Abstract: This paper reports measurements of two-pion Bose-Einstein (HBT) correlations in Be+Be collisions at a beam momentum of 150$A\,\mbox{GeV}/\textit{c}$ by the $\mbox{NA61/SHINE}$ experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator. The obtained momentum space correlation functions can be well described by a L\'evy distributed source model. The transverse mass dependence of the L\'evy source parameters is presented, and their possible theoretical interpretations are discussed. The results show that the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is approximately constant as a function of $m_{\rm{T}}$ , and far from both the Gaussian case of $\alpha = 2$ or the conjectured value at the critical endpoint, $\alpha = 0.5$. The radius scale parameter $R$ shows a slight decrease in $m_{\rm{T}}$, which can be explained as a signature of transverse flow. Finally, an approximately constant trend of the intercept parameter $\lambda$ as a function of $m_{\rm{T}}$ was observed, different from measurement results at RHIC.

Abstract: This paper presents multiplicity measurements of charged hadrons produced in 120 GeV/$c$ proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different data-taking periods, with increased phase space coverage in the second configuration due to the addition of new subdetectors. Particle identification via $dE/dx$ was employed to obtain double-differential production multiplicities of $π^+$, $π^-$, $p$, $\bar{p}$, $K^+$ and $K^-$. These measurements are presented as a function of laboratory momentum in intervals of laboratory polar angle covering the range from 0 to 450 mrad. They provide crucial inputs for current and future long-baseline neutrino experiments, where they are used to estimate the initial neutrino flux.

Abstract: The critical point of dense, strongly interacting matter is searched for at the CERN SPS in ${}^{40}$Ar + ${}^{45}$Sc collisions at 150A GeV/c. The dependence of second-order scaled factorial moments of proton multiplicity distribution on the number of subdivisions of transverse momentum space is measured. The intermittency analysis is performed using both transverse momentum and cumulative transverse momentum. For the first time, statistically independent data sets are used for each subdivision number. The obtained results do not indicate any statistically significant intermittency pattern. An upper limit on the fraction of critical proton pairs and the power of the correlation function is obtained based on a comparison with the Power-law Model developed for this purpose., Comment: 28 pages, 14 figures

Abstract: Contains fulltext : 229587.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) In Europe, lung cancer ranks third among the most common cancers, remaining the biggest killer. Since the publication of the first European Society of Radiology and European Respiratory Society joint white paper on lung cancer screening (LCS) in 2015, many new findings have been published and discussions have increased considerably. Thus, this updated expert opinion represents a narrative, non-systematic review of the evidence from LCS trials and description of the current practice of LCS as well as aspects that have not received adequate attention until now. Reaching out to the potential participants (persons at high risk), optimal communication and shared decision-making will be key starting points. Furthermore, standards for infrastructure, pathways and quality assurance are pivotal, including promoting tobacco cessation, benefits and harms, overdiagnosis, quality, minimum radiation exposure, definition of management of positive screen results and incidental findings linked to respective actions as well as cost-effectiveness. This requires a multidisciplinary team with experts from pulmonology and radiology as well as thoracic oncologists, thoracic surgeons, pathologists, family doctors, patient representatives and others. The ESR and ERS agree that Europe's health systems need to adapt to allow citizens to benefit from organised pathways, rather than unsupervised initiatives, to allow early diagnosis of lung cancer and reduce the mortality rate. Now is the time to set up and conduct demonstration programmes focusing, among other points, on methodology, standardisation, tobacco cessation, education on healthy lifestyle, cost-effectiveness and a central registry.Key Points* Pulmonologists and radiologists both have key roles in the set up of multidisciplinary LCS teams with experts from many other fields.* Pulmonologists identify people eligible for LCS, reach out to family doctors, share the decision-making process and promote tobacco cessation.* Radiologists ensure appropriate image quality, minimum dose and a standardised reading/reporting algorithm, together with a clear definition of a "positive screen".* Strict algorithms define the exact management of screen-detected nodules and incidental findings.* For LCS to be (cost-)effective, it has to target a population defined by risk prediction models.

