In the treatment of transverse olecranon fractures, complicated tension band wiring (TBW) has high rates of re-operations. Besides, plate fixation (PF) and TBW both have large surgical incisions and soft-tissue irritation. Therefore, the new cross-locking intramedullary nail (CIN) with easy handling and minimally invasive features is significantly advantageous. The goal of this study was to biomechanically compare CIN with TBW for fixing transverse olecranon fracture.The transverse olecranon fracture models were created with 15 fresh-frozen cadaveric ulnae which were randomly divided into 3 groups: one group for TBW fixation, another for CIN fixation with 1 conical locking screw (CIN-1), and the last for CIN fixation with 3 conical locking screws (CIN-3). The stiffness, cyclic stability, and failure strength of the fixed fracture models were compared after the corresponding experimental tests.The failure strength of TBW, CIN-1 and CIN-3 were (313.38±27.68) N, (528.56±53.58) N and (871.04±94.95) N. There was a significant difference between them. However, as for dynamic stability and stiffness, CIN-3 was higher and TBW was lower, with no significant differences between the groups.The biomechanical properties of CIN were superior to those of TBW, and CIN was more stable and solid for fixing transverse olecranon fracture, of which CIN-3 was the strongest.

Background Kidney stone disease (KSD) is a common condition that affects 10% population in the United States (US). The relationship between thiamine and riboflavin intake and KSD has not been well-studied. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of KSD and the association between dietary thiamine and riboflavin intake with KSD in the US population. Methods This large-scale, cross-sectional study included subjects from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007–2018. KSD and dietary intake were collected from questionnaires and 24-hour recall interviews. Logistic regression and sensitivity analyses were performed to investigate the association. Results This study included 26,786 adult participants with a mean age of 50.12 ± 17.61 years old. The prevalence of KSD was 9.62%. After adjusting for all potential covariates, we found that higher riboflavin intake was negatively related to KSD compared with dietary intake of riboflavin P = 0.002). After stratifying by gender and age, we found that the impact of riboflavin on KSD still existed in all age subgroups (P P = 0.001). No such associations were found between dietary intake of thiamine and KSD in any of the subgroups. Conclusions Our study suggested that a high intake of riboflavin is independently inversely associated with kidney stones, especially in male population. No association was found between dietary intake of thiamine and KSD. Further studies are needed to confirm our results and explore the causal relationships.

Autophagy is a conserved lysosomal degradation pathway where cellular components are dynamically degraded and re-processed to maintain physical homeostasis. However, the physiological effect of autophagy appears to be multifaced. On the one hand, autophagy functions as a cytoprotective mechanism, protecting against multiple diseases, especially tumor, cardiovascular disorders, and neurodegenerative and infectious disease. Conversely, autophagy may also play a detrimental role via pro-survival effects on cancer cells or cell-killing effects on normal body cells. During disorder onset and progression, the expression levels of autophagy-related regulators and proteins encoded by autophagy-related genes (ATGs) are abnormally regulated, giving rise to imbalanced autophagy flux. However, the detailed mechanisms and molecular events of this process are quite complex. Epigenetic, including DNA methylation, histone modifications and miRNAs, and post-translational modifications, including ubiquitination, phosphorylation and acetylation, precisely manipulate gene expression and protein function, and are strongly correlated with the occurrence and development of multiple diseases. There is substantial evidence that autophagy-relevant regulators and machineries are subjected to epigenetic and post-translational modulation, resulting in alterations in autophagy levels, which subsequently induces disease or affects the therapeutic effectiveness to agents. In this review, we focus on the regulatory mechanisms mediated by epigenetic and post-translational modifications in disease-related autophagy to unveil potential therapeutic targets. In addition, the effect of autophagy on the therapeutic effectiveness of epigenetic drugs or drugs targeting post-translational modification have also been discussed, providing insights into the combination with autophagy activators or inhibitors in the treatment of clinical diseases.

