Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is both mental and physical health problem affecting about 1–5% of women of childbearing age. The etiology of RPL is complex, involving chromosomal abnormalities, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, and endometrial dysfunction. The causes of abortion are still unknown in more than 50% of these cases. With the development of science and technology, an increasing number of scholars focus on this field and find that genetic factors may play an essential role in unexplained RPL, such as embolism-related genes, immune factor-related genes, and chromosomal numeric, and structural variation. This review summarizes the genetic factors associated with RPL, including genetic mutations and genetic polymorphisms, chromosomal variants, and chromosomal polymorphisms. Many related genetic factors have been found to be demographically and geographically relevant, some of which can be used for risk prediction or screening for the etiology of RPL. However, it is difficult to predict and prevent RPL due to uncertain pathogenesis and highly variable clinical presentation. Therefore, the genetic factors of RPL still need plentiful research to obtain a more accurate understanding of its pathogenesis and to provide more detection means for the screening and prevention of RPL.

In aquaculture, selective breeding for survival till harvest have become an alternative strategy for improving disease resistance and production. However, knowledge of genetic parameters of harvest survival, e.g., heritability and genetic correlations between survival and growth rate traits, is still scarce. The aims of this study were to estimate genetic parameters for harvest survival and growth rate traits under commercial farming conditions in olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus). Harvest survival was defined as a binary trait; growth traits were measured as average daily gain (ADG), specific growth rate (SGR), daily growth coefficient (DGC) and body weight (BW). Data from a population of 241 full-sib families (involving 39,904 individuals, four generations) were used. Heritabilities of survival were low but significant, which were 0.15 ± 0.04 and 0.22 ± 0.01 on observed and underlying scale, respectively. Heritability estimates for ADG, SGR and DGC were medium to high, which were 0.33 ± 0.06, 0.83 ± 0.07, 0.58 ± 0.07, respectively. While the heritability of BW is of low magnitude (0.17 ± 0.08). The genetic correlations between harvest survival and three growth rate traits (i.e., ADG, SGR and DGC) were very strong (ranging from 0.66 to 0.79), which is an exciting result. However, the genetic correlation between harvest survival and BW was much lower (0.17 ± 0.08). These results suggest that selection for harvest survival would consequentially result in concomitant increase of growth rate, and vice versa. Our findings revealed novel insights into the genetic improvement of growth rate and harvest survival through genetic selection in olive flounder.

At present, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification has been proven to participate in a wide range of gene expression regulation, such as stability, translation, splicing, and output, among others, which has attracted much attention. Unlike mammals, however, the role of m6A in innate immunity of lower invertebrates has not yet been studied. In this study, we found that the total m6A level of Miichthys miiuy increased during Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus and Vibrio anguillarum infection, suggesting that m6A may play an important role in the immune process against pathogens in fish. In addition, our study shows that stimulator of IFN genes (STING) plays a dual immune function against viruses and bacteria in fish, and through degrading STING by identifying its m6A methylation site modified by methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3), YTH domain family 2 (YTHDF2) can weaken the IRF3 and NF-κB–driven signaling pathway, thus weakening the innate immunity and promoting the infection of Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus and V. anguillarum to the M. miiuy. Although there have been reports on m6A modification of STING in mammals, it is still unclear whether there is also m6A modification in lower vertebrates, especially in fish. Therefore, our study provides a reference for filling the gap of m6A modification between fish and mammals.

This study reports the solar light-driven activation of a bicyclic aminoxyl mediator to achieve C–C bond cleavage of a lignin model compound at room temperature using a donor–π-conjugated bridge–acceptor organic dye-based photoelectrochemical system.

The blackspotted croaker (Protonibea diacanthus) is an endangered coastal marine fish. It is also a valuable species that is cultured on the southeast coast of China. While some genetic studies have been conducted to protect this species, genomic resources are lacking. Here, we report a chromosome-scale assembly of P. diacanthus genome by high-depth genome sequencing, assembly, and annotation. The genome scale was 635.69 Mb with contig and scaffold N50 length of 3.33 Mb and 25.60 Mb, respectively. Hi-C scaffolding of the genome resulted in 24 chromosomes of 94.15% total genome. We predicted 23,971 protein-coding genes. In addition, we constructed a phylogenetic tree using 2755 single-copy gene families and identified 462 unique gene families in P. diacanthus genome compared to three other sciaenids. What's more, from the analysis of gene families, we found that several gene families related to innate immunity were significantly expanded in the blackspotted croaker genome compared to other teleost genomes. The high-quality genome can improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms behind economically valuable traits and provide insights into characteristics of the immune system.

