We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the decay $B\rightarrow D^\ast\ellν$ at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of asqtad sea quarks, with a strange quark mass close to its physical mass. The lattice spacings range from $a\approx 0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm, while the ratio between the light- and the strange-quark masses ranges from 0.05 to 0.4. The valence $b$ and $c$ quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point in the continuum limit using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. Then we apply a model-independent parametrization to extend the form factors to the full kinematic range. With this parametrization we perform a joint lattice-QCD/experiment fit using several experimental datasets to determine the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|$. We obtain $\left|V_{cb}\right| = (38.40 \pm 0.68_{\textrm{th}} \pm 0.34_{\textrm{exp}} \pm 0.18_{\textrm{EM}})\times 10^{-3}$. The first error is theoretical, the second comes from experiment and the last one includes electromagnetic and electroweak uncertainties, with an overall $χ^2\text{/dof} = 126/84$, which illustrates the tensions between the experimental data sets, and between theory and experiment. This result is in agreement with previous exclusive determinations, but the tension with the inclusive determination remains. Finally, we integrate the differential decay rate obtained solely from lattice data to predict $R(D^\ast) = 0.265 \pm 0.013$, which confirms the current tension between theory and experiment., 46 pages, 14 figures. The current status of the lattice-QCD calculations of the form factors of the $B\to D^\ast\ell��$ semileptonic decay is reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to the most mature calculation at non-zero recoil coming from the Fermilab Lattice and MILC collaborations. Blinded, preliminary results for the form factors are shown, including a preliminary, but detailed error budget. The lattice results seem to favor a large slope at small recoil, in contrast to the latest untagged results coming from the Belle collaboration. A comprehensive comparison between the latest BGL $z$ expansions of Belle, Babar, the lattice and a joint BGL fit including lattice and Belle data is presented, and a roadmap to improve the current calculation is discussed. We discuss preliminary results for the vector form factors $f_+^{\{\pi,K\}}$ at zero-momentum transfer for the decays $D\to\pi\ell\nu$ and $D\to K \ell\nu$ using MILC's $N_f = 2+1+1$ HISQ ensembles at four lattice spacings, $a \approx 0.042, 0.06, 0.09$, and 0.12 fm, and various HISQ quark masses down to the (degenerate) physical light quark mass. We use the kinematic constraint $f_+(q^2)= f_0(q^2)$ at $q^2 = 0$ to determine the vector form factor from our study of the scalar current, which yields $f_0(0)$. Results are extrapolated to the continuum physical point in the framework of hard pion/kaon SU(3) heavy-meson-staggered $\chi$PT and Symanzik effective theory. Our calculation improves upon the precision achieved in existing lattice-QCD calculations of the vector form factors at $q^2=0$. We use lattice QCD to calculate the form factors $f_+(q^2)$ and $f_0(q^2)$ for the semileptonic decay $B_s\to K\ell��$. Our calculation uses six MILC asqtad 2+1 flavor gauge-field ensembles with three lattice spacings. At the smallest and largest lattice spacing the light-quark sea mass is set to 1/10 the strange-quark mass. At the intermediate lattice spacing, we use four values for the light-quark sea mass ranging from 1/5 to 1/20 of the strange-quark mass. We use the asqtad improved staggered action for the light valence quarks, and the clover action with the Fermilab interpolation for the heavy valence bottom quark. We use SU(2) hard-kaon heavy-meson rooted staggered chiral perturbation theory to take the chiral-continuum limit. A functional $z$ expansion is used to extend the form factors to the full kinematic range. We present predictions for the differential decay rate for both $B_s\to K����$ and $B_s\to K����$. We also present results for the forward-backward asymmetry, the lepton polarization asymmetry, ratios of the scalar and vector form factors for the decays $B_s\to K\ell��$ and $B_s\to D_s \ell��$. Our results, together with future experimental measurements, can be used to determine the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{ub}|$., 57 pages, 22 figures, 13 tables

