Coenosiini (Diptera: Muscidae) is a large cosmopolitan tribe of muscids, within which Coenosia Meigen and Neodexiopsis Malloch are the genera with the largest number of species. In this work, we revised for the first time, all the species placed by Malloch (1934) under Austrocoenosia, an endemic genus from the Andean Patagonian Forests, whose species are now placed in Coenosia and Neodexiopsis. We provide detail redescriptions for eight species placed by Malloch (1934) under Austrocoenosia, and decribed two new species (Coenosia delneneo sp. nov. and Coenosia patagonica sp. nov.), with high quality photographs detailing new structures of the male and female terminalia. To establish the position of the species of Austrocoenosia with respect to Coenosia and Neodexiopsis, we made a phylogenetic analysis using implied weighting for 36 taxa and 132 morphological characters of adults, including male and female genitalia. We recovered all species of Austrocoenosia as Coenosia species. We propose the following nomenclature actions: Austrocoenosia as a junior synonymy of Coenosia (syn. rest.); Coenosia brevicornis (Malloch) (comb. nov.), Coenosia dubia (Bigot) (comb. rest.); Coenosia hucketti, Pont (nom. nov.) and Coenosia nigerrima (Malloch) (comb. rest.). We also propose Coenosia spumicola Pont as an unplaced species of Coenosia sensu lato. Finally, we updated the geographic distributions for all species and observed several new male and female terminalia structures, which enriched the discussion of the genera and the tribe.

The genus Ecpyrrhorrhoe Hübner, 1825 is revised. Most type materials were examined, and a preliminary phylogeny is presented based on a combined dataset of COI, 16S rRNA, 28S rRNA and EF-1α gene regions. The tree topology and morphological characters suggest that Paliga Moore, 1886 is a new synonym of Ecpyrrhorrhoe, and Yezobotys Munroe & Mutuura, 1969 is restored as a valid genus. According to the morphological evidence and tree topology, 17 species are recorded, including five new species described from China: E. allochroa Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov., E. rosisquama Xiang & Zhang, sp. nov., E. exigistria Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov., E. brevis Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov. and E. longispinalis Zhang & Xiang, sp. nov. Seven new combinations are created, E. damastesalis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov., E. minnehaha (Pryer, 1877), comb. nov., E. obliquata (Moore, 1888), comb. nov., E. rufipicta (Butler, 1880), comb. nov., E. fimbriata (Moore, 1886), comb. nov., E. machoeralis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov., and E. rubellalis (Snellen, 1890), comb. nov., as well as eight new synonyms, namely Leucocraspeda auratalis Warren, 1895, syn. nov., Pionea schenklingi Strand, 1918, syn. nov., Paliga rubicundalis Warren, 1896, syn. nov., E. angustivalvaris Gao, Zhang & Wang, 2013, syn. nov., Pyrausta pygmaealis South, 1901, syn. nov., E. multispinalis Gao, Zhang &Wang, 2013, syn. nov., E. aduncis Gao, Zhang & Wang, 2013, syn. nov., and E. ruidispinalis Zhang, Li & Wang, 2004, syn. nov. All adults and their genital structures are illustrated and an identification key based on adult external morphology and genitalia is provided.

The phytophagous hoverfly genus Merodon Meigen, 1803 (Diptera, Syrphidae) presently comprises 205 described species distributed in the Palaearctic and Afrotropical regions, and it is differentiated into multiple species groups. In this work, we revise the Merodon tarsatus species group, providing an illustrated key to species, a detailed discussion on relevant taxonomic characters, and a morphological diagnosis. We summarize morphological characteristics of the 12 species in the M. tarsatus group, together with available distributional data. Moreover, we provide descriptions for five new species, namely Merodon angustitarsis Vujić & Gilasian sp. nov., M. dumosus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. latiantennatus Vujić, Popov & Prokhorov sp. nov., M. namaghijamii Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov. and M. pakistanicus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov. Additionally, we describe one more species, Merodon nigroalatus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., that belongs to the same lineage and is related to the Merodon tarsatus group based on molecular markers and structure of male genitalia, but lacks modifications of the metatarsus and sternum 4 that are the main diagnostic features of the group. Furthermore, we redefine and redescribe seven taxa of the M. tarsatus group. Following detailed analyses of type material, we revise the status of all available taxa related to M. tarsatus and we propose the following new synonyms: M. ankylogaster Hurkmans, 1993 syn. nov. (junior synonym of M. hypochrysos Hurkmans, 1993); M. persicus Hurkmans, 1993 syn. nov. (junior synonym of M. oidipous Hurkmans, 1993); and M. xanthipous Hurkmans, 1993 syn. nov. (junior synonym of M. marginicornis Hurkmans, 1993). We apply Maximum Parsimony and Maximum Likelihood analyses of the 5′ end of the mitochondrial COI gene sequences to genetically characterize species in the M. tarsatus group and the related species, M. nigroalatus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov.

Based on a phylogenetic analysis using implied weighting for 59 taxa and 155 morphological characters, we provided a taxonomic revision for Acuera. The genus was recovered as polyphyletic; herein we described three new genera and 16 new species, and proposed 23 new combinations, a new status and four new synonyms for Gyponini. Coarctana gen. nov. is described to include 15 species: C. rana (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov. (type species) transferred from Acuera; five species transferred from Curtara, C. apena (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., C. pedica (DeLong) comb. nov., C. punctata (Spångberg) comb. nov., C. secara (DeLong & Triplehorn) comb. nov., and C. serpenta (DeLong) comb. nov.; and nine new species, C. asymmetrica sp. nov., C. glabra sp. nov., C. nigromedia sp. nov., C. occultata sp. nov., C. oricula sp. nov., C. parvula sp. nov., C. striata sp. nov., C. taurina sp. nov., and C. vilavelha sp. nov. Effossana gen. nov. includes eight species: two species transferred from Acuera, E. gloma (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov. (type species) and E. fructa (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov.; two species transferred from Curtara, E. gatuna (DeLong & Wolda) comb. nov. and E. scapa (DeLong) comb. nov.; and four new species, E. assimulata sp. nov., E. circumnota sp. nov., E. intrinseca sp. nov., and E. tenuemarginata sp. nov. A new monotypic genus, Propincurtara gen. nov., is described to include P. longilinea sp. nov. The subgenus Parcana is raised to genus rank, comprising nine species: P. atitlana (Fowler) comb. nov., P. concilia (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., P. extara (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., P. mimica (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., P. spreta (Fowler) comb. nov., and P. ultima (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov. (type species); also three species transferred from Curtara, P. albororata (Fowler) comb. nov., P. animosa (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., and P. ventusa (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov. Curtara lineatana DeLong & Freytag is a junior synonym of P. concilia (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., Acuera inlustra DeLong & Freytag is a junior synonym of Hamana manifesta DeLong, and A. culmena DeLong & Freytag and A. prodiga DeLong & Freytag are synonyms of A. menaca DeLong & Freytag. Four species of Acuera are transferred to Curtara: C. facera (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., C. labella (Osborn) comb. nov., C. nama (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov., and C. patula (DeLong & Freytag) comb. nov. Two new species, A. extenuata sp. nov. and A. umbra sp. nov. are described and placed in the subgenus Acuera. We provide descriptions and illustrations of the new taxa, redescription of the type species of the genera Acuera, Coarctana gen. nov., Effossana gen. nov., and Parcana stat. nov., 40 new country and Brazilian states records, and key to males of each genus.

