The local and global buckling capacity of the thin-walled box-section members formed by cold bending of ten BS700 high-strength steel (HSS) specimens are experimentally determined through an axial compression test. The mechanical properties of the materials are evaluated through material performance test, and a material model suitable for finite element analysis is proposed. The initial geometric imperfection of the members is measured, and it is found that the maximum initial deflection can be 1/1000 of the length of the members, as specified in the Chinese code. Based on the test, the ultimate bearing capacity and failure modes of the component with local and global interactive buckling are obtained. Further, a finite element model is established, and the corresponding results are compared with the test results. Furthermore, the test results are compared with those obtained using the existing specifications. The results show that the failure modes of the specimens are primarily local and global buckling failure. The influence of residual stress and initial geometric imperfection is considered in the proposed finite element model. Comparing the ultimate bearing capacity and load-displacement curves with the corresponding test results, it is found that the finite element model can effectively reproduce the test results. By comparing the test results with those obtained based on the steel structure design codes of China, the United States, and Europe, it is found that the test results are all higher than the existing code results, and the Chinese and European codes are relatively conservative with a difference of more than 20%, while the difference between the test results and the American code results is nearly 10%. Therefore, it is necessary to further improve the calculation methods of local and global buckling capacity of thin-walled box-section members of BS700 HSS under axial compression.

BackgroundBlood–brain barrier (BBB) damage is considered an important part of Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression, and cerebral small-vessel disease (CSVD) is commonly associated with AD. However, the relationship between BBB damage, small cerebrovascular lesions, especially cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), and amyloid and tau biomarkers remains controversial. Therefore, our study aimed to further investigate their association in our cohort of patients with AD.MethodsA total of 139 individuals were divided into probable AD (18F-florbetapir PET positive, n = 101) and control group (cognitively normal, n = 38). The levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma t-tau, p-tau181, Aβ40, Aβ42, and albumin were measured using corresponding commercial assay kits, and the CSF/plasma albumin ratio (Qalb), an indicator of BBB dysfunction, was calculated. CSVD burden and the number of CMBs were defined using magnetic resonance imaging.ResultsPatients with AD had higher Qalb (p = 0.0024), higher numbers of CMBs (p = 0.03), and greater CSVD burden (p < 0.0001). In the AD group, CMBs and CSVD correlated with a higher Qalb (p = 0.03), and the numbers of CMBs negatively correlated with CSF Aβ42 (p = 0.02).ConclusionBlood–brain barrier damage was accompanied by a more severe burden of CSVD, including CMB, in patients with AD.

Timely and effective yaw moment intervention is required to suppress the instability tendency of vehicle under critical conditions, which is mainly caused by the overshoot of state parameters. As the development of vehicle nonlinear dynamics, the prediction of vehicle critical condition enables the vehicle to stabilize in this condition by timely yaw moment intervention. The yaw moment intervention law based on the prediction of critical conditions cannot be solely investigated by the initial motion states, since the online iterative optimization is an indispensable part in the predictive control. In this paper, the combination of threshold model, quadratic optimal yaw moment prediction method and Monte Carlo simulation provides a new approach to investigate the optimal open loop yaw moment intervention law based on initial motion states, which can be used to maintain the stability of vehicle plane motion in critical situations and optimize the predictive control method. Specifically, a total of 480,000 samples of quadratic yaw moment intervention parameters and corresponding system responses are obtained and analysed. It is certified that the optimized quadratic yaw moment can effectively suppress the overshoot of system responses. Specifically, statistics indicate that the initial value of yaw moment intervention plays an important role in preventing instability, but with the increase of speed and steering angle, the final yaw moment will be the decisive factor to maintain the lateral stability.

