This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the induction to delivery (I-D) time and neonatal plasma drug concentration and anesthesia, as well as its effects on neonates.Methods: Fifty-two parturients in whom general anesthesia was induced for CS were divided into group A (I-D< 8 min) and group B (I-D≥ 8 min). Maternal arterial (MA), umbilical venous (UV), and umbilical arterial (UA) blood samples were collected at delivery to analyze the remifentanil and etomidate concentrations using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of plasma concentrations of remifentanil in the MA, UA, and UV blood (P > 0.05). The plasma concentration of etomidate in MA and UV was higher in group A than that in group B (P< 0.05), whereas the UA/UV ratio of etomidate was higher in group B than that in group A (P< 0.05). The Spearman rank correlation test showed no correlation between the I-D time and plasma remifentanil concentration in the MA, UA, and UV plasma (P> 0.05). The concentrations of etomidate in the MA and UV were negatively correlated with the I-D time (P < 0.05).Conclusion: Prolonged I-D time did not significantly influence the maternal or neonatal plasma concentration of remifentanil. It is safe to administer remifentanil target-controlled infusion in combination with etomidate and sevoflurane for general anesthesia induction during CS.Keywords: cesarean section, placental transport, general anesthesia, remifentanil, etomidate, drug concentration

Its effect on IBD treatment was assessed from materials, cytology, bacteriology, and zoology perspectives.Results: The results demonstrated that the Van-ND-45S5 scaffold exhibited an excellent antibacterial effect, biocompatibility, and osteogenesis in vitro. Moreover, an efficient animal model of IBD was established, and a Van-ND-45S5 scaffold was implanted into the IBD. Radiographic and histological analyses and bone repair-related protein expression, confirmed that the Van-ND-45S5 scaffold had good biocompatibility and osteogenic and anti-infective activities in vivo.Conclusion: Collectively, our findings support that the Van-ND-45S5 scaffold is a promising new material and approach for treating IBD with good antibacterial effects, biocompatibility, and osteogenesis.Graphical Abstract: Keywords: antibacterial effect, nanodiamond, scaffold, infected bone defects

Lithium-rich manganese-based oxides (Li1.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13O2, LMNCO) as cathode materials were prepared by the sol-gel method. Then, LMNCO was coated with γ-basic manganese oxide (γ-MnOOH) to form the composite cathodes. Through the structural characterization and performance test, it is found that the composite cathode with 10% γ-MnOOH coating exhibits the best electrochemical performance. After 50 cycles at 0.1 C (1 C = 200 mA g-1), the specific discharge capacity is 264.4 mAh g-1 with capacity retention of 96.1%. Even at a high current density of 1C, its discharge capacity reaches up to 200.5 mAh g-1 after 30 cycles, which suggests that surface coating of γ-MnOOH is an effective strategy for further enhancing the electrochemical performance of LMNCO.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) can be complicated by inflammatory disorders of remote organs, such as lung injury, in which Jumonji domain-containing protein 3 (JMJD3) plays a vital role in proinflammatory responses. Currently, we found that JMJD3 expression was upregulated in the pancreas and lung in an AP male mouse model, which was also confirmed in AP patients. Further experiments revealed that the upregulation of JMJD3 and proinflammatory effects were possibly exerted by mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) or oxidized-mtDNA from tissue injury caused by AP. The release of mtDNA and oxidized-mtDNA contributed to the infiltration of inflammatory monocytes in lung injury through the stimulator of IFN genes (STING)/TLR9-NF-κB-JMJD3-TNF-α pathway. The inhibition of JMJD3 or utilization of Jmjd3-cKO mice significantly alleviated pulmonary inflammation induced by AP. Blocking mtDNA oxidation or knocking down the TLR9/STING pathway effectively alleviated inflammation. Therefore, inhibition of JMJD3 or STING/TLR9 pathway blockage might be a potential therapeutic strategy to treat AP and the associated lung injury.

Large-scale (4 cm × 4 cm) MoSe2 thin films with Mo Vacancy-induced robust RTFM (Ms = 6.69 emu g-1, Hc = 5 Oe) and smooth surface (roughness average ∼0.22 nm) are prepared by PAD method.

In situ Raman spectroscopy reveals that CoPc facilitates the formation of disordered-CoOOH and high-valence-CoO2, endowing Co-MOF-74@CoPc with outstanding OER performance.

