This work was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of lipid nanoparticle-loaded sorafenib combined with transcatheter artery chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HC) complicated with microvascular invasion (MVI). In this work, 102 patients with primary HC combined with MVI after radical resection were divided into 4 groups according to different treatment methods. Experimental group 1 was treated with lipid nanoparticle-loaded sorafenib combined with TACE treatment group; experimental group 2 was treated with lipid nanoparticle-loaded sorafenib treatment group; experimental group 3 was TACE treatment group; control group was postoperative routine nursing group. Sorafenib lipid nanoparticles were prepared. The basic information, operation, MVI degree, tumor recurrence, and survival time of patients in each group were recorded and compared to evaluate the therapeutic effect of combined way. No great difference was found in MVI grade, average age, sex ratio, preoperative tumor markers, tumor size, number of patients with liver cirrhosis, operation time, and intraoperative bleeding among the four groups ( P > 0.05 ). In addition, the tumor free survival time (TFST), overall survival time (OST), and postoperative 1-year and 2-year survival rates of patients in test group 1 were greatly higher than those in single mode treatment group and control group ( P < 0.05 ). In summary, sorafenib nanoparticles combined with TACE can improve the survival status of patients after resection and delay the time of postoperative tumor recurrence.

PurposeWe conducted a retrospective study to compare transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus lenvatinib plus programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors with TACE plus lenvatinib in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Patients and methodsPatients with HCC were analyzed from January 2018 to January 2022 in three hospitals. Patients received TACE plus lenvatinib with or without PD-1 inhibitors (TACE+L+PD-1 or TACE+L, respectively). The baseline characteristics of the two groups were compared, and propensity score matching (PSM) was performed. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and objective response rate (ORR) of the two groups were compared. Adverse events in the two groups were analyzed.ResultsA total of 166 patients were evaluated (TACE+L+PD-1, n = 75; TACE+L, n = 91). Before PSM, OS was prolonged in the TACE+L+PD-1 group (p = 0.010), but PFS was similar between the two groups (p = 0.18). ORR was higher in the TACE+L+PD-1 group (p = 0.047). After PSM, estimated OS rates at 6, 12, and 24 months were 97.9%, 84.6%, and 74.1%, respectively, in the TACE+L+PD-1 group (n = 48) and 93.1%, 66.1%, and 43.4%, respectively, in the TACE+L group (n = 48). Estimated PFS rates at 3, 6, and 12 months were 81.9%, 61.8%, and 30.9%, respectively, in the TACE+L group and 95.7%, 82.1%, and 68.4%, respectively, in the TACE+L+PD-1 group. OS, PFS, and ORR were improved in the TACE+L+PD-1 group compared to the TACE+L group (p = 0.030; p = 0.027; p = 0.013). The safety of the TACE+L+PD-1 regimen was acceptable.ConclusionsThe addition of PD-1 inhibitors to TACE+L significantly improved clinical outcomes in patients with unresectable HCC. Side effects were manageable.

Based on first-principles calculations, we find that LiZnBi, a metallic hexagonal $ABC$ compound, can be driven into a Dirac semimetal with a pair of Dirac points by strain. The nontrivial topological nature of the strained LiZnBi is directly demonstrated by calculating its $\mathbb{Z}_2$ index and the surface states, where the Fermi arcs are clearly observed. The low-energy states as well as topological properties are shown to be sensitive to the strain configurations. The finding of Dirac semimetal phase in LiZnBi may intrigue further researches on the topological properties of hexagonal $ABC$ materials and promote new practical applications., 12 pages, 6 figures

Three-dimensional topological Dirac semimetals represent a novel state of quantum matter with exotic electronic properties, in which a pair of Dirac points with a linear dispersion along all momentum directions exists in the bulk. Herein, by using first-principles calculations, we discover the metastable allotropes of Ge and Sn in the staggered layered dumbbell structure, named germancite and stancite, to be Dirac semimetals with a pair of Dirac points on their rotation axis. On the surface parallel to the rotation axis, a pair of topologically nontrivial Fermi arcs are observed and a Lifshitz transition is found by tuning the Fermi level. Furthermore, the quantum thin film of germancite is found to be an intrinsic quantum spin Hall insulator. Based on first-principles calculations, we predict Bi2TeI, a stoichiometric compound synthesized, to be a weak topological insulator (TI) in layered subvalent bismuth telluroiodides. Within a bulk energy gap of 80 meV, two Dirac-cone-like topological surface states exist on the side surface perpendicular to BiTeI layer plane. These Dirac cones are relatively isotropic due to the strong inter-layer coupling, distinguished from those of previously reported weak TI candidates. Moreover, with chemically stable cladding layers, the BiTeI-Bi2-BiTeI sandwiched structure is a robust quantum spin Hall system, which can be obtained by simply cleaving the bulk Bi2TeI., Comment: 4.5 pages, 4 figures

Under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License 3.0 (CC-BY).-- et al., From density functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation we predict a structure of stanene with dumbbell units (DBs), and show that it is a two-dimensional topological insulator with an inverted band gap which can be tuned by compressive strain. Furthermore, we propose that the boron nitride sheet and reconstructed (2x2) InSb(111) surfaces are ideal substrates for the experimental realization of DB stanene, maintaining its nontrivial topology. Combined with standard semiconductor technologies, such as magnetic doping and electrical gating, the quantum anomalous Hall effect, Chern half metallicity, and topological superconductivity can be realized in DB stanene on those substrates. The low energy physics of both graphene and surface states of three-dimensional topological insulators is described by gapless Dirac fermions with linear dispersion. In this work, we predict the emergence of a "heavy" Dirac fermion in a graphene/topological insulator hetero-junction, where the linear term almost vanishes and the corresponding energy dispersion becomes highly non-linear. By combining {\it ab initio} calculations and an effective low-energy model, we show explicitly how strong hybridization between Dirac fermions in graphene and the surface states of topological insulators can reduce the Fermi velocity of Dirac fermions. Due to the negligible linear term, interaction effects will be greatly enhanced and can drive "heavy" Dirac fermion states into the half quantum Hall state with non-zero Hall conductance., 2 figures