Abstract: This paper presents multiplicity measurements of $K^0_{\textrm{S}}$, $Λ$, and $\barΛ$ produced in 120 GeV/$c$ proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different periods. Decays of these neutral hadrons impact the measured $π^+$, $π^-$, $p$ and $\bar{p}$ multiplicities in the 120 GeV/$c$ proton-carbon reaction, which are crucial inputs for long-baseline neutrino experiment predictions of neutrino beam flux. The double-differential multiplicities presented here will be used to more precisely measure charged-hadron multiplicities in this reaction, and to re-weight neutral hadron production in neutrino beam Monte Carlo simulations.

Abstract: Colloidal quantum dots are robust and flexible single photon emitters for room-temperature applications, but their purity is strongly reduced at high pump powers, due to multiexcitonic emission which cannot be easily filtered due to the photo-luminescence spectral broadening at room temperature. Giant-shell quantum dots feature a large blueshift of the biexciton spectrum due to electron-hole wave function engineering and piezoelectric charge separation, which can be exploited for spectral separation of the single exciton from the multiexciton emission. Here, by spectral filtering, we show that we can recover an excellent single-photon emission, with $g_2{(0)} < 0.05$ (resolution limited), even at high pump powers above saturation of the exciton emission. The bright and pure single-photon generation shown here has important applications in quantum information technology and random-number generation.

Abstract: The measurements of open charm production was proposed as an important tool to investigate the properties of hot and dense matter formed in nucleus-nucleus collisions as well as to provide the means for model independent interpretation of the existing data on $\text{J}/\psi$ suppression. Recently, the experimental setup of the NA61/SHINE experiment was supplemented with a Vertex Detector which was motivated by the importance and the possibility of the first direct measurements of open charm meson production in heavy ion collisions at SPS energies. First test data taken in December 2016 on Pb+Pb collisions at 150$A$ GeV/$c$ allowed to validate the general concept of D$^0$ meson detection via its D$^0 \to \pi^+ + K^-$ decay channel and delivered a first indication of open charm production. Abstract: Double-differential yields of $��\left(1530\right)^{0}$ and $\overline��\left(1530\right)^{0}$ resonances produced in \pp interactions were measured at a laboratory beam momentum of 158~\GeVc. This measurement is the first of its kind in \pp interactions below LHC energies. It was performed at the CERN SPS by the \NASixtyOne collaboration. Double-differential distributions in rapidity and transverse momentum were obtained from a sample of 26$\cdot$10$^6$ inelastic events. The spectra are extrapolated to full phase space resulting in mean multiplicity of $��\left(1530\right)^{0}$ (6.73 $\pm$ 0.25 $\pm$ 0.67)$\times10^{-4}$ and $\overline��\left(1530\right)^{0}$ (2.71 $\pm$ 0.18 $\pm$ 0.18)$\times10^{-4}$. The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra and mean multiplicities were compared to predictions of string-hadronic and statistical model calculations.

