As técnicas empregadas devem minimizar os efeitos indesejáveis da multicolinearidade entre as características estudadas durante o processo de seleção. A produção de sementes de feijão, normalmente, é limitada pela escassez hídrica e solos salinos. No entanto, devido a grande variabilidade genética, característica da espécie, é possível encontrar materiais genéticos mais tolerantes a esses estresses osmóticos. A germinação e o desenvolvimento inicial da plântula são fases críticas e desta maneira é importante selecionar os matérias genéticos mais tolerantes nestas fases. Além de selecionar genótipos tolerantes é necessário selecionar materiais genéticos que sejam ricos nutricionalmente, principalmente, em relação à composição mineralógica. Os principais objetivos almejados com este trabalho foram reduzir a multicolinearidade e selecionar genótipos para a tolerância ao estresse osmótico e a biofortificação dos grãos do feijoeiro, com base nos valores genéticos. Desta maneira, foram utilizadas duas técnicas para reduzir a influência da multicolinearidade: o descarte de variáveis redundantes pelas variáveis canônicas, e o uso das análises de fatores para reduzir o número de variáveis. As variáveis analisadas foram: porcentagem de germinação e de plântulas normais, tempo médio de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimentos de raiz e de hipocótilo, massas seca de raiz e da parte aérea, razão raiz/parte aérea e o produto da porcentagem de plântulas normais pelo comprimento das plântulas. Avaliou-se também a composição mineralógica dos grãos em relação à concentração de cálcio, ferro, zinco, potássio, magnésio, manganês e fósforo. Adicionalmente, para estimar os parâmetros e os valores genéticos realizou-se análise via modelos mistos, utilizando-se a técnica de REML/BLUP. Os genótipos foram selecionados com base da média genética, estabilidade e adaptabilidade, utilizando-se a técnica da média harmônica da performance relativa dos valores genéticos. Os genótipos que apresentaram as maiores tolerâncias, adaptabilidade e estabilidade quanto aos estresses osmóticos foram: CNFC 15466, CNFC 15462, CNFC 15630, BRS Valente, Capixaba Precoce, CNFP 15290, CNFP 15292 e CNFP 15302. Enquanto os genótipos mais ricos e divergentes geneticamente do grupo comercial carioca foram: CNFC 15475 e CNFC 15625, e do grupo comercial preto foram: CNFP 15310 e CNFP 15304. Conclui-se que a utilização de técnicas multivariadas facilita a seleção de genótipos promissores como parentais na formação de linhagens tolerantes ao estresse osmótico e biofortificados. Diagnostic frameworks are essential to many scientific and technological activities and clinical practice. This study examines the main fundamental aspects of such frameworks. The three components required for all diagnoses are identified and examined, i.e. their normative dimension, temporal nature and structure, and teleological perspective. The normative dimension of a diagnosis is based on (1) epistemic values when associated with Hempel's inductive risk concerning the balance between false-positive and false-negative outcomes, leading to probabilistic judgements; and (2) non-epistemic values when related to ideas such as well-being, normality, illness, etc, as idealized norms or ideal points of reference. It should be noted that medical diagnoses match the three necessary components, while some essential diagnostic frameworks - the taxonomies of Gordon and NANDA - in nursing lack some components. The main lack is normative as the most popular frameworks in nursing diagnosis seem to be descriptions of observed reality rather than normative and value-based judgements in which both epistemic and non-epistemic values may coexist.

COMUNICAZIONE ORALE HAEMATHOLOGICA, (ABSTRACT) VOL 88 (SUPPL) N.RO 15

Serum levels of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) have been evaluated in 33 patients with chronic lymphoproliferative disorders of T-lymphocytes, including 12 T-helper phenotype chronic lymphocytic leukemias (Th-CLL) and 21 lymphoproliferative diseases of granular lymphocytes (LDGL). All Th-CLL cases were negative for antibodies against type I human T-leukemia virus (HTLV-I). Serum levels of sIL-2R were significantly increased in patients with Th-CLL with respect to controls (P less than 0.02) and this increase was related to the clinical course of the disease. In fact, patients with rapidly progressive disease (mean survival, 11.6 +/- 3 months) showed significantly higher concentrations of sIL-2R than patients with less aggressive disease (mean survival, 39.5 +/- 5 months) (16,223 U/ml +/- 5612 versus 1447 U/ml +/- 817; P less than 0.05). A significant positive correlation was found between sIL-2R concentrations and the number of CD4-positive cells (r = 0.64; P less than 0.05). These data point to the possible use of sIL-2R levels as a marker of active malignancy in patients with Th-CLL. Patients with LDGL showed increased sIL-2R values (721 U/ml +/- 112) with respect to controls (334 U/ml +/- 28; P less than 0.005). However, the sIL-2R levels were lower than those detected in Th-CLL patients (P less than 0.05). Among the different correlations the authors tried to establish, the only observed difference was found between serum sIL-2R levels in the group of CD3+ LDGL patients with respect to CD3- LDGL cases (P less than 0.05).

Background Anaphylaxis after Hymenoptera stings has been reported in subjects with mastocytosis, but few data exist regarding disease prevalence in populations allergic to these insects. Objective The incidence of clonal mast cell (MC) disorders in subjects with both systemic reactions to Hymenoptera stings and increased serum baseline tryptase (sBT) levels was assessed by using bone marrow (BM) aspirates and biopsy specimens. Methods Subjects with a history of a systemic reaction caused by a Hymenoptera sting underwent the standard diagnostic work-up for Hymenoptera allergy, and sBT levels were measured. Subjects with an increased sBT level had BM evaluation that included histology/cytology, flow cytometry, and detection of KIT mutations. Results Forty-four (11.6%) of 379 subjects with systemic reactions had increased sBT levels (>11.4 ng/mL), and 31 (70.5%) of these had a history of anaphylaxis. Thirty-four subjects with increased sBT levels underwent a BM analysis. Histology detected diagnostic or subdiagnostic MC infiltrates in 22 (65%) of 34 patients. Abnormal MCs were identified by means of flow cytometry and cytology in 26 (78.8%) of 33 and 20 (58.8%) of 34 subjects, respectively. A KIT mutation was detected in 17 (54.8%) of 31 subjects. The diagnosis was indolent systemic mastocytosis in 21 (61.7%) of 34 subjects and monoclonal MC activation syndrome in 9 (26.5%) of 34 subjects. All subjects with anaphylaxis had one of those 2 disorders. Conclusion The concomitant presence of systemic reactions (especially anaphylaxis) after Hymenoptera stings and increased sBT levels strongly suggests that a BM examination is indicated for the diagnosis of clonal MC disease.
