BackgroundPerimenopausal depression (PMD) is characterized by affective symptoms as well as menopause-specific somatic complaints and has attracted increasing attention over the past few decades. Using a bibliometric tool, this study aims to evaluate the origin, current hotspots, and research trends on PMD.MethodsArticles with research on PMD were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). We used the bibliometric method to analyze publication years, journals, countries, institutions, authors, research hotspots, and trends. We plotted the reference co-citation network and used keywords to analyze the research hotspots and trends.ResultsA total of 209 publications related to PMD were identified from WoSCC on May 8, 2022. The number of publications concerning PMD every year shows an upward trend. Further analysis indicated that 209 articles were contributed by 45 countries, 288 institutions, and 501 authors. The United States contributed the most significant number of publications, followed by China. Harvard University is the core institution of PMD research, and Cohen’s work has had an important impact on another research. The occurrence and pathological mechanisms of depression during the menopausal transition from the knowledge base of PMD. All of them belong to the category of gynecology and psychosis, which reflects the focus of the research topics. Major depression, postmenopausal women, symptoms like hot flashes, and prevalence and risk factors are research hotspots in the PMD field. The frontiers in PMD field that will impact future research are anxiety, meta-analysis, association, and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II).ConclusionThese findings provide us with the core countries, institutions, and authors in PMD research and point out the direction of attention in this field. The current research focuses on depression, postmenopausal women, hot flashes, and other symptoms, as well as the prevalence and risk factors. The frontiers will be anxiety, meta-analysis, related factors, and depression assessment in future research.

Aims: Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a psychiatric condition that is associated with the menstrual cycle. Elucidation of the neural regulation mechanisms of brain reactivity to emotional stimuli among women with PMDD may inform PMDD treatment. Methods: Eighty-six women (42 PMDD, 44 healthy controls) were allocated into two groups (anger-induced group: 23 PMDD vs. 23 controls; depression-induced group: 19 PMDD vs. 21 controls). During the luteal phases of the menstrual cycle, all the women were subjected to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). fMRI resting-state scans were performed before and after the study participants had performed an emotional stimuli task. After the emotional stimuli task, emotional status of the participants were evaluated by Self-Rating Depression Scales (SDS) and Trait Anger Expression Inventory–II (STAXI-II). In addition, all the participants were requested to complete the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and the Twenty-Item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate the neural substrates of processing depression emotion in premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and healthy subjects of college students using blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-fMRI).MethodsDuring BOLD-fMRI scanning, 13 PMS patients and 15 healthy controls (HC) performed a picture visual stimulation task during luteal and follicular phases, in which participants and HC were asked to see pictures containing depression and non-depression emotions. Simultaneously, self-rating depression scales (SDS) were employed to evaluate the emotional status of participants.ResultsCompared to HC, right inferior occipital gyrus, right middle occipital gyrus, right lingual gyrus, right fusiform gyrus, right inferior temporal gyrus, cerebelum_crus1_R, cerebelum_6_R, culmen, the cerebellum anterior lobe, tuber, and cerebellar tonsil of PMS patients showed enhanced activation. In contrast, sub-lobar, sub-gyral, extra-nuclear, right orbit part of superior frontal gyrus, right middle temporal gyrus, right orbit part of inferior frontal gyrus, limbic lobe, right insula, bilateral anterior and adjacent cingulate gyrus, bilateral caudate, caudate head, bilateral putamen, and left globus pallidus exhibited decreased activation.ConclusionThe findings indicate that abnormal functional regulation of brain regions such as occipital lobe and cerebellum leads to abnormal changes in emotional regulation, cognitive ability, and attention distribution in PMS patients, implying significant central pathogenesis.

Shaking table is one of the important equipments for seismic research. It can accurately reproduce the seismic wave in the laboratory to accurately study the structural response. Based on the summary of domestic shaking table and array system control algorithms, the applications of various control algorithms and their advantages and disadvantages are summarized. The development trend of the shaking table control algorithm is analyzed and explained. It can be used as a reference for research on control technology of shaking tables at home and abroad.

