Abstract

Relapse remains the most common cause of treatment failure in patients receiving autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for follicular lymphoma (FL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding radioimmunotherapy or rituximab (R) to BEAM (carmustine, etoposide, ara-c, melphalan) high-dose therapy for ASCT in patients with relapsed FL. Using the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation registry, we conducted a cohort comparison of BEAM (n=1973), Zevalin-BEAM (Z-BEAM) (n=207) and R-BEAM (n=179) and also a matched-cohort analysis of BEAM vs Z-BEAM including 282 and 154 patients, respectively. BEAM, Z-BEAM and R-BEAM groups were well balanced for age, time from diagnosis to ASCT and disease status at ASCT. The cumulative incidences of relapse (IR) at 2 years were 34, 34 and 32% for Z-BEAM, R-BEAM and BEAM, respectively. By multivariate analysis, there were no significant differences with Z-BEAM or R-BEAM compared with BEAM for IR, non-relapse mortality, event-free survival or overall survival. With the caveat that the limitations of registry analyses have to be taken into account, this study does not support adding radioimmunotherapy or R to BEAM in ASCT for relapsed FL. However, we cannot rule out the existence a particular subset of patients who could benefit from Z-BEAM conditioning that cannot be identified in our series, and this should be tested in a randomized trial.Bone Marrow Transplantation advance online publication, 22 May 2017; doi:10.1038/bmt.2017.88.

Abstract

Chronic GvHD-related keratoconjunctivitis sicca (cGvHD-related KCS) can significantly alter the quality of life of patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The aim of this work was to assess the efficacy and tolerability of scleral lenses to treat severe cGvHD-related KCS. In this retrospective, multicenter study, we included 60 consecutive patients diagnosed with cGvHD-related KCS and fitted with scleral lenses. Patients were evaluated at baseline and at 2 months with the following tests: the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) to assess quality of life, the Oxford score to grade corneal damage and the logarithm of minimal angle of resolution (Log MAR) scale to determine visual acuity. We observed improvement in quality of life in 58 patients (97%). All parameters improved at 2 months. Abstract

We present in our work numerical results on the performance of a $\mathbf {4 \times 4}$ swirl-topology photonic reservoir integrated on a silicon chip. Nonlinear microring resonators are used as nodes. We analyze the performance of such a reservoir on a classical nonlinear Boolean task (the delayed XOR task) for: various designs of the reservoir in terms of lengths of the waveguides between consecutive nodes, and various injection parameters (injected power and optical detuning). From this analysis, we find that this kind of reservoir can perform–for a large variety of parameters–the delayed XOR task at 20 Gb/s with bit error rates lower than $\mathbf {10^{-3}}$ and an averaged injection power lower than 2.5 mW.

Abstract

International audience; The development of new all-optical technologies for data processing and signal manipulation is a field of growing importance with a strong potential for numerous applications in diverse areas of modern science. Nonlinear phenomena occurring in optical fibres have many attractive features and great, but not yet fully explored potential in signal processing. Here, we review recent progress on the use of fibre nonlinearities for the generation and shaping of optical pulses and on the applications of advanced pulse shapes in all-optical signal processing. Amongst other topics, we will discuss ultrahigh repetition rate pulse sources, the generation of parabolic shaped pulses in active and passive fibres, the generation of pulses with triangular temporal profiles, and coherent super-continuum sources. The signal processing applications will span optical regeneration, linear distortion compensation, optical decision at the receiver in optical communication systems, spectral and temporal signal doubling and frequency conversion.

Abstract

International audience; Due to the continued demand for bandwidth, network operators have to increase the data rates at which individual wavelengths operate at. As these data rates will exceed 100 Gbit/s in the next 5 – 10 years, it will be crucial to be able to monitor and compensate for the amount of chromatic dispersion encountered by individual wavelength channels. This paper will focus on the use of the novel nonlinear optical-to-electrical conversion process of Two-Photon Absorption (TPA) for dispersion monitoring. By incorporating a specially designed semiconductor microcavity, the TPA response becomes wavelength dependent, thus allowing simultaneous channel selection and monitoring without the need for external wavelength filtering.

International audience; We propose a new method for the generation of both triangular-shaped optical pulses and flat-top, coherent supercontinuum spectra using the effect of fourth-order dispersion on parabolic pulses in a passive, normally dispersive highly nonlinear fiber. The pulse re-shaping process is described qualitatively and is compared to numerical simulations.

Abstract

CLEO subject 8 "Ultrafast Optics, Optoelectronics and applications", technical session “Ultrafast Measurement Techniques” [CTuAA5]; International audience; We demonstrate a highly-efficient optical sampling system based upon the nonlinear process of Two-Photon Absorption in a specially designed semiconductor micro-cavity. The sensitivity of the system is around 0.1mW2 and the temporal resolution is 2ps.
