This article aims at identifying the impact that the implementation of teleworking has had due to the declaration of the pandemic for COVID-19, the actions taken by the organizations in the promotion of mental health, and the effects on health reported by workers. To achieve the stated purpose, mixed exploratory research methods were applied; with the participation of 88 people, of which 44 were male and 43 female. The results indicate that most of the organizations have conducted activities for the promotion of mental health. In addition, it was reported that the performance of the workers has improved; however, there are reports of an increase in symptoms such as insomnia, physical and mental exhaustion, among others. In conclusion, even though there have been activities carried out to promote mental health, and the reported performance has improved, negative effects on mental health are equally reported, thus, there is an evident need to continue researching the impact on mental health and work performance. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo identificar los efectos que generó la aplicación del teletrabajo debido a la declaración de pandemia por la enfermedad de COVID-19, las medidas tomadas por las organizaciones en Costa Rica para la promoción de la salud mental y los efectos en la salud reportados por las personas trabajadoras. Para ello se utilizó una metodología mixta de carácter exploratorio, con la participación de 88 personas; 44 seleccionaron género masculino, 43 género femenino. Los resultados reportaron que la mayoría de las organizaciones sí realizaron actividades para la promoción de la salud mental. Además, se reportó que el desempeño laboral del personal mejoró; no obstante, se reporta un incremento de síntomas como el insomnio, agotamiento tanto físico como mental, entre otros. Se concluye que, si bien se realizaron actividades para la promoción de la salud mental y el desempeño reportado ha mejorado, de igual forma se identifica una afectación en la salud mental; por lo que se evidencia la necesidad de continuar investigaciones sobre el impacto de la situación actual en la salud mental y el desempeño laboral.

Resumen Introducción: en pacientes con obesidad severa y mórbida se ha observado que la evaluación por bioimpedanciometría (BIA) genera una subestimación de la masa grasa (MG) y del peso perdido como MG después de la cirugía bariátrica, sobreestimándose la pérdida de masa libre de grasa (MLG) y la masa muscular. Objetivo: evaluar la confiabilidad de la BIA para estimar el agua corporal total (ACT), la MLG, la MG y sus cambios después de 6 meses de un baipás gástrico en Y de Roux (BPGYR) en pacientes con obesidad severa y mórbida. Métodos: 36 adultos con indicación de BPGYR se estudiaron prospectivamente. Se midió el ACT por deuterio (D) y se calcularon la MLG y MG. Con BIA de doble frecuencia (5 y 200 kHz) (Bodystat Dualscan®) se estimaron la MG, la MLG, el ACT, el agua extracelular (AEC), el agua intracelular (AIC) y la relación AEC/AIC. Resultados: antes del BPGYR, la BIA sobreestimó el ACT en 2,6 ± 4,3 L (p = 0,002) y la MLG en 3,5 ± 5,7 kg (p = 0,002), y subestimó el %MG en 2,98 ± 4,7% (p = 0,002). La relación AEC/AIC mostró una correlación positiva con la sobreestimación de la MLG por BIA (r = 0,49; p = 0,002). Después de la cirugía, las diferencias entre BIA y D no fueron significativas y el error de estimación de la MLG no se correlacionó con la relación AEC/AIC. Conclusiones: la BIA genera una subestimación de la MG como la reportada, la cual se atenúa después de la reducción de peso, subestimando el peso perdido como MG y sobreestimando la pérdida de MLG. Futuras investigaciones podrán evaluar si estos errores se reproducen con otros equipos de BIA.

Root hypoxia in fruit trees affects growth, vegetative development, and reproductive development, which is reflected in low productivity, poor fruit quality, and premature decay of trees. Using Illumina Hiseq2000, we performed transcriptome analysis of roots from two different rootstocks, ‘Mariana 2624’ and ‘Mazzard F12/1,’ which are tolerant and sensitive to hypoxia, respectively. Transcriptomes from control and hypoxia-stressed plants (6, 24, and 72 h) were compared, using Prunus persica (L.) as reference genome. Hypoxic conditions altered the transcription in both genotypes. There were a high number of common differentially expressed genes (DEG) between the two genotypes for each sampling time, but also exclusive DEG for each genotype, with a few DEG that presented opposite modes of regulations during the hypoxia treatment. An important group of DEGs exclusively upregulated in the tolerant genotype are associated to enzymes of posttranslational protein modifications, such as leucine-rich repeat (LRR), kinases and ubiquitin-protein ligases, regulation of transcription, and process of oxide reduction. Singular enrichment analysis of gene ontology (GO), detected at least 115 GOs involved in the response to root hypoxia in the sensitive and/or tolerant genotypes. At least 25 GOs were identified as part of the baseline differences between the genotypes, most GO were disturbed in the sensitive genotype. The contribution from the baseline gene expression to the differential response between the Prunus genotypes is evidence that the resistant genotype is already “prepared” for a hypoxia event. An example are GO BP:0042221 of response to chemical stimulus; BP:0006979 of response to oxidative stress; MF:0016209 of antioxidant activity; MF:0016684 of oxidoreductase activity, acting on peroxide as acceptor; and MF:0004601 of peroxidase activity, which were disturbed only in the sensitive genotype, but not in the tolerant.

Tesis (Psicopedagogo, Licenciado en Educación) Este programa de intervención nace debido a la falta de información que existe sobre la lateralidad y cómo ésta influye en los problemas de aprendizaje. Asimismo, se elabora con el fin de darles a los profesionales del área de educación y a quienes estén a cargo de los niños/as una herramienta útil para estimular la lateralidad en niños y niñas de tres a seis años, buscando evitar posibles dificultades de aprendizaje producto de una lateralidad indefinida. La lateralización es el proceso de maduración mediante el cual los niños y niñas desarrollan su preferencia lateral. Este proceso se debe dar de manera espontánea y sin obligaciones respecto a qué mano deban utilizar, puesto que éste se encuentra estrechamente relacionado con los aprendizajes de la lectura, escritura y cálculo. A partir de los cinco años, el niño/a inicia su aprendizaje de pre-escritura, lo cual le resultará más fácil si lo hace con la mano que tiene mayor destreza o que utiliza mejor. De lo contrario si el niño o la niña no sabe qué mano utilizar o se ve obligado al uso de una por sobre la otra, es posible que se generen ciertos retrasos en la adquisición de la lecto-escritura y en los diversos aprendizajes de la vida cotidiana. El objetivo principal de este Seminario fue crear un programa de intervención temprana para prevenir dificultades de lateralidad en niños/as de tres a seis años de edad, con el fin de que éstos logren establecer con éxito su lado dominante del cuerpo. Por otro lado, este programa busca entregarles a los profesionales a cargo de la educación, las herramientas necesarias y la debida información para lograr que el niño/a defina su lateralidad. Se considera de suma importancia la existencia de un material concreto y didáctico que estimule la lateralidad, de manera que el niño/a no sienta que está realizando tareas propias del ámbito académico, sino actividades interactivas a modo de juego, las cuales le permitirán tomar un rol activo. en su aprendizaje, facilitándole la adquisición de éste en las áreas de lectura, escritura y cálculo.
