The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution on early complications of rhinoplasty. Volunteers who had physical status of ASA I were included in the study after informed written consent. This was a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Standard open rhinoplasty technique was performed for all patients. All patients underwent the same general anesthesia and post-operative analgesic protocol and the only difference between the two studied groups was the use of hydrogen peroxide for irrigation at the end of surgery. Finally, patients were examined for edema, inflammation, ecchymosis, and infections during 8 weeks after surgery. 50 volunteers (43 female and 7 male) with the mean age of 27.84 ± 7.64 were included in this study. Edema scores were constantly lower in the intervention group (p 0.001), so was the median inflammation score (p 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in ecchymosis between the two groups (p 0.05). No cases of post-operative infection were reported in any of the study groups. Background: This study was conducted to investigate the association between decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index and nutritional status based on Healthy Eating Index (HEI), in Iranian adults.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, data from the Ravansar Non-Communicable Diseases (RaNCD) cohort study were analyzed. DMFT index was employed as a measurement of oral health. The HEI-2015 score was calculated based on data obtained from Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and categorized into quartiles to best separate those with better quality diets (Q4), mixed quality diets (Q2-Q3), and poor quality diets (Q1). Linear regression models were used to assess the association between HEI-2015 and DMFT.Results: 7,549 participants with the mean age of 45.65 ± 7.70, 3741 of which were female (49.56%), were evaluated. The mean of DMFT in Q4 of HEI-2015 was significantly lower than the Q1 (12.64± 7.04 vs. 14.29± 7.54, PConclusions: A healthy diet was significantly associated with a decrease in DMFT score in the studied population.

Introduction Halitosis as a common dental problem results in psychological social problems and relates to many factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of halitosis and its associated factors among students aged from 14 to 18 years in Kermanshah in 2015. Materials and methods The study was conducted in high school students of Kermanshah city in 2015. The questionnaire including questions about bad breath and other associated factors (demographic information, background diseases, oral and dental problems, decay-missing-filled (DMF) index, etc.) was completed by students or determined by the examiner. Organoleptic evaluation was conducted. Prevalence of organoleptic and self-reported halitosis and related factors was reported. The relationship between malodor and variables was evaluated and the most important factor was determined by multiple logistic regression analysis. The diagnostic agreement between self-perception and organoleptic halitosis was assessed using Kappa coefficient as well. Results The prevalence of halitosis in the organoleptic evaluation was 29.75% and higher in boys (32.6% male vs. 25.2% female) and 27.47% in self-perception (32.9% male vs. 19% female). The diagnostic agreement between organoleptic and self-perception halitosis was moderate or poor. This study assessed the effect of implant-abutment connection type on stress distribution in peri-implant bone and abutment micromovement using finite-element analysis (FEA). Dimensions of three implant-abutment designs were measured by a three-dimensional scanner and transferred to SOLIDWORKS. An elemental model was designed using ABAQUS. Each implant was placed in bone at the crestal level. A 100-N load was applied at a 45° angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the implant in the buccolingual direction from the palatal toward the buccal and coronal parts of the abutment. Shear stress, von Mises stress, and micromovement of the abutment relative to the fixture were analyzed. Data were reported qualitatively and quantitatively using ABAQUS. The von Mises stress in all three samples decreased from the crest toward the apical area and was distributed homogenously. Maximum stress concentration was at the most coronal part of the implant body in the midbuccal area. In cancellous and cortical bone, stress decreased from the crest toward the palate and was at its maximum at the midbuccal point in the bone crest. Stress in cortical bone was more homogenous and in cancellous bone was higher. Shear stress was higher in the buccal than in the palatal area, and at its maximum shear stress and equal in the mesiobuccal and distobuccal areas. Micromovement was 4.25 μm in an Astra implant, 5.42 μm in a Intra-Lock implant, and 6.63 μm in an SPI implant. The distribution of von Mises and shear stress was the same in bone around the three implant connection types; however, abutment micomovement differed.

Evidence Acquisition: A web-based search in PubMed and Google Scholar was performed to identify publications regarding the effects of smoking on various aspects of the periodontal disease process and to find an explanation for the possible association between smoking and the progression of periodontitis. We evaluated the articles published in English language between 1990 and 2013 with the search terms ‘‘periodontal health and smoking’’, ‘‘periodontal treatment and smoking’’, and ‘‘tobacco smokers and oral hygiene’’. Results: Of the total yield of 145 identified publications, 72 were selected for this literature review. The results of the selected papers reflect the effect of smoking on oral hygiene, gingival inflammation and vasculature, gingival crevicular fluid, subgingival microflora in periodontitis, fibroblast function, genetic polymorphism, initiation and progression of periodontal disease and its effect on passive smokers, and host response to periodontal treatment. Conclusions: Smoking is a significant risk factor for impaired periodontal health and treatment.
