This study aims to determine how the global media covered the Padma Bridge inauguration news and its contribution to achieving the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of Bangladesh. After overcoming several obstacles, Bengalis’ desire to use their own money is set to become a reality. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The first stage was using convenience the sampling method to gather information on the Padma Multipurpose Bridge’s opening, from 25 June to 25 July 2022, from the usual worldwide media and TV networks. The information coverage of several news sources from various countries was subsequently investigated utilizing the content analysis approach. In one way, newspaper stories, expert comments, research papers on the Padma Bridge, government reports, the Bangladesh Planning commission, and finance ministry records have all been analysed to collect the Padma Bridge’s role in fulfilling SDGs. The data show that the Padma Bridge, which showcases Bangladesh’s financial potential, is given significant weight in the international media. The Padma Bridge will contribute to a 29% increase in Bangladesh’s development industry, a 9.5% increase in agricultural output, an 8% increase in the industrial and transportation sectors, and a 0.84% annual decrease in poverty. By the year 2041, Bangladesh hopes to be a prosperous, ecologically friendly, and socially inclusive monarchy. The Padma Bridge will facilitate the development of new rail networks, improve connectivity, and expand global trade. Through this bridge, the enhancement of people’s lifestyles and subsistence abilities is made possible in a significant way.

International broadcasting, defined as “the use of electronic media by one society to shape the opinion of the people and leaders of another,” is an area of public diplomacy research ripe for scholarly attention (Price in Media and sovereignty: the global information revolution and its challenge to state power, MIT Press, Cambridge, 2002). The primary agent for U.S. international broadcasting is the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which operates in 62 languages in over 100 countries. While there is broad consensus in the literature that evaluation in public diplomacy is extremely difficult, USAGM has a unique challenge of assessing impact across such a broad and diverse geography of audiences and media environments. Moreover, as an independent public service media agency, USAGM is often called upon to show it is a responsible steward of resources by demonstrating the effectiveness of its programs to policymakers and key stakeholders (Metzgar in Seventy years of the Smith-Mundt Act and U.S. International broadcasting: Back to the future? CPD perspectives in public diplomacy, 2018). This paper describes and assesses USAGM’s Impact Model, which serves as the conceptual framework for aggregating, understanding, and communicating the Agency’s research. It illustrates the research-strategy-evaluation loop examining the case of Voice of America in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and discusses some of the challenges that USAGM faces in both research as well as implementation of the recommendations proposed based on that research.

Anthropologists and media analysts have long recognized the Internet and satellite channels as some of the most powerful tools that add tremendous value to the knowledge and experiences of youth. A common interpretation of this idea is that new media technologies have become an important source for information, news updates, cross-cultural communication, socializing, and entertainment. The effects of these tools on young people have predominantly been studied with respect to academic as well as health features. Drawing on data from a survey capturing the digital behaviors of Moroccan students, this article complements previous studies by examining the impact of Internet and satellite channels on the behaviors of Moroccan students. It explores the implicit and denotative consequences of modern media upon the values, behaviors, and lifestyles of young Moroccans. Further, the paper addresses the effects of the massive dissemination of global cultural products on teenagers’ attitudes towards their cultural values. Additionally, the research assumes that inducing behavioral change is overlooked once media outlets start demonizing the uniqueness of local cultures, thus ignite resistance to unconventional values among youth.

This entry examines journalism education outside of universities. It reviews the types of non-university education; advantages and disadvantages of the approaches; recent trends and developments in journalism training; and an introduction to the mix of approaches in different regions of the world.

This study examined the global media citation network of COVID-19-related news at two stages of the pandemic alert phase, i.e., the national level alert stage and the global level alert stage. The findings reveal that the small-world pattern and scale-free property of media citation networks contributed to the rapid spread of COVID-19-related news around the world. Within the networks, a small number of media outlets from a few countries formed the backbone of the network to control the risk communication; meanwhile, many media of geographical and cultural similarities formed cross-border collaborative cliques in the periphery of the network. When the alert phase escalated from the national level to the global level, the network demonstrated a number of changes. The findings contribute to the understanding of risk communication for international public health emergencies by taking into account the network perspective and evolutionary nature of public health emergencies in analysis.

Global media, its functioning and its influence on world politics is a popular topic of research. Media is traditionally seen among instruments a state uses in its foreign and domestic policies. Liberal pluralists identify global media outlets as relatively independent actors that interact with other states and non-state actors and have the potential to influence global political processes. However, neither of these two main approaches seems to fully answer the question about what shapes the specific nature of modern media in its media-media interaction as well as interaction with other non-state actors and states? And their specific nature taken into consideration, how can modern media impact world politics? This article aims to answer both of these questions. The article analyzes the existing theoretic approaches to studying media and its influence on world politics, identifies the key features of functioning of the modern global information space, observes the main aspects of interaction between the media, on the one hand, and states and non-state actors, on the other, and studies global media’s means of influencing world politics. The constructivist paradigm shapes the theoretical and methodological framework of the study. The author makes a conclusion about ‘dual nature’ of modern media, which may be among means (used by states and non-state actors) of constructing the ‘reality of world politics’ and act as a relatively independent participant of this ‘reality’. Global media outlets are the main actors in global information space, they shape it and define the dynamics of its development, and at the same time they are influenced by the processes unfolding within it. Moreover, the author stresses that the current state of IT development makes the global information space as an integral organism functioning in accordance with its own internal logic. This functioning is based on interaction and interinfluence of various media outlets (of all shapes and levels) that broadcast and exchange competing visions and cultural stereotypes, i.e. ‘social constructs’. The result of this dynamic interaction is a specific – media – reality, which has become one of the key dimensions of modern world political processes.