12. Basic ideas of microscopic physics of liquid helium-4 and $��$-transition to a coherent state

Abstract: The article formulates the basic principles of microscopic physics of a macroscopic ensemble of interacting helium-4 atoms. The concept of a vortex field is introduced, which is caused by the motion of the particles of the electron and nuclear subsystems of atoms of the macrosystem relative to each other. It is assumed that helium-4 atoms "immersed" in the internal vortex field acquire the properties of fermionic particles due to the atomic pseudospins s=1/2 generated by the vortex. On this basis, a heuristic evolutionary model of helium-4 as an ensemble of atom-like quasiparticles with fermionic properties is constructed. As the temperature decreases, bonds are formed between pseudofermionic quasiparticles by pairing their pseudospins. The formation of a hierarchy of composite quasiparticles on this basis leads to the transition of helium-4 atoms from the gas phase to the liquid state, then to the state of incoherent Bose condensate, and finally to the state with a long-range order of atom-like quasiparticles. The structural forms of composite quasiparticles in different phases, the mechanisms of their formation, and the temperatures of these phase transitions ($T_{cr}=5.22K$, $T_0=4.14K$ and $T_��=2.175K$, respectively) are determined. The ideas and calculations presented in this paper form the basis for solving the problem of the temperature dependence of the heat capacity of liquid helium-4 in both the helium-I and helium-II phases. The obtained solution has a logarithmic dependence of the heat capacity on the reduced temperature (${|1-{T/T_��}|}$) in the region of the $��$-point of the phase transition of helium-4 from a disordered to an ordered state. The numerical calculations of the heat capacity in the vicinity of the temperature $T_��$ are in very good agreement with the experimental data., The original article is written in Russian and translated into English by the author. Abstract: From superconductors to atomic nuclei, strongly-interacting many-body systems are ubiquitous in nature. Measuring the microscopic structure of such systems is a formidable challenge, often met by particle knockout scattering experiments. While such measurements are fundamental for mapping the structure of atomic nuclei, their interpretation is often challenged by quantum mechanical initial- and final-state interactions (ISI/FSI) of the incoming and scattered particles. Here we overcome this fundamental limitation by measuring the quasi-free scattering of 48 GeV/c 12C ions from hydrogen. The distribution of single protons is studied by detecting two protons at large angles in coincidence with an intact 11B nucleus. The 11B detection is shown to select the transparent part of the reaction and exclude the otherwise large ISI/FSI that would break the 11B apart. By further detecting residual 10B and 10Be nuclei, we also identified short-range correlated (SRC) nucleon-nucleon pairs, and provide direct experimental evidence for the separation of the pair wave-function from that of the residual many-body nuclear system. All measured reactions are well described by theoretical calculations that do not contain ISI/FSI distortions. Our results thus showcase a new ability to study the short-distance structure of short-lived radioactive atomic nuclei at the forthcoming FAIR and FRIB facilities. Abstract: The physics goal of the strong interaction program of the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is to study the phase diagram of hadronic matter by a scan of particle production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents differential inclusive spectra of transverse momentum, transverse mass and rapidity of $��^{-}$ mesons produced in $central$ ${}^{40}$Ar+${}^{45}$Sc collisions at beam momenta of 13$A$, 19$A$, 30$A$, 40$A$, 75$A$ and 150$A$ GeV/$c$. Energy and system size dependence of parameters of these distributions -- mean transverse mass, the inverse slope parameter of transverse mass spectra, width of the rapidity distribution and mean multiplicity -- are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the dependence of the ratio of the mean number of produced pions to the mean number of wounded nucleons on the collision energy was derived. Zwaska, Measurements of K∗ (892)0 resonance production via its K+ π − decay mode in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momenta 40 and 80 GeV/c ( √ sNN = 8.8 and 12.3 GeV) are presented. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The template methodwas used to extract the K∗ (892)0 signal. Transversemomentum and rapidity spectra were obtained. The mean multiplicities of K∗ (892)0 mesons were found to be (35.1 ± 1.3(stat) ± 3.6(sys)) · 10−3 at 40 GeV/c and (58.3±1.9(stat)±4.9(sys))·10−3 at 80 GeV/c. The NA61/SHINE results are compared with the Epos1.99 and Hadron Resonance Gas models as well as with world data. The transverse mass spectra of K∗ (892)0 mesons and other particles previously reported byNA61/SHINEwere fitted within the Blast-Wave model. The transverse flow velocities are close to 0.1–0.2 of the speed of light and are significantly smaller than the ones determined in heavy nucleusnucleus interactions at the same beam momenta.

