Dioscorea pubescens Poir. (Dioscoreaceae) was not explicitly typified when described it in 1813, and Poiret never mentions the J. Martin s.n. collections filed in FI and P citing only "V.f. in herb. Desfont." So it is necessary to lectotypify herein. By priority, Dioscorea pubescens is the earliest published name to use, although D. pilosiuscula Bertero ex Spreng., has been a name traditionally used since its description in 1825. Dioscorea pubescens is very variable, principally in its pubescence and in the form and size of leaves throughout its distribution range, and this variability has been the reason for the taxon's description under different names, 7 of which are synonymized herein. Also according to new suggestions and changes in the International Code of Botanic Nomenclature, all of the taxa included in here should be lectotypified.

This work is the continuation of Part 1, published in 2015, and comprises the reconstruction of the original collections of new taxa described by R. Pampanini and other botanists and, where possible, typification of the new names and taxonomical updating. The material studied for the most part concerns Libyan specimens held in the FI and FI-W herbaria but in some case also K, LD, MPU, P, PAD, PAL, ULT. Other material, which Pampanini studied in Florence was subsequently conserved in other herbaria. Specimens belonging to 21 families have been examined, from the Najadaceae to Zygophyllaceae. As well as typification, bibliographical data have been provided for those already typified. In this second part, a total of 113 names have been indexed and 91 typified, taking the names validly published in the entire work to 353, of which 286 are typified. Also on this occasion, we have provided taxonomic updates for each taxon. The Conclusions present a synthetic sum of the taxa still recognised taxonomically (entirely, in new combinations, or with a new status) in recent works on the Flora of N. Africa, in general revisions of various systematic groups, or reconsidered by the authors of this present work. We have also investigated the phyto-geographic origins of the taxa [according to the dominions proposed by Quézel (1978) for N. Africa]. Finally we have very briefly indicated the presence of material of the R. Pampanini collections (for Cyrenaica, together with R. E. G. Pichi Sermolli in 1934) in the most important herbaria. The paragraph "Addenda et Corrigenda" has been added to the final part of the treatise and relates chiefly to taxa omitted from the first part, either on account of new information or as a result of errors which came to light after publication.

Herbaria may represent remarkable sources of viable diaspores for recovering lost genetic variation and extinct plant species, but the application of rewilding extinct species using these collections has not been explored in detail. De-extinction in plants may be achieved by germinating viable diaspores or culturing tissues preserved in herbarium specimens. Germination of old diaspores (fruits, seeds, spores) preserved in sub-optimal uncontrolled storage conditions demonstrates that the recovery of extinct plants from herbarium specimens may be possible. Plant de-extinction via herbarium specimens relies on the availability of samples containing viable diaspores, and on the inclination of curators and the conservation community to use such material for this purpose. We developed an internet-based survey to assess (i) whether the scientific community would consent to the use of herbarium specimens of extinct species to attempt de-extinction, and (ii) the limitations of removing diaspores from specimens. Despite the risk of potential damages to valuable specimens from historical collections when harvesting diaspores, a consensus for using specimens of extinct plant species emerged. Most respondents would permit the collection of a low number of diaspores, preferably from duplicate specimens and only if the integrity of the specimen is preserved. These considerations would be more restrictive for type specimens and those of historical value. These results help to formalise a decision framework for the grant and use of material from natural history collections and a pragmatic approach to attempt to resurrect extinct species from herbarium specimens.

In this contribution, new data concerning the Italian distribution of alien vascular flora are presented. It includes new records, exclusions, confirmations, and status changes for Italy or for Italian administrative regions for taxa in the genera Acer, Amaranthus, Araujia, Aubrieta, Avena, Bidens, Calycanthus, Celtis, Elaeagnus, Eragrostis, Euonymus, Fallopia, Ficus, Hedera, Lantana, Ligustrum, Ludwigia, Morus, Oenothera, Opuntia, Oxalis, Parkinsonia, Paspalum, Paulownia, Platycladus, Pleuropterus, Rumex, Salvia, Senecio, Setaria, Syagrus, Tradescantia, Trifolium and Yucca. Furthermore, a new combination in the genus Vicia is proposed.