Data sparsity is an important issue for click-through rate (CTR) prediction, particularly when user-item interactions is too sparse to learn a reliable model. Recently, many works on cross-domain CTR (CDCTR) prediction have been developed in an effort to leverage meaningful data from a related domain. However, most existing CDCTR works have an impractical limitation that requires homogeneous inputs (\textit{i.e.} shared feature fields) across domains, and CDCTR with heterogeneous inputs (\textit{i.e.} varying feature fields) across domains has not been widely explored but is an urgent and important research problem. In this work, we propose a cross-domain augmentation network (CDAnet) being able to perform knowledge transfer between two domains with \textit{heterogeneous inputs}. Specifically, CDAnet contains a designed translation network and an augmentation network which are trained sequentially. The translation network is able to compute features from two domains with heterogeneous inputs separately by designing two independent branches, and then learn meaningful cross-domain knowledge using a designed cross-supervised feature translator. Later the augmentation network encodes the learned cross-domain knowledge via feature translation performed in the latent space and fine-tune the model for final CTR prediction. Through extensive experiments on two public benchmarks and one industrial production dataset, we show CDAnet can learn meaningful translated features and largely improve the performance of CTR prediction. CDAnet has been conducted online A/B test in image2product retrieval at Taobao app over 20days, bringing an absolute \textbf{0.11 point} CTR improvement and a relative \textbf{1.26\%} GMV increase.

Finding optimal configurations in a geometric space is a key challenge in many technological disciplines. Current approaches either rely heavily on human domain expertise and are difficult to scale. In this paper we show it is possible to solve configuration optimization problems for whole-page recommendation using reinforcement learning. The proposed \textit{Tile Networks} is a neural architecture that optimizes 2D geometric configurations by arranging items on proper positions. Lightweight materials with high electrical conductivity and hydrophobic mechanical properties are ideal materials for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. Herein, the conductive composites with great EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) were successfully obtained by introducing multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) based on the original structure of natural wood (NW). CNT@PDMS/NW composites were prepared via vacuum-pulse impregnation method and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, hydrophobicity analysis, and EMI shielding performance. As demonstrated, CNT nanosheets were successfully inserted into wood matrices, and hydrogen bonding between CNT nanosheets and cellulose nanofibers induced the fabrication of CNT@PDMS/NW composites. CNT@PDMS/NW composites exhibited excellent EMI SE values of 25.2 dB at the X-band frequency.

Diapause is a form of dormancy used widely by insects to survive adverse seasons. Previous studies have demonstrated that forkhead box O (FoxO) is activated during pupal diapause initiation in the moth Helicoverpa armigera . However, it is unclear how FoxO induces diapause. Here, we show that knockout of FoxO causes H. armigera diapause-destined pupae to channel into nondiapause, indicating that FoxO is a master regulator that induces insect diapause. FoxO activates the ubiquitin–proteasome system (UPS) by promoting ubiquitin c (Ubc) expression via directly binding to the Ubc promoter. Activated UPS decreases transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) receptor signaling via ubiquitination to block developmental signaling to induce diapause. This study significantly advances the understanding of insect diapause by uncovering the detailed molecular mechanism of FoxO.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are considered a major cause of aging and aging-related diseases through protein carbonylation. Little is known about the molecular mechanisms that confer protection against ROS. Here, we observed that, compared with nondiapause-destined pupae, high protein carbonyl levels are present in the brains of diapause-destined pupae, which is a 'non-aging' phase in the moth Helicoverpa armigera. Protein carbonyl levels respond to ROS and decrease metabolic activity to induce diapause in order to extend lifespan. However, protein carbonylation in the brains of diapause-destined pupae still occurs at a physiological level compared to young adult brains. We find that ROS activate Akt, and Akt then phosphorylates the transcription factor CREB to facilitate its nuclear import. CREB binds to the promoter of carbonyl reductase 1 (CBR1) and regulates its expression. High CBR1 levels reduce protein carbonyl levels to maintain physiological levels. This is the first report showing that the moth brain can naturally control protein carbonyl levels through a distinct ROS-Akt-CREB-CBR1 pathway to extend lifespan.