16. Electrical control of single-photon emission in highly-charged individual colloidal quantum dots

Abstract: Electron transfer to an individual quantum dot promotes the formation of charged excitons with enhanced recombination pathways and reduced lifetimes. Excitons with only one or two extra charges have allowed for the development of very efficient quantum dot lasing [1] and the understanding of blinking dynamics [2], while charge transfer management has yielded single quantum dot LEDs [3], LEDs with reduced efficiency roll-off [4], and enabled studies of carrier and spin dynamics [5]. Here, by room-temperature time-resolved experiments on individual giant-shell CdSe/CdS quantum dots, we show the electrochemical formation of highly charged excitons containing more than twelve electrons and one hole. We report control of intensity blinking, as well as a deterministic manipulation of quantum dot photodynamics, with an observed 210-fold increase of the decay rate, accompanied by 12-fold decrease of the emission intensity, all while preserving single-photon emission characteristics. These results pave the way for deterministic control over the charge state, and room-temperature decay-rate engineering for colloidal quantum dot-based classical and quantum communication technologies.

Abstract: Pion induced reactions provide unique opportunities for an unambiguous description of baryonic resonances and their coupling channels by means of a partial wave analysis. Using the secondary pion beam at SIS18, the two pion production in the second resonance region has been investigated to unravel the role of the $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ resonance in the intermediate $��$ production. Results on exclusive channels with one pion ($��^{-}p$) and two pions ($��^{+}��^{-}n$, $��^{0}��^{-}p$) in the final state measured in the $��^{-}-p$ reaction at four different pion beam momenta (0.650, 0.685, 0.733, and 0.786 GeV/c) are presented. The excitation function of the different partial waves and $��$, $N��$ and $N��$ isobar configurations is obtained, using the Bonn-Gatchina partial wave analysis. The $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ resonance is found to dominate the $N��$ final state with the branching ratio $BR=12.2 \pm 1.9\%$.

18. Auger recombination in narrow band quantum well CdxHg1-xTe/CdyHg1-yTe heterostructures

Abstract: We present detailed theoretical and experimental studies of Auger recombination in narrow-gap mercury cadmium telluride quantum wells (HgCdTe QWs). We calculate the Auger recombination probabilities as functions of non-equilibrium carrier density, temperature and composition of quantum wells taking into account the complex band dispersions and wave functions of the structures. Our theory is validated by comparison with measured kinetics of photoconductivity relaxation in QW with band gap of 76 meV at a temperature of 77 K. We find good agreement of theory and experiment using a single fitting parameter: the initial density of non-equilibrium carriers. The model is further used to optimize the composition of QWs and find the most suitable conditions for far-infrared lasing. Particularly, for band gap of 40 meV (lasing wavelength {\lambda}=31 \mu m) the lasing is favored in QWs with 6.5% cadmium fraction. We also find that at very large non-equilibrium carrier densities, the main recombination channel is associated with emission of two-dimensional plasmons and not with Auger process, Comment: 12 pages and 9 figures

Abstract: The NA61/SHINE collaboration studies at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) the onset of deconfinement in hadronic matter by the measurement of particle production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents results on inclusive double-differential spectra and mean multiplicities of $��^{-}$ mesons produced in the 5\% most \textit{central} $^7$Be+$^9$Be collisions at beam momenta of 19$A$, 30$A$, 40$A$, 75$A$ and 150$A$ GeV/$c$ obtained by the so-called $h^-$ method which does not require any particle identification. The shape of the transverse mass spectra differs from the shapes measured in central Pb+Pb collisions and inelastic p+p interactions. The normalized width of the rapidity distribution decreases with increasing collision energy and is in between the results for inelastic nucleon-nucleon and central Pb+Pb collisions. The mean multiplicity of pions per wounded nucleon in \textit{central} $^7$Be+$^9$Be collisions is close to that in central Pb+Pb collisions up to 75$A$GeV/$c$. However, at the top SPS energy the result is close to the one for inelastic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The results are discussed in the context of predictions for the onset of deconfinement at the CERN SPS collision energies.

