The aims of this study are to assess the knowledge regarding needle stick injury in nursing students, The objective of study was to assess the level of knowledge regarding needle stick injury among the nursing students, to evaluate the effectiveness of educational program on knowledge regarding needle stick injury among the nursing students, The use of safety practice exposure, to blood and blood containing material and contributing factors. A multiple choice questionnaire was completed by 60 nursing students studying at Shri Ram Murti Smarak College of Nursing, Bareilly. These sample was selected by using the purposive sampling method. The data was collected by using the multiple choice questionnaire and these data was analyzed by SPSS version 27.The result of study was75% of the participants were belongs to 22-23 years age group and 11.7% of the participants were belong to 24-25 years and 6.4% were belong to 26-27 years age group &6.4% belong to more than 28 year, majority of the participants i.e. 53.3% were female and remaining 46.7% were male. 80 % of the participants were unmarried, 10% of the participants were married . 43.4% were having GNM qualification, 51.7% were having B.Sc. Nursing degreeand1.7% were having post basic nursing degree and remaining 3.3% having NPCC degree. majority of the participants are that is.78.3% were not participated in any educational program and remaining 21.7% were participated in educational program. Interpreted the mean post-test knowledge score(16..37 ± 3.37)of the experimental group was greater than the mean pre-test knowledge score (10.87 ± 3.61) of the experimental group with the mean difference of 5.5.

Aim: This study aimed at investigating the effect of simulation training on increasing the awareness of nursing students about medical errors they may encounter in psychiatry clinics. Methods: This study was quasi-experimental and included pre-test and post-test control groups. The intervention group (n = 41) was provided with “Medical Errors Room” simulation training while the control group (n = 41) was trained by using the presentation method. Results: Considering the increase in the awareness of all students about medical errors, it was determined that the awareness of the students in the intervention group was higher than the students in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that with the “Medical Error Room” simulation training, the awareness of nursing students, who will be among the health professionals of the future, about medical errors can be increased. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Aim: The aim of this study was to reveal nursing students’ opinions, experiences, and attitudes toward medical errors. Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted among 465 third and fourth-year nursing students in Turkey. Data were collected between March-June 2017 using a demographic information form and the Medical Error Attitude Scale. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation, number, and percentage and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The majority of students stated that they did not make any medical errors in clinical practice (76.8%) and if they made any medical error, they said they would report it to the charge nurse (72.7%). Only 5.8% of the students stated that they reported the medical error they made. While the students’ total Scale of Attitudes toward Medical Errors mean score was 3.78 (SD=0.47), the subscale mean scores were determined to be 2.79 (SD=0.71) in the medical error perception, 3.94 (SD=0.60) in the approach to medical errors, and 3.90 (SD=0.59) in the causes of medical errors subscale. Objective: The aim of the study is to determine the state of being affected by face-to-face practice training and coronavirus anxiety of nursing students in the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: This study was conducted in a descriptive and cross-sectional fashion. The research was conducted with 257 nursing students who received compulsory face-to-face training in a health school between 15 November 2020 and 15 December 2020. The Personal Information Form and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale created by the researchers were used to collect the data. The data were collected face-to-face by the researchers, following the rules of social distance and mask.Results: When we look at the measures taken by the participants regarding COVID-19, it is seen that 76.7% (n=197) use personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves, and 52.9% (n=136) comply with the hygiene rules. When we look at how the COVID-19 process affects face-to-face education, it is stated that 43.2% (n=111) of the students feel as usual, and 33.5% (n=86) feel worried/anxious about the future. It was determined that the students’ mean scores from the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale were 3.67±5.04 and their anxiety levels were low. Objective: This study aimed to determine how Turkish nursing students’ perceived nursing diagnosis. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with 655 nursing students in the Departments of Nursing in the Health Sciences Faculties of two universities, in the Aegean and western Black Sea Region, between 15 February and 5 April 2020. The Students Information Form and Perceptions of Nursing Diagnosis Scale were used for data collection. The independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA test, and the Mann-Whitney U-test with Bonferroni-correction were used to determine the differences between the groups. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the effects of independent variables Results: The mean age of the nursing students was 21.12±1.39; 76.6% of them were female and 36.8% were in the second-year. 53.7% of the nursing students reported that they had difficulty in making nursing diagnoses. This study was conducted to determine the effect of complementary and alternative therapies used by nursing students on coping with stress. The study was conducted with 184 students who agreed to participate in the nursing department of a university between November 1-30, 2020. Data were collected on the internet. Descriptive features data form, form containing complementary alternative therapy usage features, and visual analog scale were used. The average stress score of the students was 3.04 ± 0.88, 60.3% experienced stress, 34.8% had stress-related constipation, 66.3% used a complementary and alternative therapie methods to cope with stress and the most preferred complementary and alternative therapie method (67.2%) was found to be music therapy. It was found that 98. 3% of the students were satisfied with the complementary and alternative therapie method they used. It has been concluded that the use of music therapy and herbal tea used by nursing students are effective in coping with stress, and the increasing internet use affects the use of complementary and alternative therapie method and the information source., Bu araştırma, hemşirelik bölümü öğrencilerinin kullandığı tamamlayıcı ve alternatif terapi yöntemlerinin stresle baş etmelerine olan etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma 1-30 Kasım 2020 tarihleri arasında bir üniversitenin hemşirelik bölümünde araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 184 öğrenci ile yapılmıştır. Veriler internet ortamında toplanmıştır. Veri toplama için tanımlayıcı özellikler veri formu, tamamlayıcı alternatif terapi kullanım durumunu içeren form ve visual analog skala kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin stres puanı ortalamalarının 3,04±0,88 olduğu, % 60,3’ünün stres yaşadığı, % 34.8’inin strese bağlı kabızlık problemi yaşadığı, % 66,3’ ünün stresle baş etmek için bir tamamlayıcı ve alternatif terapi yöntemi kullandığı ve en çok tercih edilen yöntemin (%67,2) müzik terapi olduğu bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin % 98,3’ünün kullandığı tamamlayıcı ve alternatif terapi yönteminden memnun kaldığı tespit edilmiştir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin kullandığı müzik terapi ve bitki çayı tüketmenin stresle baş etmelerinde etkili olduğu ve artan internet kullanımının tamamlayıcı ve alternatif terapi yöntemi kullanımı ve bilgi kaynağını etkilediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