With the improvement of industrialization, numerous rural laborers migrate to urban areas in search of off-farm jobs. Farmers change agricultural production decisions to adapt to the change of labor force, which will inevitably affect the crop planting structure. However, few studies have explored the sustainability of crop planting structure. Based on the calculation of the multiple cropping index (MCI), grain crops planting rate (GCR), economic crops planting rate (ECR), and ecological sustainability index (ESI) of crop planting structure, this study analyzes the impact of labor transfer rate (LTR) and labor cost (LC) on the sustainability of crop planting structure using a geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model. The results show that the scale of rural labor transfer and labor cost in China remains on the rise, but the growth rate has slowed down. The total carbon absorption of crops in China shows a U-shape trend, and the rice and maize have the largest carbon absorption. The impact of LTR on MCI is mainly positive, especially in the North China Plain in the early stage and some provinces in the Southwest China in the later stage. The impact of LTR on ECR and ESI is negative in most provinces. And the negative influence of LC on MCI is increasing, showing the spatial distribution characteristics of large influence in the southeast and small influence in the northwest. The impact of LC on ESI shows a negative effect in most provinces in the early stage, and the negative effect is more concentrated in some provinces in the southwest in the later stage.

Methyltransferase (METTL3), the most important N6-methyladenosine (m6A) writer, plays a vital role in regulating immune-related signaling pathways. However, the underlying mechanism of METTL3 action remains largely unknown, especially in lower vertebrates. The results of this study show that METTL3 inhibits innate immune response and promotes the infection of miiuy croaker, Miichthys miiuy, by Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus and Vibrio anguillarum. Significantly, the function of METTL3 in inhibiting immunity depends on its methylase activity. Mechanistically, METTL3 increases the methylation level of trif and myd88 mRNA, rendering them sensitive to degradation by the YTHDF2/3 reader proteins. By contrast, we found that the YTHDF1 reader protein promotes the translation of myd88 mRNA. In summary, these results indicate that METTL3-mediated m6A modification of trif and myd88 mRNAs suppresses innate immunity by inhibiting the TLR pathway, unveiling a molecular mechanism by which RNA methylation controls innate immunity to pathogens in the teleost fish.

Iodoacetic acid (IAA) is an unregulated disinfection byproduct in drinking water and has been shown to exert cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, tumorigenicity, and reproductive and developmental toxicity. However, the effects of IAA on gut microbiota and its metabolism are still unknown, especially the association between gut microbiota and the metabolism and toxicity of IAA. In this study, female and male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to IAA at 0 and 16 mg/kg bw/day daily for 8 weeks by oral gavage. Results of 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that IAA could alter the diversity, relative abundance and function of gut microbiota in female and male rats. IAA also increased the abundance of genes related to steroid hormone biosynthesis in the gut microbiota of male rats. Moreover, metabolomics profiling revealed that IAA could significantly disturb 6 and 13 metabolites in the feces of female and male rats, respectively. In female rats, the level of androstanediol increased in the IAA treatment group. These results were consistent with our previous findings, where IAA was identified as an androgen disruptor. Additionally, the perturbed gut microbiota and altered metabolites were correlated with each other. The results of this study indicated that IAA could disturb gut microbiota and its metabolism. These changes in gut microbiota and its metabolism were associated with the reproductive and developmental toxicity of IAA.

With the further study of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), an increasing number of biological studies have demonstrated that lncRNAs are involved in various physiological processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, development and disease states. However, unlike mammals, little is known about the role of lncRNAs in the innate immunity of teleost fish. Here, we identify a lncRNA, named LTCONS5539, as critical role in the antiviral and antibacterial response of miiuy croaker and the results showed that lncRNA LTCONS5539 plays a critical regulatory role on TRAF6. Firstly, we found that LPS and poly(I:C) can up-regulate the expression of lncRNA LTCONS5539. Elevated lncRNA LTCONS5539 is capable of increasing the production of inflammatory factors and antiviral genes. Furthermore, the over-expression of lncRNA LTCONS5539 increases the expression of TRAF6 which was confirmed by qPCR and western blotting. On these foundations, we also proved that lncRNA LTCONS5539 modulates innate immunity through TRAF6-mediated immune responses through dual luciferase reporter assay. These results will help to further understand the immunomodulatory mechanisms of lncRNA in teleost fish.