It is impossible to obtain the forming limit curve (FLC) by full zone hydraulic forming test under quasi-static (QS) condition since the liquid will leak from the notches of the specimen once the pressure increases. In this study, a novel method is proposed to investigate the frictionless full zone hydraulic FLC of AA5A06 under high strain rate (HSR) condition based on the impact hydroforming technology (IHF). It is found that the FLC is increased significantly by IHF compared with the quasi-static rigid punch (QS-R) forming and the quasi-static hydraulic (QS-H) forming. Differentiating with the QS-H, the increase amounts of FLC at the biaxial tension zone and the tension-compression zone are notably different for IHF. Additionally, the theoretical calculations of FLC is conducted by using M-K model combining with Hill48 anisotropic yield criterion under QS and HSR conditions. The results calculated by the M-K model reasonably agree with the ones obtained from experimentation under QS and HSR condition, and a higher initial thickness ratio is assigned for HSR considering the neck postponing effect of inertia.

Single-atom catalysis efficiently exposes the catalytic sites to reactant molecules while rendering opportunity to investigate the catalysis mechanisms at atomic levels for scientific insights. Here, for the first time, atomically dispersed Co atoms are synthesized as biomimetic "enzymes" to monitor superoxide anions (O2•-), delivering ultraordinary high sensitivity (710.03 μA·μM-1·cm-2), low detection limit (1.5 nM), and rapid response time (1.2 s), ranking the best among all the reported either bioenzymatic or biomimetic O2•- biosensors. The sensor is further successfully employed to real-time monitor O2•- released from living cells. Moreover, theoretical calculation and analysis associated with experimental results discover that a mode of end adsorption of the negatively charged O2•- on the Co3+ atom rather than a bridge or/and side adsorption of the two atoms of O2•- on two Co3+ atoms, respectively, plays an important role in the single-atomic catalysis toward O2•- oxidation, which not only facilitates faster electron transfer but also offers better selectivity. This work holds great promise for an inexpensive and sensitive atomic biomimetic O2•- sensor for bioresearch and clinic diagnosis, while revealing that the adsorption mode plays a critical role in single-atom catalysis for a fundamental insight.

Fibrosis is a chronic inflammation process with excess extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition that cannot be reversed. Patients suffer from bladder dysfunction caused by bladder fibrosis. Moreover, the interactive mechanisms between ECM and bladder fibrosis are still obscure. Hence, we assessed the pivotal effect of Yes-associated protein (YAP) on the proliferation of bladder smooth muscle in fibrosis process. We identified that stiff ECM increased the expression and translocation of YAP in the nucleus of human bladder smooth muscle cell (hBdSMC). Sequencings and proteomics revealed that YAP bound to Smad3 and promoted the proliferation of hBdSMC via MAPK/ERK signaling pathway in stiff ECM. Moreover, CUT and TAG sequencing and dual-luciferase assays demonstrated that Smad3 inhibited the transcription of JUN. The YAP inhibitor CA3 was used in a partial bladder outlet obstruction (pBOO) rat model. The results showed that CA3 attenuated bladder smooth muscle proliferation. Collectively, YAP binding with Smad3 in the nucleus inhibited the transcription of JUN, and promoted the proliferation of bladder smooth muscle through the MAPK/ERK signaling pathway. The current study identified a novel mechanism of mechanical force induced bladder fibrosis that provided insights in YAP-associated organ fibrosis.