S obzirom na navedeno, kod studentske je populacije općenito važno promicati osobne zdrave navike, a kod studenata sestrinstva i medicine uz to i navike promoviranja zdravog načina života. Cilj je ovog preglednog rada utvrditi kojim se mjerama procjenjuje i kojim se metodama istražuje životni stil studenata sestrinstva i medicine. Pregled opsega proveden je i dovršen 28. prosinca 2020. godine pretraživanjem baze podataka Medline/WoS. Uključeni su članci koji opisuju primarna opažajna istraživanja o zdravom životnom stilu studenata sestrinstva i medicine. Od 68 identificiranih članaka, 12 ih je prihvaćeno (17,7 %) za konačnu analizu. Izrađene su kvantitativna i kvalitativna analiza podataka. Za procjenu životnog stila koriste se upitnici i antropometrijski instrumenti, a fokus je na kriterijima zdravog načina života, kao što su učestalost tjelesne aktivnosti, indeks tjelesne mase, kvaliteta spavanja, balansiranost prehrane, mentalno zdravlje i drugi. Mjere tjelesnog zdravlja u većoj su mjeri zastupljene od mjera mentalnog zdravlja. Sva su istraživanja bila presječnog tipa. Istraživanja pokazuju da studenti sestrinstva i medicine nemaju optimalan životni stil. Potrebna su daljnja istraživanja povezanosti mentalnog zdravlja i životnog stila s ciljem osmišljavanja strategija za unapređenje zdravog načina života u ovoj populaciji, kao i ispitivanja učinkovitosti takvih strategija., Studying involves a host of challenges that can disrupt homeostasis. Some of these include the burden of learning, the desire for academic achievement, and studying while working. Therefore, it is important to promote personal healthy habits in the student population, and for nursing and medical students, additional habits to promote healthy lifestyles. This scoping review aims to determine which measures are used to assess the lifestyle of nursing and medical students and which methods are used to research them. The scoping review was conducted and completed on December 28, 2020, by searching the Medline / WoS database. Articles describing primary non-experimental research on the healthy lifestyles of nursing and medical students were included. Of the 68 articles identified, 12 (17.7%) were accepted for final analysis. Quantitative and qualitative data analyses were conducted. Questionnaires and anthropometric tools are used for the assessment, and the focus is on healthy lifestyle criteria such as frequency of physical activity, body mass index, sleep quality, balanced diet, mental health, and others. Physical health is represented more frequently than mental health. All studies were cross-sectional studies. Research shows that nursing and medical students do not have an optimal lifestyle. The relationship between mental health and lifestyle needs further research to develop strategies to promote healthy lifestyles in this population and also to study the effectiveness of these strategies.

Service learning is a teaching methodology that combines learning and service to the community in the same well-articulated project, where the participants are trained to improve and work on the real needs of the environment. This paper aimed to explore learning about healthy habits and standards of nursing professional practice through a service learning activity between nursing students and high school students. Data of participants (N = 127 high school students and N = 12 nursing students) were collected by the high school students’ healthy habits mind map and with the help of the nursing students’ reflective journals. A generic qualitative design using content analysis was performed. After the activity, high school students identified which habits they should improve, such as diet, physical activity, resting time, and emotional health. By performing the activity, nursing students increased their knowledge about health habits, as well as their communication skills, confidence in public speaking, and awareness about community nurses’ tasks. Service learning activity on health habits conducted by nursing students in a high school has a positive effect on the knowledge of healthy habits for both participants, nursing and high school students. Participating in an activity of service learning improves communication skills among first-year nursing students and narrows the gap between university theory and nursing practice.

One of the areas of human life most impacted by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is education, particularly for nursing students who must attend face-to-face classes to put their knowledge into practice. This study aimed to determine the lived experiences of nursing students in the limited face-to-face classes that mainly focused on before, during, and after school. Moreover, this study could be an instrument for policymakers, administrators, and program heads to enhance existing programs and policies in the limited face-to-face classes. The researchers utilized the phenomenological qualitative approach and a semi-structured interview to gather data. Purposive and snowball sampling methods were employed to select the participants. This study was conducted online with fifteen fourth-year nursing students who are enrolled in a premier educational institution in Quezon City. The study found that nursing students were excited to attend the limited face-to-face classes. However, some were hesitant because they were worried about being exposed to COVID-19. The challenges faced by the nursing students exposed areas of concern in the limited face-to-face classes. Results showed that the program and policy enhancements should focus on the students' uncertainty about learning, strict clinical instructors, too many return demonstrations in a day, no demonstration by the clinical instructor, sudden return demonstrations, late or no checklists provided, and the limited time of classes.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between psychological upset and irritable bowel syndrome among nursing students at the Hafr Albatin University king Saudi Arabia. Aim: The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge of nurses and nursing students about pressure injury (PI) prevention. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was used, and the sample consisted of 312 participants, of whom 198 were nursing students and 114 were nurses from the clinical hospital. The response rate for the total population was 78%. The Pressure Ulcer Knowledge Assessment Tool PUKAT 2.0. was translated to Croatian and used in the study. Data were collected between January and March 2020. Descriptive statistics and chi square tests with Fisher correction for small samples were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean number of correct answers was 10.45 points or 41.8%, which is not considered a satisfactory result. Nurses from the clinical hospital achieved 45.48% correct answers, while part-time students achieved 39.7%. Respondents achieved the best results in the theme of risk assessment and the lowest in the theme prevention of pressure ulcers. A statistically significant difference between the two groups of respondents was found in the themes of classification and observation (p = 0.004), nutrition (p = 0.015), prevention of pressure ulcers (p = 0.010), and specific patient groups (p = 0.002), as well as in the number of total correct answers (p = 0.000). Conclusions: The results showed that knowledge about PI prevention in nurses and nursing students was inadequate. Nurses showed a higher level of knowledge than the students. PIs are a significant clinical problem affecting quality of life, health care costs, and treatment outcomes in patients, so it is important that nurses have adequate knowledge.

Aim: The aim of the study was to translate the Satisfaction with Simulation Experience (SSE) scale in Croatian language and examine whether the SSE scale was valid and reliable among Croatian nursing students. Design: In May 2020, a cross sectional study was conducted at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Croatia. A 145 bachelor’s degree nursing students participated in the study. Methods: To determine the instrument’s internal consistency reliability, the Cronbach alpha coefficient was used. In addition, Confirmatory factor analysis, Bartlett’s sphericity test, the Kaiser-Olkin statistic and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests were used. Results: Cronbach’s alpha coefficient demonstrated a high consistency of the Croatian version of SSE scale (α = 0.92). The Kaiser-Meyer- Olkin (KMO = 0.895) and the Bartlett’s sphericity (p < 0.000) demonstrate significant results. The confirmatory factor analysis CFA has yielded a three-factor structure of SSE scale. Conclusion: The Croatian version of Satisfaction with Simulation Experience scale (CRO – SSE) has shown adequate psychometric properties making it a suitable tool for examining the satisfaction of nursing students with the simulation experience in Croatian context.

Resumo Este estudo tem como objeto a comunicação em saúde no processo formativo de enfermeiros, e como objetivo analisar concepções dos professores e estudantes do curso de graduação em enfermagem acerca da comunicação em saúde à luz do constructo do letramento em saúde. Trata-se de pesquisa descritiva, exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa. Os dados foram coletados por meio de narrativas individuais dos estudantes e entrevistas semiestruturadas com professores vinculados a uma universidade pública. Os dados foram analisados pela codificação indutiva, apoiada pelo software Atlas T.I, versão 8.0, e no referencial teórico do letramento em saúde. Os resultados identificaram duas categorias: 1) comunicação no cuidado de enfermagem e letramento em saúde; 2) prática na habilidade de comunicação durante a graduação. Discentes e docentes reconheceram a comunicação e sua importância no processo relacional com usuários e no contexto de sala de aula. Identifica-se a necessidade de ferramentas práticas e reflexivas para que a comunicação seja vivenciada de forma mais dialógica e participativa, tanto com usuários como em contextos de ensino-aprendizagem, com integração de elementos afetivos, motivacionais e de suporte. Abstract The object of this study is communication about health in the training processes of nurses and the aim is to analyze the conceptions of teachers and students of an undergraduate nursing course about communication in regard to health based on the construct of health literacy. This is a descriptive, exploratory research, with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through individual narratives of students and semi-structured interviews with teachers at a public university. Data were analysed through inductive coding, supported by the Atlas T.I software, version 8.0 and using the theoretical framework of Health Literacy. The results identified two categories supported by the testimonies of students and teachers: 1) Communication in nursing care and health literacy; 2) Practice in communication skills during graduation. Students and teachers recognized the importance of communication and the relational process with patients in the classroom context. The need for practical and reflective tools is identified so that communication is experienced in a more dialogic and participatory manner, both with patients and in teaching-learning contexts, with the integration of affective, motivational and supportive elements.