Abstract: Silicon PhotoMultipliers (SiPM) are an excellent choice for the scintillator light readout at hadron calorimeters due to their insensitivity to magnetic fields, low operating voltages, low cost, compactness and mechanical endurance. They are already successfully utilized in Projectile Spectator Detector (PSD) of NA61 at CERN, and will be utilized soon in PSD of CBM at FAIR and Forward Hadron CALorimeters (FHCAL) of BM@N at NICA heavy-ion collision experiments. The main issue of SiPM application is their degradation due to high neutron fluence that can reach up to 2E11 neq/cm2 per year of the experiment operation. Multiple irradiation tests of SiPMs produced by Ketek, Zecotek, Hamamatsu and Sensl manufacturers were conducted at the cyclotron of NPI Rez with a broad neutron spectrum and total fluences in the wide range of 5E10 - 6E12 neq/cm2. Detailed characterisation of all SiPMs was performed based on dependencies of dark current on voltage, capacitance on voltage and frequency, and response to LED light on voltage. SiPM's breakdown voltage, quenching resistance, pixel capacitance, gain and signal to noise ratio were extracted from these measurements. Those parameters' dependence on neutron fluence and their variability are discussed. Performance of the PSD calorimeter module equipped with irradiated SiPMs in CERN during the beam scan with 2 - 80 GeV/c protons is briefly overviewed., Comment: Prepared for submission to JINST

Abstract: Measurements of multiplicity fluctuations of identified hadrons produced in inelastic p+p interactions at 31, 40, 80, and 158~\GeVc beam momentum are presented. Three different measures of multiplicity fluctuations are used: the scaled variance $\omega$ and strongly intensive measures $\Sigma$ and $\Delta$. These fluctuation measures involve second and first moments of joint multiplicity distributions. Data analysis is performed using the Identity method which corrects for incomplete particle identification. Strongly intensive quantities are calculated in order to allow for a direct comparison to corresponding results on nucleus-nucleus collisions. The results for different hadron types are shown as a function of collision energy. A comparison with predictions of string-resonance Monte-Carlo models: Epos, Smash and Venus, is also presented., Comment: 32 pages, 14 figures

Abstract: The production of $��(1321)^{-}$ and $\overline��(1321)^{+}$ hyperons in inelastic p+p interactions is studied in a fixed target experiment at a beam momentum of 158 GeV/textit{c}. Double differential distributions in rapidity y and transverse momentum $p_{T}$ are obtained from a sample of 33M inelastic events. They allow to extrapolate the spectra to full phase space and to determine the mean multiplicity of both $��^{-}$ and $\overline��^{+}$. The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra are compared to transport model predictions. The $��^{-}$ mean multiplicity in inelastic p+p interactions at 158~\GeVc is used to quantify the strangeness enhancement in A+A collisions at the same centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair.

24. The effect of optical phonons on the quenching of photoluminescence of mercury vacancies in narrow-band solid solutions of CdHgTe with increasing temperature

Abstract: The capture times of holes to the ground level of the neutral mercury vacancy in a solid solution of Hg1-xCdxTe during the emission of an optical phonon are calculated. The calculation showed that this process can compete with the capture of holes into small excited states of vacancy centers with the emission of acoustic phonons. Such competition can lead to quenching of lines in the spectrum of vacancy photoluminescence of Hg1-xCdxTe layers with increasing temperature. 25. Peculiarities of transformation of metastable austenite into deformation martensite during laser cladding with cored wire 60Cr7TiAl