Background To identify potential targets related to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolism in gliomas, we used RNA immunoprecipitation to identify a novel long noncoding RNA renamed malate dehydrogenase degradation helper (MDHDH) (NONCODE annotation ID: NONHSAT138800.2, NCBI Reference Sequence: NR_028345), which bound to MDH2 (malate dehydrogenase 2), that is downregulated in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and associated with metabolic regulation. However, its underlying mechanisms in the progression of GBM have not been well studied. Methods To investigate the clinical significance of MDHDH, we analyzed its expression levels in publicly available datasets and collected clinical samples from Shandong Provincial Hospital, affiliated with Shandong University. Functional assays, including FISH/CISH, CCK8, EdU, wound healing, and transwell assays, were used to determine the cellular/subcellular localization, tissue expression profile and anti-oncogenic role of MDHDH. Furthermore, RNA pulldown, mass spectrometry RNA immunoprecipitation, coimmunoprecipitation, JC-1 probe, and cell energy-production assays were used to determine the mechanisms of MDHDH in the development of GBM. Animal experiments were conducted to determine the antitumorigenic role of MDHDH in GBM in vivo. Results In public datasets, MDHDH expression was significantly downregulated in GBM and LGG compared with GTEx normal brain tissues. The results of the tissue microarray showed that the MDHDH expression level negatively correlated with the tumor grade. Altered MDHDH expression led to significant changes in the proliferation, migration and invasion of GBM cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, we found that MDHDH directly bound to MDH2 and PSMA1 (20S proteasomal core subunit alpha-type 1) as a molecular scaffold and accelerated the degradation of MDH2 by promoting the binding of ubiquitinated MDH2 to the proteasome. The degradation of MDH2 subsequently led to changes in the mitochondrial membrane potential and NAD+/NADH ratio, which impeded glycolysis in glioma cells. Conclusions In conclusion, this study broadened our understanding of the functions of lncRNAs in GBM. We demonstrated that the tumor suppressor MDHDH might act as a clinical biomarker and that the overexpression of MDHDH might be a novel synergistic strategy for enhancing metabolism-based, epigenetic-based, and autophagy regulation-based therapies with clinical benefits for glioblastoma multiforme patients.

Inefficient tumour treatment approaches often cause fatal tumour metastases. Here, we report a biomimetic multifunctional nanoplatform explicitly engineered with a Co-based metal organic framework polydopamine heterostructure (MOF-PDA), anethole trithione (ADT), and a macrophage membrane. Co-MOF degradation in the tumour microenvironment releases Co2+, which results in the downregulation of HSP90 expression and the inhibition of cellular heat resistance, thereby improving the photothermal therapy effect of PDA. H2S secretion after the enzymatic hydrolysis of ADT leads to high-concentration gas therapy. Moreover, ADT changes the balance between nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide/flavin adenine dinucleotide (NADH/FAD) during tumour glycolysis. ATP synthesis is limited by NADH consumption, which triggers a certain degree of tumour growth inhibition and results in starvation therapy. Potentiated 2D/3D autofluorescence imaging of NADH/FAD is also achieved in liquid nitrogen and employed to efficiently monitor tumour therapy. The developed biomimetic nanoplatform provides an approach to treat orthotopic tumours and inhibit metastasis.

Purpose The purpose of this research was to assess the value of homocysteine (HCY) levels in predicting cognitive dysfunction in patients after acute carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Methods A total of 115 patients who were admitted to the emergency department of Yinzhou NO. 2 Hospital after CO poisoning between January 2017 and December 2021 were enrolled in this retrospective study. All patients were followed up for 1 month. According to the Mini–Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores, patients were divided into two groups. The demographic and clinical characteristics and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results were gathered and statistically analysed. Results Twenty-six and 89 patients were ultimately enrolled in the cognitive dysfunction and control groups, respectively. There were significant differences between the groups in terms of age, coma duration, and carboxyhaemoglobin (COHB), lactate and HCY levels (p p > 0.05). Univariate and multivariate analyses identified that a higher HCY level (OR 2.979, 95% CI 1.851-5.596, p r = − 0.880, P Conclusions Higher HCY levels were associated with cognitive impairment and were independent risk factors for cognitive impairment after acute CO poisoning. The level of HCY was negatively correlated with the degree of cognitive impairment.

Traditional luminescent liquid crystals (LLCs) suffer from fluorescence quenching caused by aggregation, which greatly limits their further application. In this work, a kind of novel LLCs (named carbonized polymer dot liquid crystals (CPD-LCs)) are designed and successfully synthesized through grafting the rod-shaped liquid crystal (LC) molecules of 4'-cyano-4-(4″-bromohexyloxy) biphenyl on the surface of CPDs. The peripheral LC molecules not only increase the distance between different CPDs to prevent them from aggregating and reduce intermolecular energy resonance transfer but also make this LLC have an ordered arrangement. Thus, the obtained CPD-LCs show good LC property and excellent high luminous efficiency with an absolute photoluminescence quantum yield of 14.52% in the aggregated state. Furthermore, this kind of CPD-LC is used to fabricate linearly polarized devices. The resultant linearly polarized dichroic ratio (N) and polarization ratio (ρ) are 2.59 and 0.44, respectively. Clearly, this type of CPD-LC shows promising applications for optical devices.