This study is to investigate the effect of Paeonia lactiflora extract on PMS anxiety and on expression of estrogen receptor β (ERβ), tryptophan hydroxylase-2 (TPH2), and serotonin transporter (SERT) in the premenstrual syndrome (PMS) anxiety model rats. The vaginal smear and open field test were used to screen rats in nonreception phase of estrus cycle with similar macroscopic behaviors and regular estrus cycle. PMS anxiety model rats were prepared by electrical stimulation. RT-PCR and immunofluorescence were used to measure the expression of ERβ, TPH2, and SERT. Compared with normal rats, the total distance in the open field test of the model rats was significantly increased (P<0.05). The model rats showed nervous alertness, irritability, and sensitivity to external stimuli. After treatment with the Paeonia lactiflora extract, the total distance of rats was significantly reduced (P<0.05). In reception stage, there was no significant difference in the mRNA and protein expression of ERβ, TPH2, and SERT. In nonreception stage, the expression of ERβ and TPH2 in the model group was significantly decreased (P<0.05) as compared with the control group, but not SERT. Abnormal changes of the above indicators were reversed after the administration of the Paeonia lactiflora extract. In conclusion, Paeonia lactiflora extract can increase the expression of ERβ and TPH2 and decrease SERT in PMS model rats, which may be one of the mechanisms underlying the effect of Paeonia lactiflora extract on PMS.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) affects nearly 5% of women of reproductive age. Symptomatic heterogeneity, together with largely unknown genetics, has greatly hindered its effective treatment. In the present study, analysis of genomic sequencing-based copy number variations (CNVs) called from 100 kb white blood cell DNA sequence windows by means of semisupervized clustering led to the segregation of patient genomes into the D and V groups, which correlated with the depression and invasion clinical types, respectively, with 89.0% consistency. Application of diagnostic CNV features selected using the correlation-based machine learning method enabled the classification of the CNVs obtained into the D group, V group, total patient group, and control group with an average accuracy of 83.0%. The power of the diagnostic CNV features was 0.98 on average, suggesting that these CNV features could be used for the molecular diagnosis of the major clinical types of PMDD. This demonstrated concordance between the CNV profiles and clinical types of PMDD supported the validity of symptom-based diagnosis of PMDD for differentiating between its two major clinical types, as well as the predominantly genetic nature of PMDD with a host of overlaps between multiple susceptibility genes/pathways and the diagnostic CNV features as indicators of involvement in PMDD etiology.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) affects nearly 5% women of reproductive age. The symptomatic heterogeneity, along with largely unknown genetics, of PMDD have greatly hindered its effective treatment. In the present study, 127 Chinese PMDD patients of the ‘invasion’ and ‘depression’ subtypes clinically differentiated by us earlier were analyzed together with 108 non-PMDD controls for genome-wide copy number variations (CNVs). Germline genomic DNA samples from white blood cells were subjected to AluScan sequencing-based CNV profiling, which enabled clustering of patient samples readily into the V and D groups, dominated by the “invasion” and “depression” clinical subtypes, respectively; the CNVs obtained with 100-kb windows yielded two clusters that were correlated with these subtypes with a consistency of up to 89.8%. Diagnostic correlation- and frequency-based CNV features of either CNV-gain (CNVG) or CNV-loss (CNVL) that could differentiate between V and D subtypes were selected and analyzed. CNVG features located preferentially in S2-phase replicating regions and enriched with steroid hormone biosynthesis pathway of genes were found protective against PMDD. Moreover, machine learning employing the correlation-based CNV features could predict with >80% accuracy whether a genomic sample was D-type, V-type or control. In terms of their CNV profiles, the D- and V-types differed more from one another than from the controls, thereby providing a genomic basis for the clinical D-V subtyping of PMDD. Genome-wide profiling of CNVs, as a new approach to complex disease genetics, has revealed recurrent CNVs and genomic features beyond individual genes and mutations underlying PMDD clinical diversity.