Cilj: Cilj je istraživanja utvrditi učinkovitost ponuđenog programa edukacije o dojenju te korelacije namjera, stavova i znanja ispitanika o dojenju. Metode: Validiranim upitnikom namjera, stavova i znanja o dojenju (BIAKQ, Breastfeeding intentions, attitudes, and knowledge questionnaire) ispitane su namjere, stavovi i znanje studenata druge godine stručnog studija sestrinstva Veleučilišta u Bjelovaru prije i nakon provedene edukacije o dojenju. Značajnost razlika u namjerama, stavovima i znanju ispitanika prije i nakon provedene edukacije analizirana je t-testom i Wilcoxonovim testom, a povezanost Spearmanovim koeficijentom korelacije. Rezultati: Pronađena je statistički značajna pozitivna promjena u stavovima i namjerama te u ukupnim rezultatima na BIAKQ upitniku nakon provedene edukacije. Nije bilo značajnog pozitivnog pomaka u znanju o dojenju koje je kod studenata bilo vrlo dobro i prije provedene edukcije. Korelacija rezultata na ljestvicama namjera i stavova, međusobno i u odnosu na ukupne rezultate ostvarene u upitniku, bila je statistički značajna i jaka. Rezultati potvrđuju da je edukacija o dojenju pozitivno utjecala na emocionalnu i motivacijsku komponentu stavova unatoč tomu što učinak na kognitivnu komponentu nije bio statistički značajan. Zaključak: Provedena edukacija o dojenju za studente je potvrdila svoju učinkovitost u korekciji stavova i namjera ispitanika o dojenju, bez statistički značaj- nog poboljšanja znanja ispitanika. Potrebna su dodatna istraživanja na uzorcima studenata drugih regija Hrvatske, te u slučaju potvrde učinkovitosti programa edukacije, istu edukaciju treba učiniti dostupnom online svim predavačima i studentima kojima je edukacija o dojenju predmet interesa., Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the offered educational program on breastfeeding and the correlation of intentions, attitudes, and knowledge of respondents about breastfeeding. Methods: A validated questionnaire for measuring students’ intentions, attitudes, and knowledge about breastfeeding (BIAKQ, Breastfeeding intentions, attitudes, and knowledge questionnaire) examined students’ intentions, attitudes, and knowledge about breastfeeding before and after the breastfeeding education in second-year nursing students of Bjelovar University. The significance of differences in the results of respondents in intentions, attitudes, and knowledge, shown by the BIAKQ questionnaire before and after the training, was analyzed by the t-test, Wilcoxon test, and Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results: We found statistically significant positive changes in attitudes and intentions and the overall results on the BIAKQ questionnaire after the education. There was no significant positive change in the knowledge of breastfeeding. That knowledge was very well before education as well. The correlation of the results on the scales of intentions and attitudes with each other and in relation to the total results achieved on the questionnaire was statistically significant and strong. The results confirm that breastfeeding education had a positive effect on the emotional and motivational component of the attitudes, even though the effect on the cognitive component was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The conducted breastfeeding education for students confirmed its effectiveness in correcting the attitudes and intentions of respondents about breastfeeding without statistically significant improvement in the respondents’ knowledge. Additional research is needed on samples of students from other regions of Croatia, and in case of confirmation of the effectiveness of the educational program, to make it available online to all lecturers and students for whom breastfeeding education is a subject of interest.

Aim: Training and employment of competent nurses are among the priorities of nursing. This study was conducted to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool for determining the competency perceptions of senior nursing students. Methods: The methodological study was carried out with 372 senior nursing students who studied in nursing departments of two universities in Istanbul between January and March 2018. The item pool of the scale was created with the learning outcomes within the scope of the “Quality and Safety Education for Nurses” project in the United States of America. After content validity, the scale consisted of 55 items and six main dimensions. Data were collected using a questionnaire, including a personal information form and the Nursing Competency Perception Scale. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, t-test in dependents groups, and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Results: As a result of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, 39 items with a 6-factor structure were retained to form the Nursing Competency Perception Scale. These factors showed senior nursing students’ competency perceptions in patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was between 0.77 and 0.90. There was no statistical difference between the test–retest measurements in the six dimensions (P > .05). Pearson correlation coefficients from 0.71 to 0.90 were found in the six main dimensions (P < .001). Conclusion: The Nursing Competency Perception Scale is a valid and reliable tool for determining the competency perceptions of senior nursing students and new graduate nurses with no professional experience.

Objective: This phenomenologic study aims to investigate the difficulties experienced by a group of nursing students during the pandemia process thoroughly and to explain coping strategies. Methods: This research was carried out using the phenomenological method, which is one of the qualitative research methods, to examine the views of nursing students on their pandemic experiences and their coping strategies “Information Form” and “Questionnaire Form” were sent to the students online, and forms that were filled out completely and sent back were included in the content analysis. Results: Participants mean age was 21.19±1.06. Of the participants, 77.00% were female, 34.4% stated that they live in a metropolis during the pandemia process, while 83.6% mentioned that they were with their family, 31.1% did not leave their homes unless it is necessary. As a result of data analysis, the main themes of difficulties/stressors, stress/anxiety increasing factors, and coping strategies were reached. Conclusion: Student nurses experience more than one difficulty regarding the pandemia process; some students state that the pandemia process has changed their perception of their profession, and they mostly use positive methods to cope with these difficulties.

To test the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between self-efficacy and academic success in nursing students.This was a cross-sectional secondary analysis of longitudinal research aimed at exploring the academic success of nursing students.We enrolled a convenience sample of nursing students attending 21 Italian baccalaureate nursing degree programmes. Data were collected from 2014 to the 2018-2019 academic year. We analysed the wave of data collected during the third year of the programme. The measurements were the Academic Nurse Self-Efficacy scale (ANSEs) and the Scale of Work Burnout (SWEBO). A mediation analysis with a counterfactual approach was performed.The participants (n = 556) had a median age of 20 years (IQR 19-22) and the majority was female [70.5% (392/556)]. Academic success was reached by 51.97% (289/556) of the students. The findings reveal a significant direct effect of self-efficacy on academic success and also a significant indirect effect of this relationship via burnout.The mechanism by which self-efficacy influences academic performance in nursing students is more complex than a simple direct relationship. Universities should consider screening students for variables affecting academic success to decrease academic costs and increase ranking systems classification.Nurses' professors should be engaged in strategies to promote self-efficacy. The area of intervention should be structured both during classes and internships, in tandem with the mentor and the clinical nurse.

Stressors inherent to training and stemming from the learning environment are associated with high rates of burnout, depression, and mental health problems in health professions students (HPS). There is evidence that disadvantaged or stigmatized groups are particularly affected. These problems not only impact students after graduation but may also have detrimental effects on patient outcomes. Resilience, conceptualized as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, has inspired an increasing number of interventions aimed at addressing those problems in HPS. These interventions have mostly targeted individual students and their psychological traits while ignoring social and structural factors that may enhance or undermine individual resilience. To address this gap in the literature, the authors reviewed the evidence for psychosocial determinants of resilience and proposed a model inspired by the social determinants of health literature and the “upstream–downstream” metaphor. In this theoretical paper, the authors propose that upstream determinants such adverse childhood experiences and socioeconomic and sociodemographic markers of disadvantage have a direct effect on psychological adjustment and an indirect effect mediated by resilience. Additionally, the authors propose that the institutional downstream drivers of learning environment, social support, and sense of belonging moderate the direct and indirect effects of the upstream determinants on psychological adjustment. Future research should test these hypotheses and gather evidence that may guide the development of interventions. The authors present their model as part of a comprehensive response to recent calls to action to address diversity, equity and inclusion in health professions education.