We present a list of tree species of French Guiana, based on data collected from herbarium specimens and tree inventories, and verified against all available taxonomic literature to date. The list contains 1811 taxa representing 87 families and 421 genera, including 143 unnamed species which either may be species not previously recorded in French Guiana, or taxa new to Science. Original demographic data such as global abundance, local maximum frequency and geographic dispersion, are given for the 1293 species present in tree inventories. Our work has led to the recognition of certain taxonomic and nomenclatural novelties, including a new combination in Lecythis Loefl. (Lecythidaceae), several lectotypifications and new synonyms, as well as reinstatement of Sloanea acutiflora Uittien (Elaeocarpaceae), Eugenia sinemariensis Aubl. (Myrtaceae), and four species of Inga (Leguminosae). In addition, we provide the most comprehensive list available to date of corresponding vernacular names (4354 for 1157 species) in nine languages spoken in French Guiana: Palikur, Kali’na, Teko, Wayãpi, Wayana, Nengee tongo (Aluku/Ndjuka/Paramaka), Creole, French, and Brasilian Portuguese. The checklist is complemented by indexes of exsiccata, vernacular names and scientific names. The soldier fly subfamily Beridinae in the family Stratiomyidae contains approximately 280 known species, these being distributed across nearly all biogeographical regions with the exception of the polar regions. On the Korean Peninsula, the species diversity of this subfamily has been poorly examined to date, as is reflected in the National species list of Korea by the National Institute of Biological Resources. In this paper, the soldier fly genus Beris Latreille is reported for the first time from Korea, based on observations of the following three species: B. fuscipes Meigen, 1820, B. hildebrandtae Pleske, 1930 and B. hirotui Ôuchi, 1943. Additionally, the authors propose two nomenclatural acts: 1) B. angustifacies Nagatomi and Tanaka, 1972 syn. nov. = B. hildebrandtae Pleske, 1930; 2) B. liaoningana Cui, Li and Yang, 2010 syn. nov. = B. hildebrandtae Pleske, 1930. The authors also provide an identification key, descriptions, photographs and distributional notes on these Korean species.

A morphology-based phylogeny of the Holarctic leafhopper genus Planaphrodes Hamilton is reconstructed for the first time based on 39 discrete male adult morphological characters. The results support the monophyly of Planaphrodes, with the included species forming two monophyletic lineages defined mainly by the number and location of aedeagus processes. The position of Planaphrodes in the Aphrodini was resolved as follows: (Stroggylocephalus + (Anoscopus + (Planaphrodes + Aphrodes))). The fauna of Planaphrodes from China, Japan and Korea are reviewed and six species are recognized, including two new species: P. bifasciatus (Linnaeus), P. sahlbergii (Signoret), P. nigricans (Matsumura), P. laevus (Rey), P. baoxingensis sp. nov. (China: Sichuan) and P. faciems sp. nov. (China: Hubei). Acocephalus alboguttatus Kato, 1933 syn. nov. and Aphrodes daiwenicus Kuoh, 1981 syn. nov. are considered junior synonyms of Planaphrodes sahlbergii (Signoret, 1879). Planaphrodes bella Choe, 1981 is a junior synonym of Planaphrodes nigricans (Matsumura, 1912). A checklist and key to species of Planaphrodes are provided.

Anoplophora grisea Tippmann, 1953 = A. birmanica Hüdepohl, 1990, syn. nov. distributed in Myanmar and Assam. Several Albanian local forms of Dorcadion aethiops are regarded as subspecies: D. a. balthasari Heyrovský, 1962 (Shkodër, Tirana, Sauk); D. a. laevepunctatum Breuning, 1944 (Mali i Thate); D. a. maderi Breit, 1923 (Vora, Kruja, Elbasan); D. a. sterbai Breuning, 1944 (Moskopolje = Voskopoje, Kulmak), stat. nov. A pair of synonyms are accepted: Exocentrus nobuoi okinawensis Breuning & K. Ohbayashi, 1966 = Ex. paraguttulatus Breuning & Chûjô, 1971. Phytoecia (Pilemia) evae D. Marklund & S. Here, we present a review of the conifer-feeding aphids of India, Bhutan and Nepal, which includes 30 species. Three new species, viz., Cinara (Cinara) bhutanica sp. nov., associated with Pinus wallichiana in Eastern Himalaya (Bhutan), Cinara (Cupressobium) asishghoshi sp. nov., which infest Juniperus squamata and Cinara (Cupressobium) himalayaensis sp. nov., which are associated with Taxus baccata in Northwest Himalaya (India) respectively, are described and illustrated. A hitherto unknown oviparous female of Cinara lachnirostris Hille Ris Lambers is also described and illustrated. Cinara (Cinara) takahashii nom. nov. is proposed here as a replacement name for Cinara (Cinara) orientalis (Takahashi, 1925), which is a junior secondary homonym of Cinara (Schizolachnus) orientalis (Takahashi, 1924). Cinara indica Verma syn. nov. is proposed as new junior synonym of Cinara confinis (Koch). Cinara maculipes and Cinara takahashii nom nov. from Bhutan and C. tenuipes from Nepal are reported for the first time. Taxonomical and biological information about the presented species are given along with their distribution. Species of the genus Frankliniella are almost all originally from the New World. Although eleven species in this genus have been listed from China before, only seven species here are recognised. The records of F. pallida and F. tritici from China are rejected as inadequately supported, F. hainanensis is a new synonym of F. schultzei, and F. zizaniophila is now considered a member of the genus Iridothrips. An identification key for the seven species is provided here, two of them are widespread across the Palearctic (F. intonsa and F. tenuicornis), one is presumably Oriental (F. lilivora), and four are introduced from the Americas (F. occidentalis, F. schultzei, F. cephalica and F. williamsi).