Objective Although single-nucleotide polymorphisms in GABRB2, the gene encoding for GABAA receptors β2 subunit, have been associated with schizophrenia (SCZ), it is unknown whether there is any association of copy number variations (CNVs) in this gene with either SCZ or premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Methods In this study, the occurrences of the recurrent CNVs esv2730987 in Intron 6 and nsv1177513 in Exon 11 of GABRB2 in Chinese and German SCZ, and Chinese PMDD patients were compared to controls of same ethnicity and gender by quantitative PCR (qPCR). Results The results demonstrated that copy-number-gains were enriched in both SCZ and PMDD patients with significant odds ratios (OR). For combined-gender SCZ patients versus controls, about two-fold increases were observed in both ethnic groups at both esv2730987 (OR = 2.15, p = 5.32E-4 in Chinese group; OR = 2.79, p = 8.84E-3 in German group) and nsv1177513 (OR = 3.29, p = 1.28E-11 in Chinese group; OR = 2.44, p = 6.17E-5 in German group). The most significant copy-number-gains were observed in Chinese females at nsv1177513 (OR = 3.41), and German females at esv2730987 (OR=3.96). Copy-number-gains were also enriched in Chinese PMDD patients versus controls at esv2730987 (OR = 10.53, p = 4.34E-26) and nsv1177513 (OR = 2.39, p = 3.19E-5). Conclusion These findings established for the first time the association of highly recurrent CNVs with SCZ and PMDD, suggesting the presence of an overlapping genetic basis with shared biomarkers for these two common psychiatric disorders.

However, the impact of maternal chronic stress before pregnancy on the progeny of animal models is unknown. We investigated the behaviors and the neurobiology of 60-day-old male offspring of female rats subjected to 21 days of resident-intruder stress before pregnancy. An anger stressed parental rat model was established using the resident-intruder paradigm and it was evaluated using behavioral tests. Anger stressed maternal rats showed a significant increase in locomotion and aggression but a reduction in sucrose preference. Offspring subjected to pre-gestational anger stress displayed enhanced aggressive behaviors, reduced anxiety, and sucrose preference. Further, offspring subjected to pre-gestational stress showed significant impairments in the recognition index (RI) on the object recognition test and the number of platform crossings in the Morris water maze test. The monoaminergic system was significantly altered in pre-gestationally stressed offspring, and the expression of phosphorylated cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein (P-CREB), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and serotonin transporter (SERT) levels in pre-gestational stressed offspring were altered in some brain regions. Fluoxetine was used to treat pre-gestational stressed maternal rats and it significantly reduced the changes caused by stress, as evidenced by both behaviors and neural biochemical indexes in the offspring in some but not all cases. These findings suggest that anger stress before pregnancy could induce aggressive behaviors, cognitive deficits, and neurobiological alterations in offspring.

A neutral pH fluorescent probe (Rh-Met) based on rhodamine spirolactam is firstly developed according to the modulation strategy of hydrogen bonds on pKa values. The pKa value of Rh-Met was 6.81 (±0.06) and higher than that of other rhodamine spirolactams known. Rh-Met showed a 240-fold enhancement of fluorescence intensity at 585 nm with attenuation of pH values from 9.7 to 3.5. In addition, Rh-Met displayed an excellent selectivity and reversible response to hydrogen ion. And it was successfully employed for imaging endocellular hydrogen ion in mitochondria and lipid droplets. These results suggested that Rh-Met could be a potential tool to assess pH fluctuation in mitochondria and lipid droplets, and would promote many new opportunities for studying the biological effect of pH in living cells.

