Sea ice and snow are essential to Arctic ecosystems, playing key roles in the lives of Arctic marine mammals and the Indigenous Peoples who rely on them. Ringed seals Pusa hispida (‘natchiq’ in Iñupiaq) use snow-covered dens on sea ice for pupping, but quantitative information on denning habitat requirements is limited, and it is unknown how changes in snow depth and sea-ice extent will impact ringed seals. Here, an Indigenous Elder Advisory Council and a multidisciplinary group of scientists used knowledge co-production to quantify fine-scale ringed seal habitat selection patterns in Kotzebue Sound, Alaska (USA), during a year of unprecedentedly limited snow and sea-ice availability. Together, we conducted unoccupied aerial vehicle-based surveys during spring 2019 and related seal counts to survey date, bathymetry, and novel proxies for snow depth and surface roughness that we derived from Landsat 8 surface reflectance and validated with on-ice measurements. Generalized additive models showed that counts of seal groups (all age classes) and pups were associated with later survey dates, deeper water, and habitat with bright Landsat 8 pixel values and intermediate pixel variability, which in turn were correlated with deep snow and surface roughness. We observed shallow snow depths, early sea-ice breakup, and high seal densities consistent with the extreme lack of ice available in 2019. Indigenous Knowledge, intentionally woven with scientific data, provided novel and more nuanced understandings of snow and sea-ice conditions for seals. Our results may give a glimpse at future ringed seal habitat and selection in a warming Arctic.

Thyroid [123I]MIBG uptake is proposed as a tool for differentiating between Parkinson's disease (PD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) on [123I]MIBG scintigraphies since both patient groups show decreased cardiac uptake. One study compared thyroid [123I]MIBG uptake in DM and PD patients and reported reduced [123I]MIBG uptake only in the PD group. Here, we investigated thyroid [123I]MIBG uptake in patients with PD and DM and found severely reduced thyroid [123I]MIBG uptake in DM. Larger studies are needed to substantiate whether DM patients are more or less likely to exhibit decreased thyroid MIBG uptake compared to controls and PD patients.

We show that the first-order logical theory of the binary overlap-free words (and, more generally, the ${\alpha}$-free words for rational ${\alpha}$, $2 < {\alpha} \leq 7/3$), is decidable. As a consequence, many results previously obtained about this class through tedious case- based proofs can now be proved "automatically", using a decision procedure.

We prove that the number of irreducible ordinary characters in the principal $p$-block of a finite group $G$ of order divisible by $p$ is always at least $2\sqrt{p-1}$. This confirms a conjecture of H\'{e}thelyi and K\"{u}lshammer for principal blocks and provides an affirmative answer to Brauer's Problem 21 for principal blocks of bounded defect. ObjectivesDyspnoea is a common persistent symptom post-coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) illness. However, mechanisms underlying dyspnoea in the post-COVID-19 syndrome remain unclear. The aim of our study was to examine dyspnoea quality and intensity, burden of mental health symptoms, and differences in exercise responses in people with and without persistent dyspnoea following COVID-19.Methods49 participants with mild-to-critical COVID-19 were included in this cross-sectional study 4 months following acute illness. Between group comparisons were made in those with and without persistent dyspnoea (defined as modified Medical Research Council dyspnoea score ≥1). Participants completed standardised dyspnoea and mental health symptom questionnaires, pulmonary function tests, and incremental cardiopulmonary exercise testing.ResultsExertional dyspnoea intensity and unpleasantness were increased in the dyspnoea group. The dyspnoea group described dyspnoea qualities of suffocating and tightness at peak exercise (pE/VCO2) nadir was higher (32±5versus28±3, pversus49±11%predicted maximum oxygen uptake, p=0.04) in the dyspnoea group, indicating ventilatory inefficiency and deconditioning in this group. The dyspnoea group experienced greater symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress (all pConclusionsPeople with persistent dyspnoea following COVID-19 experience a specific dyspnoea quality phenotype. Dyspnoea post-COVID-19 is related to abnormal pulmonary gas exchange and deconditioning and is linked to increased symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.