Results The majority of nursing students had a high degree of acceptance towards UMS euthanasia and highlighted their important role in the euthanasia decision-making process, but also reported a lack of knowledge and skills. Digital game-based learning is a ludic approach that has evolved through the development of information and communication technologies (ICT), making the learner an active participant in the virtual learning environment instead of a mere observer. It is an electronic simulation tool suitable for improving learning efficiency as well as learner engagement and motivation. The integration of this educational technology in the teaching and learning process can contribute to the construction of knowledge, the development of new skills and attitudes among students. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of serious game on the learning, behavioral engagement, and motivation of nursing students. To do this, we first conducted a study with a sample of 58 polyvalent nursing students divided into two groups; one experimental and the other as a control. Both groups benefited from the same content taught at a distance, however, the experimental group benefited from an online serious game after the course. By comparing the summative scores of the two groups using the Student's t-test, the results show that the serious game improved the students' clinical knowledge of pediatric nursing (t= -2.706,p=0.009). However, it did not have an effect on clinical skills (t= -0.373, p=0.711). As a second step, we have studied the impact of the game on the learners' behavioral engagement based on the analysis of the digital traces of the students' work. Meanwhile, the motivation is analyzed using a questionnaire developed from the ARCS scale of Killer (2010), which is distributed to the experimental group. By comparing the means and deviation standards, the results show that the students give the satisfaction factor the highest score (4.71±0.34) followed by the relevance, attention, and confidence factors. To obtain reliable results, however, it is necessary to repeat the serious game experience in several nursing modules. In addition, the impact of combining serious game with simulation on the learning of nursing students should be studied.

Introducción: Los pacientes de salud mental presentan una serie de necesidades que deben ser cubiertas, para ello se emplean actividades lúdicas y arteterapia. Mediante el uso de estos talleres se fomenta el desarrollo de la psicomotricidad fina. Esta se considera de vital importancia en pacientes menores, ya que incorpora aspectos somáticos y cognitivo-afectivos que repercuten positivamente en el desarrollo del paciente. Se pretende analizar el uso de la papiroflexia como arteterapia y su impacto en pacientes adolescentes de salud mental, en relación al tratamiento común. Metodología: La búsqueda bibliográfica se realizó mediante operadores booleanos a través de las bases de datos PubMed, Cochrane Library, Preevid, Epistemonikos, APA Psycnet, Google Académico y Scielo, utilizando las palabras clave arteterapia, salud mental, adolescente y papiroflexia. Se incluyeron 25 artículos tras aplicar criterios de exclusión. Resultados: Tras la lectura crítica de estos se extrae que existen opiniones enfrentadas entre los autores sobre la utilización de terapias con arte, predominando la idea de que estas influyen positivamente en la calidad de vida del individuo. En cuanto a la papiroflexia, a pesar de sus beneficios observados como el aumento de la motivación y reducción de la ansiedad en adolescentes, también existe una discrepancia entre los autores acerca de su uso, dada la posibilidad de insatisfacción de los pacientes. Discusión y conclusiones: En salud mental con adolescentes, esta herramienta ha sido utilizada en programas de hospital de día y estudiada por diferentes autores, quienes la consideran útil y terapéutica, a pesar de carecer de criterio científico suficiente. Introduction: Mental health patients show a series of needs that must be fulfilled. For this purpose, ludic activities and art therapy are implemented. Through the use of this type of workshop, the development of fine psychomotor skills is encouraged. These are considered of vital importance in underage patients, due to the incorporation of somatic and cognitive-affective aspects that have an impact on the development of the patient. It is intended to analyze the use of origami as an art therapy and its impact in teenager mental health patients, in relation with common therapy. Method: The bibliographic search was carried out using boolean operators throughout the PubMed Cochrane Library, Preevid, Epistemonikos, APA Psycnet, Google Scholar and Scielo databases using the following key words: manual workshop, mental health, adolescent, and origami. 25 articles were included after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: After performing the critical reading of these papers it is concluded that there are many opposing opinions between authors about the usage of art therapies, prevailing the idea that this influence positively in the life quality of the individual. Regarding origami, despite its observed benefits like the increase in motivation and anxiety reduction in teenagers, there is also a discrepancy between authors about its implementation, given the chance of insatisfaction among the patients. Discussion and conclusions: In adolescent mental health services, this tool has been used in day-care hospitals and studied by many authors, who consider it useful and therapeutic, despite lacking strong scientific criteria.

Introduction: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first identified in Wuhan City, China, in 2019. E orts were made to cordon off the city in a bid to contain the virus. The tumultuous developments in nursing education, along with the national healthcare crisis caused by the COVID19 pandemic, formed a precarious direction for nursing faculty, many of whom had little prior experience teaching in an online environment. This literature review aims to understand the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing students. Materials and Methods: A literature search was conducted with the following electronic databases: ProQuest, EBSCOhost, Medline, Google Scholar, PubMed and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Search terms included "psychological impacts," "mental health," "COVID-19," "pandemic", and "nursing students". The articles were reviewed based on relevance. The inclusion criteria consisted of (1) prelicensure nursing students; (2) mental health as the key issue; (3) during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; (4) journal article and a research manuscript. The critical review acknowledged 104 articles using the above keywords. After screening, 23 articles were relevant to be included in this review. Results: The review managed to obtain 23 selected articles. Five (5) themes were developed based on inductive thematic analysis, namely, depression, anxiety, stress, fear, and academic performance. Further analysis of the themes has resulted in ten (10) sub-themes related to mental health issues of nursing students during the pandemic. Conclusion: The study offers significance to the body of knowledge of the mental health of nursing students during the Covid-19 pandemic. Future researchers should conduct studies focusing on the relationship between nursing students and depression. The nursing faculty of the educational institutions should provide further support to nursing students struggling with their mental health, like a helpline or online counselling to ease navigation through the changes in the curriculum and their career outlook.

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the methods used to develop clinical judgment in the simulation setting. In many cases, virtual simulation has replaced face-to-face simulation but lack of interaction between the students and educators is a limitation. Sample Ninety-six prelicensure baccalaureate nursing students at a Midwestern university participated in the end-of-semester simulation as part of the course. Method Based on the review of aggregate standardized test results, a simulation scenario was developed using a synchronous online format with educators portraying nurses and patients using a fun approach. At three predetermined stopping points, students discussed further nursing actions which were performed by the educators, followed by debriefing at the end of the scenario. Results Simulation evaluation as part of routine systematic simulation program assessment indicated students perceived both pauses for discussion during the scenario and debriefing at the end were valuable in promoting their learning. Conclusion This project is consistent with research which found virtual simulation enhances student learning and clinical judgment. The positive perception of students about the use of humor through implementation of the simulation scenario was consistent with current research related to student engagement and motivation to participate.