Anxiety disorder has a high prevalence, and the risk of anxiety increases with age. Prenatal inflammation during key developmental timepoints can result in long-term changes in anxiety phenotype, even over a lifetime and across generations. However, whether maternal inflammation exposure during late gestation has intergenerational transmission effects on age-related anxiety-like behaviors and the possible underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. Fatty acid binding protein 7 (FABP7) is critical in hippocampal neurogenesis and is closely related to neuropsychiatric diseases, including anxiety disorder. The current study investigated the effects of maternal (F0 generation) lipopolysaccharide administration (50 μg/kg, i.p.) during late gestation on anxiety-like behaviors and FABP7 expression in F1 and F2 offspring, as well as the potential sex-specificity of intergenerational effects. Anxiety-like behaviors were evaluated using open field (OF), elevated plus maze, and black–white alley (BWA) tests at 3 and 13 months of age. The protein and messenger RNA levels of FABP7 in the hippocampus were measured using Western blot and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR), respectively. Overall, gestational LPS exposure in the F0 generation increased anxiety levels and decreased FABP7 expression levels in the F1 generation, which carried over to the F2 generation, and the intergenerational effects were mainly transferred via the maternal lineage. Moreover, hippocampal FABP7 expression was significantly correlated with performance in the battery of anxiety tests. The present study suggested that prenatal inflammation could increase age-related anxiety-like behaviors both in F1 and F2 offspring, and these effects possibly link to the FABP7 expression.

Background: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) has been reported as a serious adverse effect in patients treated with vancomycin or linezolid, and there is currently a lack of real-world studies comparing specific differences in adverse effects of SJS.Methods: According to the FDA’s Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), from January 2004 to July 2021, the data of suspected SJS after the use of vancomycin and linezolid were analyzed by imbalance and Bayesian analysis. The onset time, fatality rate and hospitalization rate of vancomycin-associated SJS and linezolid-associated SJS were also investigated.Results: 276 cases of vancomycin-related SJS reports and 63 cases of linezolid-related SJS reports were identified. These two drugs are more common in middle-aged patients (45–64 years) than other age groups, and less common in underage children (p < 0.0001). There were no significant differences in mortality and hospitalization rates after vancomycin and linezolid caused SJS.Conclusion: The analysis of faers data provides a comprehensive overview of the adverse reactions of SJS caused by the use of vancomycin and linezolid, and can warn clinical workers to timely intervene and continuously monitor the patients at risk of SJS when using such drugs.

BackgroundAlthough studies suggest that concentrations of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) are lower in individuals with Heart Failure (HF), the beneficial effects of vitamin D supplementation are controversial. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to determine whether there is a causal relationship between serum Vitamin D (VD) levels and HF.MethodsWe obtained genetic instruments from the largest available genome-wide association study (GWAS) of European descent for 25(OH)D (443, 734 individuals) to investigate the association with HF (47,309 cases, 930,014 controls), and vice versa. Two-sample bidirectional Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis was performed to infer the causality. In addition to the primary analysis using inverse variance-weighted (IVW) MR, we applied five additional methods to control for pleiotropy [MR-Egger, weighted median, Maximum-likelihood, MR-robust adjusted profile score (MR-RAPS) and MR-pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO)] and compared their respective MR estimates. We also performed a sensitivity analysis to ensure that our results were robust.ResultsMendelian randomized analysis showed that increased serum 25(OH)D was associated with a lower risk of HF in the IVW method (odds ratio [OR] = 0. 81;95%CI, 0.70–0.94, P = 0.006). In the reverse MR analyses, the genetic predisposition to HF was negatively correlated with serum 25(OH)D level (OR = 0. 89;95%CI, (0.82–0.97), P = 0.009).ConclusionOur study revealed the possible causal role of 25(OH)D on decreasing the risk for HF. Meanwhile, reverse MR analysis suggested that HF may be associated with lower vitamin D levels, it could be the potential implications for dietary recommendations.