Neste texto, apresentam-se resultados de uma investigação qualitativa colaborativa, realizada em 2020 e 2021, em um grupo de professores sobre conhecimentos necessários ao docente que vai ensinar divisão de fração por fração no ensino fundamental. A metodologia utilizada foi a reflexão sobre a prática de seis professoras acerca de seus entendimentos e conhecimentos sobre o tema em encontros semanais do grupo. Traz um diálogo entre ensino e aprendizagem, ao buscar a compreensão do conceito e sua transposição didática, com base nas reflexões do grupo e no que pensam autores de educação matemática e à luz da filosofia. Discutem-se alternativas de algoritmos para o acesso ao conceito formal e a relevância deste, ao procurar o entendimento instrumental e relacional de uma tarefa. Uma das autoras tinha usado anteriormente com estudantes de pedagogia tal tarefa avaliativa em 2021. O estudo sugere ser possível ensinar este tema com compreensão, desde que o professor tenha objetivos claros, conhecimento conceitual e pedagógico de como ensinar fração e operações com frações. Ademais, recomenda que o professor considere os limites da contextualização, mas com a consciência de que a matemática não se produz em um vácuo. Enfim, mostra como um grupo de seis professoras refletiu sobre os próprios conhecimentos, quando evidenciaram potencialidades e fragilidades no ensino de tal tema..

Reducing treatment burden is a priority for people with cystic fibrosis, whose health has benefited from using new modulators that substantially increase CFTR protein function. The SIMPLIFY study aimed to assess the effects of discontinuing nebulised hypertonic saline or dornase alfa in individuals using the CFTR modulator elexacaftor plus tezacaftor plus ivacaftor (ETI).The SIMPLIFY study included two parallel, multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, non-inferiority trials at 80 participating clinics across the USA in the Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutics Development Network. We included individuals with cystic fibrosis aged 12-17 years with percent predicted FEVFrom Aug 25, 2020, to May 25, 2022, a total of 672 unique participants were screened for eligibility for one or both trials, resulting in 847 total random assignments across both trials with 594 unique participants. 370 participants were randomly assigned in the hypertonic saline trial and 477 in the dornase alfa trial. Participants across both trials had an average ppFEVIn individuals with cystic fibrosis on ETI with relatively well preserved pulmonary function, discontinuing daily hypertonic saline or dornase alfa for 6 weeks did not result in clinically meaningful differences in pulmonary function when compared with continuing treatment.

Laser hair removal is associated with moderate acute pain.To compare effectiveness of ice pack to topical lidocaine-prilocaine for pain reduction during axillary laser hair removal.Participants were randomly assigned to receive topical anesthetic to one axilla and ice packs to the other before each of 3, monthly 810 nm diode laser sessions. The primary endpoint was participant-reported pain on the visual analog scale (VAS) immediately following and 5 minutes after laser session. Posttreatment erythema, overall edema, and perifollicular edema were assessed by 2 blinded photoraters. Skin temperatures, patient preferences, and adverse events were recorded.Eighty-eight of 90 (98%) planned laser treatments were delivered and randomized. Participants reported higher VAS scores immediately after laser treatment with lidocaine-prilocaine compared to ice (P = .03). Five minutes after, participants reported higher VAS scores with ice (P = .03). After 53 of the 88 treatments (60.2%), participants reported preferring ice (P = .055). No serious adverse events were reported.All participants were Caucasian or Asian with Fitzpatrick skin type I to III and coarse dark axillary hair, which may limit generalizability.While pain control with ice and topical anesthesia is associated with time after treatment, the 2 modalities do not differ in terms of degree of pain reduction associated with axillary laser hair removal.

Interdisciplinary topics and fields need special attention to ensure that the breadth of the knowledge they represent are completely expressed. This is especially important and difficult to achieve in curriculum areas that tend to add new ideas on a constant basis and are sometimes interdisciplinary themselves. The topic/field cyber warfare is area this paper considers. This paper recommends and describes a lesson plan that provides the means of achieving a fully expressed examination of cyber warfare. The outcome is an articulation of the concept that will diffuse knowledge about cyber warfare. The lesson plan will be useful to any institution (particularly universities and government agencies) that need to diffuse knowledge about cyber warfare.