Amaç: Çalışmamızda Covid-19 sürecinde teknolojiye olan ilginin artması göz önüne alınarak hemşirelik öğrencilerinde teknoloji bağımlılığının düzeyinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Çalışma bir özel üniversitede bulunan 362 hemşirelik öğrencisiyle yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada verilerin toplanmasında Sosyodemografik Form ve Teknoloji Bağımlılığı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde SPSS 22.0 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılmadığı tespit edildiği için yüzde, sayı ve parametrik olmayan testlerle veriler çözümlenmiştir.Bulgular: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin Teknoloji Bağımlılığı Ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması 40,59±12,50 olarak bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin “sosyal ağ bağımlılığı” boyutunda 11,19±3,84, “anlık mesajlaşma bağımlılığı” boyutunda 11,29±4,05, “çevrimiçi oyun bağımlılığı” boyutunda 7,74±3,41, “web siteleri bağımlılığı” boyutunda 10,36±4,12 puan ortalamasına sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca pandemi sonrası teknoloji ile geçirilen saat miktarı ile ölçek puan ortalaması arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur.Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin teknoloji bağımlılığı düzeyleri düşük düzey bağımlı olarak bulunmuştur. Teknolojinin kullanılırken dikkat edilmesi gereken en önemli konu amaca yönelik kullanımdır ve o anki kullanım amacına göre hem uğraş hem de süre anlamında sınırlandırmanın olması gerekmektedir. Eğer amaçsız ve süre sınırı olmadan, sadece eğlence amaçlı kullanılırsa, zamanın iyi kullanılmayarak zaman yönetimi becerisinin gelişememesi ya da zayıflaması gibi istenmeyen sonuçlara neden olabilir., Aim: In our study, it was aimed to determine the level of technology addiction in nursing students, taking into account the increasing interest in technology during the Covid-19 process.Method: The study was conducted with 362 nursing students at a private university. Sociodemographic Form and Technology Addiction Scale were used to collect data in the study. SPSS 22.0 package program was used to evaluate the data. Since it was determined that the data were not normally distributed, the data were analyzed with percentage, number and non-parametric tests.Results: It was determined that the students had an average of 11.19±3.84 points in the dimension of "social network addiction", 11.29±4.05 points in the dimension of "instant messaging addiction", 7.74±3.41 points in the dimension of "online game addiction", and 10.36±4.12 points in the dimension of "web sites addiction". In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the number of hours spent with technology after the pandemic and the scale score average.Conclusion: Technology addiction levels of nursing students were found to be low level. The most important issue to be considered when using technology is its intended use, and there should be a limitation in terms of both effort and time according to the current purpose of use. If it is used for entertainment purposes without a purpose and time limit, it may cause undesirable results such as poor use of time or poor time management skills.

Pandemi dönemindeki uzaktan eğitim hemşirelik öğrencileri tarafından zaman ve mekân esnekliği açısından büyük kolaylık olarak görülmüş olsa da; öğrencilerde öğrenme güçlüğü, uygulama ve klinik deneyimlerde adaptasyon zorluğu, hemşirelik becerilerinin gelişme sürecinin olumsuz etkilenmesi gibi sonuçlara neden olduğu saptanmıştır. Süreç içerisindeki olumsuzluklar ve zorlukların öğrencilerde endişeye yol açtığı görülmüştür., Although distance education during the pandemic period has been seen as a great convenience in terms of time and space flexibility by nursing students; it has been determined that it causes learning difficulties in students, difficulty in adaptation in practice and clinical experiences, and negative effects on the development process of nursing skills. It has been observed that the negativities and difficulties in the process cause anxiety in students.

Nursing students experience a number of emotional challenges during their educations, leading to high levels of stress among them. One of the strategies of stress management in nursing students is the use of mindfulness. This study aimed to assess mindfulness and related factors among Iranian nursing students. In a cross-sectional study, 100 nursing students studying at Nasibeh Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Iran was enrolled. Data were collected via census sampling from May to June 2018. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire including demographic characteristics, Kentucky Mindfulness Skills scale, and Spielberger State Anxiety scale. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Chi-squared, and ANOVA tests. The mean score of mindfulness of nursing students was 117.35 ± 12.89. The mean scores of mindfulness in the dimensions of observation, description, act with awareness, and acceptance without Judgment was 36.33 ± 6.0, 25.68 ± 4.91, 28.17 ± 4.49, and 27.17 ± 3.80, respectively. The mean score of anxiety in nursing students was 14.17 ± 3.78. There was a significant relationship between age and dimension "description" of mindfulness (r = 0.22, p = 0.029). There was a significant relationship between dimension "observation" of mindfulness and experience stressful events during the last six months (t = 2.327, df = 96, p = 0.022). Therefore, due to the importance of mindfulness among nursing students, it is possible to reduce the risk factor by creating the necessary conditions such as continuing education.

Bu araştırma hemşirelik son sınıf (4. Sınıf) öğrencilerinin bireysel kariyer planlama eğilimlerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, 2018-2019 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Hemşirelik Bölümü 4. sınıf öğrenciler üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Veri toplama aracı olarak “Öğrenci Tanıtım Formu” ve “Kariyer Geleceği Ölçeği (KARGEL)” kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 83 öğrencinin yaş ortalaması 22,14 ±1,48 ve %63,9’u kadındır. Hemşirelik mesleğini tercih etme nedenlerinden en fazla tercih edilen %38,6 ile iş bulma imkânı kolaylığıdır. Öğrencilerin cinsiyetine ve “Bölümü isteyerek seçme durumu”, “Mesleği sevme durumu”, “Kariyer fırsatlarını bilme durumu”, “Hemşirelik mesleğini tercih etme nedeni” ve “Kariyer planı hedefleri” sorularına verdikleri yanıtlara göre KARGEL alt boyut ölçek puanları açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerinin Kariyer Geleceği Ölçeği toplam puan ortalamaları yüksek düzeydedir (85,36±12,62). Öğrencilerin mevcut kariyer iyimserliği, kariyer uyumunun ve bilgi alt boyutlarının öğrencilerde yüksek olması nedeni ile bu sonucu öğrencilerde fırsata dönüştürülebilmesi için kariyer danışmanlığı sürecinin eğitim kurumlarınca daha iyi yönetilmesinin önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir., This study aimed to evaluate the individual career planning trends of final-year nursing students. The study was conducted with final-year nursing students (4th grade) in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Bursa Uludağ University, Turkey in the 2018-2019 academic year. "Student Introduction Form" and "Career Future Invenotry (CFI)" were used as data collection tools. The mean age of 83 students who agreed to participate in the study was 22.14 ± 1.48 and 63.9% of them were women. The most preferred reason for choosing the nursing profession is the ease of finding a job with 38.6%. There wasn't a statistically significant difference in terms of KARGEL sub-dimension scale scores according to the gender of the students and their answers to the questions "Choosing the department willingly", "Loving the profession", "Knowing career opportunities", "Reason for choosing the nursing profession" and "Career plan goals" was found. According to the results of the research, the total mean score of the Career Future Inventory of the students is high (85.36±12.62). Since students' current career optimism, career adaptability and knowledge sub-dimensions are high in students, it is thought that it is important to better manage the career counseling process by educational institutions in order to turn this result into an opportunity for students.