MFI twin crystals on b-axis oriented zeolite MFI nanosheet films were suppressed in the presence of dihydroxybenzene isomers. The resulting films presented an ultra-thin grain thickness of 30–45 nm within hours.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are widely used in the field of emotion recognition since it is resistant to camouflage and contains abundant physiological information. However, EEG signals are non-stationary and have low signal-noise-ratio, making it more difficult to decode in comparison with data modalities such as facial expression and text. In this paper, we propose a model termed semi-supervised regression with adaptive graph learning (SRAGL) for cross-session EEG emotion recognition, which has two merits. On one hand, the emotional label information of unlabeled samples is jointly estimated with the other model variables by a semi-supervised regression in SRAGL. On the other hand, SRAGL adaptively learns a graph to depict the connections among EEG data samples which further facilitates the emotional label estimation process. From the experimental results on the SEED-IV data set, we have the following insights. 1) SRAGL achieves superior performance compared to some state-of-the-art algorithms. To be specific, the average accuracies are 78.18%, 80.55%, and 81.90% in the three cross-session emotion recognition tasks. 2) As the iteration number increases, SRAGL converges quickly and optimizes the emotion metric of EEG samples gradually, leading to a reliable similarity matrix finally. 3) Based on the learned regression projection matrix, we obtain the contribution of each EEG feature, which enables us to automatically identify critical frequency bands and brain regions in emotion recognition.

Improving osmotic stress tolerance is critical to help crops to thrive and maintain high yields in adverse environments. Here, we characterized a core subunit of the transport protein particle (TRAPP) complex, ZmBET5L1, in maize using knowledge-driven data mining and genome editing. We found that ZmBET5L1 can interact with TRAPP I complex subunits and act as a tethering factor to mediate vesicle aggregation and targeting from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus. ZmBET5L1 knock-out increased the primary root elongation rate under 20% polyethylene glycol-simulated osmotic stress and the survival rate under drought stress compared to wild-type seedlings. In addition, we found that ZmBET5L1 moderates PIN1 polar localization and auxin flow to maintain normal root growth. ZmBET5L1 knock-out optimized auxin flow to the lateral side of the root and promoted its growth to generate a robust root, which may be related to improved osmotic stress tolerance. Together, these findings demonstrate that ZmBET5L1 inhibits primary root growth and decreases osmotic stress tolerance by regulating vesicle transport and auxin distribution. This study has improved our understanding of the role of tethering factors in response to abiotic stresses and identified desirable variants for breeding osmotic stress tolerance in maize.

Lightweight design strategies and advanced energy applications call for high-strength Al alloys that can serve in the 300‒400 °C temperature range. However, the present commercial high-strength Al alloys are limited to low-temperature applications of less than ~150 °C, because it is challenging to achieve coherent nanoprecipitates with both high thermal stability (preferentially associated with slow-diffusing solutes) and large volume fraction (mostly derived from high-solubility and fast-diffusing solutes). Here we demonstrate an interstitial solute stabilizing strategy to produce high-density, highly stable coherent nanoprecipitates (termed the V phase) in Sc-added Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloys, enabling the Al alloys to reach an unprecedented creep resistance as well as exceptional tensile strength (~100 MPa) at 400 °C. The formation of the V phase, assembling slow-diffusing Sc and fast-diffusing Cu atoms, is triggered by coherent ledge-aided in situ phase transformation, with diffusion-dominated Sc uptake and self-organization into the interstitial ordering of early-precipitated Ω phase. We envisage that the ledge-mediated interaction between slow- and fast-diffusing atoms may pave the way for the stabilization of coherent nanoprecipitates towards advanced 400 °C-level light alloys, which could be readily adapted to large-scale industrial production.

Well-established surveillance and monitoring systems for respiratory viruses need to be improved, and epidemiological data on respiratory viruses in China are scarce. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of respiratory viruses among hospitalized children aged ≤2 years with acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in Xiamen, China, from October 2014 to September 2017. The clinical records of 7,248 children hospitalized for ARTIs were retrospectively analyzed. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (22.3%) was the most common virus among hospitalized children aged ≤2 years, followed by parainfluenza (5.0%), adenovirus (3.5%), and influenza (1.7%). RSV-infected children had a higher disease burden, including a higher intensive care unit (ICU) admission rate (12.7%) and higher hospital charges ($635.36). Particularly, infants aged6 months had the highest risk of RSV infection (odds ratio = 2.4; 95% CI, 1.9-2.9) and a higher ICU admission rate (12.1% vs. 4.5%, 4.6%) and hospital cost ($923.3 vs. $785.5, $811.7) than the other age groups. Therefore, infants aged 0-6 months, particularly premature infants and children with congenital diseases, should receive more attention. There is an urgent need to develop effective immunization strategies to protect these infants during the first 6 months of life and in the RSV season.