Accumulated studies have shown that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is considered a critical regulatory factor in mammals, with a length greater than 200 nucleotides, and it can participate in gene imprinting, dose compensation, transcription enhancement, and antisense regulation. Most of the above studies are carried out in mammals, and there are very few studies on lncRNA of lower vertebrates. Here, we report a novel lncRNA, LTCONS7822, which can play a positive regulatory effect on antiviral immunity in miiuy croaker, Miichthys miiuy. Our results show that the levels of lncRNA LTCONS7822 were significantly increased after poly (I:C) stimulation. Further study, we found that lncRNA LTCONS7822 could positively regulate MITA at the post-transcriptional level. In addition, the dual-luciferase reporter assay analysis showed that the positive regulatory effect of lncRNA LTCONS7822 on NF-κB and IRF3 signaling pathways presented the dose and time-dependent manner. Western blotting experiments proved that lncRNA LTCONS7822 has a positive regulatory effect on MITA. Collectively, our study provided new information to enrich the immune regulation network of lncRNA in teleost fish.

Edwardsiella tarda is one of the most harmful bacterial pathogens for aquaculture flatfish. After artificial infection of 47 Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) families, resistant and susceptible families were identified in this study. High-throughput sequencing was performed on the liver transcriptome of uninfected groups (PoRU and PoSU) and infected groups (PoRC and PoSC). Through assembly and annotation, a total of 3012 and 1386 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in PoRU vs. PoSU and PoRC vs. PoSC. The significant enrichment pathways between PoRU and PoSU were mainly in metabolic and biosynthesis pathways. A total of thirty dominant enrichment pathways between PoRC and PoSC mainly focused on some immune-related pathways, including the hematopoietic cell lineage, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, complement and coagulation cascades, antigen processing and presentation, the intestinal immune network for immunoglobulin A (IgA) production and T/B cell receptor signaling pathway. Under the protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis, hub genes, including CD molecules, complement component factors and chemokines, were identified in the network, and 16 core genes were differentially expressed in resistant and sustainable families in quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) validation. This study represents the first transcriptome analysis based on resistant and susceptible families and provides resistant genes to understand the potential molecular mechanisms of antibacterial function in marine fish. The results obtained in this study provide crucial information on gene markers for resistant breeding of Japanese flounder.

Aero-engine turbine blades may suffer overheating during service, which can result in severe microstructural and mechanical degradation within tens of seconds. In this study, the thermal cycling creep under (950°C/15 min+1100°C/1 min)-100 MPa was performed on a directionally solidified superalloy, DZ125. The effects of overheating and thermal cycling on the creep properties were evaluated in terms of creep behavior and microstructural evolution against isothermally crept specimens under 950°C/100 MPa, 950°C/270 MPa, and 1100°C/100 MPa. The results indicated that the thermal cycling creep life was reduced dramatically compared to the isothermal creep under 950°C/100 MPa. The plastic creep deformation mainly occurred during the overheating stage during the thermal cycling creep. The thermal cycling creep curve exhibited three stages, similar to the 1100°C isothermal creep, but its minimum creep rate occurred at a lower creep strain. The overheating events caused severe microstructural degradation, such as substantial dissolution of γ' phase, earlier formation of rafted γ' microstructure, widening of the γ channels, and instability of the interfacial dislocation networks. This microstructural degradation was the main reason for the dramatic decrease in thermal cycling creep life, as the thermal cycling promoted more dislocations to cut into γ' phase and more cracks to initiate at grain boundaries, carbides, and residual eutectic pools. This study underlines the importance of evaluating the thermal cycling creep properties of superalloys to be used as turbine blades and provides insights into the effect of thermal cycling on directionally solidified superalloys for component design.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are ideal adsorbents because of their porous structure, ultra-large specific surface area, abundant active sites, and specific surface charge. Recently, light-response MOFs have received considerable research interests regarding their potential applications in environmental remediation, medical treatment, and artificial intelligence. This review systematically summarizes the recent progress of light-response MOFs and MOF-based composites for light-response adsorption/desorption. The fabrication strategies of light-response MOFs, including in situ synthesis, post-synthesis modification, and introduction of guest molecules, are presented. The mechanisms of light-induced structural change and light-responsive adsorption/desorption are summarized. The prospects for further development of light-response MOFs are discussed. The facile regeneration of light-response MOF-based adsorbents by light irradiation is highly promising for energy saving, environmental friendliness, and sustainability.