Objective: This study’s aim was conducted to reveal the relationship between the attitudes of the Nursing Department students towards gender roles and their attitudes towards lesbian and gay individuals. Materials and Methods: 1079 students studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at related University Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department in the spring semester of the 2018-2019 academic year constituted the population of the study. In the study, no sample selection was made and it was studied with 606 nursing students (Power=99.0%). The data were collected using the Socio-Demographic Data Form, the Attitudes toward Lesbians and Gay Men Scale-Short Version(ATLG-R), and the Gender Role Attitude Scale(GRAS). Results: It was determined that 90.3% of the participants knew the concept of gender roles. When the students were asked whether they would discriminate against LGBTs individual due to their sexual orientation/identity, 69.6% of them stated that they would not discriminate, 15% of them stated that they were undecided, and 14.8% of them stated that they would discriminate. It was concluded that the mean score of the GRAS of the participating students was 65.044±14.622, and the ATLG-R scale score were 30.533±8.454. Purpose: The study aims to determine the effect of clinical practice on nursing students’ professional competencies. Material and Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Its population consisted of 375 second-, third- and fourth-year nursing students who had completed at least one year of nursing education at the nursing faculty where the study was conducted. No sampling was done, and the study was completed with 265 students who agreed to participate. The data were collected using an introductory information form and the Competency Inventory of Nursing Students (CINS). The pre-test data were collected in the second week when the students started their clinical practice, and the post-test data were collected in the twelfth week near the end of their clinical practice. Personai šķiet, ka visi gūtie sasniegumi ir tikai veiksme un nejaušība, nevis pašas darba nopelns. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot Impostora fenomena izplatību jauno māsu un māszinību studentu vidū. Pētījuma izlasi veido 108 pētījuma respondenti, kuri sadalīti trīs apakšgrupās – māszinību studenti, jaunās māsas ar darba pieredzi kopš māsas kvalifikācijas iegūšanas līdz pieciem gadiem un māszinību studenti, kuri māsas kvalifikāciju pēdējo piecu gadu laikā ieguvuši koledžā vai universitātē, praktizē un pētījuma laikā turpina studijas bakalaura vai maģistra studiju programmā. Pētījuma ietvaros izmantota pētījuma anketa, kuru veido sociāldemogrāfiskie jautājumi un psiholoģes Dr. Pauline Rose Clance izstrādātā skala Impostora fenomena noteikšanai (CIPS). Impostor syndrome or phenomenon is a term in psychology that describes a set of subjective feelings of a person about his professional competences, skills and abilities. It seems to the person that all the achievements are just luck and coincidence, and not the merit of the work that is done by person. The purpose of the research was to find out the prevalence of the Impostor phenomenon among young nurses and nursing students. The research sample consists of 108 research respondents, who are divided into three subgroups - nursing students, new nurses with up to five years of work experience since obtaining a nursing qualification, and nursing students who have obtained a nursing qualification at a college or university within the last five years, practice and continue their studies during the study in a bachelor's or master's study program. In the framework of the research, questionnaire was used, which consists of socio-demographic questions and The Impostor Phenomenon Scale (CIPS) developed by psychologist Dr. Pauline Rose Clance. The results obtained in the research confirms the hypothesis and shows a positive correlation between the prevalence of the Impostor phenomenon and the professional experience of the respondents. Māszinības Veselības aprūpe Nursing Studies Health Care Bakalaura tēma – Ētiskas dilemmas izpratne māszinību studentiem Darba mērķis - Noskaidrot ētiskas dilemmas izpratni māszinību studentiem. Pētījumā piedalījās vienas Latvijas Republikas universitātes 1. kursa un 4. kursa māszinību studenti ar kopējo skaitu 40 respondenti Pētījuma datu ievākšana notika interneta vidē un individuāli, laika periodā no 2023. gada 15. maija līdz 2023. gada 17. maijam. Tika izdrukāti 20 anketas, kuras bija izsniegtas individuāli respondentiem auditorijā, iepriekš saskaņojot laiku ar studentiem. Pētījuma izvirzīta hipotēze nav apstiprinājusies, jo netika konstatētas izteiktas atšķirības starp 1. un 4. kursa studentu ētiskās dilemmas izpratni. Darba gaitā secināts, ka galvenā un svarīgākā problēma, ko sagādā sastapšanās ar ētisko dilemmu - ir tās ietekme uz aprūpes kvalitāti un uz uzticību balstītu attiecību veidošanu ar pacientu, tieši tāpēc ir svarīgi pievērst lielāku uzmanību medicīnas, šajā gadījumā, māszinību studentu izglītošanai šajā jautājumā. Bachelor’s thesis – Understanding of Ethical Dilemma among Nursing Students The aim of the work - to find out and clarify the understanding of ethical dilemma among nursing students. 1st and 4th year nursing students of one university of the Republic of Latvia took part in the research, with a total number of 40 respondents. Data collection for research were made online and individually, in the period from May 15, 2023 to May 17, 2023. 20 questionnaires were printed, which were handed out individually to the respondents in the audience, having previously arranged the time with the students. The hypothesis of the research has not been confirmed, because no significant differences were found between the understanding of the ethical dilemma among the 1st and 4th year students. Also conclusion has been made, that the main and most important problem caused by the encounter with an ethical dilemma is its impact on the quality of care and the creation of a relationship based on trust with the patient, that is why it is important to pay more attention to the education of medical, in this case, nursing students in this matter. Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to map the existing literature on the teaching the fundamentals of nursing, including the teaching strategies and methods used, the topics covered when teaching fundamentals of nursing in nursing education and practice. The scoping review aims to provide an overview of the available evidence and identify gaps in the literature, as well as to provide recommendations for future research and implications for nursing education and practice. Introduction: Teaching fundamentals of nursing is a crucial aspect of nursing education that helps to ensure competent and safe patient care. While there is existing literature on teaching strategies and topics related to fundamentals of nursing, a scoping review is needed to map the current state of knowledge in this area. Inclusion criteria: This scoping review will consider both primary research and grey literature related to teaching methods, strategies, and approaches to teach fundamental of nursing for undergraduate nursing students. The review will be limited to studies published in English and Arabic within the past 10 years. The review concept will focus on methods, strategies, and approaches used to teach the fundamentals of nursing course, and studies from various educational and clinical settings. There will be no geographical restrictions. Methods: The proposed scoping review will adhere to JBI guidelines. The search will be conducted using several databases, including MEDLINE, CINHAL, Scopus, the Directory of Open Access Journals, Informit, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global. The PRISMA-ScR extension will be utilized to document the search process. Two reviewers will screen titles, abstracts, and full-text articles, and relevant data will be extracted using an extraction table to facilitate data analysis. The development of this review is motivated by the interest of the group of researchers in the education of nursing students, mainly focused on the scope of entrepreneurship. The researchers involved in the study are a reference in their institutions in encouraging the promotion of the theme of entrepreneurship in the student's academic curriculum. In addition, there is a universe of possibilities for the development of this entrepreneurial teaching and a still very punctual inclusion of this theme in universities. Thus, when considering such characteristics, we believe that the synthesis of evidence on entrepreneurship in the formation of nursing students will show the importance of this branch in education in nursing.

Introduction: The healthcare systems in Europe are rapidly changing due to increased complexity of healthcare needs, specifically for the ageing population with chronic disease. Patients should be supported in increasing their quality of life, well-being, health outcomes and self-management. Future nurses play a key role in providing care for patients with chronic diseases, encouraging patients’ own care by enhancing their health literacy. The aim of this study is to analyse the health literacy in nursing student literature to guide research development in this topic. Methods and analysis: A scoping review will be conducted following Arksey and O’Malley’s framework. In developing the study, we will refer to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) checklist. A systematic search will be performed by two researchers using the electronic databases of MEDLINE, ERIC and CINAHL. We will include any paper that focuses on health literacy, considering nursing students at the nursing-degree level. We will select every primary study (quantitative, qualitative and mixed method) published in peer-reviewed journals until February 2023, in either Italian or English. We have chosen to not impose a time limitation due to the lack of a literature review about health literacy and nursing student research. Ethics and dissemination: The findings of this scoping review will guide research development in this field and help researchers to increase evidence about health literacy in nursing students. We will give a strong methodological implication to develop this research area, we will identify the research gap and the effective teaching strategies to develop this skill during nursing education.