Rigorous species delimitation is a challenge in biology and systematics in particular. In insects, male genitalia traditionally, and the barcoding region of the CO1 gene recently, are the main markers to identify species, even though a standalone use of CO1 for that is often criticized. In our systematic revision of the mycophagous and in other ways peculiar oxyporine rove beetles of Russia, the legacy alpha-taxonomy could not be improved by traditional investigation of genitalia as they are unusually character-poor in this group. Using phylogenetic inference and ancestral state reconstruction, we demonstrate that CO1 and endophallus are useful markers for species delimitation in Oxyporus. We also show that many morphological traits previously used for species delimitation in Oxyporus are in fact highly variable and thus inconsistent. We hypothesize that in Oxyporus diversification of the endophallic structures is driven by intense intra- and inter-species interactions of multiple individuals co-occurring in narrow spaces inside fungal bodies during mating. Our results encourage broader use of both markers, especially easy-to-generate dna barcodes, for the desired alpha-taxonomical work in Oxyporinae globally. The revision revealed 10 species of Oxyporus in the fauna of the Russian Federation; eliminated erroneous species records; established two new synonyms, Oxyporus (Oxyporus) basicornis Cameron, 1930 = O. (O.) aequicollis Bernhauer, 1935, syn.nov. = O. (O.) parvus Lee et al., 2020, syn. nov.; and raised the hypothesis that O. (O.) aokii Dvořák, 1956, O. (O.) basiventris Jarrige, 1948 and O. (O.) kobayashii Hayashi, 2015 are conspecific with O. (O.) maxillosus Fabricius, 1793. Lectotypes are designated for O. (O.) basicornis Cameron, 1930, O. (O.) germanus Sharp, 1889, O. (O.) niger Sharp, 1889, and O. (O.) triangulus Sharp, 1889. Comprehensive taxonomic treatment and an identification key are provided for all species.

The genus Holothele Karsch, 1879 has a confusing taxonomic history, mainly due to a imprecise and outdated generic diagnosis, perpetuated since its original description. In this work, we propose a new diagnosis for the genus, redescribe the type species Holothele recta Karsch, 1879 and propose a few taxonomic changes. Holothele longipes is here considered as a senior synonym of Holothele recta Karsch, 1879, Stichoplastus sanguiniceps F. O. P.-Cambridge, 1898, Dryptopelmides rondoni Lucas & Bucherl, 1972, Dryptopelmides ludwigi Strand, 1907. We also provide updated geographic distribution records for Holothele longipes and propose the revalidation of Scopelobates Simon, 1903.

The sawfly genusHeterarthrusis naturally distributed in the Palaearctic, with a single described Oriental species. Their larvae mine in the leaves of trees and shrubs of Salicaceae, Betulaceae, and Sapindaceae (Acer). We here recognise twelve West Palaearctic species as valid, with the status of two additional nominal species group taxa in need of further study:fruticicolumErmolenko, andsmithiErmolenko. The phytophagous hoverfly genusMerodonMeigen, 1803 (Diptera, Syrphidae), which comprises more than 160 species distributed in Palaearctic and Afrotropical regions, can be differentiated into multiple groups of species that harbor high levels of hidden diversity. In this work, theserrulatusspecies group ofMerodonis revised, providing an illustrated key to species, a detailed discussion on the taxonomic characters and a morphological diagnosis, including also the first data about the preimaginal morphology of this species group. The study includes characteristics of the 13 species of theM. serrulatusgroup, along with the available distributional data. The monophyly and composition of this species group are assessed through Maximum Parsimony and Maximum Likelihood analyses of the mitochondrial COI and nuclear 28S rRNA gene sequences.

Lamiinae is the most diverse subfamily of longhorned beetles, with about 20,000 described species classified into 80 tribes. Most of the tribes of Lamiinae were proposed during the 19th century and the suprageneric classification of the subfamily has never been assessed under phylogenetic criteria. In this study, we present the first tribal-level phylogeny of Lamiinae, inferred from 130 terminals (representing 46 tribes, prioritizing generic type species of the tribes) and fragments of two mitochondrial and three nuclear markers (cox1, rrnL, Wg, CPS and LSU; 5,024 aligned positions in total). Analyses were performed under Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian methods based on two datasets: a dataset including all taxa available for the study, and a reduced dataset with 111 terminals where taxa only contributing with mitochondrial markers were excluded from the matrix. The monophyly of Lamiinae was corroborated in three of the four analyses and 11 of the 35 tribes with more than one species represented in the analyses were consistently recovered as monophyletic. However, 15 tribes were not retrieved as monophyletic, requiring a revision of their boundaries: Acanthocinini, Acanthoderini, Agapanthiini, Apomecynini, Desmiphorini, Dorcaschematini, Enicodini, Hemilophini, Monochamini, Onciderini, Parmenini, Phytoeciini, Pogonocherini, Pteropliini and Saperdini. Based on these results, when strong support values for paraphyly were recovered, we argue a number of tribe synonymies, including Moneilemini as synonym of Acanthocinini; Onocephalini of Onciderini; Dorcadionini, Gnomini, Monochamini and Rhodopinini of Lamiini; and Obereini and Phytoeciini of Saperdini. Other taxonomic changes proposed in this study based on the criterion of monophyly and supported by morphological characters include the transfer of Tricondyloides and Stenellipsis to Enicodini, and of Dylobolus stat. rest., which is removed as subgenus of Mecas and restituted as genus, to Hemilophini. After examining Japanese material of Ptomaphagus Hellwig from various collections, a new species is described, Ptomaphagus (s. str.) piccoloi sp. n., and a new subjective synonym proposed, Ptomaphagus (s. str.) kuntzeni Sokolowski, 1957 = Ptomaphagus (s. str.) amamianus Nakane, 1963, syn. n., in this paper. Relevant morphological characters of examined species of Ptomaphagus are illustrated with colour plates, and known distributions are mapped.

Lectotypes are designated for Chelifer brevifemoratus, Chelifer communis, Chelifer crassimanus, Chelifer foliosus, Chelifer germainii, Chelifer robustus, Chelifer (Lamprochernes) cervus, Chelifer (Lamprochernes) ovatus; the species are redescribed and their generic placement is discussed. Gomphochernes depressimanus (With, 1908) and Gomphochernes perproximus Beier, 1932 are considered as subjective junior synonyms of G. robustus. Chelifer ovatus is transferred to the genus Americhernes Muchmore (nov. comb.). Chelifer brevifemoratus is removed from synonymy of Lamprochernes savignyi (E. Simon) and transferred to the genus Parachernes (nov. comb.).

