Comparative studies on some histoenzymic entities wereconducted on the trachea and lung tissues of adult Pashmina,Bakerwali and non-descript goats (n=10 each) inhabitingat different altitudes and geo-climatic conditions of Ladakhand Jammu and Kashmir. The study was conducted inDivision of Veterinary Anatomy, Faculty of VeterinaryScience and Animal Husbandry, R S. Pura, Jammu in 2019.A part of the same was also conducted in the Departmentof Veterinary Anatomy and Histology, GADVASU,Ludhiana. Tissues from these organs were subjected forlocalizing certain tissue enzymes, viz. Alkaline phosphatase(AKPase), Glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH), Lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH), Succinic aciddehydrogenase (SDH) and NADPH. The epithelial liningof trachea showed strong reaction to G-6-Pase and LDH inBakerwali goat, while SDH showed strong reaction inPashmina goats. Again, in regard to lung tissues, AKPaseand LDH showed moderate to strong reactions in Pashminagoat, but SDH exhibited strong reactions. In Bakerwaligoats, AKPase and LDH showed moderate to strongreactions, while in non-descript goats, LDH exhibitedmoderate to strong reactions and G6PDH showed intensereactions. This revealed that not much variations wereobserved in regard to localization of certain histoenzymicentities in trachea and lung tissues of three breeds of goatswhich are the inhabitants of different altitudes and geoclimatic conditions.

The present report communicates a case of canine trypanosomosis with ophthalmic involvement, its diagnosis, hemato-biochemistry and therapeutic management in a 2 year old dog. The dog had history of bilateral corneal opacity and impaired vision since last 4 weeks. On the basis of history and clinical signs, a presumptive diagnosis of canine trypanosomosis was made followed by confirmation with Giemsa stained buffy coat smear examination. Therapeutic regimen was comprised of Diminazine aceturate @ 3.5 mg/kg deep IM for two occasions 24 h apart along with parenteral fluids, hematinics, NSAID and multivitamins which yielded favourable response by third day post-therapy. Haemato-biochemical parameters took nearly 14 days of time to return to near normal levels. Improvement with respect to corneal opacity took 6 weeks of time and the animal was followed up to 3 months without any recurrence.

Rationale and objectivesThe purpose of this study was to quantify the degree of imaging-histologic discordance in a cohort of patients undergoing computed tomography (CT)-guided lung biopsy for focal lung disease.Materials and methodsA retrospective review was performed of 186 patients who underwent percutaneous lung biopsy of a parenchymal lesion at our institution between January and December 2009. Diagnostic radiology reports of CT or positron emission tomography-CTs performed before biopsy were used to classify the lesion as malignant or benign by five readers. Pathology reports of the biopsied lesions were classified by three readers. Inter-reader agreement and imaging-histologic concordance were quantified using kappa statistics. Discordant benign cases were then revisited to determine downstream effects.ResultsInter-reader agreement on report content was substantial or almost perfect with kappas >0.783. Kappas for concordance were as follows: malignant (0.448), primary lung cancer (0.517), metastatic disease to lung (0.449), benign (0.510), and overall agreement (0.381). Of the twelve discordant benign cases that were revisited, four were found to be false negatives, resulting in a delay in diagnosis.ConclusionsOur study of imaging-histologic discordance in percutaneous biopsy of lung lesions supports the need for imaging report standardization and improved integration and communication between the fields of radiology and pathology.

The present paper describes the design of a cost effective, better resolution data acquisition system (DAS) which is compatible to most of the PC and laptops. A low cost DAS has been designed using PIC12F675 having 4-channel analog input with 10-bit resolution for the monitoring of slowly varying signals. The DAS so designed is interfaced to the serial port of the PC. Firmware is written in Basic using Oshonsoft PIC IDE and burn to the microcontroller by using PICkit2 programmer. An application program is also developed using Visual Basic 6 which allows to display the waveform of the signal(s) and simultaneously the data also can be saved into the hard disk of the computer for future use and analysis., Comment: Published in the Journal of Instrument Society of India (ISOI)