Background: There is an increased risk with advancing age that degenerative conditions such as dementia will affect a person's capacity to communicate. Thus, there is increased possibility that nursing students will be caring for this client group and will need to have the skills to communicate effectively. The Validation, Emotion, Reassure, Activity (VERA) framework is a communication tool developed for this purpose. Objectives: This pilot study explored nursing students' perceptions and experiences of communicating with people with dementia incorporating the VERA communication skills framework. Methods: Using a descriptive qualitative approach, second year undergraduate general nursing students were eligible for inclusion if they were assigned to complete their 4-week clinical placement in the designated research site and were willing to participate. Students allocated to the designated research site (n= 6) in semester 1 received standard communication skills as part of the undergraduate programme and students allocated (n= 10) in semester 2 received 2.5 h of additional communication skills based on the VERA framework. Data were analysed using framework analysis as described by Ritchie & Spencer. Results: The findings showed that students in both groups had initial reservations about communicating with people living with dementia. They employed several strategies including nonverbal techniques, distraction, reminiscence and life story work. However, students who received the VERA communication training felt more prepared to engage in these strategies because of the VERA training. Conclusion: With increasing numbers of people with dementia accessing health care, it is crucial that future nursing staff are equipped to meet the specific care needs of this population; which includes effective communication. The VERA framework can be useful to structure communication for nursing students. Implication for practice: The VERA training may be considered a useful framework for increasing undergraduate nursing students' knowledge and confidence in advance of clinical placements in older person's services. Nursing staff should continue to support students on clinical placements which involve caring for people with dementia and be cognisant of the trepidation students may have when first meeting this client group.

Objective: To identify nursing students’attitudes about domestic violence for the period of the COVID-19 quarantine period . Methods: Random stratified sample of (120 students) they were taken from the total (510 students) studying in college of nursing at university of Thi-Qar. The subject includes both male and female. After did all consents from college of nursing and university, participant’s consent also was taken, data were collected by self-report method by using approved questionnaire from the period of the 5th April to the 20th of April 2021. Results: Results of the current study showed that study sample have aged between (19 -22 ), the participants gender (55%) of them were female, and (45%) were male and nursing students' attitude about the situational blame factor was 55.0% approval. nursing students' attitude about the perpetrator blame factor was 73.3% approval. Conclusion: Results of the current demonstrated that more students (55%) have attitude about the situational blame factor, and (73.3%) of nursing students had attitude about the perpetrator blame factor. Background and objective: Standard Precautions (SP) are infection control procedures universally applicable to every patient. Though SP reduces disease transmission, their implementation is dependent on the knowledge and skills of healthcare workers (HCWs). Poor knowledge regarding the appropriate use of SP can cause fear among HCWs, leading to stigma and discrimination while treating people living with HIV (PLWH). Stigma and discrimination are known barriers for PLWH to access HIV care services. The aim of the study was to assess nursing student knowledge of SP, SP self-efficacy and SP perceived efficacy of nursing students, and (2) to assess the association between SP knowledge, perceived efficacy, and intention to utilize unwarranted precautions, like using double gloves while treating PLWH.Methods: This paper analyzes baseline (non-randomized) data of a cluster randomized controlled trial amongst 1868 Indian nursing students. Data was collected using computer-administered structured questionnaire. The associations between the measures were done using multiple, logistic and poisson regression models.Results: Although 97% nursing students could identify SP, only 35.5% understood that they need to be used with all patients. Awareness of the importance of using SP with all patients was positively associated with self-efficacy. Students performing high-risk tasks frequently were significantly more likely to be confident in their ability to correctly use SP, but also had higher intention to use unwarranted precautions.Conclusions: Existing teaching and training programs for HCWs need to provide clear guidelines and emphasize on the correct use of SP with all patients. This will increase both skills and confidence in their abilities (self-efficacy).

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the perceived level of disaster preparedness and response among nursing students in Oman, as the country is disaster prone and experiences disasters every three to five years. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional pilot study was conducted from May to June 2019 using a stratified cluster sampling method among nursing students recruited from two government nursing colleges in Muscat, Oman. The Disaster Preparedness Evaluation Tool and Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale were used to assess the knowledge, skill, disaster management and self-efficacy in handling disasters. Results: A total of 51 students participated in this study. Most students (78.4%) had experienced a disaster while at home. Overall, the students had moderate levels of knowledge (3.17 ± 1.49), skill (3.12 ± 1.52), post-disaster management (3.22 ± 1.44) and self efficacy in responding to disaster (2.93 ± 1.16). Conclusion: Nursing students in Oman have experienced disasters and are willing to respond when called upon though they possess moderate knowledge and confidence in handling disasters. Background: Ethics is a difficult subject for nursing students to grasp and learn but, like person-centredness, it has an important role in the relationship between nurses and patients. Simulation has been found to be a suitable method for learning nursing procedures and actions, and the researchers wanted to explore whether it could be a suitable learning strategy for acquiring ethical skills, which are a prerequisite for delivering person-centred care. Aim: In response to the research question How can nursing students develop ethical competence through simulation? the study sought to consider how students could learn ethical reflection and decision making through simulated ethical dilemmas, and whether this could enhance their ability to deliver person-centred care. Design: The study was qualitative and exploratory, and based on students acting in scenarios representing general ethical dilemmas in nursing. There were four focus group interviews with nine nursing students in their second year, during their clinical practice. Students were recruited by self-selection. Data were transcribed and analysed using Graneheim and Lundman’s content analysis. Findings: The students gained experience through participation and acting in simulation exercises. The shared experience was a good starting point for guided reflection on ethical and tacit knowledge, and the acquired experience led to knowledge that is transferable to similar situations in clinical practice. Conclusion: This study shows that simulation is a valuable method for learning ethical reflection in nursing education. It found simulation to be suitable for developing ethical awareness that helps prepare nursing students to deliver person-centred practice. It has become a permanent learning strategy within nursing training at Nord University. Implications for practice: • Nursing students benefit from learning to practise critical ethical thinking as early as possible in order to become ethically aware and reflective during their training and later as nurses • Simulation is a valuable way to practise personal relationships with patients and colleagues • Simulated clinical scenarios improve competence in critical thinking and ethical conduct, and help prepare nurses to deliver person-centred practice. They can be used in all healthcare settings.

Background: This article explores the use of a practice development approach to support nursing students’ engagement in learning partnerships in clinical practice settings. Aim: To reflect, using the model proposed by Rolfe and colleagues (2001), on the development of ‘PLATO’ – an educational tool to help nursing students explore their role in building learning partnerships in clinical settings. Conclusion: A practice development approach to clinical learning partnerships can support an effective learning culture. As a result, nursing students can gain greater empowerment and take increased responsibility for their learning. Implications for practice: • Facilitating learning partnerships with students is important for achieving person-centred care • Partnership working provides opportunities for true collaboration and for learning with and from our students • Developing collaborative spaces can facilitate nursing students to reflect in and on their practice

Aim To examine the attitudes of undergraduate Jordanian nursing students towards death and caring for dying patients. Design A cross‐sectional correlational design. Methods The Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying and Death Attitude Profile‐Revised scales were used in this study with a convenience sample of 555 students from nursing schools in Jordan. Results Nursing students had positive attitudes towards death (M = 153.7, SD = 21.5) and a positive attitude towards caring for dying patients (M = 98.1, SD = 9.2). Fear of death, escape acceptance and death avoidance were significant negative predictors, while neutral acceptance, higher academic level and female gender were significant positive predictors of caring for dying patients (F = 4.5). Conclusion Nursing students had positive attitudes towards caring for dying patients that was influenced by university type, academic level and gender. Nursing education must further focus on death, dying and end‐of‐life care across the core courses of nursing curricula, theory and practicum.