Description of a new species and nomenclatural changes for the genus Metria Hübner, 1823 (Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Erebinae). Metria pascali n. sp. is described on four males from French Guiana. On the Palaearctic Episernus (Col., Ptinidae, Ernobiinae). The Lectotype of Episernus angulicollis Thomson, 1863 is designated. The species distribution includes the north of Europe, the French Alps (Vanoise National Park, Savoy and the Hautes-Alpes department), the Swiss Valais and the Wechsel mountains in Austria. The study of the Type of E. granulatus Weise, 1887 confirms its specific status. The species occupies Central Europe, in the Alps of Germany (München), Switzerland (Valais and Grisons) and Italy (Mauls). Holotypes of E. sulcicollis Schilsky, 1898 and E. ganglbaueri Schilsky, 1898 have been studied with the designation of new synonyms : E. sulcicollis is invalidated in favour of E. striatellus (C. Brisout de Barneville, 1863) ; E. ganglbaueri is a synonym of E. angulicollis. Types of E. pyrenaeus Mařan, 1941 and E. taygetanus Mařan, 1941 have been redescribed. They form a unique species, E. taygetanus Mařan, 1941, represented by a subspecies in the French Pyrenees : E. taygetanus ssp. pyrenaeus Mařan, 1941 stat. nov. The study of the type of E. turcicus Zahradník, 1998 confirms its specific status. This species, morphologically close to E. angulicollis, seems to be endemic from Turkey. An identification key of the European Episernus is given together with precise descriptions and stable morphological characters., Le Lectotype est désigné pour Episernus angulicollis Thomson, 1863. Two new combinations are proposed in Scatella for Ephydra australis Walker, 1853 and Opomyza guttata Macquart, 1843. The species of the subgenus Conocetus Desbrochers des Loges, 1875 are reviewed and Polydrusus ( Conocetus ) transjordanus sp. nov. is described. Upon examination of the holotype of Polydrusus bardus Gyllenhal, 1834, it was observed that the species hitherto determined sensu auctorum as P. bardus was a misidentification. The specimen in question was therefore unnamed and is thus newly described as Polydrusus ( Conocetus ) crinipes sp. nov. Polydrusus femoratus (Stierlin, 1888) is a junior synonym of P. angustus (Lucas, 1854). Polydrusus gracilicornis Kiesenwetter, 1864, P. cylindrithorax (Desbrochers des Loges, 1900) and P. quadraticollis (Desbrochers des Loges, 1902) are proposed as junior synonyms of P. bardus . Polydrusus zurcheri (Schilsky, 1912) is proposed as a junior synonym of P. grandiceps (Desbrochers des Loges, 1875). Polydrusus kahri Kirsch, 1865 is transferred from subgenus Conocetus to Denticonocetus subgen. nov., with P. siculus Desbrochers des Loges, 1872 and P. vodozi Desbrochers des Loges, 1903 both recognized as new junior synonyms of P. kahri. The lectotypes of P. gracilicornis , P. zurcheri , P. marcidus Kiesenwetter, 1864, P. gracilis (Stierlin, 1888), P. rhodiacus (Schilsky, 1912) and P. grandiceps are designated. A key, figures, label data and distribution maps are provided for all species, except for P. longus (Stierlin, 1884), for which no specimens were available for examination, and whose placement in the subgenus Conocetus remains uncertain (thus categorized as incertae sedis ). Polydrusus angustus is recorded for the first time for Italy, P. rhodiacus for mainland Turkey and P. festae (Solari, 1925) for Greece.

The mealybug Trionymus angustifrons Hall, 1926, is transferred to the genus Dysmicoccus Ferris, 1950, as a new combination, Dysmicoccus angustifrons (Hall, 1926), n. comb. The original names Pseudococcus multivorus Kiritchenko, 1936, and P. lanatus Balachowsky, 1932, are treated as new junior synonyms of Dysmicoccus angustifrons (Hall, 1926), a species belonging to a group with reduced numbers of cerarii and with two sizes of oral collar tubular ducts on the dorsum and venter. Lectotypes are designated for Trionymus angustifrons and Pseudococcus lanatus. A new subspecies of the European cerambycid Saperda populnea (Linnaeus, 1758) is described: Saperda populnea lapponica ssp. n. based on specimens from Scandinavia. The male genitalia characters were examined and found to provide support for this separation, as well as differences in morphology, geographical distribution and bionomy. The preferred host tree for the nominate subspecies S. populnea populnea is Populus tremula L., whereas S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. is considered to be monophagous on Salix lapponum L. DNA sequence data of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) was generated from Scandinavian specimens of S. populnea populnea and specimens representing S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. The two subspecies were not reciprocally monophyletic and genetic distances in COI were small. All synonyms of S. populnea populnea have been considered, and species similar to S. populnea populnea have been examined, and not found to be related to S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. A male lectotype has been designated for each of the two following synonyms: Cerambyx decempunctatus De Geer, 1775, and Saperda salicis Zetterstedt, 1818. The synonymised species from Asia, S. balsamifera (Motshulsky, 1860), is elevated to subspecies: S. populnea balsamifera stat. n. We end with a discussion on the definition of subspecies under the unified species concept.

In this work, several taxonomic problems affecting the recently erected genus Acronymolpus Samuelson, 2015, endemic to New Caledonia, are addressed. Two of the three New Caledonian species described in Stethotes Baly are transferred to Acronymolpus and their priority is recognized over the names proposed in the revision of this genus. Moreover, different forms of Acronymolpus always found in sympatry, one reddish and larger, and the other black and smaller, were each given species status in that revision, but they are recognized here as the females and males, respectively, of the same species. The taxonomic summary of these discoveries is: (i) A. bertiae (Jolivet, Verma & Mille, 2007), comb. n. = A. meteorus Samuelson, 2015, syn. n., and A. turbo Samuelson, 2015, syn. n.; and (ii) A. jourdani (Jolivet, Verma & Mille, 2013), comb. n. = A. gressitti Samuelson, 2015, syn. n., and A. joliveti Samuelson, 2015, syn. n. New distribution data and the male genitalia and the spermatheca of the two valid species of Acronymolpus are described for the first time with reference to taxonomically important characters. Finally, the last New Caledonian species described in Stethotes is recognized here as a member of the endemic genus Taophila Heller: T. mandjeliae (Jolivet, Verma & Mille, 2010), comb. n.