The inhibitory protein IκBα plays a key role in the inflammatory process and immune response by regulating the activity of the transcription factor NF-κB. microRNA (miR) is a small non-coding RNA that can regulate many biochemical processes, such as cell growth, proliferation, and immune response. In this study, it was first predicted that IκBα is the target of miR-122 through bioinformatics, and it was confirmed by dual fluorescence experiments. Then we found that miR-122 can inhibit the expression of IκBα at the mRNA and protein levels, thereby promoting the p65-activated NF-κB pathway. It is speculated that miR-122 plays an important role in the innate immunity of teleost fish. This study will help to further understand miRNAs regulatory mechanism in teleost fish.

Glycosyl hydrolase family 9 (GH9) cellulases play a crucial role in both cellulose synthesis and hydrolysis during plant growth and development. Despite this importance, there is currently no study on the involvement of GH9-encoding genes, specifically VaGH9s, in abscission zone formation of rabbiteye blueberries (Vaccinium ashei). In this study, we identified a total of 61 VaGH9s in the genome, which can be classified into three subclasses based on conserved motifs and domains, gene structures, and phylogenetic analyses. Our synteny analysis revealed that VaGH9s are more closely related to the GH9s of Populus L. than to those of Arabidopsis, Vitis vinifera, and Citrus sinensis. In-silico structural analysis predicted that most of VaGH9s are hydrophilic, and localized in cell membrane and/or cell wall, and the variable sets of cis-acting regulatory elements and functional diversity with four categories of stress response, hormone regulation, growth and development, and transcription factor-related elements are present in the promoter sequence of VaGH9s genes. Transcriptomic analysis showed that there were 22 differentially expressed VaGH9s in fruit abscission zone tissue at the veraison stage, and the expression of VaGH9B2 and VaGH9C10 was continuously increased during fruit maturation, which were in parallel with the increasing levels of cellulase activity and oxidative stress indicators, suggesting that they are involved in the separation stage of fruit abscission in Vaccinium ashei. Our work identified 22 VaGH9s potentially involved in different stages of fruit abscission and would aid further investigation into the molecular regulation of abscission in rabbiteye blueberries fruit.

Diversity of fruit color in sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) has been attributed to the presence of either anthocyanin or carotenoid. We profiled the anthocyanin and carotenoid metabolites to investigate the most different pigments and the underlying regulatory mechanisms of differential expression genes (DEGs) between red and yellow fruits of sweet cherry. Profiled the two cultivars,‘Jiangnanhong’(JNH, red fruits) and‘Chaoyang’(CY, yellow fruits) anthocyanin and carotenoid metabolites by LC-MS/MS and transcriptome analysis by RNA-seq to test the difference of gene expression and metabolic substances between the two varieties. Cyanidin-3-O-rutinoside was the most different pigment between two cultivars, the content of which in red fruit was significantly higher than yellow one during the whole ripening stage (stage 3 and stage 4). Total carotenoid content in the two color types of fruits were close, but the content in yellow fruit showed more stable after harvest. Based on the transcriptome data, the heatmap of selected structural DEGs showed that all of the anthocyanin genes expressed significantly higher levels in red fruits than that in yellow fruits. Two unigenes encoding chalcone synthase (CHS) and UDP glucose-flavonoid 3-O-glucosyltransferase (UFGT) expressed 1134.58 and 1151.24 times higher in red than in yellow fruits at stage 4, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that anthocyanin genes in JNH were negatively correlated with that in CY, contrastly, there were some strong correlations were observed between two cultivars in carotenoid genes. Thus, the coloration of sweet cherry was mainly attributed to anthocyanin-related genes.

The Japanese flounder is one of the most economically important marine flatfish. However, due to the increased frequency of extreme weather events and high-density industrial farming, an increasing number of environmental stresses have become severe threats to the healthy development of the Japanese flounder culture industry. Herein, we produced a high-quality chromosome-scale Japanese flounder genome using PacBio Circular Consensus Sequencing technologies. The assembled Japanese flounder genome spanned 588.22 Mb with a contig N50 size of 24.35 Mb. In total, 105.89 Mb of repetitive sequences and 22,565 protein-coding genes were identified by genome annotation. In addition, 67 candidate genes responding to distinct stresses were identified by gene coexpression network analysis based on 16 published stress-related RNA-seq datasets encompassing 198 samples. A high-quality chromosome-scale Japanese flounder genome and candidate stress-related gene set will not only serve as key resources for genomics studies and further research on the underlying stress responsive molecular mechanisms in Japanese flounder but will also advance the progress of genetic improvement and comprehensive stress-resistant molecular breeding of Japanese flounder.