The effects of the Shuyu capsule on5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRexpression in a rat model of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) depression and on5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRexpression and hippocampal neuron 5-HT3channel current were investigated, to elucidate its mechanism of action against PMS depression. PMS depression model rats were divided into depression and Shuyu- and fluoxetine-treated groups, which were compared to control rats for frontal lobe and hippocampal5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRexpression and behavior. The depressed model rats displayed symptoms of depression, which were reduced in treated and normal control rats. Frontal lobe and hippocampal5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRlevels were significantly higher in the model versus the control group and were significantly lower in the Shuyu group. As compared to control rats, the 5-HT3R channel current in the model group was significantly higher; the 5-HT3R channel current in hippocampal neurons treated with serum from Shuyu group rats was significantly lower than that in those treated with model group serum. Thus, PMS depression may be related to5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRexpression and increased 5-HT3channel current. Shuyu capsules rectified abnormal5-HT3ARand5-HT3BRexpression and 5-HT3channel current changes in a rat model; this finding may provide insight into treating PMS depression.

Objective.We discuss the influence of anger emotional stress upon VEGF/VEGFR2 and its induced PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal pathway.Methods.We created a rat model of induced anger (anger-out and anger-in) emotional response using social isolation and resident-intruder paradigms and assessed changes in hippocampus’ VEGF content, neuroplasticity, and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway.Results.The resident-intruder method successfully generated anger-out and anger-in models that differed significantly in composite aggression score, aggression incubation, open field behavior, sucrose preference, and weight gain. Anger emotional stress decreased synaptic connections and VEGFR2 expression. Anger emotional stress led to abnormal expression of VEGF/VEGFR2 mRNA and protein and disorderly expression of key factors in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal pathway. Fluoxetine administration ameliorated behavioral abnormalities and damage to hippocampal neurons caused by anger emotional stress, as well as abnormal expression of some proteins in VEGF/VEGFR2 and its induced PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal pathway.Conclusion.This research provides a detailed classification of anger emotion and verifies its influence upon VEGF and the VEGF-induced signaling pathway, thus providing circumstantial evidence of mechanisms by which anger emotion damages neurogenesis. As VEGFR2 can promote neurogenesis and vasculogenesis in the hippocampus and frontal lobe, these results suggest that anger emotional stress can result in decreased neurogenesis.

Background Epidemiological surveys and studies with animal models have established a relationship between maternal stress and affective disorders in their offspring. However, whether maternal depression before pregnancy influences behaviour and related neurobiological mechanisms in the offspring has not been studied. Results A social defeat stress (SDS) maternal rat model was established using the resident-intruder paradigm with female specific pathogen-free Wistar rats and evaluated with behavioural tests. SDS maternal rats showed a significant reduction in sucrose preference and locomotor and exploratory activities after 4 weeks of stress. In the third week of the experiment, a reduction in body weight gain was observed in SDS animals. Sucrose preference, open field, the elevated-plus maze, light–dark box, object recognition, the Morris water maze, and forced swimming tests were performed using the 2-month-old male offspring of the female SDS rats. Offspring subjected to pre-gestational SDS displayed enhanced anxiety-like behaviours, reduced exploratory behaviours, reduced sucrose preference, and atypical despair behaviours. With regard to cognition, the offspring showed significant impairments in the retention phase of the object recognition test, but no effect was observed in the acquisition phase. These animals also showed impairments in recognition memory, as the discrimination index in the Morris water maze test in this group was significantly lower for both 1 h and 24 h memory retention compared to controls. Corticosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and monoamine neurotransmitters levels were determined using enzyme immunoassays or radioimmunoassays in plasma, hypothalamus, left hippocampus, and left prefrontal cortex samples from the offspring of the SDS rats. These markers of hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis responsiveness and the monoaminergic system were significantly altered in pre-gestationally stressed offspring. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element binding protein (CREB), phosphorylated CREB (pCREB), and serotonin transporter (SERT) protein levels were evaluated using western blotting with right hippocampus and right prefrontal cortex samples. Expression levels of BDNF, pCREB, and SERT in the offspring were also altered in the hippocampus and in the prefrontal cortex; however, there was no effect on CREB. Conclusion We conclude that SDS before pregnancy might induce depressive-like behaviours, cognitive deficits, and neurobiological alterations in the offspring.