Using HISQ $N_f=2+1+1$ MILC ensembles with five different values of the lattice spacing, including four ensembles with physical quark masses, we have performed the most precise computation to date of the $K\to\pi\ell\nu$ vector form factor at zero momentum transfer, $f_+^{K^0\pi^-}(0)=0.9696(15)_\text{stat}(12)_\text{syst}$. This is the first calculation that includes the dominant finite-volume effects, as calculated in chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order. Our result for the form factor provides a direct determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{us}|=0.22333(44)_{f_+(0)}(42)_\text{exp}$, with a theory error that is, for the first time, at the same level as the experimental error. The uncertainty of the semileptonic determination is now similar to that from leptonic decays and the ratio $f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+}$, which uses $|V_{ud}|$ as input. Our value of $|V_{us}|$ is in tension at the 2--$2.6\sigma$ level both with the determinations from leptonic decays and with the unitarity of the CKM matrix. In the test of CKM unitarity in the first row, the current limiting factor is the error in $|V_{ud}|$, although a recent determination of the nucleus-independent radiative corrections to superallowed nuclear $\beta$ decays could reduce the $|V_{ud}|^2$ uncertainty nearly to that of $|V_{us}|^2$. Alternative unitarity tests using only kaon decays, for which improvements in the theory and experimental inputs are likely in the next few years, reveal similar tensions. As part of our analysis, we calculated the correction to $f_+^{K\pi}(0)$ due to nonequilibrated topological charge at leading order in chiral perturbation theory, for both the full-QCD and the partially-quenched cases. We also obtain the combination of low-energy constants in the chiral effective Lagrangian $[C_{12}^r+C_{34}^r-(L_5^r)^2](M_\rho)=(2.92\pm0.31)\cdot10^{-6}$., Comment: 42 pages and 12 figures. We describe a recent lattice-QCD calculation of the leptonic decay constants of heavy-light pseudoscalar mesons containing charm and bottom quarks and of the masses of the up, down, strange, charm, and bottom quarks. Results for these quantities are of the highest precision to date. Calculations use 24 isospin-symmetric ensembles of gauge-field configurations with six different lattice spacings as small as approximately 0.03 fm and several values of the light quark masses down to physical values of the average up- and down-sea-quark masses. We use the highly-improved staggered quark (HISQ) formulation for valence and sea quarks, including the bottom quark. The analysis employs heavy-quark effective theory (HQET). We calculate in three-flavor lattice QCD the short-distance hadronic matrix elements of all five $\Delta C=2$ four-fermion operators that contribute to neutral $D$-meson mixing both in and beyond the Standard Model. We use the MILC Collaboration's $N_f = 2+1$ lattice gauge-field configurations generated with asqtad-improved staggered sea quarks. We also employ the asqtad action for the valence light quarks and use the clover action with the Fermilab interpretation for the charm quark. We analyze a large set of ensembles with pions as light as $M_\pi \approx 180$ MeV and lattice spacings as fine as $a\approx 0.045$ fm, thereby enabling good control over the extrapolation to the physical pion mass and continuum limit. We obtain for the matrix elements in the $\overline{\text{MS}}$-NDR scheme using the choice of evanescent operators proposed by Beneke \emph{et al.}, evaluated at 3 GeV, $\langle D^0|\mathcal{O}_i|\bar{D}^0 \rangle = \{0.0805(55)(16), -0.1561(70)(31), 0.0464(31)(9), 0.2747(129)(55), 0.1035(71)(21)\}~\text{GeV}^4$ ($i=1$--5). The errors shown are from statistics and lattice systematics, and the omission of charmed sea quarks, respectively. To illustrate the utility of our matrix-element results, we place bounds on the scale of CP-violating new physics in $D^0$~mixing, finding lower limits of about 10--50$\times 10^3$ TeV for couplings of $\mathrm{O}(1)$. To enable our results to be employed in more sophisticated or model-specific phenomenological studies, we provide the correlations among our matrix-element results. Using the MILC 2+1 flavor asqtad quark action ensembles, we are calculating the form factors $f_0$ and $f_+$ for the semileptonic $B_s \rightarrow K \ell��$ decay. A total of six ensembles with lattice spacing from $\approx0.12$ to 0.06 fm are being used. At the coarsest and finest lattice spacings, the light quark mass $m'_l$ is one-tenth the strange quark mass $m'_s$. At the intermediate lattice spacing, the ratio $m'_l/m'_s$ ranges from 0.05 to 0.2. The valence $b$ quark is treated using the Sheikholeslami-Wohlert Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation. The other valence quarks use the asqtad action. We present preliminary results from our analysis of the form factors for the $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^\ast\ell\overline��$ decay at non-zero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of sea quarks and lattice spacings ranging from $a\approx 0.15$ fm down to $0.045$ fm. The valence light quarks employ the asqtad action, whereas the heavy quarks are treated using the Fermilab action. We conclude with a discussion of future plans and phenomenological implications. The MILC Collaboration has completed production running of electromagnetic effects on light mesons using asqtad improved staggered quarks. In these calculations, we use quenched photons in the noncompact formalism. We study four lattice spacings from $\approx\!0.12\:$fm to $\approx\!0.045\:$fm. To study finite-volume effects, we used six spatial lattice sizes $L/a=12$, 16, 20, 28, 40, and 48, at $a\!