Abstract

We hypothesize that the SARS-CoV-2 genome contains an extraordinarily high content of GU-rich sequences. These are known to activate the TLR-8 pathway of innate immunity, causing the cytokine storm in COVID-19. The result is upregulation of the expression of IL-6 and acute phase reactants, which increases blood viscosity. This increase in blood viscosity is responsible for the thrombotic complications seen in COVID-19. &nbsp
