Introduction: Leptin is a hormone-like protein, or some call it as an acute phase inflammatory protein, which recently has gained attention due to its role in regulating metabolism of the human body as well as affecting the body’s defense mechanisms, including macrophages. Materials and Methods: Patients visiting Saveetha Dental College from July to November 2020 were examined. Thirty patients (15 males and 15 females) were included in this study and subdivided into three groups. Group A has participants with healthy periodontium. Group B, periodontitis and diabetes mellitus. Group C has periodontitis patients only. Results: Salivary leptin was observed to be the highest in periodontitis patients with diabetes mellitus followed by patients with periodontitis only and minimal levels in periodontal health patients. Conclusion: The results indicate that salivary leptin levels are raised in the saliva of patients with periodontitis with diabetes mellitus than healthy controls and hence can be an important biomarker for periodontal therapeutic purposes.

This paper shows a charging scheme for electric vehicles that would be faster, effective, and reliable than the existing system. This work proposed the method of changing the current parameters at discrete intervals dependent on the battery’s using the five-level battery charging method. To validate the results and design technique, the proposed work is executed by Matrix Laboratory, the obtained output results were extremely gratifying. Further motivated to build a practical working model and verify it with the obtained software values. Both the results were convincing and confirmed to be much faster than the existing schemes.

Magnesium Titanate-based ceramics is one of the popular microwave dielectric materials. These are widely used as dielectrics in resonators and filters for communication, capacitors and radar systems operating at microwave frequencies. The pure and Calcium doped Magnesium Titanate ceramic materials are synthesised by conventional Solid-state route diffusion method. High purity chemicals of MgO, TiO2 and CaO which are taken in according to their compositions for the preparation of Mg1-xCaxTiO3 (x=0,0.1,0.2 and 0.3) ceramics. They are grounded well for 12h in a Ball Mill. Then the powders are calcined at 1175°C to 1200°C for 36h and are pressed into pellets. These pellets are sintered at 1270°C to 1300°C for 6h. The dielectric constant from room temperature to 350°C is calculated using HIOKI 3532-50 LCR HiTESTER in the frequency range of 100Hz-5MHz. The dielectric constant at room temperature at a frequency of 0.1KHz for pure Magnesium Titanate is found to be 14.13 and as the concentration of Calcium increases dielectric constant increases. The AC conductivity and Dielectric loss of the samples are measured. XRD studies revealed that the compound exhibits major phase of MgTiO3 with Hexagonal structure and space group 148: R-3.

Background: Infusion therapy through intravenous (IV) access is a therapeutic option used in the treatment of many hospitalized patients. IV therapy is complex, potentially dangerous and error prone. The objectives were to ascertain the drug-related problems (DRPs) involved in IV medication administration and further to develop strategies to reduce and prevent the occurrence of DRPs during IV administration. Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was carried out for a period of 4 months. Patients receiving more than two medications through IV route were included and studied. Results: Of 110 patients, 76 (69.09%) were male and the rest were female. Nearly, half of the patients (46.3%, n = 51) were reported with DRPs. Of the 80 DRPs (72.72%) documented, 61 problems (55.4%) were seen in patients given IV medications through peripheral line. Among the DRPs majority seen were incompatibilities (40.9%, n = 45), followed by complications developed (12.7%, n = 14), errors in rate of administration (10.9%), and dilution errors (8%). To study the association of DRPs among gender, statistical analysis was performed and significant association was seen between DRPs and gender ( P = 0.03). Conclusion: Among the reported DRPs, simultaneous IV administration of two incompatible drugs was the main predicament faced.

Melothria maderaspatana (Linn) Cogn, a plant drug of Siddha medicine, is an annual monoecious tendril climber, belonging to the family Cucurbitaceae, mostly prevalent in South India. It is commonly called Musumusukkai in Tamil. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the plant revealed the presence of phytochemical constituents such as coumarins, flavonoids. Hence an attempt has been made to screen the effect of Melothria maderaspatana in platelet aggregation. Successive extracts of aerial parts of Melothria maderaspatana were used in increasing polarity of solvents (i.e., hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol). The antiplatelet activity of different fractions of Melothria maderaspatana was studied using platelet-rich plasma in presence of ADP. Each extract was tested in concentrations of 100 µg/ml, 200 µg/ml, 400 µg/ml and 500 µg/ml for the study. The ethyl acetate extract showed a dose-dependent antiplatelet activity. Hexane and methanol extracts showed antiplatelet activity only at 200 µg/ml and 400 µg/ml concentrations. Chloroform extract showed negligible antiplatelet activity. However, the inhibition of platelet aggregation was only 50% when compared to the standard Aspirin.

A viscosimeter of the rotating-cylinder type was used to determine the effect of refractory mill additions on the molten apparent viscosity of steel ground-coat enamel. A blend of three commercial frits was used as the base enamel to study the effect on molten viscosity of various amounts of silica, feldspar; and nepheline syenite. Results indicated that silica imparted the greatest increase in molten viscosity. Additions of feldspar and nepheline syenite of 9% or less increased the molten viscosity about the Same amount. With, however, a 12% addition of refractory, feldspar was more effective for increasing molten viscosity than nepheline syenite.

Titania-opacified cover-coat enamels applied over ground-coated sheet metal are subject to varying amounts of compressive stress. The initial stress as well as the stress after annealing at 550°F. of eight titania-opacified enamels of different fusibilities was investigated by means of expansiometer rings. A general relationship between compressive stress relief due to annealing and fusibility of the enamels was established.