\approx\!0.12\:$fm. We present a progress report on our calculation of the decay constants $f_B$ and $f_{B_s}$ from lattice-QCD simulations with highly-improved staggered quarks. Simulations are carried out with several heavy valence-quark masses on $(2+1+1)$-flavor ensembles that include charm sea quarks. We include data at six lattice spacings and several light sea-quark masses, including an approximately physical-mass ensemble at all but the smallest lattice spacing, 0.03 fm. This range of parameters provides excellent control of the continuum extrapolation to zero lattice spacing and of heavy-quark discretization errors. Finally, using the heavy-quark effective theory expansion we present a method of extracting from the same correlation functions the charm- and bottom-quark masses as well as some low-energy constants appearing in the heavy-quark expansion., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, Lattice 2016

We calculate---for the first time in three-flavor lattice QCD---the hadronic matrix elements of all five local operators that contribute to neutral $B^0$- and $B_s$-meson mixing in and beyond the Standard Model. We present a complete error budget for each matrix element and also provide the full set of correlations among the matrix elements. We also present the corresponding bag parameters and their correlations, as well as specific combinations of the mixing matrix elements that enter the expression for the neutral $B$-meson width difference. We obtain the most precise determination to date of the SU(3)-breaking ratio $\xi = 1.206(18)(6)$, where the second error stems from the omission of charm sea quarks, while the first encompasses all other uncertainties. The threefold reduction in total uncertainty, relative to the 2013 Flavor Lattice Averaging Group results, tightens the constraint from $B$ mixing on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) unitarity triangle. Our calculation employs gauge-field ensembles generated by the MILC Collaboration with four lattice spacings and pion masses close to the physical value. We use the asqtad-improved staggered action for the light valence quarks, and the Fermilab method for the bottom quark. We use heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory modified to include lattice-spacing effects to extrapolate the five matrix elements to the physical point. We combine our results with experimental measurements of the neutral $B$-meson oscillation frequencies to determine the CKM matrix elements $|V_{td}| = 8.00(34)(8) \times 10^{-3}$, $|V_{ts}| = 39.0(1.2)(0.4) \times 10^{-3}$, and $|V_{td}/V_{ts}| = 0.2052(31)(10)$, which differ from CKM-unitarity expectations by about 2$\sigma$. These results and others from flavor-changing-neutral currents point towards an emerging tension between weak processes that are mediated at the loop and tree levels., Comment: 75 pp, 17 figs. We report on a calculation of the B*Bpi coupling in lattice QCD. The strong matrix element for a B* to Bpi transition is directly related to the leading order low-energy constant in heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT) for B mesons. We carry out our calculation directly at the b-quark mass using a non-perturbatively tuned clover action that controls discretization effects of order pa and (ma)^n for all n. Our analysis is performed on RBC/UKQCD gauge configurations using domain-wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action at two lattice spacings of ainverse = 1.729(25) GeV, ainverse = 2.281(28) GeV, and unitary pion masses down to 290 MeV. We achieve good statistical precision and control all systematic uncertainties, giving a final result for the HMChPT coupling g_b = 0.56(3)stat(7)sys in the continuum and at the physical light-quark masses. This is the first calculation performed directly at the physical b-quark mass and lies in the region one would expect from carrying out an interpolation between previous results at the charm mass and at the static point., Comment: Postprint: version accepted for publication

We compute the form factors for the $B \to Kl^+l^-$ semileptonic decay process in lattice QCD using gauge-field ensembles with 2+1 flavors of sea quark, generated by the MILC Collaboration. The ensembles span lattice spacings from 0.12 to 0.045 fm and have multiple sea-quark masses to help control the chiral extrapolation. The asqtad improved staggered action is used for the light valence and sea quarks, and the clover action with the Fermilab interpretation is used for the heavy $b$ quark. We present results for the form factors $f_+(q^2)$, $f_0(q^2)$, and $f_T(q^2)$, where $q^2$ is the momentum transfer, together with a comprehensive examination of systematic errors. Lattice QCD determines the form factors for a limited range of $q^2$, and we use the model-independent $z$ expansion to cover the whole kinematically allowed range. We present our final form-factor results as coefficients of the $z$ expansion and the correlations between them, where the errors on the coefficients include