Background Many serologic markers are routinely tested prior to joint arthroplasty, but only few are commonly used to guide surgeons in determining patients most at risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The objective of this study was to investigate the association between preoperative bilirubin level and PJI after primary hip and knee arthroplasty. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on patients undergoing revision hip and knee arthroplasty at our hospital from January 2016 to December 2019. Laboratory biomarkers were collected before the primary arthroplasty, as well as general patient information. The association between the above serologic markers and postoperative PJI was analyzed. Results A total of 72 patients (30 hips/42 knees) were analyzed, including 39 patients with PJI and 33 patients without PJI. Except for total bilirubin (TB) and direct bilirubin (DB), there was no significant difference between the remaining laboratory biomarkers. The preoperative TB and DB in the PJI group were 10.84 ± 0.61 μmol/L and 3.07 ± 0.19 μmol/L, respectively, which were lower than those in the non-PJI group (14.68 ± 0.75 μmol/L and 4.70 ± 0.39 μmol/L, P P P Conclusions The serum levels of TB and DB before the primary arthroplasty were lower in PJI patients than in non-PJI patients, and the preoperative values lower than 11.55 μmol/L and 4.00 μmol/L could be considered as a risk factor for postoperative PJI.

Background and aimsLiver ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) remains an unresolved clinical problem. This study dissected roles of liver-resident macrophage Kupffer cells (KCs), with a functional focus on efferocytosis receptor T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-containing protein-4 (TIM-4), in both the activation and resolution of IRI in a murine liver partial warm ischemia model.Approach and resultsFluorescence-activated cell sorting results showed that TIM-4 was expressed exclusively by KCs, but not infiltrating macrophages (iMФs), in IR livers. Anti-TIM-4 antibody depleted TIM-4+ macrophages in vivo, resulting in either alleviation or deterioration of liver IRI, which was determined by the repopulation kinetics of the KC niche with CD11b+ macrophages. To determine the KC-specific function of TIM-4, we reconstituted clodronate-liposome-treated mice with exogenous wild-type or TIM-4-deficient KCs at either 0hour or 24hours postreperfusion. TIM-4 deficiency in KCs resulted in not only increases in the severity of liver IRI (at 6hours postreperfusion), but also impairment of the inflammation resolution (at 7days postreperfusion). In vitro analysis revealed that TIM-4 promoted KC efferocytosis to regulate their Toll-like receptor response by up-regulating IL-10 and down-regulating TNF-α productions.ConclusionsTIM-4 is critical for KC homeostatic function in both the activation and resolution of liver IRI by efferocytosis.

We study a system of two singularly perturbed first-order equations on an interval. The equations have discontinuous right-hand sides and equal powers of the small parameter multiplying the derivatives. We consider a new class of problems with discontinuous right-hand side, prove the existence of a solution with an internal transition layer, and construct its asymptotic approximation of arbitrary order. The asymptotic approximations are constructed by the Vasil’eva method, and the existence theorems are proved by the matching method.