A new subspecies of the European cerambycid Saperda populnea (Linnaeus, 1758) is described: Saperda populnea lapponica ssp. n. based on specimens from Scandinavia. The male genitalia characters were examined and found to provide support for this separation, as well as differences in morphology, geographical distribution and bionomy. The preferred host tree for the nominate subspecies S. populnea populnea is Populus tremula L., whereas S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. is considered to be monophagous on Salix lapponum L. DNA sequence data of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) was generated from Scandinavian specimens of S. populnea populnea and specimens representing S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. The two subspecies were not reciprocally monophyletic and genetic distances in COI were small. All synonyms of S. populnea populnea have been considered, and species similar to S. populnea populnea have been examined, and not found to be related to S. populnea lapponica ssp. n. Cheiracanthium rupestre Herman, 1879, and Xysticus albomaculatus Kulczyński, 1891, both originally described from Hungary,are among the most rarely reported species of their genera in Europe. Here we report that both of these species have very close relationshipsto similarly uncommon species originally described from France at about the same time. The specimens currently consideredas Cheiracanthium rupestre turn out to be very closely related to, but distinct from, Cheiracanthium striolatum Simon, 1878. However,the original description of C. rupestre does not match these specimens nor any other known species of Cheiracanthium. We thereforeconsider C. rupestre a nomen dubium and suggest that all previous records of this species after the original description actually refer toCheiracanthium macedonicum Drensky, 1921. Xysticus albomaculatus, on the other hand, turns out to be a junior synonym of Bassanianabaudueri (Simon, 1877) syn. nov., expanding the range of this species considerably to the East and at the same time confirming that it isa genuine European species, rather than a recent immigrant from North America as previously suspected.

A catalogue of all named Nepticulidae and Opostegidae is presented, including fossil species. The catalogue is simultaneously published online in the scratchpad http://nepticuloidea.info/ and in Catalogue of Life (http://www.catalogueoflife.org/col/details/database/id/172). We provide a historical overview of taxonomic research on Nepticuloidea and a brief ‘state of the art’. A DNA barcode dataset with 3205 barcodes is made public at the same time, providing DNA barcodes of ca. 779 species, of which 2563 are identified as belonging to 444 validly published species. We recognise 862 extant and 18 fossil species of Nepticulidae in 22 extant genera and the fossil form genus Stigmellites. We count 192 valid Opostegidae species in 7 genera, without fossils. We also list seven dubious Nepticulidae names that cannot be placed due to absent type material and poor descriptions, 18 unavailable names in Nepticulidae that cannot be placed and we also list the 33 names (including four fossils) that once were placed as Nepticulidae or Opostegidae but are now excluded. All synonyms and previous combinations are listed. The generic classification follows the Molecular phylogeny that is published almost simultaneously. Subfamilies and tribes are not recognised, Trifurculinae Scoble, 1983 is synonymised with Nepticulidae Stainton, 1854 and Opostegoidinae Kozlov, 1987 is synonymised with Opostegidae Meyrick, 1893. The status of Casanovula Hoare, 2013, Etainia Beirne, 1945, Fomoria Beirne, 1945, Glaucolepis Braun, 1917, Menurella Hoare, 2013, Muhabbetana Koçak & Kemal, 2007 and Zimmermannia Hering, 1940 is changed from subgenus to full genus, whereas two genera are considered synonyms again: Manoneura Davis, 1979, a synonym of Enteucha Meyrick, 1915 and Levarchama Beirne, 1945, a synonym of Trifurcula Zeller, 1848. We propose 87 new combinations in Nepticulidae and 10 in Opostegidae, largely due to the new classification, and re-examination of some species. The Pristiphora ruficornis group, defined here based on the structure of the penis valve and the genetic data, includes morphologically and genetically highly similar species that remain taxonomically challenging. Study of most of the relevant type material, examination of female saws and male genitalia, some rearing experiments, and genetic data enabled us to solve most of the taxonomic problems involving northern European taxa. As a result, 17 species are recognised in northern Europe. The following synonymies are proposed: Pristiphora aterrima Lindqvist, 1977, syn. n. is synonymised with P. albitibia (Costa, 1859), P. brunniapex Lindqvist, 1960, syn. n. and P. coniceps Lindqvist, 1955, syn. n. both with P. subopaca Lindqvist, 1955, Nematus vitreipennis Eversmann in Kawall, 1864, syn. n. (nomen oblitum) with P. leucopus (Hellén, 1948) (nomen protectum), and Nematus (Pristiphora) ruficornis var. integer Hellén, 1948, syn. n. with P. ruficornis (Olivier, 1811). Lectotypes are designated for the following taxa: Nematus appendiculatus Hartig, 1837, Nematus cathoraticus Förster, 1854, Nematus (Pristiphora) bifidus Hellén, 1948, Nematus frigidus Boheman, 1865, Pristiphora adelungi Konow, 1902, Nematus vitreipennis Eversmann in Kawall, 1864, Nematus melanocarpus Hartig, 1840, Nematus wuestneii Stein, 1885, Pristiphora pusilla Malaise, 1921, and Nematus fraxini Hartig, 1837. An illustrated electronic key made with Lucid and a traditional dichotomous key are provided to facilitate identification of the species. In addition we report the first occurrence of distinctly asymmetrical penis valves in Pristiphora (in P. pusilla), a condition rarely observed in Hymenoptera.

Some synonymies in the genus Temnothorax Mayr, 1855 (Hymenoptera, Formicidae). We propose new synonymies in species of Temnothorax with " compound name" : Temnothorax tuberum tuberonigriceps (Forel), n. syn. for T. nigriceps nigriceps (Mayr) ; T. tuberoaffinis (Bondroit), n. syn. for T. interruptus (Schenck). We establish T. unifasciatus cordieri (Bondroit), n. comb., n. stat., T. unifasciatus cordieri being the subspecies representing T. unifasciatus in Corsica ; queen and male are described. The lectotype of Temnothorax aveli (Bondroit) is designated and we propose Temnothorax aveli pici (Bondroit), n. syn. for T. aveli (Bondroit), and T. rabaudi (Bondroit), n. syn. for T. aveli (Bondroit). The lectotype of Temnothorax luteus (Forel) is designated from two syntypes ; T. luteus racovitzai (Bondroit), n. stat. and T. luteus subcingulatus (Emery), n. stat., are considered as subspecies of T. luteus (Forel). A review of 6 species of many-plumed moths from Armenia is given. Two of them previously described from Caucasus, Alucita caucasica Zagulajev, 1986 and Alucita araxella Zagulajev, 2000 are synonymized under Alucita huebneri Wallengren, 1859 and Alucita grammodactyla Zeller, 1841 respectively.