SUMMARYThe inference of fluid motion below the core–mantle boundary from geomagnetic observations presents a highly non-unique inverse problem. We propose a new method that provides a unique local estimate of the velocity field, assuming quasi-geostrophic flow in the core interior (which implies equatorial mirror symmetry) and negligible magnetic diffusion. These assumptions remove the theoretical underdetermination, enabling us to invert for the flow at each point of a spherical grid representing the core surface. The unreliable reconstruction of small-scale flows, which arises because only large-scale observations are available, is mitigated by smoothing the locally estimated velocity field using a Gaussian process regression. Application of this method to synthetic data provided by a state-of-the-art geodynamo simulation suggests that using this approach, the large-scale flow pattern of the core surface flow can be well reconstructed, while the flow amplitude tends to be underestimated. We compare these results with a core flow inversion using a Bayesian framework that incorporates statistics from numerical geodynamo models as prior information. We find that whether the latter method provides a more accurate recovery of the reference flow than the local estimation depends heavily on how realistic/relevant the chosen prior information is. Application to real geomagnetic data shows that both methods are able to reproduce the main features found in previous core flow studies.

The 25th Computer Olympiad was held online during July/August 2022. With 53 participating programs competing in 18 events, the event was a success.

Genetic evaluation of men with advanced prostate cancer is recognized as imperative both to guide treatment decisions and to trigger cascade genetic testing of family members. Here we investigate utilization patterns of genetic testing among a contemporary cohort of men with advanced prostate cancer at our institution.We queried the Northwestern Electronic Data Warehouse from January 2021 to present for all men diagnosed with National Comprehensive Cancer Network high-risk/very high-risk, regional, or metastatic prostate cancer. Patients were excluded from analyses if treated at an outside institution and/or presented for a second opinion evaluation. Statistics were performed using t-test, Chi-squared test, and univariable and multivariable logistic regression with significance defined as p 0.05.Atotal of 320 men (52.5%) had local/regional disease and 290 (47.5%) had metastatic disease, 53 (18.3%) of whom had castrate resistant prostate cancer. Rates of germline genetic testing rate were low in patients with localized disease (9.4%) and metastatic disease (34.1%). Only 19 (35.8%) men diagnosed with metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer underwent germline genetic evaluation. Germline testing was most frequently discussed or ordered by medical oncologists (52%) followed by urologists (20%). Men who underwent germline testing were younger (p 0.001), more likely to have Medicaid or private insurance (p = 0.002), and more likely to have metastatic disease (p 0.001). There were no statistically significant differences in baseline PSA, ethnicity, race, or castration sensitivity status. Age (odds ratio [OR]: 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.91-0.97, p 0.001) and metastatic disease (OR: 5.71, 95% CI: 3.63-9.22, p 0.001) were significant independent predictors of genetic testing on multivariable logistic regression.Here we report that utilization of genetic testing is associated with metastatic disease and inversely associated with age. Overall, utilization rates of genetic testing remain low in all patient groups, including in the metastatic castrate resistant setting, where genetic testing can identify patients with homologous recombination repair deficiency who may benefit from use of targeted therapeutics such as PARP inhibitors. Genetic testing in men with aggressive prostate cancer is critical and barriers to routine implementation of testing require further study to develop strategies to improve utilization rates.

Random feature methods have been successful in various machine learning tasks, are easy to compute, and come with theoretical accuracy bounds. They serve as an alternative approach to standard neural networks since they can represent similar function spaces without a costly training phase. However, for accuracy, random feature methods require more measurements than trainable parameters, limiting their use for data-scarce applications or problems in scientific machine learning. This paper introduces the sparse random feature expansion to obtain parsimonious random feature models. Specifically, we leverage ideas from compressive sensing to generate random feature expansions with theoretical guarantees even in the data-scarce setting. In particular, we provide generalization bounds for functions in a certain class (that is dense in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space) depending on the number of samples and the distribution of features. The generalization bounds improve with additional structural conditions, such as coordinate sparsity, compact clusters of the spectrum, or rapid spectral decay. In particular, by introducing sparse features, i.e. features with random sparse weights, we provide improved bounds for low order functions. We show that the sparse random feature expansions outperforms shallow networks in several scientific machine learning tasks.

Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERT) were employed at multiple institutions to bridge the gap between varied treatment options for acute PE and unclear evidence for optimal management. There is limited data regarding the impact of PERT on the use of advanced therapies and clinical outcomes.We performed a retrospective single-center cohort study comparing patients that presented to the ED with an acute PE before and after the creation of PERT in June 2017 at our institution. We assessed utilization of advanced therapies, LOS, and mortality.A total of 817 patients (168 pre-PERT, 649 post-PERT) were evaluated in the ED with an acute PE between October 2016 and December 2019. Both groups were similar in demographics, comorbidities, and PESI score. There was a decrease in advanced therapy use (16 % vs. 7.5 %, p = 0.006) after PERT creation. Most notable decreases were in catheter-based therapies (8.5 % vs. 2.2 %, p = 0.008) and IVC filter placement (5.3 % vs. 3.2 %, p 0.001). Median ICU LOS (2.5 days vs. 2.3 days, p = 0.55) and hospital LOS (3.1 vs. 3.0, p = 0.92) did not vary pre-PERT vs. post-PERT. In-hospital mortality (8.5 % vs. 5.0 %, p = 0.29) and 30-day all-cause mortality (1.2 % vs. 0.5 %, p = 0.28) were not different between the two groups as well.At our institution, PERT was associated with a decrease in advanced therapies administered to acute PE patients without affecting mortality or LOS. Additional studies to assess impact of this multi-disciplinary care team model on interventional therapies and clinical outcomes for PE at a broader level are necessary.

Desert springs contain many endemic taxa and are of conservation concern due to anthropogenic activities that are expected to increase environmental salinity. Understanding the nature of osmoregulation is necessary to predict how non-vagile aquatic organisms will respond to changes. In the Chihuahuan Desert, the amphipod genus Gammarus Fabricius, 1775 is composed of two lineages. These lineages have species that currently inhabit springs ranging from 0.4 to 7.8 parts per thousand (ppt). All Gammarus in this region are of conservation concern because each is endemic to a single spring system. We exposed individuals of Gammarus colei Walters, Cannizzaro, and Berg in Walters, Cannizzaro, Trujillo and Berg, 2020 and Gammarus seideli Cannizzaro, Walters and Berg, 2018 species occupying low-salinity springs, to the range of salinities found in the Chihuahuan Desert. We measured metabolic rates as [Formula: see text] to examine the energetic cost of osmoregulation. We also measured the hemolymph osmolality of G. colei and compared that with the isosmotic line to determine the degree of osmoregulation. Neither species increased its metabolic rate across increasing salinities. However, G. colei showed an increase in hemolymph osmolality. Despite the divergence (∼66 million years ago) between the two lineages, it appears their physiological tolerances have converged, suggesting that both lineages may be able to persist when exposed to moderate salinity changes.

Two novel compounds isolated from an amber sample from the Santonian of Piolenc (Vaucluse, SE France) were identified using nuclear magnetic resonance and high-resolution mass spectrometry as sulfurized analogues of diterpenic acids from the isopimaric series originating from ancient conifers possibly related to the Cupressaceae family. These two compounds are members of a diterpenoid series corresponding to early diagenetic transformation products of resin diterpenoids. They were likely formed once plant resin comes into contact with reduced sulfur species originating from bacterial sulfate reduction occurring in anaerobic settings such as mangroves or marshes. They represent the first evidence of sulfurization processes affecting plant resin prior to diagenetic transformation into amber. Given their mode of formation, these compounds may be used as indicators of sulfate-reducing processes in past depositional environments.

In polar regions, sea ice is a crucial mediator of the interaction between earth’s atmosphere and oceans. Its formation and breakup is intimately connected with local weather patterns and larger-scale climatic processes. During the spring melt and breakup period, snow-covered ice transitions to open water in a matter of weeks. This has a profound impact on the use of sea ice in coastal Arctic regions by Indigenous People, where activities such as hunting and fishing are central to community livelihood. In order to investigate the physical phenomena at the heart of this process, a set of targeted, intensive observations were made over Spring sea ice melt and breakup in Kotzebue Sound, Alaska. This program is part of the Ikaaġvik Sikukun project, a collaborative effort in which an Indigenous Elder advisory council from Kotzebue and scientists participated in co-production of hypotheses and observational research, including a stronger understanding of the physical properties of sea ice during spring melt. Data were collected using high-endurance, fixed-wing uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) containing custom-built scientific payloads. Here we present the results of these measurements. Repeated flights over the measurement period captured the early stages of the transition from a white, snow-covered state to a broken up, bare/blue-green state. We found that the reflectivity of a surface type depends on the size and shape of the features which constitute it. Specifically, large bare blue-green ice features were found to be least reflective, while large snowy/white ice features were found to be most reflective.