Background The leucocyte esterase (LE) strip test often is used to diagnose periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). In accordance with the manufacturer's directions, the LE strip test result is read 3 minutes after exposing it to joint fluid, but this has not been supported by robust research. Moreover, we have noted that the results of the LE strip test might change over time, and our previous studies have found that centrifugation causes the results of the LE strip test to degrade. Still, there is no evidence-based recommendation as to when to read the LE strip test to maximize diagnostic accuracy, in general, and the best reading times for the LE strip test before and after centrifugation need to be determined separately, in particular. Questions/purposes (1) What is the optimal timing for reading LE strip test results before centrifugation to diagnose PJI? (2) What is the optimal timing for reading LE strip test results after centrifugation to diagnose PJI? Methods This study was a prospective diagnostic trial. In all, 120 patients who were scheduled for revision arthroplasty and had signs of infection underwent joint aspiration in the outpatient operating room between July 2018 and July 2019 and were enrolled in this single-center study. For inclusion, patients must have had a diagnosis of PJI or nonPJI, valid synovial fluid samples, and must not have received antibiotics within 2 weeks before arthrocentesis. As such, 36 patients were excluded; 84 patients were included for analysis, and all 84 patients agreed to participate. The 2018 International Consensus Meeting Criteria (ICM 2018) was used for the classification of 49 patients with PJI (score ≥ 6) and 35 without PJI (score ≤ 2). The classification was used as the standard against which the different timings for reading LE strips were compared. All patients without PJI were followed for more than 1 year, during which they did not report the occurrence of PJI. All patients were graded against the diagnostic criteria regardless of their LE strip test results. In 83 patients, one drop of synovial fluid (50 μL) was applied to LE strips before and after centrifugation, and in one patient (without PJI), the sample was not centrifuged because the sample volume was less than 1.5 mL. The results of the strip test were read on an automated colorimeter. Starting from 1 minute after centrifugation, these strips were automatically read once every minute, 15 times (over a period of 16 minutes), and the results were independently recorded by two observers. Results were rated as negative, ±, 1+, and 2+ upon the machine reading. Grade 2+ (dark purple) was used as the threshold for a positive result. An investigator who was blinded to the study performed the statistics. Optimal timing for reading the LE strip before and after centrifugation was determined by using receiver operative characteristic (ROC) analysis. The specificity, sensitivity, and positive predictive and negative predictive values were calculated for key timepoints. Results Before centrifugation, the area under the curve was the highest when the results were read at 5 minutes (0.90 [95% CI 0.83 to 0.98]; sensitivity 0.88 [95% CI 0.75 to 0.95]; specificity 0.89 [95% CI 0.72 to 0.96]). After centrifugation, the area under the curve was the highest when the results were read at 10 minutes (0.92 [95% CI 0.86 to 0.98]; sensitivity 0.65 [95% CI 0.50 to 0.78]; specificity 0.97 [95% CI 0.83 to 1.00]). Conclusion The LE strip test results are affected by time and centrifugation. For samples without centrifugation, we found that 5 minutes after application was the best time to read LE strips. We cannot deny the use of centrifuges because this is an effective way to solve the sample-mingling problem at present. We recommend 10 minutes postapplication as the most appropriate time to read LE strips after centrifugation. Multicenter and large-sample size studies are warranted to further verify our conclusion. Glycogen synthase kinase 3 (Gsk3) α and β are both constitutively active and inhibited upon stimulation by N-terminal serine phosphorylation. Although roles of active Gsk3 in liver ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) have been well appreciated, whether Gsk3 N-terminal serine phosphorylation has any functional significance in the disease process remains unclear. In a murine liver partial warm ischemia model, we studied Gsk3 N-terminal serine mutant knock-in (KI) mice and showed that liver IRI was decreased in Gsk3αS21A but increased in Gsk3βS9A mutant KI mice. Bone marrow chimeric experiments revealed that the Gsk3α, but not β, mutation in liver parenchyma protected from IRI, and both mutations in bone marrow-derived cells exacerbated liver injuries. Mechanistically, mutant Gsk3α protected hepatocytes from inflammatory (TNF-α) cell death by the activation of HIV-1 TAT-interactive protein 60 (TIP60)-mediated autophagy pathway. The pharmacological inhibition of TIP60 or autophagy diminished the protection of the Gsk3α mutant hepatocytes from inflammatory cell death in vitro and the Gsk3α mutant KI mice from liver IRI in vivo. Thus, Gsk3 N-terminal serine phosphorylation inhibits liver innate immune activation but suppresses hepatocyte autophagy in response to inflammation. Gsk3 αS21, but not βS9, mutation is sufficient to sustain Gsk4 activities in hepatocytes and protect livers from IRI via TIP60 activation.