statistical and all systematic uncertainties. We use this complete description of the form factors to test QCD predictions of the form factors at high and low $q^2$. We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the hadronic form factors for the exclusive decay $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell \overline��$ at nonzero recoil. We carry out numerical simulations on fourteen ensembles of gauge-field configurations generated with 2+1 flavors of asqtad-improved staggered sea quarks. The ensembles encompass a wide range of lattice spacings (approximately 0.045 to 0.12 fm) and ratios of light (up and down) to strange sea-quark masses ranging from 0.05 to 0.4. For the $b$ and $c$ valence quarks we use improved Wilson fermions with the Fermilab interpretation, while for the light valence quarks we use asqtad-improved staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. We then parameterize the form factors and extend them to the full kinematic range using model-independent functions based on analyticity and unitarity. We present our final results for $f_+(q^2)$ and $f_0(q^2)$, including statistical and systematic errors, as coefficients of a series in the variable $z$ and the covariance matrix between these coefficients. We then fit the lattice form-factor data jointly with the experimentally measured differential decay rate from BaBar to determine the CKM matrix element, $|V_{cb}|=(39.6 \pm 1.7_{\rm QCD+exp} \pm 0.2_{\rm QED})\times 10^{-3}$. As a byproduct of the joint fit we obtain the form factors with improved precision at large recoil. Finally, we use them to update our calculation of the ratio $R(D)$ in the Standard Model, which yields $R(D) = 0.299(11)$., 47 pages, 32 figures

We calculate the $B \to��\ell��$ and $B_s \to K \ell��$ form factors in dynamical lattice QCD. We use the (2+1)-flavor RBC-UKQCD gauge-field ensembles generated with the domain-wall fermion and Iwasaki gauge actions. For the $b$ quarks we use the anisotropic clover action with a relativistic heavy-quark interpretation. We analyze two lattice spacings $a \approx 0.11, 0.086$ fm and unitary pion masses as light as $M_��\approx 290$ MeV. We simultaneously extrapolate our numerical results to the physical light-quark masses and to the continuum and interpolate in the pion/kaon energy using SU(2) "hard-pion" chiral perturbation theory. We provide complete error budgets for the form factors $f_+(q^2)$ and $f_0(q^2)$ at three momenta that span the $q^2$ range accessible in our numerical simulations. We extrapolate these results to $q^2 = 0$ using a model-independent $z$-parametrization and present our final form factors as the $z$-coefficients and the matrix of correlations between them. Our results agree with other lattice determinations using staggered light quarks and provide important independent cross-checks. Both $B \to��\ell��$ and $B_s \to K \ell��$ decays enable a determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. To illustrate this, we perform a combined $z$-fit of our numerical $B\to��\ell��$ form-factor data with the experimental branching-fraction measurements leaving the relative normalization as a free parameter; we obtain $|V_{ub}| = 3.61(32) \times 10^{-3}$, where the error includes statistical and systematic uncertainties. This approach can be applied to $B_s\to K \ell��$ decay to determine $|V_{ub}|$ once the process has been measured experimentally. We present a lattice-QCD calculation of the $B\to��\ell��$ semileptonic form factors and a new determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. We use the MILC asqtad 2+1-flavor lattice configurations at four lattice spacings and light-quark masses down to 1/20 of the physical strange-quark mass. We extrapolate the lattice form factors to the continuum using staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard-pion and SU(2) limits. We employ a model-independent $z$ parameterization to extrapolate our lattice form factors from large-recoil momentum to the full kinematic range. We introduce a new functional method to propagate information from the chiral-continuum extrapolation to the $z$ expansion. We present our results together with a complete systematic error budget, including a covariance matrix to enable the combination of our form factors with other lattice-QCD and experimental results. To obtain $|V_{ub}|$, we simultaneously fit the experimental data for the $B\to��\ell��$ differential decay rate obtained by the BaBar and Belle collaborations together with our lattice form-factor results. We find $|V_{ub}|=(3.72\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-3}$ where the error is from the combined fit to lattice plus experiments and includes all sources of uncertainty. Our form-factor results bring the QCD error on $|V_{ub}|$ to the same level as the experimental error. We also provide results for the $B\to��\ell��$ vector and scalar form factors obtained from the combined lattice and experiment fit, which are more precisely-determined than from our lattice-QCD calculation alone. The rare decay $B\to��\ell^+\ell^-$ arises from $b\to d$ flavor-changing neutral currents and could be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. Here, we present the first $ab$-$initio$ QCD calculation of the $B\to��$ tensor form factor $f_T$. Together with the vector and scalar form factors $f_+$ and $f_0$ from our companion work [J. A. Bailey $et~al.