Dietary carcinogens, such as 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), and chronic inflammation have each been implicated as etiologic agents in prostate cancer. We hypothesized that bacterial prostatitis would accelerate PhIP-induced preinvasive lesions in the rat prostate. Male Fischer 344 rats were assigned into 4 groups: Control (untreated), PhIP (200 ppm in the diet for 20 weeks), Escherichia coli (E. coli, prostatic inoculation in week 10), or PhIP + E. coli. Study animals were monitored for a total of 52 weeks and were euthanized as necessary based on strict criteria for health status and tumor burden. Animals treated with E. coli initially developed acute and chronic inflammation in all lobes of the prostate, whereas inflammation was observed predominantly in the ventral lobe at time of death. PhIP + E. coli–treated animals exhibited a marked decrease in survival compared with PhIP-alone–treated animals as a result of an increase in the number of invasive cancers that developed at multiple sites, including the skin, small intestine, and Zymbal's gland. Despite their earlier mortality, PhIP + E. coli–treated animals developed an increased average number of precancerous lesions within the prostate compared with PhIP-treated animals, with a significantly increased Ki-67 index. Multiplexed serum cytokine analysis indicated an increase in the level of circulating IL6 and IL12 in PhIP + E. coli–treated animals. Elevated serum IL6 levels correlated with the development of precancerous lesions within the prostate. These results suggest that bacterial infections and dietary carcinogens, two conceivably preventable cancer risk factors, may synergistically promote tumorigenesis. SUMMARY Periodic directional and temporal measurements are common in seismology, and necessitate specific statistical analyses that are appropriate for circular quantities. In this work, we explore the use of a von Mises distribution as a representation of errors on circular seismological observations. Specifically, we automate the estimation of surface-wave phase-velocity dispersion for the teleseismic two-station method, which generally suffers from a 2π phase ambiguity. The use of Bayesian inverse techniques, which aim to rigorously quantify model parameter uncertainty, have become widespread throughout seismology over the last decade. Here, we apply Bayesian inversion to measurements of surface-wave phase spectra in order to estimate 1-D, path-averaged Earth structure between station pairs. The dispersion curve and associated uncertainties are additional results of the inversion, which can then be used as input for subsequent analyses (e.g. tomography). We demonstrate this technique through application to surface-wave recordings from long-running seismic stations throughout western Canada. Our results for over 10 000 station pairs reveal first-order tectonic features consistent with previous studies, which provides confidence in our approach as well as an initial step towards resolving a full 3-D seismic velocity model for the region. This work also presents a foundation for the inversion of surface-wave phase spectra to estimate 3-D Earth structure directly. Finally, the ideas presented in this work are not limited to the inversion of surface-wave phase spectra, but can also be considered for Bayesian geophysical inversion of any circular quantities.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a common condition affecting 5 in 1000 newborns. The standard first line of treatment is the use of an orthotic, which has generally high success rates, but can pose substantial difficulties and put undue burden on caregivers. The general experience of caregivers using these orthotics has not been well documented on an orthotic-specific basis. The purpose of this study was to investigate caregiver experience using prescribed DDH orthotics to identify challenges, differences between treatment options, and areas of improvement.A survey assessing treatment prescription, respondent demographics, and caregiver experience was distributed online to caregivers whose child/children were treated for DDH with an orthotic. Seven-point positively phrased Likert scale statements and open-ended questions were included to assess caregiver experience. The results were analyzed using summary statistics and orthotics with more than 30 responses were selected for more in-depth analysis.A total of 530 survey responses were collected with 63% (334/530) of respondents using a Pavlik harness, 45% (236/530) a Rhino brace, and 13% (67/530) a Denis Browne Bar. The overall weighted average score across all Likert Scale statements was positive for the Pavlik harness, Rhino brace, and Denis Browne Bar at 4.19 (95% CI, 3.83 to 4.54), 4.63 (95% CI, 4.27 to 4.99) and 4.91 (95% CI, 4.58 to 5.24), respectively. In the open-ended responses, all 3 orthotics were perceived as easy to use and not hindering child-caregiver bonding, but raised concerns of discomfort and skin irritation, as well as preventing the ability to cuddle their child the way they desired. The Pavlik harness respondents consistently brought up concerns regarding cleanability.The results show that the DDH orthotics analyzed are generally easy to use and perceived positively by caregivers, but have orthotic-specific challenges that should be a focus of future improvement work.This study evaluated opinions and attitudes of caregivers for children being treated with DDH orthotics, revealing experiences, concerns, and challenges associated with the use of commonly prescribed options.