This paper reviews and assesses the chances for survival and development of the media in Serbia and ib the region, from the perspective of new information and communication technologies (ICT) applied in media business. In the paper theoretical method is used and harmonized with the needs of describing the problems and the observed processes and phenomena, as well as empirical method which is used for collecting and interpreting concrete facts and data on the observed processes and phenomena. The starting point lies in the fact that modern media is definitely, more and more, dependent on new technologies. A part of the new technologies is used in the process of collecting, selecting and editing media content, while the other part of the technology is used in the process of dissemination and propulsion of media content to the mass audience, and also in the feedback function as well. The technology revolution, which we describe, started with mp3, jpg and avi files, and continues with internet broadcasting, social networks, cloud technologies and new digital platforms which are used by today's media for distribution of media content. The particularity of the media in the region lies in the fact that they operating in the societes with delay of political and economic transition, so all the productive resources of society, due to this backlog, are slower adapted to the new conditions of business in the digital era. The consequences that have arisen from such dynamics of development make many media in Serbia and the region quite dysfunctional, especially those who were exposed during this transition to long-standing legal, economic and program crises. That is why most of the existing media in Serbia, especially small ones, are unprepared for modernization and they are not ready for re-modeling in accordance with the new technological circumstances.

This article takes its point of departure in the thesis that today’s global, digitalized and conver- gent media environment has promoted new patterns of information gathering and dissemina- tion within journalism, and war journalism in particular, which involve changing forms and various degrees of interplay between elite and non-elite sources as well as media professionals and amateur sources. On account of their proximity to unfolding events, amateur sources often break the news by means of raw and fragmented bits of visual and verbal information. Elite sources rarely possess the same exclusive access to information from war zones, but are instead brought in to comment on, validate and grant legitimacy to amateur sources as a form of explicit source criticism that we would like to term metasourcing. This new pattern of information gathering and sourcing within war reporting manifests itself most clearly in cases of major international news events, which render visible the multitude of sources and the speed of information production and distribution. A recent example is the capture and subse- quent death of Muammar Gaddafi in October 2011. Based on quantitative and qualitative analyses of the sources included by selected newspapers to report on this event, the current article investigates the following research questions: Which types of sources are brought into play in the news coverage of Gaddafi’s death, and which forms of interplay between sources in today’s globalized and convergent media landscape are indicated by this case?

It has been more than ten years since the 9/11 attacks in 2001, but the events related to the attacks are still a focus for the whole world. This study examined the news coverage of the 9/11 tenth anniversary from Phoenix TV and CNN, which are among the most influential news media in China and the U.S., respectively. A systematic content analysis was performed using latest news, opinion articles, photographs, and videos as classified by CNN and Phoenix TV on their commemorative 9/11 tenth anniversary websites. Framing theory guided this thesis project. The results offer some evidence regarding differences in the selection and use of frames in the U.S. and Chinese media. The new communication business landscape of the online media has supposed a complete break in the day by day of traditional media, which have had the necessity to adapt quickly and efficiently to a new journalism. The new media have undergone an evolution which has produced five generations of online media. We study here the impact of this new global status of communications, and in a particular related to the part of audiovisual media such as Radio media. Particularly in one of the public world radio channel, Radio Exterior de España, as a case in turn especially due to two main characteristics: its global nature and its character of public service. La introducción de los cibermedios en el panorama empresarial de la comunicación ha supuesto un vuelco completo en el quehacer habitual de los medios tradicionales, que han tenido que adaptarse con rapidez y con toda la eficacia posible a una nueva forma de hacer periodismo. Los nuevos medios han experimentado una rápida evolución que ha producido, con cinco generaciones de cibermedios. Se estudia aquí la incidencia de este nuevo escenario global de las comunicaciones en un sector concreto de los medios audiovisuales como es la radio. In this paper we introduce concepts that build a theoretical notion of reputation risk and establish the need to extend our approach to managing such risk.. The existing literature on reputation risk has tended to be reactive and focus on immediate business threats rather than trying to understand cumulative or constituent processes surrounding trust relationships. We explore the notion of ‘active trust’ as a way of redesigning approaches to the management of risk. Our analysis focuses upon distinctive contemporary issues that illuminate the shifting relationships between financial service organizations and their stakeholders: namely the issues of governance, customer service and staff retention. Although part of the analysis concentrates on controversy and breakdown, risks can also induce opportunities; situations that are often viewed as corrosive may present an occasion for creative management. We suggest that proactive reputation risk policies and practices are needed that extend organizational vision beyond the boundaries of the firm to consider the implications of key societal developments.