$, Phys. Rev. D 92, 014024 (2015)], these parameterize the hadronic contribution to $B\to��$ semileptonic decays in any extension of the Standard Model. We obtain the total branching ratio ${\text{BR}}(B^+\to��^+��^+��^-)=20.4(2.1)\times10^{-9}$ in the Standard Model, which is the most precise theoretical determination to date, and agrees with the recent measurement from the LHCb experiment [R. Aaij $et~al.$, JHEP 1212, 125 (2012)]. Note added: after this paper was submitted for publication, LHCb announced a new measurement of the differential decay rate for this process [T. We present a study of the $D$ and $B$ leptonic decay constants on the MILC $N_f=2+1$ asqtad gauge ensembles using asqtad-improved staggered light quarks and clover heavy quarks in the Fermilab interpretation. Our previous analysis \cite{Bazavov:2011aa} computed the decay constants at lattice spacings $a \approx 0.14, 0.11$ and $0.083$ fm. We have extended the simulations to finer $a \approx 0.058$ and $0.043$ fm lattice spacings, and have also increased statistics; this allows us to address many important sources of uncertainty. Technical advances include a two-step two-point fit procedure, better tuning of the heavy quark masses and a better determination of the axial-vector current matching. The present analysis remains blinded, so here we focus on the improvements and their predicted impact on the error budget compared to the prior analysis., Comment: LATTICE 2013; added missing .bbl file

We present an update on our calculation of the short-distance $D^0$-meson mixing hadronic matrix elements. The analysis is performed on the MILC collaboration's $N_f=2+1$ asqtad configurations. We use asqtad light valence quarks and the Sheikoleslami-Wohlert action with the Fermilab interpretation for the valence charm quark. SU(3), partially quenched, rooted, staggered heavy-meson chiral perturbation theory is used to extrapolate to the chiral-continuum limit. Systematic errors arising from the chiral-continuum extrapolation, heavy-quark discretization, and quark-mass uncertainties are folded into the statistical errors from the chiral-continuum fits with methods of Bayesian inference. We compute the $B\to��\ell��$ semileptonic form factors and update the determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. We use the MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ sea quarks at four different lattice spacings in the range $a \approx 0.045$~fm to $0.12$~fm. The lattice form factors are extrapolated to the continuum limit using SU(2) staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard pion limit, followed by an extrapolation in $q^2$ to the full kinematic range using a functional $z$-parameterization. The extrapolation is combined with the experimental measurements of the partial branching fraction to extract $|V_{ub}|$. We compute the zero-recoil form factor for the semileptonic decay $\bar{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\bar��$ (and modes related by isospin and charge conjugation) using lattice QCD with three flavors of sea quarks. We use an improved staggered action for the light valence and sea quarks (the MILC \asqtad\ configurations), and the Fermilab action for the heavy quarks. Our calculations incorporate higher statistics, finer lattice spacings, and lighter quark masses than our 2008 work. As a byproduct of tuning the new data set, we obtain the $D_s$ and $B_s$ hyperfine splittings with few-MeV accuracy. For the zero-recoil form factor, we obtain $\mathcal{F}(1)=0.906(4)(12)$, where the first error is statistical and the second is the sum in quadrature of all systematic errors. With the latest HFAG average of experimental results and a cautious treatment of QED effects, we find $|V_{cb}| = (39.04 \pm 0.49_\text{expt} \pm 0.53_\text{QCD} \pm 0.19_\text{QED})\times10^{-3}$. We report on the calculation by the MILC Collaboration of the electromagnetic effects on kaon and pion masses. These masses are computed in QCD with dynamical (asqtad staggered) quarks plus quenched photons at three lattice spacings varying from 0.12 to 0.06 fm. The masses are fit to staggered chiral perturbation theory with NLO electromagnetic terms, as well as analytic terms at higher order. We extrapolate the results to physical light-quark masses and to the continuum limit. At the current stage of the analysis, most, but not all, of the systematic errors have been estimated. The main goal is the comparison of kaon electromagnetic splittings to those of the pion, i.e., an evaluation of the corrections to "Dashen's theorem." We update the lattice calculation of the $B\to��$ semileptonic form factors, which have important applications to the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ and the $B\to��\ell^+\ell^-$ rare decay. We use MILC asqtad ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ sea quarks and over a range of lattice spacings $a \approx 0.045$--$0.12$ fm. We perform a combined chiral and continuum extrapolation of our lattice data using SU(2) staggered chiral perturbation theory in the hard pion limit. To extend the results for the form factors to the full kinematic range, we take a functional approach to parameterize the form factors using the Bourrely-Caprini-Lellouch formalism in a model-independent way. We calculate the kaon semileptonic form factor $f_+(0)$ from lattice QCD, working, for the first time, at the physical light-quark masses. We use gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration with $N_f=2+1+1$ flavors of sea quarks, which incorporate the effects of dynamical charm quarks as well as those of up, down, and strange. We employ data at three lattice spacings to extrapolate to the continuum limit. Our result, $f_+(0) = 0.9704(32)$, where the error is the total statistical plus systematic uncertainty added in quadrature, is the most precise determination to date. Combining our result with the latest experimental measurements of $K$ semileptonic decays, one obtains the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{us}|=0.22290(74)(52)$, where the first error is from $f_+(0)$ and the second one is from experiment. In the first-row test of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity, the error stemming from $|V_{us}|$ is now comparable to that from $|V_{ud}|$., 6 pages, 2 figures; version published in PRL

We calculate the form factors for the semileptonic decays $B_s\to K\ell\nu$ and $B\to K\ell\ell$ with lattice QCD. We work at several lattice spacings and a range of light quark masses, using the MILC 2+1-flavor asqtad ensembles. We use the Fermilab method for the $b$ quark. We obtain chiral-continuum extrapolations for $E_K$ up to $\sim1.2$ GeV and then extend to the entire kinematic range with the model-independent $z$ expansion., Comment: 7. pp, 6 figs. A calculation of the ratio of leptonic decay constants f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+} makes possible a precise determination of the ratio of CKM matrix elements |V_{us}|/|V_{ud}| in the Standard Model, and places a stringent constraint on the scale of new physics that would lead to deviations from unitarity in the first row of the CKM matrix. We compute f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+} numerically in unquenched lattice QCD using gauge-field ensembles recently generated that include four flavors of dynamical quarks: up, down, strange, and charm. We analyze data at four lattice spacings a ~ 0.06, 0.09, 0.12, and 0.15 fm with simulated pion masses down to the physical value 135 MeV. We obtain f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+} = 1.1947(26)(37), where the errors are statistical and total systematic, respectively. This is our first physics result from our N_f = 2+1+1 ensembles, and the first calculation of f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+} from lattice-QCD simulations at the physical point. Our result is the most precise lattice-QCD determination of f_{K^+}/f_{\pi^+}, with an error comparable to the current world average. We present the status of our calculation of hadronic matrix elements for $D$- and $B$-meson mixing. We use a large set of the MILC collaboration's $N_f=2+1$ asqtad ensembles, which includes lattice spacings in the range $a\approx0.12$-0.045 fm, and up/down to strange quark mass ratios as low as 0.05. The asqtad action is also employed for the light valence quarks. For the heavy quarks we use the Sheikholeslami-Wohlert action with the Fermilab interpretation. Our calculation covers the complete set of five local operators needed to describe $B$-meson mixing in the Standard Model and Beyond. In the charm sector, our calculation of local mixing matrix elements may be used to constrain new physics models. We present results for the form factor $f_+^{K \pi}(0)$, needed to extract the CKM matrix element $|V_{us}|$ from experimental data on semileptonic $K$ decays, on the HISQ $N_f=2+1+1$ MILC configurations. The HISQ action is also used for the valence sector. The data set used for our final result includes three different values of the lattice spacing and data at the physical light quark masses. This is the report of the Computing Frontier working group on Lattice Field Theory prepared for the proceedings of the 2013 Community Summer Study ("Snowmass"). We present the future computing needs and plans of the U.S. lattice gauge theory community and argue that continued support of the U.S. (and worldwide) lattice-QCD effort is essential to fully capitalize on the enormous investment in the high-energy physics experimental program. We first summarize the dramatic progress of numerical lattice-QCD simulations in the past decade, with some emphasis on calculations carried out under the auspices of the U.S. Lattice-QCD Collaboration, and describe a broad program of lattice-QCD calculations that will be relevant for