We study the EPR correlation implied by the entangled wavefunction of the $B^0\bar{B}^0$ pair created by the $\Upsilon $(4S) resonance. The analysis uses the basis provided by the mass eigenstates $B_1,B_2$ rather than the flavour states $B^0, \bar{B}^0$. The spotted murrel, Channa punctatus were exposed to sublethal concentration of endosulfan (8.1 µg/L) for 48 and 96 h to elucidate the impact of the pesticide on the ionic composition in different organs of the fish. After 48 and 96 h endosulfan exposure, fish were randomly selected from each control and experimental tanks, anesthetized, sacrificed and then different organs like liver, kidney, gill and muscle were dissected for mineral estimation. Results showed that liver Ca and Mg levels after 48 h increased significantly, however after 96 h, these two minerals showed reduction in their levels. The remaining minerals in the liver (P, Na, K, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn) did not change significantly with increase in the exposure duration however, showed a decreasing trend after 96 h. Kidney Ca and Mg after 48 h exposure increased significantly by 89.5 and 79.8% and after 96 h the concentration of both these minerals were non-significantly higher by 23.2 and 27.8% from the control. Kidney Mn level after 96 h was also significant higher (by 31.7%) than the control. The remaining kidney minerals (P, Na, K, Fe, Zn and Cu) did not change significantly with change in the exposure duration, however, after 96 h some of them (P, Na, Zn) increased. Gill Ca level decreased significantly with the increase in the duration of endosulfan. Gill Fe and Cu levels also showed almost similar trend like gill Ca. The remaining minerals (P, Na, K, Zn, Mg and Mn) in the gill were not significant influenced by endosulfan exposure however, they (except Mn) showed a decreasing trend after 96 h. In muscle tissue, P and K increased significantly with the increase in the exposure periods whereas, muscle Zn showed a reverse trend. The remaining minerals (Na, Ca, Fe, Mg, Cu and Mn) did not change significantly with the change in the endosulfan exposure time however, they (except Mg and Mn) showed a decreasing trend at the end of 96 h. In essence, the present study showed that the concentration of majority of the minerals in the liver, gill and muscle after 96 h endosulfan exposure decreased, however, their level increased in the kidney. Thus, exposure of sublethal endosulfan concentration to C. punctatus caused significant alterations in the ionic composition in different organs of their body.

Signature represents an individual characteristic of a person which can be used for his / her validation. For such application proper modeling is essential. Here we propose an offline signature recognition and verification scheme which is based on extraction of several features including one hybrid set from the input signature and compare them with the already trained forms. Feature points are classified using statistical parameters like mean and variance. The scanned signature is normalized in slant using a very simple algorithm with an intention to make the system robust which is found to be very helpful. The slant correction is further aided by the use of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The suggested scheme discriminates between originals and forged signatures from simple and random forgeries. Recent estimates suggest that up to 34% of frontline workers in healthcare (FLWs) at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic response are reporting elevated symptoms of psychological distress due to resource constraints, ineffective treatments, and concerns about self-contamination. However, little systematic research has been carried out to assess the mental health needs of FLWs in Europe, or the extent of psychological suffering in FLWs within different European countries of varying outbreak severity. Accordingly, this project will employ a mixed-methods approach over three work packages to develop best-practice guidelines for alleviating psychological distress in FLWs during the different phases of the pandemic. Work package 1 will identify the point and long-term prevalence of psychological distress symptoms in a sample of Irish and Italian FLWs, and the predictors of these symptoms. Work package 2 will perform a qualitative needs assessment on a sample of Irish and Italian FLWs to identify sources of stress and resilience, barriers to psychological care, and optimal strategies for alleviating psychological distress in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. Work package 3 will synthesise the findings from the preceding work packages to draft best practice guidelines, which will be co-created by a multidisciplinary panel of experts using the Delphi method. The guidelines will provide clinicians with a framework for alleviating psychological distress in FLWs, with particular relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic, but may also have relevance for future pandemics and other public health emergencies.