Despite advancements in synthetic chemistry, nature remains the primary source of drug discovery, and this never-ending task of finding novel and active drug molecules will continue. Flavonoids have been shown to possess highly significant therapeutic activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-aging, neuroprotective, and cardioprotective, etc., However, it has been found that orally administered flavonoids have a critical absorption disorder and, therefore, have low bioavailability and show fluctuating pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic responses. A detailed investigation is required to assess and analyze the variation in the bioavailability of flavonoids due to interactions with the intestinal barrier. This review will emphasize on the bioavailability and the pharmacological applications of flavonoids, key factors affecting their bioavailability, and strategies for enhancing bioavailability, which may lead to deeper understanding of the extent of flavonoids as a treatment and/or prevention for different diseases in clinics.

Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) is a sporadic malignant disease characterized by a high level of invasiveness and a poor prognosis. Symptoms are atypical, making it difficult to obtain an accurate early diagnosis. Some patients may have fever, night sweats, weight loss, lumbar and abdominal pain, and adrenal insufficiency. Certain clinical signs and biochemical characteristics can help clinicians make an early and rapid diagnosis to prevent a delay in treatment. Here, we report a case of a female patient with unilateral PAL and low back pain. After rapid diagnosis, R-CHOP chemotherapy combined with autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation was administered; the patient's condition improved significantly, and her prognosis was good. There was no recurrence during a follow-up period of more than two years.

Subtilisin NAT, a Bacillus subtilisin, is widely applied as a functional food and considered to be one of the most exploitable potential oral thrombolytic agents. Subtilisin QK, another Bacillus subtilisin, is a serine protease fermented by Bacillus subtilis 02 and has a better thrombolytic effect. Therefore, subtilisin QK is typically used for evaluating the safety of Bacillus subtilisins. Here, we conduct several good laboratory practice (GLP)-compliant studies in non-rodent animal, i.e., in Beagle dogs, including acute toxicity, subchronic toxicity, and safety pharmacology studies. No adverse effects were evident in the acute and 28-d subchronic toxicity studies at doses up to 40000 FU/kg and 16000 FU/kg/d, respectively. In evaluating the pharmacological safety of up to 2000FU/kg subtilisin QK, we found no significant differences between the electrocardiograms, blood pressures, and respiration of beagle dogs. These findings suggest the safety of Bacillus subtilisin, providing reliable pharmacological and toxicological data for its development and popularization as a functional food and drug.

Extruded glutelin/rice starch composites were prepared using twin-screw extrusion at various specific mechanical energies (SME), and the interaction mechanism of glutelin and rice starch was investigated at the molecular level. The results indicated that the structure of glutelin was destroyed, hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds between rice starch and glutelin were formed and enhanced as the SME increased, and new hydrogen bonds were formed at the carbonyl (δ- and γ-carbons of glutelin) and C-1 of Tyr. Molecular docking studies confirmed that SME promoted the simultaneous occurrence of the Millard reaction and non-covalent reaction between glutelin and small molecular sugars produced by starch degradation, providing information on binding sites. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed dense and uniform flake-like structures induced by these binding interactions. Overall, insights into the interaction mechanism of rice starch and glutelin provide theoretical references for generating reconstituted rice products using extrusion processing.

Literature regarding the impacts of heavy metal exposure on erectile dysfunction (ED) is scarce. We aimed to evaluate the correlation between 10 urinary metals and ED in a large, nationally representative adult male sample. The dataset was extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) during the period of 2001-2002 and 2003-2004. Weighted proportions and multivariable logistic regression analysis adjusted for confounding variables were utilized to determine the relationship between metal exposure and ED. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression was utilized to evaluate the impact of a mixture of urinary metals on ED. A total of 1328 participants were included in our study. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, cobalt (Co) and antimony (Sb) were positively associated with ED (odds ratio [OR]: 1.36, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.10-1.73, P = 0.020; and OR: 1.41, 95% CI: 1.12-1.77, P = 0.018, respectively) after full adjustment. Men in tertile 4 for Co (OR: 1.49, 95% CI: 1.02-2.41, P for trend = 0.012) and Sb (OR: 1.53, 95% CI: 1.08-2.40, P for trend = 0.041) had significantly higher odds of ED than those in tertile 1. Furthermore, the WQS index was significantly linked with increased odds of ED after full adjustment (OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.04-1.72, P0.05). Our study expanded on previous literature indicating the possible role of heavy metal exposure in the etiology of ED. The evaluation of heavy metal exposure should be included in the risk assessment of ED.

