide spread use of pesticides during cultivation of khat plant which have toxicity in area of study.

3D printing is one of the most portentous technologies for the time being. Recently, 3D printing has progressed remarkably and is expected to proceed in numerous applications, such as automotive, medical, wind turbine, and aerospace applications. 3D printing technology opens the door to enhancing and optimizing several applications. Although of such advancement, there is still a lack of the tribological research investigations in this area. This work is devoted to studying the tribological properties of 3D printed polymers (ABS, PLA, Co-polyester, and PCL) for utilization in a wide range of applications, such as medical, automotive, and various tribological applications. The test specimens were printed using fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology. The tribological characteristics of 3D printed specimens were evaluated using a pin-on-disc tester. Vicker's hardness tester was used to determine the specimens' hardness. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with backscattering was used to examine the worn surfaces of samples. Based on the findings of the current investigation, it was discovered that 3D printing technology enhanced the bonding strength and wear resistance of the tested specimens. Furthermore, the 3D-printed polymers (ABS, PLA, Co-polyester, and PCL) produced varying friction coefficient (high and low) values at acceptable wear resistance making them suitable for a wide range of applications. The samples that were printed using PLA and co-polyester had the lowest coefficients of friction (0.3) while the samples that were printed using ABS and PCL had the greatest coefficients of friction (0.4) and (0.39) respectively.

Objective: To develop and estimate the intranasal delivery of Levetiracetam surfactant-based nanovesicles (Lev-Nvs) as a brain-targeted antiepileptic delivery system prepared via solvent evaporation technique. Methods: Optimized formulation F (OPT) chosen by the Design-Expert® program gave the highest entrapment efficiency (EE%) was incorporated into the gel. An experimental design was adopted utilizing various (span 65) surfactants and different cholesterol ratios. The (Lev-Nvs) nanovesicles were formulated by solvent evaporation technique and evaluated for in vitro characterization parameters such as zeta sizer, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), zeta potential. The nasal gel was evaluated for drug-excipient interactions utilizing Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and subjected to in vitro and in vivo release studies. Results: The results indicated that the entrapment efficiency (EE%) of Levetiracetam surfactant-based nano-vesicles (Lev-Nvs) could be modulated by the alterations in surfactant and cholesterol concentrations. Optimized formulation F (OPT) showed an entrapment efficiency of (87.9±1.06 %), (206.7±20.43 nm) particle size, (-34.1) zeta potential and (0.979) PDI. The nanovesicle nasal gels of the F(OPT) were prepared using Carbopol 940 at different concentrations. G 0.375 formulation showed the best in vitro drug release (87.36%) after 12 h. Finally, the comparative in vivo pharmaco-kinetics release studies on rats revealed considerable, sustained release of the nanovesicle nasal gel and higher relative bioavailability than an equivalent dose of oral solution (293.85%). Conclusion: Our study proves the improved efficacy of Levetiracetam as a surfactant-based nanovesicle intranasal gel in the brain targeting antiepileptic medication.