A crescente demanda energética mundial e os impactos ambientais acarretados pelo uso de combustíveis fósseis, além da estimativa que aponta para o esgotamento das reservas destes recursos ainda neste século, impulsionam cada vez mais a diversificação da matriz energética. A priorização ao uso de fontes de energia limpa, por exemplo, a partir de recursos renováveis, vem sendo pauta em pesquisas e bibliografias no Brasil e no mundo, e tem enfoque tanto na geração quando no armazenamento de energia. Dispositivos que convertem e armazenam energia, como capacitores e baterias, são fundamentais para a disponibilidade da eletricidade para pronto consumo. Capacidade de armazenamento, tempo de carregamento, segurança operacional, vida útil e custo, são alguns dos aspectos relacionados a tais equipamentos com alta relevância para as presentes e futuras aplicações da transformação tecnológica que já vivenciamos no âmbito da energia. A partir de avanços trazidos pelas novas tecnologias, estudos posteriores têm possibilitado a implementação de melhorias também em baterias já conhecidas. Caso como o das baterias Fe- Ni, que apesar de serem produzidas desde o fim do século XIX, caíram em desuso com o surgimento de materiais mais modernos, e nos últimos anos tiveram um renovado interesse como tópico em pesquisas para melhoria dos parâmetros técnicos e aumento de capacidade e eficiência energética. Este trabalho tem como intuito apresentar os recentes avanços aplicados nos métodos de fabricação, e na composição dos materiais e aditivos para os eletrodos e eletrólitos nas baterias Fe-Ni.

The accumulation of organic pollutants in vegetables is a major global food safety issue. The concentrations of pollutants in vegetables usually differ across different tissues because of different transport and accumulation pathways. However, owing to the limitations of conventional methods, in situ localization of typical organic pollutants such as phthalate esters (PAEs) in plant tissues has not yet been studied. Here, we developed a quick and efficient method for in situ detection and imaging of the spatial distribution of PAEs in a typical root vegetable, carrot, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization imaging mass spectrometry (MALDI-IMS). The use of a 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid matrix with a spray-sublimation coating method led to the successful identification of PAEs ion signals. The IMS results showed that a typical PAE-di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) was broadly distributed in the cortex, phloem, and metaxylem, but was barely detectable in the cambium and protoxylem. Interestingly, MALDI-IMS data also revealed for the first time the spatial distribution of sugars and β-carotene in carrots. In summary, the developed method offers a new and practical methodology for the in situ analysis of PAEs and plant metabolites in plant tissues. As a result, it could provide a more intuitive understanding of the movement and transformation of organic pollutants in soil-plant systems.

Este trabalho desenvolveu a construção de geometrias modeladas através de Elementos Finitos (FEM) ante a construção dos núcleos do estator de um motor do tipo fluxo axial, este tipo de máquina que, compõe-se de materiais ferromagnéticos, produzidos a partir da metalurgia do pó. O núcleo, comumente construído de chapas laminadas, norteia a possibilidade dos materiais SMC’s (Soft Magnetic Composites) como alternativa ao laminado de grão não-orientado. Desta forma, o modelo computacional vem a levantar os comportamentos e geometria da máquina. Foi utilizado o software ANSYS ELETRONICS, de maneira a efetuar a simulação e, validar os parâmetros apurados das caracterizações, visando futura aplicação a uma máquina elétrica de fluxo axial do tipo YASA (Yokeless and Segmented Armature). Como resultados, desenvolveram-se núcleos e, demais geometrias visando-se a validação do uso da tecnologia e confirmação de parâmetros tridimensionais, a partir das caracterizações, o qual auxiliará na composição total do estator da máquina elétrica, tem-se que, para região de 7500 A/m as variações de B ficaram entre 1,5 e 1,42 T, para Somaloy® 1P, 1,55 e 1,25 T, para Somaloy® 3P, e, 1,42 e 1,35 T para Somaloy® 5P.

Cultural safety is of utmost concern across the evaluation world, particularly given the way that evaluation and research have historically been implicated in colonising practices of the West. This article aims to examine the meaning of cultural safety in the context of an Aboriginal majority-owned consulting organisation that provides evaluation services to organisations where First Nations governance systems and processes may be unknown. This is a critically reflexive article that considers how the dual aims of contributing to self-determination and building First Nations business capacity may be managed in such evaluation projects. We apply Duke et al.’s Culturally Adaptive Governance Framework to our own evaluation work in striving for evaluations to be experienced as culturally safe by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and for evaluation outcomes to be relevant and useful from the perspective of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and our clients. We then reflect on the implications for the evaluation, social policy and for First Nations business sectors.