Criocerine leaf beetles found in Nepal feeding on Dioscorea bulbifera (L.), an exotic, invasive weed of Asian origin, were identified as Lilioceris cheni Gressitt and Kimoto based on a synopsis of the Oriental Lilioceris species and review of the Lilioceris impressa species group. All the continental, Oriental species included in the group are diagnosed and illustrated, and a key for their identification is provided. Species status of Lilioceris thibetana Pic, 1916 is resurrected. The following new synonyms are proposed: L. coomani (Pic, 1928) = L. egena (Weise, 1922), and L. subcostata (Pic, 1921a), L. laticornis (Gressit, 1942), L. inflaticornis Gressit and Kimoto, 1961, and L. maai Gressit and Kimoto, 1961 = L. impressa (Fabricius, 1787). Lectotypes of the following species are designated: L. coomani Pic, 1928; L. impressa (Fabricius, 1787); L. laosensis (Pic, 1916); L. malabarica (Jacoby, 1904); L. ruficornis (Pic, 1921b); L. subcostata (Pic, 1921a); L. thibetana (Pic, 1916); and L. unicolor (Hope, 1831).

A revision of the borneensis-group of Coeliccia species from the SE Asian island of Borneo is presented. The group is characterised based on the form of the penis, the form of the posterior lobe of the female pronotum and the mesostigmal plates of the female. Six species are recognised as occurring in Borneo, of which one is described as new: C. kenyah spec. nov. Coeliccia campioni, often considered a junior synonym of C. borneensis, is shown to be a valid species and new records are provided. C. coomansi is shown to be a junior synonym of C. flavostriata. Redescriptions based on fresh material are provided for the female of C. borneensis and the male of C. campioni. The male of C. borneensis and the female of C. campioni are described for the first time. Variation in C. arcuata and C. flavostriata is discussed. Keys to both sexes and illustrations of important characters for all named species are given.

In the context of the preparation of Part of the List of Available Names of the family group taxa of the superfamily Aphidoidea for submission to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature new synonyms have been detected and several nomenclatural problems have been clarified. A subjective synonymy is established: Asiphonaphidina Borner, 1952 syn. nov. of Rhopalosiphina Mordvilko, 1914. Dasiina van der Goot, 1918 is an objective invalid name, and it must be replaced, if is necessary by Baizongiina Borner, 1944(1914). Nomenclatural status affecting the names Tetraneuriden, Tycheinae, Pteroclorini and Macrosiphini are clarified: Tetraneuriden is an available name, it is a valid name in some classifications but a junior subjective synonym in others; Tycheinae is an available name but it is a nomen dubium; Pteroclorini is an available but objective invalid name; and Macrosiphini Wilson, 1910(1887) takes the date of Nectarophorini Oestlund, 1887. Also the authorship and date of nomenclatural acts in the chapter on Aphids in the Handbuch der Pflanzenkrankheiten, 1932, are clarified.

Accurate species delimitation is fundamental to biology. Traditionally, species were delimited based on morphological characters, sometimes leading to taxonomic uncertainty in morphologically conserved taxa. Recently, multiple taxonomically challenging cases have benefited from integrative taxonomy—an approach that highlights congruence among different disciplines and invokes evolutionary explanations for incongruence, acknowledging that different methods can mirror different stages of the speciation continuum. Here, we used a cohesive protocol for integrative taxonomy to revise species limits in 20 nominal species and 4 morphospecies of an ancestrally wingless insect group, the jumping bristletail genus Machilis from the European Eastern Alps. Even though morphologically conserved, several small-scale endemic species have been described from the Eastern Alps based on variation in hypodermal pigmentation patterns—a highly questionable character. As valuable as these endemics are for conservation, they have never been verified by alternative methods. Using traditional morphometrics, mitochondrial DNA, ribosomal DNA, and amplified fragment-length polymorphism markers, we identify six nominal species as taxonomic junior synonyms (Machilis alpicola Janetschek, 1953 syn. n. under M. vagans Wygodzinsky, 1941; M. ladensis Janetschek, 1950 syn. n., M. robusta Wygodzinsky, 1941 syn. n., and M. vicina Wygodzinsky, 1941 syn. n. under M. inermis Wygodzinsky, 1941; M. aleamaculata Wygodzinsky, 1941 syn. n. under M. montana Wygodzinsky, 1941; M. pulchra Janetschek, 1950 syn. n. under M. helleri Verhoeff, 1910) and describe two new species (Machilis cryptoglacialis sp. n. and Machilis albida sp. n.), one uncovered from morphological crypsis and one never sampled before. Building on numerous cases of incongruence among data sources, we further shed light on complex evolutionary histories including hybrid speciation, historical and recent hybridization, and ongoing speciation. We hypothesize that an inherent affinity to hybridization, combined with parallel switches to parthenogenesis and repeated postglacial colonization events may have boosted endemicity in Eastern Alpine Machilis. We thus emphasize the importance of integrative taxonomy for rigorous species delimitation and its implication for evolutionary research and conservation in taxonomically challenging taxa.

The type material of Phasmatodea deposited in Brazilian museums and institutions is listed for the first time. New synonyms are proposed: Phibalosoma paulense Toledo Piza, 1938, Phibalosoma rochai Toledo Piza, 1938, Bacteria tuberculata Toledo Piza, 1938 and Bacteria tuberculata var. argentina Toledo Piza, 1938 are junior synonyms of Cladomorphus phyllinus (Gray, 1835). The check-list of species in the Tribe Aphidini (Hemiptera, Aphididae: Aphidinae) recorded to date from the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Isles is presented, 139 species are listed. A list of the countries (Andorra, Spain and Portugal) and provinces (Spanish) or districts (Portuguese) where each species and subspecies is known is also included. Five species are mentioned for the first time in Iberian-Balearic territory: Aphis callunae Theobald, A. comosa (Börner), A. lantanae Koch (with the subspecies A. lantanae coriaria Börner), A. erigerontis Holman and Schizaphis longicaudata Hille Ris Lambers. Nine species have been removed from the check-list: Aphis euphorbiae Kaltenbach, A. genistae Scopoli, A. pilosellae (Börner), A. salsolae (Börner), A. striata Hille Ris Lambers, Brachyunguis zygophylli (Nevsky), B. suaedus (Paik), Protaphis centaurea (Gómez-Menor) and Schizaphis pilipes (Ossiannilsson). This paper presents a revision of the genus Dyscia Hübner, [1825] (Lepidoptera, Geometridae: Ennominae). Examination of types and additional material for most described taxa has resulted in several new synonyms: Dyscia ilivolans Wehrli, 1953 syn. n. and Dyscia duanjiao Yang, 1978 syn. n. are new synonyms of Dyscia fagaria (Thunberg, 1784); Dyscia karsholti Wiltshire, 1991 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia galactaria Turati, 1934; Dyscia dagestana Wehrli, 1934 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia malatyana Wehrli, 1934, and Dyscia rjabovi Wardikjan, 1957 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia negrama Wehrli, 1953. One taxon, formerly treated as a species is reassigned to subspecific level, Dyscia conspersaria ssp. sultanica Wehrli, 1936 stat. rev. Dyscia innocentaria sicanaria (Oberthür, 1923) stat. n. and Dyscia malatyana senecai Wiltshire, 1990 stat. n. are downgraded to subspecies-level. On subspecies-level, Dyscia distinctaria perdistincta Herbulot, 1957 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia distinctaria (Bang-Haas, 1910), Dyscia fagaria alvarensis Wahlgren, 1913 syn. n., Dyscia fagaria albescens Lempke, 1952 syn. n., Dyscia fagaria fusca Lempke, 1952 syn. n., and Dyscia fagaria postdelineata Lempke, 1952 syn. n. are new synonyms of Dyscia fagaria. Dyscia fagaria psoricaria (Eversmann, 1848) syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia fagaria favillacearia (Hübner, [1799]), Dyscia holli duponti Thierry-Mieg, 1910 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia holli (Oberthür, 1910), Dyscia malatyana nachadira Brandt, 1941 syn. n. and Dyscia malatyana theodoraria Warnecke, 1941 syn. n. are new synonyms of Dyscia malatyana albersaria Warnecke, 1940 stat. n., and Dyscia penulataria naevata Wehrli, 1953 syn. n. is a new synonym of Dyscia penulataria (Hübner, [1819]). Lectotypes for 22 taxa and neotypes for three taxa - Geometra conspersaria [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, Geometra favillacearia Hübner, [1799], and Geometra emucidaria Hübner, [1813] - are designated. One species is excluded from Dyscia, Thysanopyga serena (Dognin, 1906) comb. n. From a total of 72 previously described taxa, 19 are recognized as species.