Immunotherapy has been recognized as an effective and important therapeutic modality for multiple types of cancer. Nevertheless, it has been increasing recognized that clinical benefits of immunotherapy are less than expected as evidenced by the fact that only a small population of cancer patients respond favorably to immunotherapy. The structurally and functionally abnormal tumor vasculature is a hallmark of most solid tumors and contributes to an immunosuppressive microenvironment, which poses a major challenge to immunotherapy. In turn, multiple immune cell subsets have profound consequences on promoting neovascularization. Vascular normalization, a promising anti-angiogenic strategy, can enhance vascular perfusion and promote the infiltration of immune effector cells into tumors via correcting aberrant tumor blood vessels, resulting in the potentiation of immunotherapy. More interestingly, immunotherapies are prone to boost the efficacy of various anti-angiogenic therapies and/or promote the morphological and functional alterations in tumor vasculature. Therefore, immune reprograming and vascular normalization appear to be reciprocally regulated. In this review, we mainly summarize how tumor vasculature propels an immunosuppressive phenotype and how innate and adaptive immune cells modulate angiogenesis during tumor progression. We further highlight recent advances of anti-angiogenic immunotherapies in preclinical and clinical settings to solidify the concept that targeting both tumor blood vessels and immune suppressive cells provides an efficacious approach for the treatment of cancer.

Metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit impressive optical and electronic properties, making them an important class of functional materials with promising applications in solar cells, light emitting diodes (LEDs), photodetectors, and photocatalysts. In addition to the widely studied 0-dimensional (0D) metal halide perovskite NCs, such as nanocubes, low dimensional perovskites, such as 2D all-inorganic perovskite (AIP) NCs, subsist with directionally relevant quantum confinement. These anisotropic NCs have the propensity to exhibit interesting optoelectronic properties that are exceedingly difficult to introduce into 0D systems, yet as of late are largely unexplored. In this review, we discuss the recent synthetic progress of 2D all-inorganic metal halide perovskite NCs with ABX3 structure. Specifically, we highlight the discrete composition control of the cations (A and B sites) and anions (X site) by dopant incorporation and alloying in 2D metal halide perovskite NCs. We will also discuss more complex perovskite crystal structures, such as Ruddlesden–Popper double perovskites, and compare these materials to 0D perovskite systems. Ultimately, our work culminates in the future interests and perspectives of this field with a focus on the wide applicability of 2D systems and the large variance in structure capable with discrete compositional tuning.

With the depletion of fossil fuel resources, as well as increasing global temperatures, the interest in sustainable energy is on the rise. Currently, cars are a significant source of harmful emissions due to the use of internal combustion engines. Incomplete combustion byproducts are extremely harmful to the environment and the population, with links to acid rain, smog, and respiratory issues. While green energy solutions, such as electric vehicles, are being developed, the treatment of exhaust can also be an effective way to reduce the release of emissions into the atmosphere. It has been shown that a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is able to break down emissions, even exceeding the capability of typical exhaust treatment methods. An investigation into the usage of an SOFC as an exhaust treatment material has found that the amplification of a signal generated across the cell has an even greater effect on emission reduction. Here, the addition of cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals to the fuel cell is being investigated. The SOFC is tested as an exhaust treatment solution and as a power generation device in comparison to a typical SOFC without added CsPbBr3 nanocrystals. CsPbBr3 is a perovskite semiconductor, so it is expected to have an effect on the reactivity of the fuel cell. Investigating the effects of adding nanocrystals into a SOFC will lead to advancements in exhaust treatment systems as well as power generation systems. The work here will show a direct relationship between the quantity of nanocrystals contained in the SOFC to the emission reduction and power generation abilities of the SOFC.

The oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis, is a highly invasive pest in East Asia and the Pacific. With the development of pesticides resistance, environment-friendly pesticides are urgently needed. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are critical regulators of numerous biological processes, including reproduction. Thus, it is significant to identify reproductive-related miRNAs in this notorious pest to facilitate its control, such as RNAi-based biopesticides targeting essential miRNAs.A high-throughput sequencing was carried out to identify miRNAs involved in reproduction from the ovary and fat body at four developmental stages [1 day (d), 5, 9, and 13 days post-eclosion] in female B. dorsalis. Results showed that 98 and 74 miRNAs were differentially expressed in ovary and fat body, respectively, during sexual maturation. Gene ontology analysis showed that target genes involved in oogenesis and lipid particle accounted for 33% and 15% of the total targets, respectively. Among these differentially expressed miRNAs, we found by qPCR that miR-311-3p was enriched in the ovary and down-regulated during sexual maturation. Injection of agomir-miR-311-3p resulted in arrested ovarian development, reduced egg deposition and progeny viability. Endophilin B1 was confirmed to be the target of miR-311-3p, via dual-luciferase assay and expression profiling. Knockdown of Endophilin B1 resulted in reproductive defects similar to those caused by injection of miR-311-3p agomir. Thus, miR-311-3p might play a critical role in female reproduction by targeting Endophilin B1.Our data not only provides knowledge on the abundance of reproductive-related miRNAs and target genes, but also promotes new control strategies for this pest. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) gene family performs crucial roles in cell division, migration, development, apoptosis, inflammatory response, and abiotic and biotic stress responses. However, very little information is available about the MAPKs in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus). In this study, 15 turbot MAPKs (SmMAPKs) were identified throughout the whole genome, and their basic chemical and physical properties and subcellular localization were illustrated. All SmMAPKs contained the serine/threonine protein kinases, catalytic domain (S_TKc, SMART00220). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that SmMAPKs were classified into three subfamilies, namely, c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), and p38. Conserved motif and gene structure analysis revealed high levels of conservation within and between phylogenetic subfamilies. Expression patterns of MAPKs in distinct tissues and under diverse abiotic and biotic stresses were examined using the published available RNA-seq data sets. As a result, SmMAPKs showed obviously tissue-specific expression. Furthermore, 7 and 10 candidate stress-responsive MAPK genes were detected under abiotic and biotic stresses, respectively, among which five common MAPK genes, namely, SmMAPK4 (ERK4), SmMAPK6 (ERK3), SmMAPK11 (p38β), SmMAPK12b (p38γ), and SmMAPK15 (ERK7/8) showed extremely significant responses to both abiotic and biotic stresses, demonstrating their potential functions in comprehensive antistress. These results demonstrate that MAPKs might play vital roles in response to various abiotic and biotic stresses in turbot, which would contribute to making scientific preventive measures to environmental changes in the process of farming and promoting the development of selective breeding for comprehensive stress resistance in turbot.

Photoelectrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) toward H2O2 is highly desirable because only sunlight, O2 and water are required in the process. However, the corresponding studies are still at its infancy because of the lack of suitable photocathodes, especially inorganic semiconductor photocathodes. In this work, we report CuBi2O4/CuO (CBO/CuO) heterojunction submicrocrystalline film photocathodes with efficient ORR activity for H2O2 production. The heterojunction film photocathodes were prepared through thermal evaporation of Cu and Bi metals under vacuum and subsequent annealing treatment. Furthermore, the doping of Gd3+ ions into CBO/CuO could significantly enhance the yield of H2O2. As a result, the concentration of H2O2 could reach 1.3 mM within 30 min, which is 6 times higher than that obtained on the pristine CBO/CuO photocathode. The theoretical calculations suggested that the introduction of Gd could adjust the electronic structure of CBO surface and promote 2e ORR pathway for selective production of H2O2. Our work not only provides a new strategy for designing highly efficient photocathode for H2O2 production but also will evoke more interest in photoelectrocatalytic ORR through inorganic semiconductor photocathode.

In this study, thermal cycling creep tests under (950 °C/15 min+1100 °C/1 min)/100 MPa were performed to simulate the overheating service condition of a directionally solidified superalloy DZ125. The microstructural evolution and creep mechanism at each creep stage were revealed by systematic microstructure characterization after the interrupted creep tests. The results indicated that DZ125 superalloy exhibited three creep stages: the decelerating stage, the slow accelerating stage and the rapid accelerating stage. During creep, the un-recovered γ′ volume fraction at the lower temperature stages and the deterioration of grain boundary caused by the overheating stages were harmful to the creep resistance. During the decelerating stage, a few dislocations moved on the γ matrix. The rafted γ′ microstructure and dislocation networks formed near the minimum creep rate. Simultaneously, some dislocations sheared the γ′ phase as well. During the slow accelerating stage, the rafted γ′ microstructure and dislocation networks could prevent dislocations from moving. However, the dislocations shearing the γ′ phase, facilitated by the overheating and thermal cycling process, was conducive to creep deformation. During the rapid accelerating stage, more dislocations shearing the γ′ phase, severe γ′ phase degradation and increasing PFZs (precipitate free zones) along the grain boundary accelerated the creep deformation. The coupled effect of overheating and thermal cycling damage accelerated the deformation during the thermal cycling creep.