future experiments at the intensity and energy frontiers. We report on a calculation of the $B^*B��$ coupling in lattice QCD. The strong matrix element $\langle B ��| B^*\rangle$ is directly related to the leading order low-energy constant in heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HM$��$PT) for $B$-mesons. We carry out our calculation directly at the $b$-quark mass using a non-perturbatively tuned clover action that controls discretisation effects of order $|\vec{p}a|$ and $(ma)^n$ for all $n$. Our analysis is performed on RBC/UKQCD gauge configurations using domain wall fermions and the Iwasaki gauge action at two lattice spacings of $a^{-1}=1.73(3)$ GeV, $a^{-1}=2.28(3)$ GeV, and unitary pion masses down to 290 MeV. We achieve good statistical precision and control all systematic uncertainties, giving a final result for the HM$��$PT coupling $g_b = 0.569(48)_{stat}(59)_{sys}$ in the continuum and at the physical light-quark masses. We study SU(3)-breaking effects in the neutral B_d-\bar B_d and B_s-\bar B_s systems with unquenched N_f=2+1 lattice QCD. We calculate the relevant matrix elements on the MILC collaboration's gauge configurations with asqtad-improved staggered sea quarks. For the valence light-quarks (u, d, and s) we use the asqtad action, while for b quarks we use the Fermilab action. We obtain ��=f_{B_s}\sqrt{B_{B_s}}/f_{B_d}\sqrt{B_{B_d}}=1.268+-0.063. We also present results for the ratio of bag parameters B_{B_s}/B_{B_d} and the ratio of CKM matrix elements |V_{td}|/|V_{ts}|. Although we focus on the calculation of ��, the strategy and techniques described here will be employed in future extended studies of the B mixing parameters ��M_{d,s} and ����_{d,s} in the Standard Model and beyond., 36 pages, 7 figures

We calculate form-factor ratios between the semileptonic decays \bar{B}->D^+\ell^-\bar�� and \bar{B}_s->D_s^+\ell^-\bar�� with lattice QCD. These ratios are a key theoretical input in a new strategy to determine the fragmentation fractions of the neutral B decays, which are needed for measurements of BR(B^0_s-> ��^+��^-). We use the MILC ensembles of gauge configurations with 2+1 flavors of sea quarks at two lattice spacings of approximately 0.12 fm and 0.09 fm. We use the model-independent z-parametrization to extrapolate our simulation results at small recoil toward maximum recoil. Our results for the form-factor ratios are $f_0^{(s)}(M^2_��)/f_0^{(d)}(M^2_K) =1.046(44)_{stat.}(15)_{syst.}$ and $f_0^{(s)}(M^2_��)/f_0^{(d)}(M^2_��)=1.054(47)_{stat.}(17)_{syst.}$. In contrast to a QCD sum-rule calculation, no significant departure from U-spin (ds) symmetry is observed., 30 pages, 11 figures. Fig. 1 updated. Table II added. The semileptonic decay channel B -> D tau nu is sensitive to the presence of a scalar current, such as that mediated by a charged-Higgs boson. Recently the BaBar experiment reported the first observation of the exclusive semileptonic decay B -> D tau nu, finding an approximately 2-sigma disagreement with the Standard-Model prediction for the ratio R(D)=BR(B->D tau nu)/BR(B->D l nu), where l=e,mu. We compute this ratio of branching fractions using hadronic form factors computed in unquenched lattice QCD and obtain R(D) = 0.316(12)(7), where the errors are statistical and total systematic, respectively. This result is the first Standard-Model calculation of R(D) from ab initio full QCD. Its error is smaller than that of previous estimates, primarily due to the reduced uncertainty in the scalar form factor f_0(q^2). Our determination of R(D) is approximately 1-sigma higher than previous estimates and, thus, reduces the tension with experiment. We also compute R(D) in models with electrically charged scalar exchange, such as the type II two-Higgs doublet model. Once again, our result is consistent with, but approximately 1-sigma higher than, previous estimates for phenomenologically relevant values of the scalar coupling in the type II model. As a byproduct of our calculation, we also present the Standard-Model prediction for the longitudinal polarization ratio P_L (D)= 0.325(4)(3)., 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. References and text added. We present an update of the Fermilab-MILC Collaboration's calculation of hadronic matrix elements for B^0-\bar{B^0} mixing. This work is a more extended analysis than our recent publication of the SU(3)-breaking ratio xi [arXiv:1205.7013]. We use the asqtad staggered action for light valence quarks in combination with the Fermilab interpretation of the Sheikoleslami-Wohlert action for heavy quarks. The calculations use MILC's 2+1 flavor asqtad ensembles. Ensembles include four lattice spacings from approximately 0.125 fm to 0.045 fm and up/down to strange quark mass ratios as low as 0.05. Our calculation covers the complete set of five operators needed to describe B mixing in the Standard Model and beyond. We present our methods to fit the two point correlators for light, strange, and charmed pseudoscalar meson physics with the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action. We make use of the