Abstract: Fe-Cr-C-T-Al flux-cored wire surfacing was performed by laser, arc and hybrid methods. Laboratory tests have shown that the deposited layers vary greatly in terms of wear resistance. To identify the reasons, studies were carried out using metallographic, X-ray structural and durometric methods. The analysis of the research results showed that the reason is the difference in the cooling rates of the deposited metal in the range of 1100-800 K. This difference leads to the possibility of the formation of a metastable austenitic structure, which, in turn, affects the wear resistance of the deposited layers. Abstract: In this work, we conduct research of spectral and power characteristics of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) based on a GaAs/Al0.15Ga0.85As active region emitting at 2.3 (A), 3.2 (B) and 4.1 (C) THz. The QCL devices had a double-metal Au waveguide and operated in pulsed mode with 1.5-9 μs pulses at 20 Hz repetition rate. Using the integral output power curves measured with different pulse durations, we consider the potential mechanisms of QCL temperature degradation using Arrhenius plots. Moreover, we present the spectra of the lasers measured at fixed operating points for devices A, C and with current scanning for device B in a wide temperature range from 5 to 120 K. We hope that our results will prove useful for research concerning QCL maximum operating temperatures. Abstract: In recent years, narrow gap heterostructures with Hg1-xCdxTe/CdyHg1-yTe quantum wells have been actively studied both in connection with the topic of topological insulators and from the point of view of their application in optoelectronics in the terahertz domain. In this work, we study the photoconductivity and photoluminescence spectra of structure with a band gap of 40 meV. In addition to interband transitions, the features of the spectra associated with the resonance states of acceptors have been identified. The possibilities of using the structures under study to develop interband emitters at a wavelength of ~30 μm, which is inaccessible to existing quantum-cascade lasers, are discussed. Abstract: We have demonstrated a quantum cascade laser (QCL) with a generation frequency of about 3.8 THz, grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy. The multilayer heterostructure for QCLs consists of 185 repetitions of an active module containing four GaAs/Al0.15Ga0.85As quantum wells. The threshold current and threshold voltage of the fabricated QCL were 2.25 kA/cm2 and 19.7 V, respectively. The QCL oscillations were carried out in the multimode regime, and the detection of terahertz radiation continued with an increase in the laser temperature up to 60 K. Abstract: The disorder effect on superconducting properties of thin-film YBCO nanostructures in external magnetic fields is experimentally studied. The disorder was produced by irradiation with xenon ions. The research included transport measurements of narrow bridges based on HTSC YBCO films (thickness 50 nm) in strong magnetic fields (up to 12 T). Thus, for samples with different degrees of disorder, critical dependences have been studied, i.e. the Hc2(T) phase-transition line, the Hirr(T) irreversibility line, etc. The dependences of the mean-free path and critical temperature on the concentration of defects created by ion irradiation have been experimentally studied. The experimental data are described using formulas obtained within the framework of well-known models, such as the Ginzburg-Landau theory, the Drude theory, and the Gorkov equations. 30. Temperature dependence of the Fermi level in HgCdTe narrow-gap bulk films at different mercury vacancy concentrations

Abstract: We calculate Fermi level position in bulk HgCdTe with cadmium fraction from 19 to 22% as a function of temperature for different concentrations of mercury vacancies forming double-charged acceptors with ionization energies of 11 and 21 meV for neutral and singly charged states respectively. The concentration of free carriers in the bands at different temperatures and the proportion of acceptor centres in different charge states are calculated as well. The results explain the fast temperature quenching of photoconductivity involving the vacancies states. It is also shown that in a p-type material conductivity dependence on temperature includes an exponential growth region with a characteristic energy much greater than a half of the bandgap at zero temperature expected for an intrinsic semiconductor. Abstract: Results on $��$ meson production in inelastic p+p collisions at CERN SPS energies are presented. They are derived from data collected by the NA61/SHINE fixed target experiment, by means of invariant mass spectra fits in the $��\to K^+K^-$ decay channel. They include the first ever measured double differential spectra of $��$ mesons as a function of rapidity $y$ and transverse momentum $p_T$ for proton beam momenta of 80 GeV/c and 158 GeV/c, as well as single differential spectra of $y$ or $p_T$ for beam momentum of 40 GeV/c. The corresponding total $��$ yields per inelastic p+p event are obtained. These results are compared with existing data on $��$ meson production in p+p collisions. The comparison shows consistency but superior accuracy of the present measurements. The emission of $��$ mesons in p+p reactions is confronted with that occurring in Pb+Pb collisions, and the experimental results are compared with model predictions. It appears that none of the considered models can properly describe all the experimental observables.