Due to the increase of power transmission capacity, once an active power vacancy happens, power systems will face a serious frequency instability problem. With the development of communication technology in cyber physical power system (CPPS), demand response (DR) resources can take the initiative to reduce electricity utilization in order to tackle the system under-frequency challenge. This paper presented a frequency control model for CPPS considering DR strategy to rapidly forecast the effects of DR sources participating in frequency control. The model was verified through a case study as well.

In this paper, we consider a class of optimal control problem for the singularly perturbed hybrid dynamical systems. By means of variational method, we obtain the necessary conditions of the hybrid dynamical systems. Meanwhile, the existence of solution for the hybrid dynamical system is proved by the sewing method and the uniformly valid asymptotic expansion of the optimal trajectory is constructed by the boundary function method. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate the result.

We prove the existence of an exact solution with a step-like contrast structure and construct its uniform asymptotic expansion. An example is given.

China's national audit office reported huge debt accumulated at all levels of local governments in recent years. This paper aims to explain the factors contributing to the local government debt in China with empirical study on the economic development data. The relationship of government debt and economic ratios is examined with the auto regressive linear equation constructed between the local government debt, fiscal income, GDP growth rate and CPI. Granger causality test is performed to find the granger cause of local government debt from previous year’s data. From the analysis, the risk of local government debt is evaluated from the global settings. Policy implications and suggestions are presented at the end.

The regional integrated energy system is an effective way to realize energy cascade utilization and improve the flexibility and economy of the load side operation. Combine cooling heating and power (CCHP) system is a typical form of integrated energy systems. However, due to heat-load-based operation mode, the peak modulation capacity of CCHP units and the accommodation of renewable energy are limited. This paper explores methods of increasing the flexibility and economy of the system. An optimal scheduling model is proposed for integrated energy systems containing an electric heat pump, considering heating network characteristics. Simulation results show that the electric heat pump can help the system realize heat-and-power decoupling, improve the flexibility of the system and reduce the operating cost of the system.

Grid security is the lifeline of civilization. As one of the most important function in State Estimation (SE), Bad Data Detection (BDD) is vulnerable to false data injection attacks. Therefore, it is very important to develop patent and effective method to detect false data injection attacks. In this paper, we propose an improved cusum algorithm and synergy with the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) to detect false data injection attack. The proposed algorithm tested on IEEE-14 systems successfully, confirm the advantages of the approach.

The modern power system is the integration and development of the physical grid and the information system. However, state estimation in the modern power system faces the rising threat of false data injection attacks, which lead to malfunction of the relay protection, dispatcher's misjudgment or faulty operation. In this paper, we propose an improved detection method to detect false data injection attacks based on the Jensen-Shannon distance. This method tracks the dynamics of measurement variations and calculates the distance between two probability distributions derived from real-time measurement variations and historical measurement variations. When false data is injected into the modern power system, the real-time probability distributions will deviate from the historical ones, thus leading to a larger Jansen-Shannon distance. The proposed method is simulated on the IEEE14-bus system using real load data. Test results demonstrate that our method can accurately detect most of the attacks, and has good stability as well as practicability.

In this article, we study a kind of vector singularly perturbed delay-differential equation. Using boundary layer function method and geometric analysis skill, the asymptotic expression of the system is constructed and the uniform validity of asymptotic solution is also proved.

Smart grid is a space-time multidimensional heterogeneous system integrated with cyber system and power system. Because of event-driven discrete characteristic of communication system and continuous characteristic of power system, it is difficult to study power and communication hybrid system. In traditional researches, the model of either system was simplified and run in one single platform, while the accuracy and practicability of study results can't be guaranteed. Therefore, co-simulation methods have become a research hotspot which can be used to analyze complex dynamic performance of power and communication hybrid system. This paper summarizes existing co-simulation methods by classifying them into three types: unified simulation methods, non-real-time simulation methods and real-time simulation methods. Simulation tools, system architecture and data synchronization problems are also overviewed and analyzed in detail. In order to increase simulation precision and efficiency, a new time synchronization method based on state cache is proposed.
