The article considers the relevance of the problem of assessing the gross value added created by enterprises belonging to the oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation. There is no unified system of statistical indicators in the world that determine the boundaries and characterize the economy of the oil and gas complexes of the countries of the world. The World Bank’s calculation of the share of oil rents in the gross domestic product of the Russian Federation has adopted as one of the simple indicators for assessing the role of the oil and gas complex in the country’s economy. It has been noted that the oil rent is reflected only as a part of the primary income arising from the extraction of oil and gas, their processing, transportation and further use. The expediency of taking into account the entire value chain created in the oil and gas sector of the economy has been justified. The methodological difficulties of a number of interrelated problems have been highlighted in detail: measuring the added value created by service sector enterprises related to the oil and gas sector; complexly organization of production structures (vertically integrated companies); transfer pricing in the oil and gas industry; reflecting taxes and subsidies on products of the oil and gas sector. The conclusion has been made about the expediency of calculating the share of the oil and gas sector in the gross domestic product of the Russian Federation.

International audience; The oil price drop which occurred in international markets in 2014 has revived concerns about the economic situation of Saudi Arabia. The country is at a crossroads, as evidenced by both its unsustainable economic model and the plan that the government proposed in spring 2016 to overcome dependence on oil, Vision 2030. This article examines the country's ability to achieve this objective by analysing the Vision 2030 plan and the socioeconomic challenges that Saudi Arabia is facing. The economic problems of Saudi Arabia do not stem from the weakness of its institutions. Quite the opposite, forged by oil exports, the structures of its rentier economy are well-established and difficult to push forward. To understand such a state of affairs, this article provides an analysis of the Saudi economy's accumulation regime. Furthermore, the article questions development economics regarding oil-rich countries which are concerned by the Dutch disease issue.

Purpose of the article: To investigate and ascertain the impact of oil rent on happiness in selected African countries. Methodology/methods: This study employed the trend analysis to graphically illustrate some major data. It also employed the fixed effect to analyse the model and the partial efficiency analysis to rank the countries studied in terms of their efficiency in the use of oil rent to produce happiness. Scientific aim: This study examines the relationship between oil rent, the oil price, the GDP growth, the mineral rent and happiness. Findings: The results show that oil rent does not significantly increase happiness in the countries studied with Cameroun being the happiest country in the panel. Oil prices however significantly increased happiness. The study also found that the economic growth reduces happiness. Conclusions: The study provides evidence that the economic growth alone does not lead to happiness in the country if citizens are not employed and the rate of inflation continues to spiral upward. The study thus concludes that the economic growth must be inclusive in nature through government use of rents to invest in sectors that create value additions and job opportunities for citizens. The study also recommends the setting of the social safety net, as well as ensuring that inflation is properly managed.

This paper proposes that the Rentier State and Resource Curse theories be considered as two elements of the same paradigm which, despite a growing body of contrary empirical evidence, retains a hegemonic influence in political economy discourse. It will be suggested that a number of reasons account for this, not least, the nature and subject of the “rent” itself. Contemporary notions of rent as essentially constituting unearned and thus unwarranted income, are divorced from a more contextually accurate ‘ground rent’ charge levied for extracting depletable sovereign resources is one. Another is the extent to which the political demonisation of OPEC, combined with the West’s concerted policy response of seeking to liberalise the world oil market in the 1980s and 1990s, is abstracted from the discourse. Moreover, by demonstrating that there is little evidence of the deterministic poverty inducing and deleterious socioeconomic outcomes in the ‘archetypal candidate’ countries of the Arabian Gulf, the utility per se of the RS/RC narrative as a conceptual and/or analytical framework is questioned.

The objective of the study is to examine the relationship between macroeconomic factors (i.e., population growth; urbanization, industrialization, exchange rate, price level, food production index and live stock production index) and renewable energy in Pakistan over a period of 1975-2012. In addition, this study uses oil rent as an intervening variable to overcome the biasness of the single equation model. The results indicate that macroeconomic factors positively contributed to renewable energy consumption in Pakistan. The causality test indicate that there is a unidirectional causality running towards macroeconomic factors to renewable energy in Pakistan, however, renewable energy Granger cause oil rent but not via other route. In addition, there is bidirectional causality between exchange rate and live stock production in Pakistan. Variance decomposition analysis shows that economic growth has a major contribution to increase renewable energy in Pakistan.

The gasoline price transform into the social phenomenon by its role in economy. For the state, it is a source of budget revenue through indirect taxes, which in majority of countries make up most of the price. The upper bound of a gasoline price is limited by risk of mass protests. For the citizens a gasoline price affects the cost of living. The lower bound of this price is limited to possibility of the authorities to subsidize it. Balances of interests of the authorities and citizens are estimated for the gasoline prices deviating from the normal. Normal gasoline prices are offered as standard, with respect to which of the actual prices can distinguish high and low. We propose an econometric model for the estimation of the normal price. The analysis of the results of estimation is presented for 97 countries and the data for 2000, 2004 and 2006. Showing the problems emerging in Russia

Given a constant oil price the difference in diesel fuel prices between countries is caused by the different taxes. The average share of taxes in the price determines the normal price. An estimation of the normal price of diesel fuel is made using an econometric model (using 79 countries, 1998-2008 by even years). Of greatest interest to economic policy are normal prices for countries with economies in transition and developing countries. This paper is organized as follows. In the introduction a definition of the term "normal price" and why it is important are presented. The first chapter is devoted to the notion of "price level" both international and national. The normal price is calculated using an econometric model.