Abstract: When two-dimensional atomic crystals are brought into close proximity to form a van der Waals heterostructure, neighbouring crystals can start influencing each others electronic properties. Of particular interest is the situation when the periodicity of the two crystals closely match and a moir�� pattern forms, which results in specific electron scattering, reconstruction of electronic and excitonic spectra, crystal reconstruction, and many other effects. Thus, formation of moir�� patterns is a viable tool of controlling the electronic properties of 2D materials. At the same time, the difference in the interatomic distances for the two crystals combined, determines the range in which the electronic spectrum is reconstructed, and thus is a barrier to the low energy regime. Here we present a way which allows spectrum reconstruction at all energies. By using graphene which is aligned simultaneously to two hexagonal boron nitride layers, one can make electrons scatter in the differential moir�� pattern, which can have arbitrarily small wavevector and, thus results in spectrum reconstruction at arbitrarily low energies. We demonstrate that the strength of such a potential relies crucially on the atomic reconstruction of graphene within the differential moir�� super-cell. Abstract: Precise knowledge of hadron production rates in the generation of neutrino beams is necessary for accelerator-based neutrino experiments to achieve their physics goals. NA61/SHINE, a large-acceptance hadron spectrometer, has recorded hadron+nucleus interactions relevant to ongoing and future long-baseline neutrino experiments at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. This paper presents three analyses of interactions of 60 GeV/$c$ $��^+$ with thin, fixed carbon and beryllium targets. Integrated production and inelastic cross sections were measured for both of these reactions. In an analysis of strange, neutral hadron production, differential production multiplicities of $K^0_{S}$, $��$ and anti-$��$ were measured. Lastly, in an analysis of charged hadron production, differential production multiplicities of $��^+$, $��^-$, $K^+$, $K^-$ and protons were measured. These measurements will enable long-baseline neutrino experiments to better constrain predictions of their neutrino flux in order to achieve better precision on their neutrino cross section and oscillation measurements.

Abstract: This study proposes an automatic technique for liver segmentation in computed tomography (CT) images. Localization of the liver volume is based on the correlation with an optimized set of liver templates developed by the authors that allows clear geometric interpretation. Radiodensity values are calculated based on the boundaries of the segmented liver, which allows identifying liver abnormalities. The performance of the technique was evaluated on 700 CT images from dataset of the Unified Radiological Information System (URIS) of Moscow. Despite the decrease in accuracy, the technique is applicable to CT volumes with a partially visible region of the liver. The technique can be used to process CT images obtained in various patient positions in a wide range of exposition parameters. It is capable in dealing with low dose CT scans in real large-scale medical database with over 1 million of studies., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures

Abstract: We present first data on sub-threshold production of K0 s mesons and �� hyperons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.4 GeV. We observe an universal scaling of hadrons containing strangeness, independent of their corresponding production thresholds. Comparing the yields, their scaling, and the shapes of the rapidity and the pt spectra to state-of-the-art transport model (UrQMD, HSD, IQMD) predictions, we find that none of the latter can simultaneously describe all observables with reasonable \c{hi}2 values., 8 pages, 10 figures

Abstract: Measurements of the $��^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, and proton double differential yields emitted from the surface of the 90-cm-long carbon target (T2K replica) were performed for the incoming 31 GeV/c protons with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS using data collected during 2010 run. The double differential $��^{\pm}$ yields were measured with increased precision compared to the previously published NA61/SHINE results, while the $K^{\pm}$ and proton yields were obtained for the first time. A strategy for dealing with the dependence of the results on the incoming proton beam profile is proposed. The purpose of these measurements is to reduce significantly the (anti)neutrino flux uncertainty in the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment by constraining the production of (anti)neutrino ancestors coming from the T2K target., 43 pages, 55 figures