least-squares fit including the full covariance matrix of the correlators and including Gaussian constraints on some parameters. We fit the correlators on a variety of the HISQ ensembles. The lattice spacing ranges from 0.15 fm down to 0.06 fm. The light sea quark mass ranges from 0.2 times the strange quark mass down to the physical light quark mass. The HISQ ensembles also include lattices with different volumes and with unphysical values of the strange quark mass. We use the results from this work to obtain our preliminary results of $f_D$, $f_{D_s}$, $f_{D_s}/f_{D}$, and ratios of quark masses presented in another talk [1]., Comment: Proceedings of Lattice 2012 Int. We present results from our simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) with four flavors of quarks: u, d, s, and c. These simulations are performed with a one-loop Symanzik improved gauge action, and the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action. We are generating gauge configurations with four values of the lattice spacing ranging from 0.06 fm to 0.15 fm, and three values of the light quark mass, including the value for which the Goldstone pion mass is equal to the physical pion mass. We discuss simulation algorithms, scale setting, taste symmetry breaking, and the autocorrelations of various quantities. We report on the status of our kaon semileptonic form factor calculations using the highly-improved staggered quark (HISQ) formulation to simulate the valence fermions. We present results for the form factor f_+^{K \pi}(0) on the asqtad N_f=2+1 MILC configurations, discuss the chiral-continuum extrapolation, and give a preliminary estimate of the total error. We also present a more preliminary set of results for the same form factor but with the sea quarks also simulated with the HISQ action; these results include data at the physical light quark masses. We fit lattice-QCD data for light-pseudoscalar masses and decay constants, from HISQ configurations generated by MILC, to SU(3) staggered chiral perturbation theory. At present such fits have rather high values of chi^2/d.o.f., possibly due to the lack of ensembles with lighter-than-physical sea strange-quark masses. We propose solutions to this problem for future work. We give an update on simulation results for the decay constants f_B, f_{B_s}, f_D and f_{D_s}. These decay constants are important for precision tests of the standard model, in particular entering as inputs to the global CKM unitarity triangle fit. The results presented here make use of the MILC (2+1)-flavor asqtad ensembles, with heavy quarks incorporated using the clover action with the Fermilab method. Partially quenched, staggered chiral perturbation theory is used to extract the decay constants at the physical point. We present an update of our calculation of the form factor for B -> D* l nu at zero recoil, with higher statistics and finer lattices. As before, we use the Fermilab action for b and c quarks, the asqtad staggered action for light valence quarks, and the MILC ensembles for gluons and light quarks (L��scher-Weisz married to 2+1 rooted staggered sea quarks). In this update, we have reduced the total uncertainty on F(1) from 2.6% to 1.7%. The experimentally measured rates of the semileptonic decays K -> pi l nu and D -> K(pi) l nu can be combined with lattice calculations of the associated form factors to precisely extract the CKM matrix elements |V_{us}| and |V_{cs(d)}|. We report on the status of form factor calculations with Fermilab charm quarks and staggered light quarks on the 2+1 flavor asqtad staggered MILC ensembles. Analysis of data for the D -> pi l nu form factor provides a nontrivial test of our methods via comparison with CLEO data. We describe recent progress on generation of gauge configurations using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) action that was designed by the HPQCD/UKQCD collaboration. The HISQ action requires two levels of smearing with a reunitarization of the links before the second smearing. We describe how we deal with the occurrence of occasional large forces arising from the reunitarization step. The MILC collaboration is currently generating ensembles with approximate lattice spacings of 0.15, 0.12, 0.09, and 0.06 fm, with the strange and charm quark masses close to their physical values and the mass of the light quarks m_l set to 0.2 m_s. We present the leptonic decay constants fDs and fD+ computed on the MILC collaboration's 2+1 flavor asqtad gauge ensembles. We use clover heavy quarks with the Fermilab interpretation and improved staggered light quarks. The simultaneous chiral and continuum extrapolation, which determines both decay constants, includes partially-quenched lattice results at lattice spacings a ~ 0:09, 0:12 and 0:15 fm. We have made several recent improvements in our analysis: a) we include terms in the fit describing leading order heavy-quark discretization effects, b) we have adopted a more precise input r1 value consistent with our other D and B meson studies, c) we have retuned the input bare charm masses based upon the new r1.