Background Nursing students are experiencing life changing events in their personal, academic, and work environments since the onset of the pandemic. Purpose The purpose of this study was to describe and explore the effects of COVID-19 on personal, workforce, and academic experiences of nursing students (N = 620). Method A 68-item survey with three areas of focus surrounding academic, workforce and personal experiences was distributed to multiple schools across the United States. The analysis compares student responses from the five regions of the US. Findings Significant differences (p < .05) were found in the pairwise comparisons. The analysis revealed the academic changes were generally viewed as negative. Fear/anxiety and political influences impacted the outcomes of the pandemic. Discussion Understanding the effects of the pandemic on the personal, work and academic experiences of nursing students will assist academia and healthcare in adapting existing policies to meet student needs in the various regions of the United States.

Introduction: Needle stick injuries (NSIs) are the most potential occupational hazards among nursing personnel with possible transmission of blood borne pathogens. As nursing students are in the learning stage, they might be at higher risk of acquiring the injuries.Objectives: Todetermine the prevalence of needle stick injuries and to assess the awareness, attitude and practices followed with regard to NSIs.Methodology: An online cross-sectional study was conducted from October to December 2020 among 175 students in a nursing college in Chengalpattu district Tamil Nadu, using a pretested semi- structured questionnaire, adopting universal sampling technique. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 23. Categorical variables were summarized as Percentages and chi square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: The overall prevalence of needle stick injury among nursing college students was 16%.Final year studentsweremore exposed to the injuries(35.7%). Majority (96.57%) of the students were aware about universal precaution guidelines, 57% of students were aware about the diseases transmitted by NSI, 97.71% were aware about safety devices and 67.43% of students were aware about the post-exposure prophylaxis in management of NSIs.Among the students, 71.43% had used gloves regularly, 72% were immunized against Hepatitis B, only 25.71% of students attended Integrated Counselling Testing Centre(ICTC) and more than half of the students always practiced recapping needle after giving injections. Conclusion: Majority of the students in this study were aware about NSIs, their attitude towards NSIs was agreeable. The practices reported though assessed through online survey was found to be deficient.Periodic education and training need to be done to avoid injuries in future.

Objective: This study was conducted to examine the effect of the public health nursing course given to nursing students on their healthy lifestyle behaviors. Methods: A one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used in the study, which was carried out with 80 students studying at the nursing department of a foundation university and volunteering to participate in the study. The data were collected twice before and after the course using the Personal Information Form and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP). Background: Older adults, the prevalence of chronic diseases increase, depending on the physiological and psychological changes that occur with aging processes of maintenance issues in pandemic seems to be more important. Objectives: This study aims to examine the attitudes of senior nursing students regarding ageism as well as their views of the problems the elderly faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The present study is a mixed study with quantitative and qualitative dimensions and it was conducted in a nursing school in X. The quantitative part of the research was conducted with 75 senior students, 13 of whom were also included in the qualitative part of the study. Quantitative data were collected using the Introductory Information Form and the Ageism Attitude Scale and qualitative data using a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis Mann–Whitney U, and Kruskal–Wallis tests and content analysis were used. Results: It was found that the students’ attitudes toward the elderly were positive and their views of the elderly during the pandemic were distributed among the main themes of Vulnerable, Emotional Shake, Culture, and Iceberg. Conclusion: it is believed that it is important to ensure that health team members who will work with the older adults should be provided with an environment wherein they can provide care to the older adults in the first years of their education.

Studying the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on the current nursing workforce and the training of future nurses is important. This study aimed to assess the views of senior nursing students pursuing health policy courses on the effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic on the political power and awareness of nursing profession. Document analysis method, one of the qualitative enhancement patterns, was employed in this study. This study was conducted in a nursing school with a sample comprising 34 nursing students. The data were collected from online homework documents and evaluated with thematic analysis. Students on the effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic on the nursing profession were categorized into three main themes and nine subthemes. Students reported that although the visibility of nursing increased during the COVID‐19 pandemic, the problems of this profession did not change. The results showed that depoliticization was an important obstacle in the fight against these problems and students stated that the struggle could be realized together with a unified and strong political voice. Students suggested being organized in the struggle against problems, addressing unions and associations, and political awareness and political participation as a remedy., Key points • There is limited evidence regarding nursing students' views on the situation of nurses during the COVID‐19 pandemic. • COVID‐19 has caused nurses to face many serious problems and become more visible. However, there has been no change in the working life of nurses in the Pandemic. • The students explained that political voice, education, and organization is important solving problems of nurses. • It is necessary to bring a new perspective to the way health policies are handled in the nursing curriculum especially to create a politically strong nurse in working life.

Aim The study aimed to describe and explain the self‐assessed gerontological nursing competence levels of Finnish nursing students and factors relating to it. Design A cross‐sectional study design, reported by The Strengthening the Reporting of Observational studies in Epidemiology guidelines. Methods Data were collected with the GeroNursingCom instrument, which features 53 items relating to 11 competence factors. The K‐clustering technique and the Chi‐squared, Kruskal‐Wallis and Mann Whitney tests were used to analyse the data. Results Seven hundred and ninety‐nine nursing students from nine randomly selected higher education institutions were invited to participate in 2019. Three distinct student profiles were identified according to the data (N = 274): Profile A—lower intermediate competence (23.1% of students), Profile B—intermediate competence (45.8%) and Profile C—high competence (31.1%). The strongest competence area for all students was appreciative encounter and interaction, and the weakest was supporting the older person’s sexuality. Nursing students have diverse backgrounds and their overall competence in gerontological nursing is shaped in part by their previous education, motivations and work experience. Relevance to clinical practice Recognizing students’ different gerontological nursing competence profiles enables the implementation of targeted education to improve competence in clinical practice.

Background The COVID‐19 pandemic interrupted face‐to‐face education and forced universities into an emergency remote teaching curriculum. Studies show that students’ engagement, social presence, and satisfaction are critical factors for optimal online teaching. Purpose Therefore, in this study, we sought to understand how the sudden transition to emergency remote teaching impacted nursing students’ engagement and social presence, as well as how it affected their satisfaction with online courses in a middle‐eastern public university. Methods A cross‐sectional descriptive correlative research design was adopted in this study. Data were collected through three questionnaires measuring students’ engagement, social presence, and satisfaction with emergency remote teaching compared to the traditional approach from a sample of 177 nursing students. Results Results indicate that students had a high level of engagement but low social presence and low satisfaction level with emergency remote teaching. Additionally, both engagement and social presence were positively associated with satisfaction. Conclusion Our findings support the importance of engaging students and integrating social presence strategies into online courses to enhance nursing students’ satisfaction.

Background The duration and magnitude of the coronavirus (COVID-19) posed unique challenges for nursing students, whose education was altered because of the pandemic. Purpose To explore the perceptions and experiences of nursing students whose clinical rotations were abruptly interrupted by COVID-19's initial surge in the United States. Methods This qualitative study was conducted at a midwestern, academic medical center to elicit senior nursing students' experiences. An online survey was administered with eight open-ended questions asking about: initial impressions of the pandemic; experiences of being a senior nursing student; sources of stress and coping mechanisms; preparing to work as a registered nurse; and views on the nursing profession. Results Among the 26 students who completed the survey, the majority were female (92%), aged 28 ∓ 4.1 years. A total of 18 subcategories emerged with four main themes identified as: a) breakdown of normal systems, b) feeling alone and the inability to escape, c) protective factors/adaptability, and d) role identify and formation. Conclusions Findings indicate students implemented a variety of strategies while adapting to the abrupt interruption of in-person clinical rotations, mandated restrictions, and social unrest. The cascading themes illustrate the enormity of sudden changes and their significant impact on daily life.