Abstract: This paper presents several measurements of total production cross sections and total inelastic cross sections for the following reactions: $��^{+}$+C, $��^{+}$+Al, $K^{+}$+C, $K^{+}$+Al at 60 GeV/c, $��^{+}$+C and $��^{+}$+Al at 31 GeV/c . Abstract: We calculate the characteristics of interband HgTe-CdHgTe quantum-well infrared photodetectors (QWIPs). Due to a small probability of the electron capture into the QWs, the interband HgTe-CdHgTe QWIPs can exhibit very high photoconductive gain. Abstract: Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a large band gap layered crystal, frequently incorporated in van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures as an insulating or tunnel barrier. Localised states with energies within its band gap can emit visible light, relevant to applications in nanophotonics and quantum information processing. However, they also give rise to conducting channels, which can induce electrical breakdown when a large voltage is applied. Here we use gated tunnel transistors to study resonant electron tunnelling through the localised states in few atomic-layer hBN barriers sandwiched between two monolayer graphene electrodes. The measurements are used to determine the energy, linewidth, tunnelling transmission probability, and depth within the barrier of more than 50 distinct localised states. Abstract: Measurements of inclusive spectra and mean multiplicities of $��^\pm$, K$^\pm$, p and $\bar{\textrm{p}}$ produced in inelastic p+p interactions at incident projectile momenta of 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 GeV/c ($\sqrt{s} = $ 6.3, 7.7, 8.8, 12.3 and 17.3 GeV, respectively) were performed at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer. Spectra are presented as function of rapidity and transverse momentum and are compared to predictions of current models. The measurements serve as the baseline in the NA61/SHINE study of the properties of the onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter.

Abstract: We report on the investigation of Δ(1232) production and decay in proton-proton collisions at a kinetic energy of 1.25 GeV measured with HADES. Exclusive dilepton decay channels ppe+e- and ppe+e-γ have been studied and compared with the partial-wave analysis of the hadronic ppπ0 channel. They allow to access both Δ+→pπ0(e+e-γ) and Δ+→pe+e- Dalitz decay channels. The perfect reconstruction of the well-known π0 Dalitz decay serves as a proof of the consistency of the analysis. The Δ Dalitz decay is identified for the first time and the sensitivity to N-Δ transition form factors is tested. The Δ(1232) Dalitz decay branching ratio is also determined for the first time our result is (4.19 ± 0.62 syst. ± 0.34 stat.) ×10-5, albeit with some model dependence. © 2017 American Physical Society. 95 6

Abstract: We present measurements of $��^0$, $��$ and K$^{*0}$ spectra in $��^{-} + $C production interactions at 158 GeV/c and $��^0$ spectra at 350 GeV/c using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Spectra are presented as a function of the Feynman's variable $x_\text{F}$ in the range $0 < x_\text{F} < 1$ and $0 < x_\text{F} < 0.5$ for 158 GeV/c and 350 GeV/c respectively. Furthermore, we show comparisons with previous measurements and predictions of several hadronic interaction models. These measurements are essential for a better understanding of hadronic shower development and for improving the modeling of cosmic ray air showers., submitted to Eur. Phys. J. C

Abstract: We present data on charged kaons (K+-) and �� mesons in Au(1.23A GeV)+Au collisions. It is the first simultaneous measurement of K and �� mesons in central heavy-ion collisions below a kinetic beam energy of 10A GeV. The ��/K- multiplicity ratio is found to be surprisingly high with a value of 0.52 +- 0.16 and shows no dependence on the centrality of the collision. Consequently, the different slopes of the K+ and K- transverse-mass spectra can be explained solely by feed- down, which substantially softens the spectra of K- mesons. Hence, in contrast to the commonly adapted argumentation in literature, the different slopes do not necessarily imply diverging freeze- out temperatures of K+ and K- mesons caused by different couplings to baryons., Corrected and updated version, 28 November 2017