Previous studies have shown that high physiological levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the brain promote pupal diapause, which extends the pupal lifespan. However, the molecular mechanisms of ROS generation are unclear. In this paper, we found that mitochondrial ROS (mtROS) levels in the brains of Helicoverpa armigera diapause-destined pupae (DP) were higher and that the expression of cytochrome oxidase subunit IV (COXIV) was lower than in NP. In addition, downregulating COXIV caused mitochondrial dysfunction which elevated mtROS levels. Protein kinase A (PKA) was downregulated in DP, which led to the downregulated expression of the mitochondrial transcription factor TFAM. Low TFAM activity failed to promote COXIV expression and resulted in the high ROS levels that induced diapause. In addition, low sirtuin 2 expression suppressed glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deacetylation at K382, which led to reduced G6PD activity and low NADPH levels, thereby maintaining high levels of ROS. Two proteins, COXIV and G6PD, thus play key roles in the elevated accumulation of ROS that induce diapause and extend the pupal lifespan.

A novel cylindrical metal hydride (MH) reactor with loop-type finned tube and jacket heat exchanger was proposed in this work. This MH reactor is expected to possess high performance due to the enhanced heat transfer, compact structure and good gas tightness. A three-dimensional multi-physical model for hydrogen absorption was presented to investigate the evolutions of temperature and concentration in the MH bed, as well as the mean reaction rate of hydrogen absorption process. The effects of different fin configurations on the performance of the proposed MH reactor were also examined. It was indicated that the evolution curve of the mean reaction rate for the whole hydrogen absorption process can be divided into two stages. The reaction rate in the first stage is mainly dependent on the initial conditions (i.e., temperature and gas pressure) of MH bed, whereas the second stage is mainly influenced by the heat dissipation from MH bed to cooling fluid. For the proposed MH reactor, the total charging time for reaching 90% hydrogen saturation can be decreased by 56.8% and 81.9% as compared with that for cylindrical MH reactor with finned double U-shape tube heat exchanger and cylindrical MH reactor with finned single-tube heat exchanger, respectively. In the past two decades, purinergic signaling has emerged as a key regulator of hematopoiesis in physiological and pathological conditions. ADP receptor P2y12 is a crucial component of this signaling, but whether it is involved in primitive hematopoiesis remains unknown. To elucidate the function of P2y12 and provide new insights for drug development, we established a zebrafish P2y12 mutant by CRISPR/Cas 9-based genetic modification system, and investigated whether P2y12 acted as an important regulator for primitive hematopoiesis. By using mass spectrometry (MS) combined with RNA sequencing, we showed that absence of P2y12 induced excessive erythropoiesis, evidenced by significantly increased expression of mature erythrocytes marker α-globin (Hbae1 and Hbae3), β-globin (Hbbe1 and Hbbe3). Expression pattern analysis showed that P2y12 was mainly expressed in red blood cells and endothelial cells of early zebrafish embryos. Further studies revealed that primitive erythroid progenitor marker Gata1 was markedly up-regulated. Remarkably, inhibition of Gata1 by injection of Gata1 morpholino could rescue the erythroid abnormality in P2y12 mutants. The present study demonstrates the essential role of purinergic signaling in differentiation of proerythrocytes during primitive hematopoiesis, and provides potential targets for treatment of blood-related disease and drug development.