The genus Gasteruption Latreille, 1796 (Hymenoptera: Evanioidea: Gasteruptiidae: Gasteruptiinae) from North Iran and Turkey is revised, keyed and fully illustrated for the first time. In total 36 species are treated of which 33 are recorded from Turkey and 23 from Iran. The East Mediterranean species of Orthomus Chaudoir, 1838 are revised. The type series of Feronia longula Reiche & Saulcy, 1855, F. berytensis Reiche & Saulcy, 1855, F. proelonga Reiche & Saulcy, 1855, Orthomus longior Chaudoir, 1873, O. sidonicus Chaudoir, 1873, and O. berytensis akbensis Mateu, 1955 were studied and lectotypes for the first four are designated. Also, the following nomenclatural acts are proposed: Feronia proelonga Reiche & Saulcy, 1855, syn. n. of Orthomus berytensis (Reiche & Saulcy, 1855); Feronia elongata Chaudoir, 1859, syn. n. of Orthomus berytensis (Reiche & Saulcy, 1855); Orthomus sidonicus Chaudoir, 1873, syn. n. of Orthomus longior Chaudoir, 1873; Orthomus velocissimus andalusiacus Mateu, 1957, syn. n. of Orthomus velocissimus akbensis Mateu, 1955, new assignment for Orthomus berytensis akbensis Mateu, 1955. As a result, three species of the genus inhabit the East Mediterranean biogeographical region: O. berytensis, O. longior, and O. longulus. A key to these three species is given. O. longior is recorded for Turkey and Syria for the first time. In addition, a new synonymy of two West Mediterranean taxa is proposed: O. szekessyi (Jedlička, 1956), syn. n. of O. balearicus Piochard de la Brûlerie, 1868, and a new genus and a species are described: Parorthomus gen. n. socotranus sp.n. (type locality: Republic of Yemen, Socotra Archipelago, Socotra Island, Fimihin env., 530 m.a.s.l.). Illustrations of the species dealt with here are provided including external characters, habitus, mentum and submentum, and genitalia are provided.Nine genera of the “African Series” of subtribe Euchroina Chaudoir, 1874 are keyed for the first time. Checklists of the species of Orthomus and of the Old World euchroine genera are given.

The classification of Metriorrhynchini, the most diverse lineage of net-winged beetles (Lycidae) containing ~ 1400 species, is revised on the basis of three-marker molecular phylogeny of 175 ingroup taxa, and the adult and larval morphology. The study uses the molecular phylogeny for identification of major lineages and critically considers morphology when adult morphology and sparse information of immature stages alone did not provide enough information for building a robust classification. Reconstruction of the ancestral states of morphological characters on the phylogenetic tree recovered from DNA data presents evidence for multiple origins of the four-costae pattern on the elytra, shortened elytral costa 1, patterns of pronotal areolae and flabellate antennae. As a consequence, revised morphological delineations of the subtribes and genera are proposed: three major lineages are defined as Metriorrhynchina Kleine, 1926, Metanoeina subtrib. nov. and Cautirina subtrib. nov. The subtribes Trichalina Kleine, 1928 and Hemiconderina Bocak & Bocakova, 1990 are synonymized with Metriorrhynchina Kleine, 1926. Metanoeina are studied in detail and three genera are placed in the subtribe: Metanoeus Waterhouse, 1879, Xylometanoeus gen. nov., and Matsudanoeus gen. nov., with Xylometanoeus japonicus (Bourgeois, 1902) comb. nov. and Matsudanoeus yuasai (Nakane, 1969), comb. nov. as type species, respectively. Xylobanus basivittatus Nakane, 1970 is transferred to Xylometanoeus. The concepts of genera Cautires and Xylobanus are based on male and female genitalia. Additionally, the molecular hypothesis is supported by morphology of larvae, when newly proposed Cautirina are characterized by entire tergites in contrast to the longitudinally divided mesoand metathoracic tergites of Metanoeina and Metriorrhynchina. Larval characters support the placement of Xylometanoeus in Metanoeina and the close relationships of Matsudanoeus and Metanoeus. The simultaneous consideration of DNA-based phylogeny and morphology of adults and larvae rejects taxa based on diagnostically usable but strongly homoplastic characters and provides a framework for a robust classification of Metriorrhynchini.

Studies on the genus Ardisia Sw. for Flora Malesiana have led to the reduction of 95 taxa to synonymy, seven species to the infraspecific level: A. demissa Miq. var. bambusetorum (King & Gamble) C.M. Hu, A. polysticta Miq. subsp. punctipelata (Merr.) C.M. Hu, A. ternatensis Scheff. var. forstenii (Scheff.) C.M. Hu, A. darlingii Merr. subsp. podadenia (Stone) C.M. Hu, A. imperialis K. Schum. var. novoguineensis (Mez) C.M. Hu, A. pubicalyx Miq. var. collinsae (Fletcher)C.M. Hu, A. tahanica King & Gamble subsp. eucalyptifolia (Stone) C.M. Hu, and two new combinations are made: A. forbesii S. Moore var. cataractorum (Stone) C.M. Hu, A. fulva King & Gamble var. multiflora (Stone) C.M. Hu.