The luminescent properties of phosphors are sensitive to their morphologies, particularly to the sizes of phosphor particles. The optimal morphology of the phosphor for the field emission display (FED) is the microsized sphere-like particles. However, less attention has been paid to the phosphors with micron-size controlled particles. In this paper, we reported an improved co-precipitation method to synthesize the red-emitting Y 2 O 3 :Eu 3+ phosphor with the particle sizes controlled in several microns. The optimum phosphors were obtained at the calcination temperature of 1050 °C and pH=5.5, showing the sphere-like particles with the size distribution from 0.9 μm to 3.1 μm. Compared with the commercial phosphors, such optimum phosphors greatly enhance the cathodoluminescent properties and the corresponding luminescence intensity under the low excitation voltage of 1 kV is increased by 50%. Results indicate an effective way to develop the high-quality FED phosphors.

Background Accumulating epidemiological evidence shows that life event stressors are major vulnerability factors for psychiatric diseases such as major depression. It is also well known that the resident intruder paradigm (RIP) results in aggressive behavior in male rats. However, it is not known how resident intruder paradigm-induced aggression affects depressive-like behavior in isolated male rats subjected to chronic mild stress (CMS), which is an animal model of depression. Material and methods Male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: non-stressed controls, isolated rats subjected to the CMS protocol, and resident intruder paradigm-exposed rats subjected to the CMS protocol. Results In the sucrose intake test, ingestion of a 1% sucrose solution by rats in the CMS group was significantly lower than in control and CMS+RIP rats after 3 weeks of stress. In the open-field test, CMS rats had significantly lower open-field scores compared to control rats. Furthermore, the total scores given the CMS group were significantly lower than in the CMS+RIP rats. In the forced swimming test (FST), the immobility times of CMS rats were significantly longer than those of the control or CMS+RIP rats. However, no differences were observed between controls and CMS+RIP rats. Conclusions Our data show that aggressive behavior evoked by the resident intruder paradigm could relieve broad-spectrum depressive-like behaviors in isolated adult male rats subjected to CMS.

The structure and magnetic properties of ferromagnetic Tbi-xGdxFe2 system have been studied through the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), a phase boundary between two ferroic phases of different crystal symmetry. Morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) has been studied extensively for its extraordinary enhancement effect in ferroelectrics. Based on same mechanism, we have designed a pseudobinary ferromagnetic system Tb1-xGdxFe2, of which the near-MPB composition Tb1-xGdxFe2 shows maximum magnetization under small field, and meanwhile dramatically the low magnetostriction. With synchrotron x-ray diffractometry, the crystal structure of TbFe2-rich compositions is detected to be rhombohedral and that of GdFe2-rich compositions is tetragonal below their curie temperatures. The near MPB composition Tb0.1Gd0.9Fe2, shows the maximum magnetization among all available compositions and superposition of magnetostriction behavior of R and T phases. To find MPB phenomena in ferromagnets may provide a new route to design functional materials in other ferroic MPB systems.

The magnetic and magnetostrictive properties of polycrystalline alloys Tbi-xGdxFe2 (0≤x≤1) have been investigated. The curie temperature of Tb1−xGdxFe2 increases while room temperature saturation magnitization Ms decreases monotonously with increasing Gd concentration. Furthermore the magnetostriction coefficient λ111 decrease as Gd content increases for Tb1−xGdxFe2 compounds. The decreasing of anisotropy results in small increase in the magnetostriction at low magnetic fields for Tb0.2Gd0.8Fe2.

Physically parallel to ferroelectric morphotropic phase boundary, a phase boundary separating two ferromagnetic phase of different crystallographic symmetries was found in TbxDy1-xCo2. High-resolution synchrotron XRD has been carried out to offer experimental evidence for TbxDy1-xCo2. It has been proved that TbxDy1-xCo2 (0.60.7) phase is distorted from a Laves Phase. Here, a first principles calculation provides a theoretical explanation on the origin of MBP in TbxDy1-xCo2 and is also provided for the question of why MPB occurs in TbxDy1-xCo2 alloys.