为了拓宽LCD的色域，提出了在背光系统中添加基于TiO2-Ag-TiO2-Ag-Glass膜层结构的滤波器来优化背光源光谱。所提出的滤波器在可见光范围内可以仅通过红、绿和蓝3种颜色的光，而反射其他颜色的光。利用TechWiz 1D软件模拟了滤波器对于LCD色域的影响。当所提出的滤波器分别与黄色荧光粉（pc-WLED）、新红粉（KSF-LED）以及量子点（QD）背光源相结合时，LCD的色域分别从72%提升至102.6% NTSC，从92.3%提升至113.8% NTSC，从104.3%提升至119.9% NTSC。当入射光的角度从0°增加到40°时，3种背光源的色域变化都很小。模拟结果表明：基于金属-电介质-金属（MDM）膜层结构的滤波器拥有小的角度依赖性，因此对实现宽色域LCD，是一种非常有效的方法。但其光利用率很低，3种背光源的光效率分别为26.5%、35.4%以及40.7%。

Non-invasive sonodynamic therapy (SDT) was developed because of its advantages of high penetration depth and low side effects; however, tumor hypoxia greatly restricts its therapeutic effect. In this study, we aimed to develop ideal O2 self-supplementing nanoparticles for imaging-guided enhanced sonodynamic therapy of tumors with the adept coalescence of biology with nanotechnology. Methods: Based on the natural enzyme system of red blood cells (RBC), biomimetic nanoparticles (QD@P)Rs were fabricated by encapsulating Ag2S quantum dots (QD) in RBC vesicle membranes. The anti-tumor drug PEITC was employed to increase the intracellular H2O2 concentration in tumor cells. Results: In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated excellent biocompatibility and prolonged blood circulation of (QD@P)Rs. Following oral administration of PEITC in mice to improve the H2O2 concentration, the enzyme in the nanoprobe catalyzed endogenous H2O2 to increase O2 content and effectively alleviate tumor hypoxia. Triggered by ultrasound under the guidance of fluorescence imaging, (QD@P)Rs generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) to induce tumor cell death, and the increased content of O2 significantly enhanced the effect of SDT. Conclusion: Ag2S QDs were used, for the first time, as a sonosensitizer in the SDT field. In this study, we integrated the advantages of the natural enzyme system and SDT to develop a novel approach for effective non-invasive treatment of cancer.

A two-dimensional transient model with considering vanadium ions crossover and incorporating the impact of electrode compression was presented for a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). Emphasis is located on examining the effects of the proposed asymmetric electrode structure designs on capacity degradation, vanadium ions crossover, the charge-discharge voltages and efficiency of the VRFB during long-time cycling. It was indicated that for asymmetric electrode compression with same original thickness, the capacity decay can be effectively alleviated with increasing the positive compression ratio, due to the fact that the electrolyte crossover is balanced by adjusting the convection flux during a charge-discharge cycle. The charge-discharge performance and energy efficiency of the VRFB can also be simultaneously boosted resulting from the reduced contact resistance and increased electrolyte flow velocity in the compressed positive electrode. Also, it was found that with appropriate design of asymmetric original thickness of uncompressed electrode, the capacity decay can be avoided and battery charge-discharge performance can be improved. This study will provide fundamental information for optimizing the asymmetric electrode structures such that the overall battery performance during long-time cycling can be enhanced.

Plant growth and organ size putatively associated with crop yield are regulated by a complex network of genes including ones for controlling cell proliferation. The gene fw2.2 was first identified in tomatoes and reported to govern fruit size variation through controlling cell division. In this study, we isolated a putative ortholog of the tomato fw2.2 gene from apple, Cell Number Regulator 8 (MdCNR8). Our functional analysis showed that MdCNR8 may control fruit size and root growth. MdCNR8 was mediated by the SUMO E3 ligase MdSIZ1, and SUMOylation of MdCNR8 at residue-Lys39 promoted the translocation of MdCNR8 from plasma membrane to the nucleus. The effect of MdCNR8 in inhibiting root elongation could be completely counteracted by the coexpression of MdSIZ1. Moreover, the lower cell proliferation of apple calli due to silencing MdSIZ1 could be rescued by silencing MdCNR8. Collectively, our results showed that the MdSIZ1-mediated SUMOylation is required for the fulfillment of MdCNR8 in regulating cell proliferation to control plant organ size. This regulatory interaction between MdSIZ1 and MdCNR8 will facilitate understanding the mechanism underlying the regulation of organ size.