The nominative subspecies is redescribed with type locality adjusted. Dorcadion ( Cribridorcadion ) mniszechi cavernosum, ssp. n. is described from Armenia and Turkey. Dorcadion ( Cribridorcadion ) mniszechi georgianum ssp. n. is described from Georgia. New synonyms are proposed: Dorcadion semibrunneum mediocreimpressum Pic, 1909 = Dorcadion semibrunneum anamasum Pic, 1934, syn. nov. The taxon is retained as a subspecies.

The Chinese fauna of the family Trigonalyidae Cresson, 1887, is revised, keyed and fully illustrated for the first time. Eight genera of this family (Bakeronymus Rohwer, 1922; Bareogonalos Schulz, 1907; Jezonogonalos Tsuneki, 1991, re-instated; Lycogaster Shuckard, 1841; Orthogonalys Schulz, 1905; Pseudogonalos Schulz, 1906 and Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906 and Teranishia Tsuneki, 1991) are recorded from China. The genus Ischnogonalos Schulz, 1907, is synonymized with Taeniogonalos Schulz, 1906 syn. n. In total 40 valid species are recognized. Twenty species are new for science: Jezonogonalos elliptifera sp. n., J. jiangliae sp. n., J.luteata sp. n., J. nigrata sp. n., Lycogaster angustula sp. n., L. flavonigrata sp. n., L. nigralva sp.n., Orthogonalys cheni sp. n., O. clypeata sp. n., O. robusta sp. n., Pseudogonalos angusta sp. n., Taeniogonalos bucarinata sp. n., T. cordata sp. n., T. geminata sp. n., T. sculpturata sp. n., T. triangulata sp. n., T. tricolorisoma sp. n., T. uncifera sp. n., Teranishia crenulata sp. n. and T. glabrata sp. n.. Two species are reported new for China: Orthogonalys elongata Teranishi, 1929 and Nanogonalos flavocincta Teranishi, 1929 (renamed to Taeniogonalos subtruncata nom. n.). Seven new synonyms are proposed: Poecilogonalos yuasai Teranishi, 1938, and P. maga taiwana Tsuneki, 1991, of Taeniogonalos taihorina (Bischoff, 1914); Taiwanogonalos minima Tsuneki, 1991, and T. similis Tsuneki, 1991, of Taeniogonalos alticola (Tsuneki,1991), P. intermedia Chen, 1949, and P. unifasciata Chen, 1949, of Taeniogonalos formosana (Bischoff, 1913). Six taxa are recognised as valid species: Bakeronymus seidakka Yamane & Terayama, 1983, Jezonogonalos laeviceps (Tsuneki, 1991), J. satoi (Tsuneki, 1991), Taeniogonalos alticola (Tsuneki, 1991), T. flavoscutellata (Chen, 1949) and T. gestroi (Schulz, 1908). The addition ofProtoclytiopsisto the synonymy ofErymamakesEryma antiquum(Birshtein, 1958) nov. comb. the oldest representative of the genus and of the family, extending its stratigraphic range to the Late Permian (Changhsingian). Thus, this work also emphasizes that Erymidae crossed the Permian-Triassic boundary.

Summary. -The identity of the 21 species of Pseudococcidae, described by V.A. Signoret, is discussed and established, based on original material and on his unpublished illustrations. Lectotypes are designated for several species. New synonymies introduced here are : Dactylopius alaterni, Dactylopius ceratoniae, Dactylopius cyperi and Dactylopius robiniae are new synonyms of Planococcus citri (Risso) ; Dactylopius hoyae is a new synonym of Pseudococcus longispinus (Targioni Tozzetti). The status of Pseudococcus viburni(Signoret, 1875b), is raised to senior synonym of the species known presently as Dactylopius affinis Maskell, 1894, while Dactylopius indicus is a new synonym of Pseudococcus viburni (Signoret) ; Dactylopius affinis Maskell, 1894 is a new synonym of Pseudococcus viburni (Signoret, 1875b) ; Pseudococcus aesculi, Pseudococcus hederae, Pseudococcus mespili and Pseudococcus platani are new synonyms of Phenacoccus aceris (Signoret). The work treats 52 species–group names related to genus Agrilus incorrectly cited in the world catalogue of Bellamy (2008). The name dimorphus Théry, 1941 from the genus Aphanisticus and mulleri Théry, 1925 from the genus Australodraco are also treated. Four primary or secondary homonyms are replaced by substitute names. Most of the proposed changes refer to the availability, validity, spelling and authorship of the names. The following new nomenclatural acts are proposed: Four new substitute names for homonyms: gola Jendek for filiformis Gory & Laporte, 1839 not Herbst, 1801; lukesi Obenberger, 1936 for modicus Kerremans, 1892 not Solier, 1833; thomsoni Jendek for impressipennis Thomson not Uhler, 1855; walkerianus Jendek (Aphanisticus) for sulcicollis Walker not Lacordaire, 1835. New synonyms: turei Curletti, 2002 is an objective synonym of thurei Curletti, 1996. Lectotype designations: A lectotype is designated for Agrilus dualaecola Obenberger, 1923.

The Chinese fauna of the family Gasteruptiidae is revised, keyed and fully illustrated for the first time. Only one genus of this family, Gasteruption Latreille, 1796, is recorded from China. In total 28 valid species of the genus Gasteruption are recognized. Six species are new to science (Gasteruption angulatum sp. n., G. assectoides sp. n., G. coloratum sp. n., G. latitibia sp. n., G. sinepunctatum sp. n. and G. strigosum sp. n.) and eight species are reported new for China (G. bimaculatum Pasteels, 1958, G. birmanense Pasteels, 1958, G. dimidiatum Semenov, 1892, G. formilis Alekseev, 1995, G. subhamatum Pasteels, 1958, G. tonkinense Pasteels, 1958, G. tournieri Schletterer, 1885, G. transversiceps Pasteels, 1958). Three new synonyms are proposed: G. curiosum Pasteels, 1958, of G. amoyense Pasteels, 1958; G. sinense var. minus Kieffer, 1924, with G. japonicum Cameron, 1888, and G. sinense Kieffer, 1924, of G. sinarum Kieffer, 1911. Lectotypes are designated for Gasteruption corniculigerum Enderlein, 1913, G. sinense Kieffer, 1924, and G. transversiceps Pasteels, 1958. Gasteruption bihamatum Kieffer, 1911, previously reported from South China, is a South American species.
